Chris Matthews asks Howard Fineman and Katrina Vanden Heuvel why Huckabee would advertise himself as “the Christian leader.” Fineman explains, “[Huckabee] is a very sophisticated, very shrewd political operator coming out of the Bible belt, knowing full well what he is saying in Iowa. There are a lot of Evangelical CChristians who don’t think that a Mormon is a Christian.”

Katrina Vanden Heuvel says, “He’s basically saying ‘I am the Christian and Mitt Romney is not Christian. It goes to the heart of the Constitution’s religious clause… [Huckabee] will make this Bush White House which is more cynical than messianic look like a godless White House and he is going to bring back religion in a very scary way.”, ”

This video is from MSNBC’s Hardball, broadcast on December 3, 2007.
