Nebraska lawmaker’s office glitter-bombed by pro-choice activists: ‘Mind your own uterus’
The Nebraska office of a Republican lawmaker was glitter-bombed Wednesday afternoon by pro-choice activists, with a message telling the lawmaker opposed to abortion: “Mind your own uterus.”
Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) was not in his Lincoln office when staffers opened the package which exploded, showering them with glitter, reports Omaha.com.
According to Fortenberry spokeswoman Jennifer Allen, the package appears to have been sent by pro-choice activists based upon the message accompanying the “bomb” reading, “Congrats, you’ve earned this for trying to deny women their right to choice. Mind your own uterus.”
Fortenberry is ardently anti-choice with a perfect 100 percent rating from the National Right To Life Committee.
Glitter bombs — small explosive devices that shower recipients with sparkling glitter — are often used in protests involving abortion or gay rights and are taken very seriously by authorities because they can be dangerous. In most cases, glitter-bombing is done by showering the recipient with the small metallic fragments. A small explosive device increases the risk of damage to the eyes or lungs if the glitter is inhaled.
Allen said the Fortenberry glitter bomb was reported to local police, the U.S. postal inspector and the FBI.
The spokeswoman said that were other ways to express displeasure with the congressman’s positions, such as meeting with him.
“You can certainly disagree with your member of Congress or any member of Congress, but this is pretty reckless and irresponsible,” Allen explained. “It’s just a huge waste of everybody’s time and resources.”
She added, “Nobody was injured, except now people have glitter on their clothes.”
