BART system denies sanctioning anti-intolerance ‘get your sh*t together’ flier
The right-wing is up in arms over what appears to be a leaflet from Bay Area transit BART that is making the rounds on social media. The problem is that the leaflet is fake.
In the age of fake news, sites and social media controlling the narrative, the photo-shopped “document” appeared warning riders to be tolerant of fellow riders, SFGate reported.
“Attention BART riders: racism, sexism, Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia and xenophobia are prohibited in the BART system at all times. Get your s—t together,” the fake flier said under a BART logo.
The flier then included a hashtag #BARTbehavior101 and encouraged people to contact BART police to report any incidents.
BART spokesperson Alicia Trost said that the flier was not authorized by the transit agency and when officials saw the fliers they were removed.
“This was just a rogue person,” she said. “We want to put out our own appropriate message.”
While the agency plans to do a public announcement celebrating diversity and advertising its no-tolerance policy for threats on BART trains and busses, this was not their statement.
A page calling themselves Broke-Ass Stuart posted the initial graphic saying that it came from a reader named Chris.
