Rachel Maddow hosted Wired magazine reporter Spencer Ackerman on last night’s show. Ackerman has uncovered evidence that a “World Net Daily” writer has been writing wildly racist and inflammatory training materials used in the briefing of senior counter-terrorism agents at the FBI.

World Net Daily is an extreme right-wing website that is one of the last bastions of “Birtherism” on the net. The organization has paid for billboards and sign-toting airplanes that demand to know “WHERE’S THE REAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE?” in all caps, of course, as Rachel says, like those emails from your racist uncle.

Wired.com has acquired a trove of “disturbing” documents from sources inside the FBI in which Islam is depicted as a cult and which describe the mindset of Islam’s spiritual leader Mohammed as “a source for terrorism”. Many of the documents were written a WND “expert” on terrorism and if actually used as a guide for FBI policy, according to Ackerman, could harm counter-terrorism efforts by jeopardizing outreach within the Muslim community.
