Celebrating the end of Republican dominance of the federal government, Democrats in the House of Representatives today are asking their constituents nation-wide to determine the fate of a mascot that has, for them, come to symbolize the political excesses of one-party rule in Washington.

"On Election Day, the American people rejected the Rubber Stamp Republican Congress," Brendan Daly, communications director for incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), told RAW STORY.

Republican leadership aides have not yet returned requests for comment.

The mascot—an enormous office tool that reads "RUBBER STAMP REPUBLICAN CONGRESS"—was created by Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-FL) as an emblem of the two years during which Republicans controlled every branch of the government.

But, according to a YouTube page maintained by Pelosi, "Starting in January, thanks to Americans across the country, we will no longer have a need" for Meek's mascot.

Those Americans, Daly added, "now have the opportunity to determine the fate of the symbolic Rubber Stamp."
