Lawmaker: CIA didn’t tell Panetta of secret program
MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell talked with Representatives Anna Eshoo and Rush Holt about claims that the CIA concealed a secret program from Congress since 2001. Six Democratic Congressman including Eshoo and Holt sent a letter to CIA Director Leon Panetta asking him to correct a statement where he said it was not the policy or practice of the CIA to mislead Congress.
“Iis own top leadership didn’t even brief [Panetta] that this program existed,” Eshoo explained. “He informed us and said that he had just learned of it, as you said, the day before and he stopped it.”
“The issue here, clear and center, is that the CIA withheld pertinent information to the congress, to all members of congress — not even the top leadership was ever briefed. So we call on the director to recall his words of may 15th, where he said, ‘we do not mislead the Congress,” said Eshoo.
