Pat Robertson tells listener to not worry about being a lesbian when you’re young: ‘It just happens!’
Conservative television preacher Pat Robertson was surprisingly sanguine about the concerns of a viewer who is still troubled in her fifties over a lesbian affair she had years ago, telling her not to fret about it because things like that “just happen” when you’re young.
During the “Bring It On” portion of his show, Robertson visibly brightened when presented with a question from follower Jenny, who wrote: “I had a lesbian experience at very early age. I love the Lord, but this experience still bothers me — and I am now in my fifties. I don’t understand why. Please help me to understand.”
“I’ll give it to you straight, Jenny,” he began, “When you’re young men and females, they don’t necessarily know what’s there. And they have emotional needs and they can fulfill those needs — especially physical needs — with members of the same sex as well as opposite sex.”
“It just happens! It happens in prep school, it happens in high school and it happens in college,” he continued. “They don’t quite know, so you have a lesbian experience, so you felt drawn, attracted to a woman, and, uh, you were intimate with her, and so you’re over that and you’re into a heterosexual relationship and you love the Lord. Okay.”
Robertson went on to tell Jenny, “You were growing, and you’re not that way anymore,” before advising her that “the Lord will forgive you.”
“I mean, why do you want to worry about it anymore? It’s done, it’s over.” he added.
