White supremacist charged in near decapitation of fellow Aryan Brotherhood member
Police arrested an Arizona white supremacist Thursday accused in the ax murder of another Aryan Brotherhood member earlier this year.
Authorities found the mutilated body of Joshua Calkins wrapped in plastic, with his hand tied behind his back, and dumped in an alley April 16.
Investigators said witnesses told them that Christopher Paul Mason nearly decapitated his fellow member of the white supremacist prison gang the day before in a dispute over a robbery.
The 31-year-old Mason told some witnesses he was angry with the 35-year-old victim because Calkins had robbed Mason’s ex-girlfriend at gunpoint.
Witnesses said Mason attacked the other man with the blunt side of an ax before they helped Calkins escape, but he wanted to do back to the Glendale apartment to retrieve some belongings.
Calkins was bound and gagged after he returned, witnesses said, and one witness said he appeared to beg for help with his eyes.
Mason bragged to witnesses that he struck Calkins 13 times with an ax, in addition to beating him with a baseball bat or ax handle, police said.
Investigators said Mason also told witnesses that he “almost took this guy’s f-cking head off.”
Mason remains held on $1 million bond on murder and kidnapping charges.
