Rachel Maddow took Republicans to task for using burdensome regulations in Kansas in an effort to drive abortion providers out of the state. Despite their party’s ideological resistance to business regulation, Kansas Republicans recently passed a law and issued regulations strictly for abortion clinics in the state, specifying everything from the size and number of counseling rooms to the appropriate number of janitorial closets. The regulations were issued after business hours on Friday last week and received by the state’s three clinics on Monday; inspections to determine compliance began yesterday. Those clinics not in compliance were to be shut down.
