An investigation has been prompted by a video posted on YouTube that shows a Salem, Massachusetts officer taking down a suspect. The father of the suspect says that the takedown caused skull fractures.

WHDH 7 News Boston reported:

“The video shows Travis Markarian being grabbed by the throat and tossed to the ground, but police are saying the video doesn’t show everything that led up to the incident.”

“‘We have to investigate to see what happened,’ said Capt. Rodney Comeau. ‘The officer who was involved had been struck in the face moments earlier.’”

“The mother of the suspect under 4 cops is upset.”

“‘It’s very upsetting. My son hit nobody. Four cops on my son, there’s no need of that. The cops just attacked these boys,’ said Wermuth’s mother.”

“Officer Lawrence Puleo will remain on desk duty until the investigation is complete. He has had only one other complain against him in the 20 years on the force. ”

This video is from Fox’s WHDH 7 News Boston, broadcast October 21, 2008.
