NBC’s Jay Leno pulled GOP strategist Karl Rove into the controversy over a political consultant who charged the Republican Party $1,900 for a night at a bondage-themed L.A. night club.

“Somebody ought to lose their credit card, their RNC credit card,” Rove said on The Tonight Show Monday night. “Find that pervert and get his card.”

“That pervert” appears to be Erik Brown, a California political consultant for the GOP, who reportedly said he would reimburse the money to the GOP after news of the expense went public Monday. The GOP says it has fired the person responsible for running up the tab.

Leno and Rove’s conversation on the topic quickly turned humorous. “Been to that club?” Leno asked Rove.

“Look man, come on, no!” Rove responded, as laughter built in the audience.

“Karl, let’s go tonight,” Leno responded. “Karl, you and I, let’s go!”

Much of Rove’s appearance focused on awkward and painful moments from Rove’s childhood, which Rove recounted in the book he’s currently plugging, Courage and Consequence. Rove and Leno discussed Rove’s being beaten up by a 12-year-old at age nine for sporting a Nixon bumper sticker; Rove finding out at age 19 that he was adopted; and Rove’s mother’s suicide three decades ago.

All of which prompted Gawker to muse that Leno was “doing his best to make Karl Rove cry.”
