On last night’s Rachel Maddow Show, Rachel examined the remarks of former McCain/Palin campaign officials Steve Schmidt and Nicole Wallace regarding the possible candidacy or non-candidacy of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Former campaign director Schmidt called the choice of Palin as McCain’s running-mate “a failure of the vetting process”. He believes that she was fundamentally unprepared for the task set before her and is even less prepared to run for president.

Wallace, who has just published a novel (It’s Classified) about a woman elected to the presidency who turns out to be seriously mentally ill, went a step further when disparaging the possibility of a Palin candidacy.

“Look, I was inspired by her to write a book about someone who’s cuckoo-for-Cocoa-Puffs,” she says, “so don’t ask me.”
