NBC’s Matt Lauer talked to McCain campaign manager Rick Davis and Obama campaign senior strategist David Axelrod about recent negative attacks between the campaings. Axelrod responded to charges that Barack Obama had played the race card.

Axelrod said, “Nobody reported [Obama's remarks] as a racial comment and nobody said what Rick Davis said. He never called John McCain a racist. The only time it was an issue was when Rick Davis decided to kick it up and make it racial. That’s exactly what they did.”
