Gingrich backs off: Sotomayor not a racist

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich caved to pressure from Senate Republicans Wednesday and said he should not have called Judge Sonia Sotomayor a racist. In a new post on his Web site, Gingrich said that his initial reactions was “too strong and too direct.”
