McAuliffe: Clinton will call Obama the nominee

NBC’s Meredith Vieira talked with Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe about what Hillary Clinton will do if Barack Obama reaches 2118 delegate votes.

VIEIRA: It is not about the votes, but about that number, 2,118 votes. If barack obama reaches that number today or tomorrow, do you believe Senator Clinton is prepared to concede?

MCAULIFFE: If Senator Obama gets the number, I think hillary clinton will congratulate him, call him the nominee. We haven’t gotten to that number yet. There’s a lot of issues that Hillary wants to talk about, going forward. This has been a great race. History is being made this year. Potentially the first African-American nominee of the party, the first woman. We brought 20 million voters out than ever before. We’re going to be a unified party going forward.

VIEIRA: Will she drop any notion of taking this fight to the DNC or to the convention?

MCAULIFFE: I don’t think she’s going to go to the credentials committee. Obviously we were upset that they ruled — bylaws took four delegates that people had voted for her. We’re not going to have a fight over four delegates.
