CNN’s Joe John’s reported that John McCain is a supporter of the International Republican Institute in Washington, DC. The group’s website shows John McCain being introduced by Chairman of AT&T who had recently contributed $200,000 to the institute. At the time, McCain was still the chairman of the Senate committee that regulates telephone companies.

AT&T said that there were no strings attached to the donation. A former McCain staffer also told John’s that there was no quid pro quo.

This video is from CNN’s American Morning, broadcast July 29, 2008.
