Nicole Lamoureux, the executive director of the National Association of Free Clinics, said Tuesday it was “absolutely false” that free and charitable clinics could provide for uninsured Americans.

During the CNN/Tea party debate on Monday, Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) suggested that uninsured Americans would be saved by churches or charities if they were seriously ill. Some members of the audience also cheered the idea of letting the hypothetical uninsured man just die.

“It broke my heart for the uninsured, and someone needs to be the voice for those uninsured,” Lamoureux said on Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

“I really think what we’re finding is that we’re all looking at what is most important to me, for that faction to get that vote, but we’re not looking at what’s best for America. And I think that is what we have to do as voters. We have to find what’s best for America.”
