This news footage of the eruption of Chile’s Puyehue volcano was taken on Saturday. Thousands of people are being evacuated from the area as the long-dormant volcano roars back to life for the first time in more than half a century. The border between Chile and Argentina has been closed and local authorities have declared a “red alert” in the Argentine city of Bariloche as a cloud of ash has settled over the region, blanketing everything and blotting out the sun.
