Democrats have been falsely called Fascists, Socialists and Nazis since Barack Obama was elected president, why not call them cattle rustlers, too.

Welcome to the wild, wild Pacific Northwest.

At a Tea Party event in Asotin, Idaho Saturday, one unnamed speaker announced that she would like to hang Senator Patty Murray.

“How many of you have watched the movie Lonesome Dove?,” the unidentified woman asked. “What happened to Jake when he ran with the wrong crowd? What happened to Jake when he ran with the wrong crowd. He got hung. And that’s what I want to do with Patty Murray.”

In the miniseries based on Larry McMurtry’s novel, Jake Spoon’s former friends couldn’t bear to hang him after they rounded him up in a posse for going on a cattle rustling, murdering spree, so he spurred his own horse to help them enact frontier justice. It’s doubtful any congress members would act similarly.

The Tea Party event, which was attended by around 500 people, was organized by Lewis and Clark Tea Party Patriots, a group that argues “that it is time to ‘sound the alarm’ against a Government that is not representing the citizens of the States.”

“Our Goal will be to continue in a consistent form to reform what now is being called the Elected Officials of these States and Government of these States and the Government of the United States of America,” the group’s website states. “We believe in the citizens of this great country can and will make America a better place.”

KOMO news adds,

In the days after the speech, Democrats have rushed to Murray’s defense, claiming the speakers’ words amount to hate speech.

“She (Murray) understands that people are, you know, anxious. The unemployment is high, the economy is not going well,” Dwight Pelz of the state Democratic party. “There’s a lot of anxiety out there, but that doesn’t justify hatred, and doesn’t justify threats of violence.”

The senator’s office had no comments on the issue.
