Baghdad- At least 12 people were killed and dozens wounded in three car bomb explosions Wednesday in Baghdad, Iraqi state television al-Iraqiya reported. The most serious blast was in eastern Baghdad, where 11 Iraqis were killed. A Industry Ministry source said that two of those killed were bodyguards of Deputy Minister Mohammad Al-Aany. The car bomb targeted their convoy in Camp Sarah district in eastern Baghdad.
The minister who was abroad at the time was not the target, the source said.
Another Iraqi was killed Wednesday and four others wounded in a separate car bomb explosion earlier Wednesday morning in the Doura district in southern Baghdad. All the wounded were taken to al- Yarmouk training hospital.
A car bomb also exploded in the Karada district of central Baghdad, wounding a number of people.
Also in Baghdad, the US military said four soldiers were killed Wednesday when their patrol was ambushed in the north-west.
A statement from the military said the attackers used "indirect and small-arms fire." No further details were known.
In another development, Saddam Hussein is due to appear with seven of his aides before the Iraqi high criminal court on October 16 for a review of the files of the Dujail case, indicating a delay in the verdict, judicial sources said Wednesday.
Two months ago Judge Raouf Rasheed Abdul-Rahman had announced that the next session, on October 16, was to be when the court would consider issuing a verdict.
The Dujail trial started October 19, 2005. Saddam and seven of his aides are accused of executing 148 villagers of al-Dujail village after a failed attempt to assassinate Saddam in the summer of 1982 during a visit to the village.
