Obama orders closure of Guantanamo Bay prison camp

WASHINGTON (AFP) – President Barack Obama on Thursday signed an executive order mandating the closure of Guantanamo Bay prison camp within a year, in a sharp reversal of Bush administration anti-terror policy.

Obama signed the order surrounded by retired military officers in the Oval Office after a meeting to discuss interrogation and detention policy for terrorism suspects.
