After years of staying below the spotlight, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore plans to hit the climate crisis square in the nose with a day of organized global action on Sept. 14.

Gore made the announcement in a new video published online this week, promoting his new “Climate Reality Project.” The day of action aims to use 24 speakers to broadcast 24 straight hours of climate activism, encouraging others to get up and undertake climate mitigation efforts as well.

“As the impacts of climate change are growing more prevalent, so is the resistance to finding the truth and implementing solutions,” a campaign press release reads. “Just like the tobacco companies that spent decades in denial that smoking causes cancer, oil and coal companies are determined to sow denial and confusion about the science of climate change, ignore its impacts, and create apathy among our leaders.

“This event is the first step in a larger, multifaceted campaign to tell the truth about the climate crisis and reject the misinformation we hear every day.”
