The terrorists orchestrated their attacks on Mumbai to get as much attention as possible. CNN’s Paul Newton reported that the news coverage may have created a new term: terrorist celebrities. Newton says attackers “cast themselves as stars in a long hostage drama” instead of choosing to quickly attack using explosives.

Ely Karmon, a former advisor the Israeli Defense Ministry, told CNN that the terrorist got what they wanted. “One of the goals [of the terrorists] was to have a long period of media coverage so people will see and take example and be impressed by their operation.”
