Did Sean Hannity call his audience Tim McVeigh-wannabes?

A video posted on YouTube two days before April Fool’s Day asks, “Did Sean Hannity call his audience Tim McVeigh-wannabes?”

Well, the answer is… sort of.

At the very end of this video clip taken from a FOX News Channel broadcast on March 30, and uploaded by the website Mox News, conservative radio host and Fox anchor Hannity can be clearly heard telling his audience, “Can I add one thing. I think we won the debate.”

“When you think of the vast majorities they have in Congress, and they had the bribe back room deals, corruption,” Hannity continued, “that’s because of the Tea Party movement, all these Tim McVeigh wannabes.”

So far, at press time, the video has only gotten 1,475 views, but it was mentioned on Thom Hartmann’s radio show this morning and the link is being emailed to news sites such as RAW STORY (A shorter clip with only 345 viewings can be viewed at this link).

Fox News Channel viewers, at the time of its broadcast, wondered why a crowd full of conservatives would cheer being compared to the white supremacist sympathizer who was executed for killing 168 people in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing which destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.

At a forum for Comedy Central’s Daily Show, viewers from the left and right were taken aback.

Hopefully some staffer has already seen this – or you guys tivo his show to catch this kinda stuff, but….

Just before his commercial break at about 9:10, Hannity praised the crowd for being “Tim McVeigh wannabes.” I couldn’t believe my ears – I still kinda hope I heard it wrong. Palin and her crosshairs are one thing, but this????

For the sake of context… Hannity’s show is in the Reagan “Library” and they started out talking about getting rid of Obama, etc….

…..

Yeah, I heard it to. It knocked me back so far I had to sign up here to get the word out. Still find it hard to believe.

…..

I just heard the “Tim McVeigh Wannabes” comment myself on the Hannity replay here in the Midwest at about 11:15. Immediately “went to the Google” to check whether I heard what I thought I heard. I’m about as conservative as they come (I have Ronald Reagan’s picture hanging nearby right now), but I hope that he wasn’t urging on anyone who would even remotely try to emulate McVeigh.

….

Yes, as the conclusion to the host and two guests stroking up each others egos in a typical unilateral discussion anger orgy, they said that healthcare was actually a victory and then Hannity thanked the supporters of the victory including the tea party and the Tim McVeigh wannabes.

And it gets better.. There was applause and cheering.

Forum user Rusty Bucket speculated, “Well I could see how he might have been trying to use sarcasm – but the only thing is – alot of those people DO want to be Tim McVeigh wannabes. So he may have been sarcastic, but I dunno about some of the fruitbats in that audience.”

An article at Utah’s Ksl.com reveals that Rusty Bucket pretty much nailed it.

The day after the Tea Party Express made a stop in Salt Lake City, a prominent voice of conservative talk radio was in town with a similar message.

Sean Hannity broadcast his national talk show from KSL studios Wednesday.

He told a small gathering before the show that the Tea Party movement is legitimate and will withstand mounting attacks from its opponents on the left.

“We’ve got veterans, we’ve got stay-at-home moms, people who really don’t like the direction of the country. They’re speaking out and they’ve been compared to terrorists, Tim McVeigh-wannabes. They’ve been called un-American. They’ve been called every name in the book. Now, the latest attack is that these people are violent,” he said.

So, Hannity was almost definitely using sarcasm when he referred to his audience as “McVeigh-wannabes.”

However, there doesn’t seem to be any explanation for why Congressman Kevin McCarthy falsely said that no Republicans voted for the stimulus last year. Liberals can feel free to mock that with no fear, since the audience at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California cheered that, as well.

What's that make you Sean ?

  • http://biscuits007.wordpress.com/ protobone

SpermWhale Hannity thinks he's a comedian. You know, like Joseph Goebbels.

  • BCPipes

Sarcasm? Probably. I would venture a good bet there are 168 families that don't think it's one bit funny.

  • GunTotinLiberal

Don’t you know? According to the neo-cons, Saddam Hussein was responsible for the OC bombing. I guess poor Timmy was just a patsy, a good white Christian boy that was framed by the evil Janet Reno

  • Dr. Matt

Something strikes me as odd about this video. Why did Faux use a wide shot of the audience when Insean Vannity made the Tim McVeigh (R-Teabaggerstan) reference? I'm wondering if someone carefully edited in the McVeigh audio reference and then edited the video to cover up the fact that Insean Vannity wasn't saying that.

Then again it is indeed possible Insean Vannity did say it and Faux decided to edit in a wide shot post-production to raise speculation.

Hannity is not stupid but he is a phony. He knows exactly what he is doing. He knows about the backdoor dealing and arm twisting that goes hand in hand with politics. There is nothing evil about it. But he knows his audience is naïve and he very skillfully knows how to play on them. It is the same thing I saw listening (case studying) for so many years, Michael Savage do with his audience. They are manipulators.

And Hannity knew exactly what he was doing when he made this provocative comment about the tea partiers being Timothy McVeigh wannabes. There is no rationale explanation to defend this comment under the circumstances of the tragic history of the Oklahoma City Bombing. It immediately brings to memory that picture of that distraught fireman carrying that poor little baby out of that bombed building that was murdered by a sick twisted individual. The Oklahoma City Bombing was no less a terrorist attack than 9/11. And Timothy McVeigh is no more a hero than those terrorists who orchestrated 9/11. And anybody who sees it differently is on the wrong side of sanity.

And Laffy is right. If this had been said by someone in the media from the left… it would be headline news. It angers me the FCC is afraid to go after these people like Hannity and Beck because of their popularity. Hannity is no journalist. He is not an honest man. He is nothing but a smooth used cars salesman. He’s a purveyor of lies, fear, and hate. He is one of the main reasons why right wing extremism has taken over the Republican Party and pushed into mainstream. But as long as he brings in money it is good enough for that true capitalist, Murdoch and his NewsCorp. Which is just one more proof that capitalism has no soul. Welcome to America today, where Thomas Jefferson is not welcomed.

  • Concerned Taxpaying Citizen

Clearly you didn't watch it. Big Sis called conservatives potential terrorists, Nancy called us Nazis, Reid doesnt like our smell etc etc etc. Overwhelmingly the Taxed Enough Already gatherings are civil — infact did you not see that the only incident in Searchlight came from anti TEA people?
If you embrace the slurs used against you said slurs lose their power that was the point S.H. was making.

  • kwertie

Makes sense to me. McVeigh was a conservative.

  • xyoungblood

Hannity is an opportunist and an entertainer. Wouldn't it be funny if he was actually a liberal and had a Freudian slip. As a right wing nutcase he can make millions per yr, as a liberal he could make a few hundred thousand. In the entertainment business you have to make the money while you can, stardom doesn't last.

  • xyoungblood

Hannity is like the NRA, with a Democratic President your membership always goes up. It's in Hannity's best interest to have a Democrat as the President. He's a liberal who is playing the neo-cons like a fiddle, and milking them for millions.

What would happen to Hannity's career if a massive liberal audience started going to his speaking engagements and treated him like a liberal spy in the house of neo-cons. We would destroy his career.

  • unclejoe40

the mcveigh comment doesnt bother me

what bothers me is all the lies that were said about the economy that reagan inherited and what kennedy did

    hannity is an asshat

  • Walt

Oh, I watched it. And I've listened to Hannity enough to stand by everything I said. You taxed enough already are the biggest whiners on the planet. As soon as they would start taking away everything you take for granted that is paid by taxes your kind would be the first to whine about it. How ironic the corporate created tea parties started after Obama's tax cut to 95% of the nation. You people are so informed (sarcasm). The tea partiers are right in one aspect our government since Reagan (the original big spender) has been spending too much and borrowing too much. It is going to come to a head. Where to cut the waste? Lets start with corporate welfare and the military. Big Sis? Is that supposed to be clever. Did Nancy call you a Nazi or the Nazis that reside in your party? Reid doesn't like your smell. I don't blame him. I can smell you from here. Don't waste my time unless you can bring something intellectually to the table worth debating. If you can't even realize what a phony Hannity is you can't dance with me.

  • unclejoe40

you are all potential terrorists…that is why we are building massive fema camps to house your subversive asses

  • ffakr

Do any of the Concerned Taxpaying Citizens realize Obama gave them a tax break?

  • DesertWren

Hannity calls the Tea Party movement and everyone in the attendance “Tim McVeigh wannabes”, everyone applauds and you have the gall to try to make some kind of equivalency argument? Where is the Tim McVeigh equivalent on the left, pray tell?

P.S. Nancy Pelosi didn't call the Tea Partiers Nazis, she simply pointed out your use of Nazi imagery and rhetoric. Besides, it is the Tea Partiers that started their own mini kristallnacht by breaking Democratic office windows and with their use of elimination rhetoric.

  • ootatop

I've got to agree. As a whole you tea partiers are being really well behaved considering how worried you are about some issues. We all have to remember some civility.

Still, as right as you are about that, Nancy didn't call you Nazis, she said she believed a lot of the tea party movement was “astroturf” and she questioned bringing signs with swastikas to health care protests. The Reid issue? C'mon, he was talking about all of us, not just you, and he was trying to make a stupid joke!

We've got to start talking about the stuff we agree on rather than waiting for the next “outrage from the other side. I'm sorry for my side huffing and puffing like you are all dangerous. In return, please don't pretend that jackass Reid said you stink.

    Peace.

  • Bill

Pretty sure I've seen tea party signs comparing Obama to Hitler

10000% positive I've been sent a video from a conservative with a guy comparing todays democrats to Hitler's Nazi Party (because it had the word 'socialist' in the party line).

Be real, you all use the nazi comparison too. Not to mention, nothing was civil about how people acted at some of the Town Hall meetings during the health care debate. I've seen 12 year olds have more mature and informed conversations about politics than these people. Yet the moment someone protests Karl Rove in a similar manner, or hell protests anything anti-republican in a peaceful manner (like the tea-party people claim they do) it's Anti-American and all that jazz

Seriously, both sides do it. Don't come on here complaining when the Dem's do it, because I can highlight just as many times the Republicans do it. I don't care if you tell me that those incidents are 'fringe' republicans that you don't support. Can you tell me the last time Hannity said “I don't support people who show these signs and say these things! I support peaceful dialog” that wasn't a sarcastic comment or in reference to people opposing his own view?

I could be wrong, but I've never seen it nor heard of it. And this is coming from a guy who was exposed to a ton of hannity/limbaugh/fox news for his entire teenage years.

Taken with his implicit approval of Teabaggers, it would seem that he is proudly encouraging them to emulate McVeigh. If the Baggers go violent, we might look at charging Sean with incitement.

Is this free speech as we understand the 1st Amendment grants? It seems to me that Sean just yelled “FIRE!” in a movie house. And *where* is the FBI (at home watching FOX News)?

  • http://circuitousnoodle.blogspot.com/ leekinny

This is something we should all agree is well beyond borderline tasteless and racing along the track to incendiary.

  • Lamarr

April 15th Tea Party protested, recent arrest of Hutaree terror plotters, April 19th anniversary of Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. Sean Hannity I fear is trying to excite action. Will April 19th pass with no violent act? What a fool he is to loosely impress on the minds of foolish extremist to wanna be like McVeigh. If something happens on this day Sean must be held accountable for his inciting rhetoric.

  • Frank

“A video posted on YouTube TWO DAYS BEFORE APRIL FOOL'S DAY asks, “Did Sean Hannity call his audience Tim McVeigh-wannabes?”

The video is probably fake… probably created by conservatives…. notice how they cut away from his face when he says “Tim McVeigh Wannabees.”

Come on Rawstory… you can do better than this.

Ronald Reagan negotiated with the Iranian regime while Carter was still a sitting President.

Ronald Reagan increased the federal debt and not one Republican voted for the Bill Clinton signed that gave us a surplus.

    Obama has cut taxes.

  • carol h.

Hannity and Savage are manipulators. They all are. And the ignorance and lack of cogent reasoning skills is what their audiences have in common. They are scared of any change. And being scared they wait for someone to tell them what to hate. And the way they figure is, these are important people. They are on TV and radio. They are speaking to the fear and baseness in all people. And they have the authority of being important. And no matter what they say, it legitimizes the fear in these people. They tell them how right they are to be afraid and make it worse by ratcheting up the fear. And they laugh going to the bank.

These talking heads have no more in common with these people that a martian. 'They are fat and rich. And the fear and hate they generate makes them even richer. And they do it all in the name of free speech.

The followers of these people are looking for authority to save them. And the conservative right wing, and religious are authoritarian. That is their comfort zone.

One day the pendulum will swing to the middle where it belongs. But not before these haters of America cause some terrible thing to happen. And if it does, you can just hear them with the excuses. “It is not my fault.” “The person that did this was crazy, and driven crazy by the liberals.” “It is all the fault of socialist liberals.” etc. Can you just hear it?

The terrible thing is, these people will always be with us. We seem to grow a crop of them periodically. They seem to spring up out of some pool of slime. Some twisted lives they have been born into, or just plain evil. Whatever. We will just have to keep hitting back with some truth. And make them answer for each lie they tell. We cannot afford to sit by and let them do all the talking. We have already had 15 years of this. And if we do not begin to seriously call them on the things they promote, then we deserve their continual scorn and our own.

  • http://circuitousnoodle.blogspot.com/ leekinny

If we follow the same rules as the GOP; it only has to seem what would be true to be real. So accepting Republican guidelines it is most definitely authentic.

  • chester77

I think Hannity was being sarcastic. Lousy sarcasm by the way, many right wing talk show guys are lousy at comedy somehow. I now think that yes, Hannity did say this, and that the Fox crew edited the video to cut camera away from Sean when he said this, on purpose, so that this would be debatable, maybe so they could say this was an editing job by some lefty hater. BUT that would've had to be done in a small window of time, very very well. Because the audio of the McVeigh comment totally flows with the last lines from Hannity, it totally sounds like Hannity's voice and it totally sounds like it's being said in a room with the same acoustics. Hannity has complained before that the teabaggers are called “McVeigh wannabes.” That said, I would not be surprised if the next McVeigh is sitting in that audience. Lousy sarcasm

  • http://circuitousnoodle.blogspot.com/ leekinny

Many thought that Reagan was the death of liberalism. But it wasn't, because progressives kept fighting for all the causes that were important to it. We made a resurgence towards the end of Bush41 and struggled to stay alive throughout the Clinton administration. The vile language of the 'hate everyone who is not like us' conservatives brought them back to life leading to the incredibly destructive Neoconservative dominated Bush43 crowd. It's nice to enjoy our victory while watching 'Republicans eating their own' but the far-right fascist-leaning Neocon embracing conservatives will not let up. They will constantly attack a Democratic government as being the enemy.

To, what level are they driving up feelings of hate among people in cities, towns and neighborhoods not to mention little kids in playgrounds.

I wouldn't be honest if I didn't say all this is more than a little bit frightening. I've been convinced that, at the most minimum, these guys are playing with fascism.

I'm even more convinced, since they are intentionally raising the level of hatred by equating President-elect Obama as the enemy of the United States, that America is dead and other incredibly dangerous talk, that I feel, has crossed the line into sedition, if not treason, at least for all those who suggest the death of the president, his cabinet, advisors, legislators or supporters.

  • Joe

I seriously doubt Thomas Jefferson would have the FCC “go after these people” as you suggest they should do, you effing totalitarian blowhard.

Almost everyone in the mainstream media is a fear/hate monger, but I support their right to be stupid and misinform people. Jefferson would too.

“The only security of all is in a free press. The force of public opinion cannot be resisted when permitted freely to be expressed. The agitation it produces must be submitted to. It is necessary, to keep the waters pure.”

And OK City was not done by an “individual”. Terry Nichols was indicted, the FBI acknowledges a “John Doe #2″ and then changes their story. They finally released the video tapes and when this John doe would be visible…..someone was changing out all the tapes and the criminal act was not videotaped on any of the tapes the FBI has been holding!!! How convenient. AND the FBI has blacked out MANY names from FOIA documents mentioning Elohim City informants and players, made deals with conspirators and placed them in Witness Protection, etc etc etc.

But nevermind, just go back to your very important and “intellectual” Who's Better?: Olbermann vs. Hannity debate.

Sean Hannity is just another well paid mouthpiece for the well known Australian traitor Rupert Murdoch who hired Roger Ailes, the notorious rightwing radical to run his anti-democracy campaign here in the United States that he has run in Australia and the United Kingdom over the last 30+ years. These folks hate democracy, they hate working people but they are eager and willing to use both to win their political battles.

  • chrisjay

I would like to say the main problem I have with this quote is that the crowd cheers so loudly when he says it. Think about it and you’ll realize that most in the crowd probably don’t take it as making fun of the left but as a reference to their standing up to the government. That’s what makes the quote reprehensible to me. I could care less if someone says McVeigh’s name, I only care about how it can be interpreted and like it or not it can be taken that way…

“I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.”

“Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear.”

“Say nothing of my religion. It is known to God and myself alone. Its evidence before the world is to be sought in my life: if it has been honest and dutiful to society the religion which has regulated it cannot be a bad one.”

“Enlighten the people, generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like spirits at the dawn of day.”

“I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country.”

    A few Thomas Jefferson quotes.

Within the embodiment of my original comment I ended it with the mention of Jefferson in reference to the Texas Board of Education recent decision to rewrite history and downplay his significance as one of our founding fathers. In my opinion, the true tyranny in play here is the direction the Republican Party has moved to over the last 30 years.

How asinine to suggest a progressive would be against the free press. No, my suggestion for the FCC is to not remove shows like Hannity and Beck. Only those fines be levied and publicized to media news organizations that choose to propagandize the news and misinform their listeners. When it comes to Democracy there is a responsibility of our news outlets to report the stories not create the stories. In the case of corporate FOX News and the corporate right wing political talk radio which controls 95% of talk radio, which is the main source where the right wingers get their news that shapes their opinion, and a profit seeking complacent news media, it deviates away from any fair and balance forum that would allow the public to form a rational opinion. The system right now is not “keeping the waters pure.” It is polluting the waters.

I’m clapping my hands right now on your submittance of further information on the Oklahoma City bombing as insignificant as it is. You obviously missed my point. It was a terrorist act no less horrifying than 9/11 committed by a group of twisted, murdering, extremists, that would never vote for a Democrat. And as we saw the rise of these right wing radical groups with the election of Clinton, we are seeing the same thing happen with the election of Obama, only at a much faster alarming rate. Gee, I wonder who they listen to?

And since you brought in Olberman, we could spend another page comparing intellect and integrity between Olberman and Hannity. But what a waste. When it comes to truth and integrity Hannity can’t even lick the boots that Olberman wears. I don’t expect to convince you being brainwashed. But I challenged you to read this with an open mind (do you still have one…Joe?): http://www.consortiumnews.com/Print/2010/033110.html

If your still thinking good vs evil = Dems vs Rep your lost to any cause but the State's Agenda(whatever it might be). More facts.

President Johnson bugged the Republicans before the '68 election, because he suspected they were interfering with the Vietnamese peace negotiations; he was probably correct in his suspicions. Later during the Watergate coverup, President Nixon threatened to leak the Johnson bugging to the press. Right before the '80 election, the Republicans offered a better deal in the Iranian Hostage Crisis; without an October Surprise, President Carter lost to Reagan. The U.S. hostages were released by the Iranians six minutes after Reagan was sworn in as the President. Hmmm, I'm not sure what you believe, but I think …

Hannity frequently calls Tea Partiers “Tim McVeigh wannabes” on his show, but it is clearly sarcasm he repeats and repeats, reminding his viewers that it was the liberal press that had insinuated the Tea Party Movement was full of racists and Tim McVeigh wannabes during past rallies.

Hannity's radio show is, however, propaganda that should be denounced by parents, educators, clergy, radio industry watchdog groups, election integrity watchers and concerned citizens because he does not openly debate informed, articulate callers or guests. On every topic, Hannity hides widely published counterclaims that call his arguments into question.

This method of “whitewashed” broadcasting is intentional distortion and makes Hannity a blatant propagandist. More here: http://www.bit.ly/5qmsNq

The problem with the stimulus was that it heaped even more debt on the 30 years of building debt we already had…I would have been more agreeable to ending our Mideast military occupation, and transferring the savings to infrastructure rebuilding…but then, I'm a REAL conservative, not a Faux News neo-con, or a tea-party dupe.

And for the record, I opposed the wall street bailout, as well…had the big banks been allowed to fail, ill-gotten fortunes would have disappeared, and the corporatist power structure would have taken a heavy hit…we all would have been hurt, but in the long run, we would have dug out a lot of blood-sucking ticks…now we have to dig them out the hard way, by making people understand what's going on, and who's bought out their government.

Here is yet, another typical liberal Democrat who is dumb as a stump. No wonder these morons voted for healthcare. This Congressmen should get his own TV show with MSNBC and Keith Olbermann because he is on the “same wave-length”.

  • realityczech66

Are you idiots kidding me? Hannity is clearly mocking the Liberal Mantra that all Tea Partiers are somehow crazy right wing Tim McVeigh Wannabes. Jeesh! It's called being facitious.

  • Scott

Come on, people! In your mind, put quotes around the phrase “McVeigh wannabees,” and it makes perfect sense. He called them that because that's how the LEFT characterizes tea-partiers, as violently anti-government. It was not disparaging to the OKC victims or the tea party movement, and he was not encouraging violence. If he wanted to dumb it down, he could have said,” I want to remind you that the left calls you mean names because dare to have a different opinion.”

  • It's the CEOs, stupid

Both the DEMs and the GOP are after only one thing: corporate money from the companies that run our government and take Trillions in bailouts and do not pay taxes. It's not the Dems you have to fear or the govt or the GOP, it's the corporatists behind them both and bankrupted the middle class with the recession they caused making billions off their subprime scam.

  • Tyler

It's obvious that the comment was made to be sarcastic, but O'Riley men, some things decent people jsut don't joke about.

  • SUECEM

The remark is appalling no matter the supposed sarcasm or context. Just imagine if Keith Olbermann said something like that–The Fox Propaganda machine would be screaming 24/7.

Maybe Sean meant something else–what I am 100% certain of is without Marc Levin funneling him info and writing his books and RNC talking points-Hannity is a DOPE!

Proof of just how civil he and his co-conspirators are and don't think but once, if you don't believe Rash Limpbaughs isn't a fRAT Brother with these nicely dressed, well groomed Thugs. Just remember what Clint Eastwood remarked once, Opinion are like assholes, everybody has one. I just don't like theirs, Insanity Hannity and all his escapee's from the Bellevue Sanitorium. Rupert Murdock only hires the best.

  • davefromoregon

Hannity is probably correct about them being McVeigh Wannabe's. That should terrify all of us.

  • Chris

I can’t stand Hannity, but he was clearly being sarcastic (in reference to the left comparing teabaggers to militia) and the applause started BEFORE he made the McVeigh statement. They were applauding him giving credit to the tea parties.

  • annzm

As a proudly liberal homeschooling mother, I would like to know what evidence you are drawing on to make that statement. Timothy McVeigh and Savage attended public school and Hannity Catholic school. Sounds more like an unsupported stereotype to me.

    You are correct, Sir !

Role in the Nixon campaign sabotage of Paris Peace Accords
Recorded in Nixon, A Life, by Jonathan Aitken, notes of Patrick Hillings, the former congressman accompanying the candidate’s 1967 trip to Taipei, Nixon interjected just after an unexpected encounter with Mrs. Chennault “Get her away from me, Hillings, she’s a chatterbox.” Yet according to records of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s secret monitoring of South Vietnamese officials and his political foes, Anna Chennault played a crucial role on behalf of the Nixon campaign[3][4] which attempted to sabotage of the 1968 Paris peace talks which could have ended the Vietnam War.[5] She arranged the contact with South Vietnamese Ambassador Bui Diem whom Richard Nixon met in secret in July 1968 in New York.[6] It was through Chennault’s intercession[7][8] that the Nixon campaign advised Saigon to refuse participation in the talks, promising a better deal once elected.[9][10][11] Records of FBI wiretaps show that Chennault phoned Bui Diem on November 2 with the message “hold on, we are gonna win.”[12][13] “The tactic ‘worked’, in that the South Vietnamese junta withdrew from the talks on the eve of the election, thereby destroying the peace initiative on which the Democrats had based their campaign. “[14] Before the elections President Johnson “suspected (…) Richard Nixon, of political sabotage[15] that he called treason”.[16] In part because Nixon won the presidency, no one was ever prosecuted for this alleged crime.[17][18][19]

Can someone cite where the term “Tim McVeigh wannabes” was used before this? I've heard the Tea Party called many names, but that's not one I can recall. If Hannity was being sarcastic, as is argued here, he was also misrepresenting opposition to the Tea Partiers.

  • gr0o

Hannity continue tryiing to rewrite history about Ronald Reagan. Not enough people remembers Ronald Reagan and his so call a complishments. Greate Americans or greate World Leaders do have to be sold their greatest will easily be recognize.

Hannity constanly attacking President Obama about Rev. Wright and Bill Ayres either of them has't cause harm to any one. Seemingly, Hannity is expressing his admiration for Tim McVeigh's
    deadly attack on innocent citizens.

A News organization in America, compensate Hannity to incite a McVeigh copy cat.
His ecouragement to others that might carry on the same violent as McVeigh did is evil.
They are not being held acountable.

A News Station in America compensate him for expressing such disregard for the rule of law.

    They should be held accountable

  • http://www.dailykos.com/user/shpilk shpilk

It appears to be sarcasm, a whiny attempt by Sean to deflect criticism against the ignorant clueless people that believe every word of tripe Fox News puts out.

Yes, there are some on the left who think that all Tea Bagging idiots are violent criminals waiting to commit mass murder; it's easy to ramp up hysteria when the imagery of violence is spoken from the Floor of the House and Senate, visual props like lakes of fire and bullseyes, and concepts like poisoning judges are viewed as legitimate 'discourse'. What is one expected to do, what type of reaction is valid to absurdities like “Baby Killer!” “pulling the plug on Grandma” and “Death Panels”? When we see images of people carrying guns to political rallies, when people shout out 'Kill him!' when an opponent's name is mentioned, what type of general response do we expect to see from the public at large?

I think most of the crowd probably didn't hear McVeighs's name mentioned, because they were too busy swallowing the lies whole, the ones that preceded invocation of McVeigh's name. Many of the Tea Baggers look too feeble to do much more than refuse to cash in the Social Security and Medicare checks in protest [and please do, you hypocrites: walk the walk if you're going to talk the talk].

So yes, it appears that Sean's weak attempt at reverse Godwinism re: the specter of McVeigh is being misinterpreted all over the place. This desn't change the fact his listeners are drones who cannot think for themselves.

The scary part of how far down the rabbit hole some have gone is that frankly if Fox wanted to, one can clearly see how they _could_ take McVeigh and paint his as a hero, and most of the brain dead fools that watch the network would hardly raise a murmur. That part should get anyone thinking hard about what type of future this type rhetoric brings to any political discussion.

  • landspirit

Spot on. The real danger to freedom and our country lies within the GOP who is manipulating fringe groups and using lies to cause anger that they can use to regain their lost power. They facade that the Tea Party is patriotic is extremely transparent. They are nothing but shills for the GOP and as such are fighting against freedom, against our country and against equality. They are the un-patriots: the neo con Nazi

[...] sarcasm = dangerous At the end of this clip from last week, Sean Hannity threw the unbelievable phrase “Tim McVeigh wannabes” in reference to the Tea Party. And the Tea Partiers cheered. The left was like, whoa. But Raw Story reports that it was sarcasm. [...]

  • NewsHoundsEllen

I was taken aback when I first saw this clip and may have even been one of the people emailing it to you guys. After re-watching it in context and hearing Hannity's comments in later shows on the subject, I think he meant it ironically, not sarcastically, and as a dig at the left. He was saying that the left calls tea baggers “Timothy McVeigh wannabes” so he meant it just like we might say to an Obama supporter, “You radical socialist.”

That said, I think that the ironic context is only somewhat better than if he had just meant it directly. For one thing, there is the slap at the left for calling what were obviously everyday people, essentially, homegrown terrorists. For another, he sounded pleased, as opposed to disgusted, at the left's characterization… suggesting that anything, even a Tim McVeigh wannabe, was better than a liberal.

Sure we do. We’re just not interested in larger government and increasing citizens dependence on it. Look what the nanny state is doing to Europe. Joseph, Joseph, Joseph, since you are declaring your good memory, you do remember that Bill Ayres was, said and did:

    * Leader of the 1960s and 70s domestic terrorist group Weatherman
    * “Kill all the rich people. … Bring the revolution home. Kill your parents.”
    * Participated in the bombings of New York City Police Headquarters in 1970, of the
Capitol building in 1971, and the Pentagon in 1972
    * Currently a professor of education at the University of Illinois

Born in 1944, Bill Ayers, along with his wife Bernardine Dohrn, was a 1960s leader of the homegrown terrorist group Weatherman, a Communist-driven splinter faction of Students for a Democratic Society. Characterizing Weatherman as “an American Red Army,” Ayers summed up the organization's ideology as follows: “Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, Kill your parents.”

So now you're trying to tell us that the three people you listed above haven't caused harm to anyone. You are an uninformed fool

realityczech, seems they can't do a google to check the facts and where they came from. Too many left wing kool aid drinkers, who can't see or think past the end of their nose or understand what to think unless they parrot Olbermann or Maddow. Sad. It isn't hard to figure this stuff out if you are truly seeking the truth. It is out there and available, it took me all of three minutes to research the statement and find the answer. But then, I care about truth and fact prior to writing something in a blog response. No matter how it comes out. I don't abide lies on either side of the aisle or bull sheet.

I mean happiness comes from facing challenges and going out on a limb and taking risks. If you’re not willing to take a risk for something you really care about, you might as well be dead.
