On Brown's application, FEMA misspelled Homeland Security

The Federal Emergency Management Agency -- the troubled office assailed for failing to aid New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina -- is more troubled than you think.

Documents released to RAW STORY under the Freedom of Information Act show that the application of employment for FEMA Director Michael Brown -- who resigned in disgrace after it emerged he had padded his resume -- twice misspelled the name of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the agency that oversees FEMA.

Document requests turned up just six pages relating to Brown, two of which were not released. The remaining four contained sparse information.

However, what is made available is ready fodder for critics. FEMA misspelled the word "department" on two separate applications--both times in the context of the DHS title.

It's also interesting to note that while some lawmakers push for more drug testing in high schools, and President Bush has proposed laws revoking financial aid from college students caught using drugs for at least one year, the top job at FEMA requires no drug testing, according to Brown's application.

The documents, as acquired, can be viewed below. Click to see a larger view.
