The Republican National Committee is expected to pass a resolution branding the Democratic Party as the “Democrat Socialist Party” later this week. Keith Olbermann expressed outrage at the GOP namecalling Wednesday.

“Since the election, the Republicans seem to be doing whatever has just popped into one of their leaders’ heads,” said Olbermann.

Citing a recent Pew poll, Olbermann estimated that 2.7% of people associated the Democratic Party with the word “socialist.” “It’s genius, I tells you. Genius,” he quipped.

“The word ‘socialist’ is not sticking, and even when it does, extraordinarily large numbers of Americans think it’s a compliment.”

“This mass madness, this cascade of rookie mistakes, the seemingly deliberate narrowing of the Republicans to a third party, can all have only one explanation. They’re all Democratic agents,” Olbermann concluded. “They’re moles, turncoats, spies, sellouts, political traders. They have to be. They can’t be that stupid.”
