Texas 4-year-old fatally shoots self — just 2 days and a few miles from 3-year-old who did the same
Two young boys accidentally shot and killed themselves in separate incidents over the weekend in the same Texas county after finding a caregiver’s gun.
A 4-year-old boy found a gun at his babysitter’s home Sunday morning in Harris County – just two days after a 3-year-old boy found a gun in his mother’s purse a few miles away.
Codrick Beal, the 4-year-old, had been staying overnight with a longtime friend of his mother, Ashley Beal — who had gone out to celebrate her birthday, reported the Houston Chronicle.
“It’s just a terrible accident,” said cousin Leticia Beal. “We see it all the time on the news but you never think it’ll hit home. It’s the most horrible thing.”
Sheriff’s deputies have not said what type of gun the boy shot himself with or to whom the weapon belonged.
The babysitter, whose name was not released, collapsed outside her home after the shooting and suffered convulsions as she sobbed in grief.
No charges have been filed, and the shooting remains under investigation.
