Rachel Maddow broke down the careful series of steps the White House is taking in the Middle East, between new PACs, presidential trips and diplomatic personnel changes to manage the situation. An element Maddow said she did not think would help matters is Glenn Beck’s planned rally in Israel, which he announced Monday.

“What American export can be less helpful to the Middle East than that?” she asked.

“Whatever your own politics around Israel and the Palestinians, everybody can agree that this moment in the Middle East is even more delicate than usual,” Maddow said. “It is time for deliberate calm, for a light touch.”

Glenn Beck, apparently, doesn’t fall under the umbrella of “everyone.” Watch Maddow’s disbelief at Beck’s decision in the clip below, originally broadcast May 16, 2011, and is embedded courtesy of MSNBC.
