I just need a short break from the drudgery of politics…

Michelangelo Signorile and I were chatting just a bit ago and somehow we got on the topic of watching those cheesy, but fabulous ABC movies of the week back in the 70s, when we were kids. We were trying to think of the name of the one where a girl is kidnapped and kept underground with a little light and food and water. It turned out to be The Longest Night (1972). The trailer for it is here, along with ones for other ABC movies of the week.

Other ones I recall:

* The Devil’s Daughter (1973): kind of a Rosemary’s Baby ripoff, it had a surprise ending, though I can’t remember what it is now.

* Duel (1971, in the clip above): directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Richard Matheson, this evil truck vs. milquetoast businessman thriller actually is still entertaining.

* Trilogy of Terror (1975): OK. This is a classic, known mostly for Karen Black being chased by a truly frightening Zuni Fetish Doll come to life. At least it was terrifying if you were 12.

Anyone else out there remember these or have a fave to contribute?
