The whisteblower website WikiLeaks — which exploded onto the national stage earlier this month after it released a video recording showing US servicemembers shooting two reporters and six others to death — says they plan to release another, even more harrowing clip.

The clip will show previously classified footage from US warplanes that had been tapped to bomb Taliban positions in Farah province, Afghanistan last year.

Adds the UK Telegraph: “The Afghan government said at the time that the strikes by F-18 and B1 planes near Granai killed 147 civilians. An independent Afghan inquiry later put the toll at 86.”

“Video footage of the strike could prove highly damaging to the Nato-led coalition if it showed pilots failing to safeguard civilian lives,” the paper continues.

The earlier video showing two Reuters cameramen being shot appears at the bottom of this report. Viewer discretion is advised, as the clip is graphic.

As recently as today, Afghanis protested the deaths of four other civilians who were killed when US forces fired on a bus on Monday.

About 200 men took to the streets of Kandahar to demonstrate over the killings on a highway outside the southern Afghan city, burning tires and shouting “death to America, death to Karzai, death to this government”.

Hours later, three Taliban militants wearing suicide vests and carrying guns tried to storm the office of Afghanistan’s premier spy agency in Kandahar, sparking a shoot-out with security forces.

The incidents reflected chronic insecurity in the province of Kandahar, where US-led military forces are preparing a major push to dislodge the Taliban from their spiritual capital.

The Afghan government said a woman and a child were among the dead and 18 others were wounded in the shooting, which occurred when the bus neared a NATO convoy on the highway linking Kandahar and the western province of Herat.

This video is from WikiLeaks, released to the press on April 5, 2010.

    Global warming is a complete non-issue. It’s a distraction.

There are perfectly good and rational reasons why we must stop our addiction to oil and fossil fuels, and these reasons are and would remain valid even if global warming was shown to be a fabrication.

    1. Oil is running out. We may not reach “peak oil” for a few years, or we may already have reached it, but one way or another, there isn’t an infinite amount of oil on this planet, and our economy is going to collapse unless we switch to sustainable sources of energy.

    2. Our addiction to oil is destabilizing the middle east. Contrary to what the establishment tells us, many muslim radicals are not angry at us because of our “freedom”. They would be attacking the Netherlands if that was the issue. No, they’re angry because we’re occupying their holy sites in Saudi-Arabia, and we’re in there because of oil. No other reason.

    3. The production and burning of fossil fuels is harmful to our environment. Mining coal is an environmental disaster, and air pollution from burning coal and oil causes illness and human misery. It’s a natural right of every human being to breathe unpolluted air, and that right is being violated on a massive scale.

And only in the knuckle-dragging United States do people believe what you just wrote. The science is about 95% “certain”. And for science, that is about as close as it gets to being certain.

But, you people die right along with us as the climate collapses around us so that is comfort indeed.

Right, because a liberal being an idiot is evidence that liberals are idiots, but a conservative being an idiot is evidence that *both* liberals and conservatives are idiots.

Whether you agree or disagree with global warming as presented by Al Gore he is at least making an honest interpretation based on the evidence. Glen Beck on the other hand is a retarded monkey.

These are not even remotely the same thing Mr. Ratigan.

After warmest January in history, Vancouver airlifts in snow for Winter Olympics.

    http://thinkprogress.org/2010/02/12/vancouver-snow/

Record warmth is forcing the organizers of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia to helicopter in snow to cover mountains. The planet’s changing climate is threatening the start of the Olympics, as “sloppy, foggy weather” has canceled training runs on both Whistler and Cypress Mountains. In Vancouver, the “average temperature in January was 44.9 degrees, besting the previous warm record of 43.3 in 2006 and well above the historic average of 37.9 degrees”:

After the warmest January in Vancouver history, organizers moved more than 5,000 cubic meters of snow onto Cypress by helicopter and truck from nearby mountains. Some 750 workers are bringing in snow and building courses before competition starts on Saturday.

Vancouver’s troubles are part of a broader trend of warmer winters across the Northern Hemisphere. Increased warmth and changing weather patterns have led to glacial retreat and unreliable snowfall across the globe, putting the future of alpine sports in jeopardy. Globally, we are in the warmest winter on record. Locally, the weather forecast for the Olympics “calls for more rain and warm temperatures for the next five days.”

Al Gore makes up the “facts” as he goes along. He hasn’t the brain of an earthworm. He got a Nobel Prize by pointing at charts with lies and made up “facts”, and that is the FACT. Please don’t try to convince any sane person that Gore has any cred at all.

Hurray!!! Check out “Climategate U-turn as scientist at centre of row admits: There has been no global warming since 1995.” Now let’s see…I had to wait ONE DAY after taking all the verbal abuse from these “CLIMATEGATE FANATICS” to watch the fake science they use EXPOSED.
Now let’s see if they celebrate for the GLOBE IS NOT DOOMED. If you take a issue to its foundation you usually will find the cracks of the theory. These scientists and promoters should be jailed for the burden they have put on developing countries and lining their own pockets. Al Gore, is KING HYPOCRIT, a six you old would understand that if the issue was that catatrosphic HE of all people should have parked his jet and used onlline chat to get the word out. He has burned more fuel than I ever will in a lifetime. Check out his electric bill in Tennessee….it’s public……DISGUSTING To all who were wishing the science to be true….I bid adieu…..and thanks for displaying your ignorance…it was soooo entertaining

You make a fairly good point, dustbunny. Of course, I can submit the same profit-motive argument to discredit your side. All those people who are claiming that we are killing the earth unless we switch to some alternative energy may just have their investments IN that so-called alternative energy. Credible evidence, one way or another, would seem to be in order. And I have to tell you…there is not much evidence out there proving that man, to any level, is increasing global temperatures, or having any kind of effect on the earth’s climate.

But I was fascinated with your other rants against “republican talking points.”

Do you really believe that it is a good idea to have your government managing your retirement money? You even mentioned social security, I suppose, as an example where the government is doing what must be considered a good job? Let’s examine social security…a “retirement program” in which which people have to be FORCED to participate. First of all, it wasn’t originally intended to be your retirement program, just a supplemental income to the retirement you saved on your own. But since people seem to universally accept it as a retirement program…how well is it funded? How much money is in the social security trust fund? What’s that? There’s NO money? Only I.O.U.’s?? All righty, then…that seems like a winning argument to convince everyone that government should be in charge of everyone’s retirement. NOT!

You seem to support government takeover of health care. Well, examine that idea. Has it been done before? Certainly, it has…and how is it working in countries that have gone to that system? Long lines, sub-standard care, unnecessary waits…a sure fire prescription for grade A health care, if you ask me! Personally, I want no part of a system like that…and increasingly large numbers of people in countries with that sort of system don’t want it either. By the way…did you bother to read the House & Senate bills that were being debated? They were absolutely horrible!!!

You seem to endorse taxing people who make “tons of money” more than they are already taxed. How could that possibly be a bad thing? Well, in capitalism, there is an idea that if people are allowed to keep more of what they earn, then they will produce more. And you know what? That works! If you take away (read: STEAL) their hard-earned profits, then individuals (companies, etc.) will have less incentive to produce, so guess what? They scale back or stop producing altogether!! This leads to more shortages of good and jobs. Just exactly what a country needs to battle its way out of a recession.

I am not especially concerned with gay people. Most conservatives aren’t, except when gay people try to publicly advance the idea that their deviant behaviour is in some way “normal.” I don’t care what you believe…it ain’t normal. And yeah, there are scary muslims. Of course there are scary black panthers and aryan nation fools too. Every segment of society has its nut jobs. But is it asking too much to expect prominent muslim leaders to speak out and condemn the actions of muslim terrorists? I certainly don’t have a problem condemning the actions of Timothy McVeigh.

And you are just wrong in the way you word your apparent support for abortion when you say people should “decide for themselves” not carrying a fetus to term “kills babies.” Killing IS killing. It really is that simple. Sometimes killing is justified…sometimes it is not. I happen to disagree with the idea that terminating a pregnancy for convenience or for profit is justifiable. But…let’s look at your argument in a different light. Would you support a rapist’s position that we should let people “decide for themselves” if violating a woman’s vagina is right or wrong? If you don’t support that idea, then why not? Because Rape is wrong. Right? Well, killing is wrong (generally speaking). And if there is an exception to be made for abortion, then what’s wrong with the idea of retroactive abortion? What if your mom all of a sudden decided today that she no longer wanted you and just killed you? What’s the difference? You are just as much a part of her body today as you were back then when you were occupying her womb. Once you were conceived, you were you.

As you might guess, I tend to lean conservative. That’s because conservatism is more intellectually honest and thoughtful than liberalism. I don’t think that liberals are evil people, but I do think that liberalism is laden with problematic thinking, inasmuch as most of it is based on emotion, with no consideration given to the outcome of ideas which seem good in theory, but are devastating in practice. I wish you well, my friend, and I hope that you will take a good honest look at your beliefs and be strong enough to challenge yourself and your thinking. God bless…

The science is no where near “95% certain” that global warming is happening. In fact, it’s leaning much farther in the OTHER direction, especially in light of the emails which have come to light exposing the fact that these “scientists” had to lie and manipulate data.

Dude, I hope that your nuclear engineering and marine biology training were better than your grasp of simple English grammar. Your degrees do not impress me when you have as much difficulty as you do trying to write simple sentences defending your bogus “science.”

Aw. Phil Jones feels that the debate has not been settled? Guess that means there is no such thing as climate change!
So, to call you out on your own talks of cherry-picking, perhaps I should point out the fact that Phil Jones is saying the debate is not settled on whether or not the medieval warming period was warmer or not than now. Man, you took his statement out of context.. Was that intentional?

Since you suddenly believe Phil Jones, let me quote him from that BBC article: “I’m a scientist trying to measure temperature. If I registered that the climate has been cooling I’d say so. But it hasn’t until recently – and then barely at all. The trend is a warming trend.”

Meanwhile, Michael “Nature Trick” Mann was cleared of any wrong-doing.

Oh, just for kicks.. This was released earlier today at guardian.co.uk!
‘But he said that “the science still holds up”. A subsequent study confirmed the original conclusion – that the global warming trend was not significantly affected by urbanisation – and showed that the precise location of the weather stations was not important.’

Oh, man.. So the weather stations measuring temperatures for years were not affected by being close to urban “amenities?” Ouch. I was certain that asphalt radiated more and more heat over time on it’s own!

There are no heros, only heroic acts. Some people join the service for noble reasons, some join to shoot the crap out of people with no consequences. To say that all military people are heroes is asinine. Over the past couple of decades there has been a growing mentality in both law enforcement and the military which says that no amount of risk is tolerable. Better to shoot up a bus filled with with civilians than risk one hair on a soldiers chinny chin chin. What happened in that video is murder, plain and simple. Whoever pulled the trigger is a murderer and should go to prison. Whoever was looking at that situation on the ground and interpreted it as a threat that needed to be liquidated should be court-martialled. Whoever is responsible for the rules of engagement that allowed it to happen should be reprimanded and fired at the very least. It's not fighting. It's butchery.

  • Satan

“showing US servicemembers shooting two reporters and six others to death”
Showing US service members murdering 8 people is more like it. As for the folks that say this is a Bush thing, not a Obama thing, take note that his defence secretary Robert Gates fully backs the murderers, because he himself is a sociopathic murderer. Those two pilots were practically masturbating to the murder. Calling the pilots decisions, “split-second”, he opined that, “”It's unfortunate. It's clearly not helpful. But by the same token, I think — think it should not have any lasting consequences.”

I'd love to see a bomb dropped on his family so someone could say, “eh, it won't have any lasting consequences.”

If you look at any of the big papers, they're comments being flooded with shitty propaganda aimed to rationalise the event, typical garbage you here from soldiers, Mohammed was a pedophile and whatnot, so shoot their kids blah blah.

    Charge the pilots with murder.

This has nothing to do with what president was in power or with political party, both parties and both presidents are to blame, Bush for starting the war and Obama for continuing it…and our representatives for voting to continue to FUND the war…this is horrible, an atrocity and the American people need to demand accountability…

Happened under Bu$h, yes. but STILL happening under 0bama.

    And
“another, even more harrowing… clip will show previously classified footage from US warplanes that had been tapped to bomb Taliban positions in Farah province, Afghanistan LAST YEAR.” … killing 86-147 civilians.
…LAST YEAR, as in 2009, as in 0bama was prez.

Until b.o. puts the bush crime family on trial and has the gonads to go through with prosecuting the monsters, he is guilty by association. I'm happy that many raw story readers are awakened to the left/right paradigm and are not fooled by the warlord obama. Yes, gl74, I am left wing, liberal, and I hate obama more than bush especially now that he pretends to be for the people but is so obviously corporatist. “Does the release of that video, and the fact that that happened damage the image of the U.S. in the world?” host Jake Tapper asked.

“I don't think so,” said Gates. “They're in a combat situation. The video doesn't show the broader picture of the firing that was going on at American troops. It's obviously a hard thing to see. It's painful to see, especially when you learn after the fact what was going on. But you talked about the fog of war. These people were operating in split-second situations.”

“And, you know, we've investigated it very thoroughly. And it's unfortunate,” he added. “It's clearly not helpful. But by the same token, I think it should not have any lasting consequences.”

The Patriot act under Bush has been renewed by Obama. Guantanamo under Bush is going under Obama. Illegal spying by the NSA and FBI on US citizens emails, literature (libraries), financial records, phone calls and secret searches of homes under Bush is going full blast under Obama. The Bush abandoned Afghanistan (Al Queida) was is now “surging” under Obama with no Al Queida present in Afghanistan. These are facts not truth. There is a difference. The Earth is between 8K and 12K years old and that's the truth.

  • BurstofSunshine

    More proof indeed.

Republicans in a state of fear, cheer them on, praise Jesus and have no regard for the victims.
Democrats in a state of denial, pretend it isn't happening or imagine how it would have been worse under Bush, and have no regard for the victims.

This essay looks at how Bush claimed the right to assassinate US citizens without trial, without presenting evidence and without challenge. But Bush never acted or admitted acting in that way. Obama once again, escalates the Bush crimes while his supporters look away, or are too busy with Sarah Palin to notice.

That topic is discussed more and more these days. Who is worse. O or B?

I submit that they are the same in that they are low lifes who serve corporatism and work to hurt the American people. The big difference is that Bush was watched and his crimes were loudly criticized by vigilant progressive and liberal groups. Now, about 3/4 of those groups who rightly howled and protested Bush have gone quiet in the Obama era. So Obama is able to get away with more bad deeds.

This website is a perfect example. In the Bush years you could count on raw to shine the light on any and all Bush crimes. I actually believed this site was opposed to war and war crimes.
But now they carry Obama's water, avoid coverage of his war crimes, apologize for his war crimes and rationalize them. They have shited half of their space to covering the Palin, Coulter, O'Reilly follies, dumbing down the news and denying their readers the truth about the Obama effect on our wars.

  • SSpeedracer

Commenting on this story doesn't seem to work either.

The internet is a double edged sword. It allows us instant knowledge while dampening our response.

15 years ago we might never have read about or viewed these murders. Conversely, 15 years ago people would be shutting down congress if they knew about these war crimes.

People fail to realize that posting a comment deriding the government accomplishes nothing to change the situation. In fact, it merely confirms the author is aware of these atrocities but prefers to do nothing in response.

Imagine how excited the CIA is too see the first Wikileaks video accomplished nothing (other than going “viral”). 15 minutes of fame, no public outcry, barely a public whimper.

My question is serious, What can I do to end these atrocities?

War: “It is all hell” …”It is a terrible thing” …W. T. Sherman (who knew it firsthand)

Don't be naive. If we allow our leaders to take us to war, then be prepared for hell on the battlefield. It cannot be cleaned up – no matter what proponents of “surgical” tactics say and no matter how much the “rules of engagement” try to lessen it. And, what is true of battles on “the field” are twice as bad in “urban warfare” where combatants mix with the local population of civilians.

If “The buck stops here” was good enough for Harry Truman (who also knew war first-hand) it should be good for today's and yesteryears' commanders-in-chief.

Send your complaints to the White House – with copies to Congress.

There is no justification for these murders – whether they be in the States or outside the States. Murderous acts committed by Americans should be prosecuted in court. Soldiers have no special privileges. If anything, they should be better trained to control their prejudices and hatreds than civillians. They were not under attack, and the men they killed were journalists, not posing a threat to anyone, just happened to be in a group, a couple perhaps had weapons, not exactly rare in Iraq. In Arizona we can walk around with guns – does this mean we intend to commit a crime – does it mean that a police helicopter can take us out?

  • libertate

An axiom from the dogma of American Exceptionalism is that Americans AREN'T required to know anything about the peoples being attacked and leads to the further axioms: The Only Good Indian is a Dead Indian; Better Dead than Red; Only Good Jap is a Dead Jap; and resulted in Genocide being waged on Indigenous peoples everywhere, not just in North America, and particularly against Asians, starting with anti-Chinese hyteria in the 19th century, the racist imigration quotas formulated in the 1920s, followed by the war to exterminate the Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Iraqis, and anyone else that gets in the way (and I've certainly left some out). Shoot first and ask questions later is still the mantra, but few people residing in the United States are willing to admit their natioanl government is as genocidal as the Nazis, and that the history of its genocidsal acts is as old–even older–than the United States itself. There was a brief time in the 1930s when the US citizenry demanded the military remain very small and enacted strict laws to govern the ability of the president and congress to become involved in warfare. Indeed, the Kellog-Briand Treaty that makes it unlawful for the US to use warfare as an extension of foreign policy was never rescinded and OUGHT to have prevented every US post-WW2 military action.

Since 1930, 4 generations of US citizens have come of age and the fifth is being born now. Each of those generations has experienced an ever increasing amount of indoctrination and propagandization at the hands of the two systems responsible for those tasks. The unmanned drones depicted in the first Terminator film are already a reality for Asians. And US proles are every bit as disconnected from reality as Orwell's and readilly accept the Bullshit explanations like the one fed to Porter. Given the comments written on this site, there are perhaps forty people like myself who are aware of the true state of affairs and WHY they are the way they are, and this site boasts 200,000 members. Soviet citizens knew they were being lied to; US citizens cannot tell fact from fiction on countless issues, and moreover they don't care or are too distracted by sports or something else on TV to even take the time to try.

You listen to them every day, repeating the same message.
You read about a bunch of civilians getting killed by our good guy forces.
You watch the video, and you feel sick to your stomach…..you know in your heart why.
    What would you do???

    A) Face reality and condemn this criminal act by your own government.
    B) Try real hard to rationalize it with tricks of the mind, because reality is too painful.

If enough Americans eventually chose A, we may be able to save our democracy. If most continue to chose B, we are done and undeserving of freedom.

JMD, Obama is center-right. To the left of far-right neocons does not mean you are a “lefty.” There is very little real “left” in the US. Anyone in Europe or Canada can attest to this.

  • DemsAreLiars

What Bullshit. I can take any video out of context and post it as though it were an isolated incident. Fucking liars did this last week and are repeating their bullshit.

  • Flower Child – Yes its ironic.

No one can justify that. Of course some of them have guns, I'm not sure the law of the land there, but I'm pretty sure people can have guns in America too. As for it being the pilot's fault, he acted on the information he was given, saw a guy with a camera, asked if it was a gun, whoever was spotting was a moron and far far far far too focused on the possibility of a threat, rather on protecting the lives of those in the group who were civilians, who are supposed to be protected by the military, ours or anyone's. This is what's wrong with war to begin with. If you join the military, you are signing up to protect civilians, yours before theirs, true, but when no American civilians are around, protect the non-American civilians. People keep forgetting that. Just stop the war, Bush/Obama/Lincoln/Washington/Roosevelt, I don't care, Left/Right/Wigs whatever, just stop the war idiotas.

Never mind the guy with the RPG who even sighted in on the helo shooting this video. Or the 2 men with AK's. It is unfortunate that bystanders were killed. But at this point they should all know better. You can't pick up a weapon in a conflict area and expect to not be taken as a combatant.

  • Boohoohoo

And WHAAAAAT has your precious Obama done with his one year???

    More troops in Afghanistan.
    More mercenaries in Afghanistan.
Record high number of drone strikes in Afghanistan.
Record high number of civilians killed in Afghanistan.
And all of the above, in Pakistan, something Bush never got around to.

    Closed GITMO? No.
    Stopped torture? No.
    Prosecuted BushCheny for torture? No.

Face it. Obama is Bush3, and the Obama supporters who have not yet figured that out are at least as stupid as the W Bush crowd.

  • Jim

Actually no calling Obama center-right is quite accurate, and is a testament to the right-wings taking over of politics in America. For instance the health care bill that Republicans are lamenting right now? Not much different (nearly the same) as the Republican counter to Clinton's proposal in the 90's.

  • Gunney87

The amount of hate in here in unreal. None of you asshats even know the real story. The clip you saw before wasnt shown in its entirety first of all. Second of all, has anyone here been to iraq or been in a war? These soliders are fighting for each other to stay alive, to make it home. While i dont agree with some of the decisions made i can see why they made them. In the prior video the van that was taken out by the apaches could have had a bomb on it, any number of things could have happened. I would have taken a different approach but regardless this is war. Its not the united states responsibility to wait for those idiot reporters to leave the scene. Clearly weapons were found amongst the bodies so in my opinion they did what they had to do. How dare any of you sit there behind you computers and bash these people. They follow orders and for the most part were once normal human beings like you and I. You dont know what the hell they have been through or seen out there so for everyone to be ranting on here is absolutely ridiculous. War does bad things to people and screws up others for life. All i know is that if i was over there id do whatever it takes to make it home. People are out there dying just so you miserable fucks can come on here and continue to have the privilage to even be able to go on your computer and enjoy your freedoms and all everyone can ever do is protest and display their hate. Unless you have been oversees shut the hell up.

  • Justin

I think it's easy to condemn folks in a situation that you aren't a part of, and that you have no background or context in.

Yes, from our vantage point and with the luxury of hindsight, we are pretty sure that not all of the guys on the ground have weapons.

But from the soldiers perspective, how is the guy on the ground with what looks like an RPG different from the same guy they saw yesterday and ended up blowing up their helicopter or their buddy's convoy? What about the number of “civilian” transports that ram into military checkpoints and the green zone with bomb-rigged cars?

In occupied cities in Iraq, there are rules against congregating in large groups with weapons. I'm not defending actions or words here (the audio on the tape is painful and despicable), but also realize the journalists knew what type of situation they were putting themselves into in the first place.

Again, I'm not trying to say anyone is lilly white here, but people need to think about the context before they start calling everyone baby killers and war criminals. It's a shame civilians die, but when the actual combatants constantly use them as cover and shields, it is an unfortunate reality.

The only problem with your diatribe is that every reason given to invade/occupy Iraq and Afghanistan was a premeditated lie. That makes all involved in the action, from the top down, from every country sending troops, a war criminal. Your comments lead me to believe you're the same kind of unquestioning order-follower as those hung after conviction at the Nuremburg War Trials.

Gunny87, eh? On which country did you help impose democracy?

Perhaps you're still in the military or some militarized law enforcement agency. If that's the case I don't doubt your attitude/approach is the same as the video heroes. If not I imagine you don't like the current administration. If so, from the way you rattle on here, I bet you're on at least one security alert list. Wouldn't it be poetic justice if the video boys were deployed out of NorthCom into your neighborhood?

You might look up “War Is A Racket” by Smedley Butler, who, BTW, was a double Medal of Honor recipient. Perhaps pensions and the Veteran's Administration should be funded by those who profit from war.

  • RealitySetsin

The helicopter didn't pick a random neighborhood. The video does not expressly point out the men with weapons. One can only assume that the soldiers' flippant attitude is the only way a sane person can view carrying out the task set before them. (“securing” a given area) The US did not invent dehumanizing the enemy. The forces on the ground are surely going to be asked to advance in this area and the air support is there to attempt to clear out those who would fire the same AK-47s in the video or RPGs at their humvees.
I am not seeking to justify either their action or the action of the entire effort, I don't believe anyone could. I could not watch the video without pausing it for several minutes to attempt to take in the horrific consequences of what I was about to see. The video did not pause for the pilots with an arrow clearly depicting unarmed journalists.

I think that the journalists may have underestimated the the risk of being in that area, with armed men.

  • Jason

Yea, every person in the USA should be held accountable. Next time we see some guy from USA we need to say “Hey, I know that was you in that Apache shooting civilians!”

  • Benjamin

Or we could say, “Hey, random USA citizen! Why don't you go get off your fat butt and change your entire government! Yea, I'm talking to you, you single person! The actions of a couple disgruntled soldiers makes every citizen of the USA accountable, you fucks. I'm so stupid that everything is USAs fault now!”

  • tjw509

You are so full of crap. Obama's policies are far more right wing than those of most of Europe. Are you saying Britain, France, Germany, Spain are all Socialist countries? Typical american that has no idea of how the world works.

  • BrassMonkey111

Happy to justify it. In regards to the Reuters incident, two WAR journalists were running around a WAR ZONE with armed men who weren't wearing uniforms. It's unfortunate that they were misidentified and killed, but those are the harsh realities of war. Civilian causalties and friendly fire incidents do happen. They understood the risks when they signed up.

The pilots were doing their job. Their friends and countrymen are on the ground in a hostile area, getting picked off by snipers, RPGs and IEDs. They saw a group of men sneaking around, peering around corners and carrying weapons, and took the opportunity to attack what they understandably saw as a group of enemy combatants. They followed their rules of engagement.

The van that was attacked was not an emergency vehicle – did you see a red cross or crescent on it? They may have been trying to help the wounded, or they may have been collecting weapons before US troops arrived so they could claim civilian casualties. You are all very naieve if you don't think that happens all the time.

As for the war in general, that's easy too: Some (not all) of the Afghan people harbored and continue to harbor the terrorists that attacked our country on 9/11 and seek to do so again. War is a terrible thing, but we'll do what we have to do in order to protect OUR citizens. As the only remaining “superpower”, I think that America has shown considerable restraint by putting soldiers at risk and using targeted munitions instead of levelling every area known to harbor terrorists.

There are zealots and good men caught up on both sides, but this is the world we live in. If you prefer to sing Kumbaya and protest while the zealots arm themselves, go ahead – that's your right. But if it comes down to us or them, you can bet it'll be them.

  • SKA

It was a mistake, that camera looked very much like a weapon of some type, everyone makes mistakes. But, of course, these guys probably will be put on trial for this and you know what all they were doing was their job. Would you rather it have been some guy with a real RPG, and instead hear on the news that 2 apache helicopters were shot down. And the next day see they're grieving families on the morning news. That's the choice you have over there, if you don't act then your dead.

  • BrassMonkey111

9/11 and Al Quaeda in Afghanistan were not premeditated lies – WMDs in Iraq were. So you're half right. The fact remains that the terrorists attacked New York, and Saddam attacked Kuwait and later sought to destabilize our allies. The US is not wrong for protecting its allies / interests in the region, and certainly not for protecting their people from terrorism.

Does the military fuel the US economy? Yes. Is oil running out? Yes. If you think we can all “live and let live”, you are all incredibly naive. I think you should hand-deliver your message of peace to Al Quaeda headquarters- see how that works out for you.

  • poster above me is an idiot

Look at the date moron. July 12, 2007. I guess Bush was a Socialist/Marxist too. Jeez! If the loss of life wasn't so tragic your pathetic blathering would be laughable.

  • Andey

What makes us deserve the oil? What makes us so great that we get to completely disrupt and destroy the lives of millions half way across the globe so that we can make an extra few bucks. Also, the military does not drive the US economy, not since WW2. The financial sector drives the US economy. We pump (and waste) billions to trillions on it and everyone gets pissy but it helps the economy whereas this useless war is just driving up national debt without much economic growth. War just doesn't make sense since we are not a manufacturing based economy anymore.

  • Joe

In my neighborhood if someone gets shot and I want to help them I don’t bring my kids into the gun fight. Doesn’t matter who’s neighborhood it was – The u.s. military are in the sky shooting people and a good parent should put the kids somewhere far away from that prior to rushing in to help. Also, some sort of white flag signal would probably be good.

  • John

This makes me feel ashamed to be an American. People really think we went over there to liberate them!? Wake the fuck up! The only thing we have done is plunge them into more chaos than before! There is not profit in liberation. Wake up! The government wouldn't do anything that we could not in turn profit from! These trillions of dollars we've spent killing innocent people over there could have been spent on cancer, heart disease research, and ect. that kills over 900,000 people per year. Instead of spending it on a war on terrorism that kills about 68 people per year. Terrorism is a blanket that has been put over the American people's eyes since 9/11, and it has worked to a tee. The men behind the curtain have gotten exactly what they want. The patriot act, which will inhibit any sort of rebellion or road block in their plans by giving them the ability to detain you indefinitely under any suspicious activity against the state or terrorism. And they got this war in Iraq that is meant to be maintained. Do you really think if we were at war over there we would be there for over 8 years! If we were truly at war this would have been over in a matter of months! Fucking RPG's against radio heat seeking predator missiles! What we have done is imperialistic and I am ashamed to pledge allegiance to a country as inhumane as this. If only the people could be educated and bring us out of this mess as a nation. The democracy we were founded on. No more of this imperialistic republic.

How people can defend the troops, or the war actually, anymore is beyond me:

“One time they said to fire on all taxicabs because the enemy was using them for transportation…. One of the snipers replied back, 'Excuse me? Did I hear that right? Fire on all taxicabs?' The lieutenant colonel responded, 'You heard me, trooper, fire on all taxicabs.' After that, the town lit up, with all the units firing on cars. This was my first experience with war, and that kind of set the tone for the rest of the deployment.”

“An act that took place quite often in Iraq was taking pot shots at cars that drove by,” he said, “This was not an isolated incident, and it took place for most of our eight-month deployment.”

“… on these convoys, I saw Marines defecate into MRE bags or urinate in bottles and throw them at children on the side of the road,” he stated.

“After that the ROE changed, and carrying a shovel, or standing on a rooftop talking on a cell phone, or being out after curfew [meant those people] were to be killed. I can't tell you how many people died because of this. By my third tour, we were told to just shoot people, and the officers would take care of us.”

Not going to bother with the comments about the video because what you saw, you saw and arguing about what you saw probably won't change what you saw. Last “superpower”? EU, and China are the other two, we lost one but gained two and look how they treat the world, AS EQUALS. It is your kind ignorance that brings those terrorists.

  • MKB

Gunney87 what the fuck are you on? where did you see any weapons in this clip? when the retarded guy on the chopper says he`s got an RPG ,he`s just saying that for a reason to shoot. Clearly that guy on the ground had nothing else but a camera in his hand. As for the “bomb van” they were clearly picking that wounded guy up. You can`t just shoot people because they might look suspicious wich is not even close to that in this case. The fact is you americans love war and you allow any brain damaged person to get on a chopper an shoot people just for fun.

Call him left, call him right, just don't forget to call him what he really is, a war criminal same as the guy before him.

  • http://www.mynext.co.uk steve

It's a brutal video, I do wonder if this will be a game changer. Wonder if national media will pick it up

  • Chris

The issue I had with the video was the van… and the wounded man the pilots were looking for excuses to open up fire… didnt follow the rules of engagement. They didnt care for the intelligence of the wounded man, as in him being interrogated if he was actually a terrorist.

At the time of the hell fire missles in the second part… it was not illegal for Iraqi's to carry ak47's since there was a civil war going on. 3 Families died in that apartment complex. Source: Democracynow.org exclusive.

I see how the first mistake was done, but the van is unexcusable… the hellfire missles into the apt complex I think is unexcusable too.

can you provide us with links of the whats so called unedited? , otherwise stfu, even an idiots can tell the difference between an ak and camera, get ur eyes fixed, and take an IQ lol

  • AK

So, should they have nicely approached the people and ask about their possible AK's and RPGs? And just risk getting killed to make sure and give these terrorists the benefit of the doubt? I feel bad that innnocent people got hit, but they were probably walking around with enemies who had weapons, if they don't want to get involved, then don't get involved with the wrong people, and stop hating on Americans. People say we shouldn't be over there, so should we just let them hate and despise us, and continue to grow their animosity and attack our country and not do anything? We aren't gonna let those Extremist barbarians have their way with the whole world. The US is trying to stabilize peace in the world so extremist groups aren't taking violence into their own hands for reasons that normal people don't agree with. We will never accept your bullshit Islam religion and I hope we clear out any person who wants to do harm to America or Americans.

  • AK

I laugh at foreigners who bitch about all the things America does. Talking about torture? So we should stop torturing people for information but be completely ok with anyone else in the world doing it? So Americans can be captured and tortured but we can't torture dirty extremists who are trying to fuck over the whole world? If someone doesn't step up and take care of these crazy assholes then eventually they will have the power to do what they want, without anyone intervening these people would have nuclear weapons in a few years, and you probably think that since the US has nuclear missiles then EVERYONE should be able to have them right? Well you are a delusional stupid ass, if those crazy taliban get a weapon like that they will use it in the name of their religion, and you are bitching about the US? The US could just drop a bomb and wipe out all of those crazy ass people and not have to worry about the world being destroyed when these crazies get the means to do so. You know Islams would blow up the world in the name of Allah, but I guess you are fine with that? I fucking hate people who stick up for terrorists or bash America for what they are doing. IF IT WERENT FOR US INTERVENING THE WORLD WILL BE GONE IN LESS THAN 50 YEARS WITH ALL THESE CRAZY FREAKS WANTING TO BLOW UP AND KILL ANYONE THAT DOESN'T FOLLOW THEIR CRAZY ASS RELIGION. WE WOULDN'T BE OVER THERE IF THEY DIDN'T ATTACK US AND CONTINUE TO TALK ABOUT HOW THEIR GOAL IS TO DESTROY AMERICA AND BASICALLY FUCK UP THE WORLD SO IT IS BACK TO THEIR 3RD WORLD BARBARIC WAY OF LIVING IN CAVES AND MUD HUTS, WEARING RAGS AND WORSHIPPING SOME ASS BACKWARDS RELIGION.

I believe you are mistaken. People died in World Wars for American freedom. Since then every dead soldier has been a wasted life, thrown away by empire building politicians. The soldiers die now for oil rights and Bush family bragging rights. A pipe dream democracy in the Middle East in an Islamic nation that will never accept democracy. We don't even have a real democracy here in the US. I do agree though, that the US soldiers are victims too. Most of them are pulled off farm land and out of the ghettos and marched of to murder and die in the name of Christ, empire building, and oil. Insulting people who are outraged at the senseless, needless deaths of innocent civilians just makes you sound like a blood thirsty extremist.

Can’t pick up a camera or pick up your kids – can’t try to get an innocent bystander out of the line of fire – and expect to be taken as an enemy combatant –

You have a good IQ to be a cop, but if you want to be a bad soldier – forget it – I would frag you myself if you were in my unit – go join the cops – they are always looking for a few dumb men who will follow orders – any orders

Let me make it clear Joseph – no RPG’s no AK47′s – not one in the whole video – you can not find one there – the people are carring camera bags, cameras, children, dead bodies of their friends – but no RPG’s and no AK47′s – why don’t you check to see what something like that looks like and understand that neither one looks like a camera bag or a camera – even if the camera has a telephoto lens –

My impression of the video is cop mentality – shoot first – deny later – which is why the video vanished for two years – the shooters are liable – the officers who hid the video are liable – and anybody else who compounded these crimes are liable – soldiers are not trained to act this way – the protections afforded soldiers do not apply to soldiers who wantonly kill non-combatants, and describing camera bags and camera as AK47′s and RPG’s is just a ploy to shoot any non-combatant they come across, legally.

You better check your law. We executed Nazis who targeted civilians. We executed Nazis who simply followed orders, because they had the choice to kill noncombatants or not kill them. These officers had the choice – and disregarded the choice so they could have a little fun. And they should be tried, not here – but where these crimes were committed.

Don’t forget to look up what an RPG or an AK47 looks like. They are not one handed weapons that one can store in a camera bag. You know it – and that pilot knew it as well.

  • smikey

I made almost exactly the same post as you in another forum, and to add, there was no RPG. That was admitted by the Commander afterwards, and without an RPG it makes a nonsense of all that happened. I've not heard about families being killed by the missile though.

  • buttercup

You don’t need cover to take a picture in a war? And that just looked like a hefty telephoto lens… the kind war photographers use, the kind that take pictures of car races use.

  • buttercup

Also they weren’t even aware of the helicopter much less were they aiming anything at it. And the battle zone is a neighbourhood where people live. In fact it was that before it was a war zone. it might be better said not to drive your war into a neighbourhood like this one.

  • dblagbro

haha, those jackasses in the chopper are going to have sad pathetic lives when they try to 'live' when they get back here/home… LOL, fucking LOL, anyone willing to join the US military in this era is an imbicil… especially my brother in the navy.

we should have nuked the whole middle east if it was worth sending one person… and it wasn't worth sending one person, but if its worth going at all, its worth nuking. that deterant worked with the ussr and it would work with the middle east… of course we'd have to make some glass to prove it but it would definately work.

if you disagree, you too are an idiot but you're entitled to that idiotic notion by our liberties in this country, which sadly, other idiots had to give their lives to protect and give you. …there;s some irony for you.

It's actions like this by our military that prove my opinion of our country's foreign policy…The US is the emotional tampon of the world. Here is a novel approach to taking out the terrorists: Why don't you get concrete proof of who you are after, confirm they are dangerous, track them/follow them, put people in place to infiltrate from the inside and THEN ACT! Oh wait…I think I saw that one guy carrying a WMD! Wait…there were WMDs in that van….the kid had it strapped around their body! Needless deaths is what I saw!

  • BuckJohnson

For all the people who thought this was okay or that those Reuters guys shouldn't have been there (the reason they where there was that no american couldn't go where they could without risking being taken prisoner), here's something to think about. For over 60 years we have been the one kicking on other peoples butts. What I fear is that one of these days we will be on the receiving end of a butt kicking and instead of those being Iraqi's or reporters, it will be Mr. Johnsons down the street with other neighbors wanting whatever coalition out of the US. And then this coalition will shoot at them with 20 mm shells from their aircrafts. You remember the 4 soldiers who raped the 13 year old girl and killed her and her family and burned them. How would you like it if it was 13 year old samantha down the street and her family in your county or town.

We never think of the consequences of what we do because we don't think it will be done to our people, period.

  • Zim

But can you tell the difference between an AK and a camera TRIPOD from up in a helicopter?

How about an RPG from a CAMERA? Something like this?? http://bit.ly/9DFt5L

(Which is what it looked like to me from the video)

I had also heard that the people allegedly with AK's were the photographers armed bodyguards, which would make sense in a WAR ZONE.

  • Joe

The “reporters” looked like they had weapons, and even if they were just carrying “a lot” of camera gear, why were they hanging out with a bunch of guys with weapons? Including an RPG that aimed up at the Heli shooting the video? And they didn't know children were in that Van. Who brings children into a battle zone? The military did what they were sent to do – find insurgents and kill them before they can fire their RPGs. That guy aiming his rocket around the corner of the building sealed everyone's fate. All of you judging the military and the U.S. as a whole for this are plain stupid. “Reporters” shouldn't be hanging around with the common enemies of the United States and the people of Iraq while those men are armed with a U.S. heli overhead. Assuming the reporters had no weapons, what were they doing there with those obvious insurgents?

  • jlink005

People see what they are looking for. When we watched the people in this video, we were looking for camera men and we saw them. When the helicopter pilots and gunners looked down at the people in the street, they were looking for hostile targets carrying around machine guns and rockets and they saw them.

I'm not sure if it's the fault of our commanders who imprint the idea of “everyone's a potential terrorist” in our soldier's heads, but it's definitely not the fault of the news team that got raped. Some have brought up the point that these people shouldn't have been walking around looking like they were carrying weapons (even though some of them probably were) and that they brought it on themselves. I think that we shouldn't go into a turbulent region where this kind of thing is ingrained in the local culture and use everything we see as an excuse to attack. If we just shoot everybody because we don't have enough knowledge and understanding about their culture to tell the difference between real threats and self-illusions, then something's wrong and we need to take a step back and rethink things a bit.

From the outside, looking in, you are correct. Speak that opinion when you’ve seen children in a vehicle that detonates 30 seconds later on site. To think on a personal level of “leave the children and women behind, this is for the men,” is absurd. Children wield ak47′s, yet on the home front and through the media it’s “oh no, not the women and children.” Do you cry when a U.S. Soldier is ambushed by a child he reaches his hand out for? No, because as internet “non conformist” media, we try to show the shit they wont show you on tv. Guess what? They show us nothing, so trying to show the black market of nothing is a double edged sword.

3:39 into the original video, and you clearly see that men other than the “reporters” were carrying weapons. Whether or not the person peering around the corner had a RPG is debatable, but if he didn't then he had the longest camera I've ever seen in my life. Why did he need to peer around a corner for a picture? You usually don't need cover when you're taking a picture… I don't blame the military. I think perhaps people shouldn't be so dumb as to gather in the street and aim ANYTHING, camera or not, at military helicopters… and then drive your kids into the battle…

I understand that the pilots in this video could have mistaken the cameras for guns and even thought that the group was hostile towards them given their circumstances of being in a foreign country fighting a war and everything, but dammit – there is a difference between interpreting a situation correctly and being a trigger happy helicopter pilot, and you can tell by just listening to the pilots that they might be just a little big trigger happy. But regardless, as a photojournalist myself, that is a risk you take going into an area like that. It's just too bad that those pilots couldn't have waited for ground troops to engage instead of taking matters into their own hands, I'm sure those journalists and children could still have been alive and well today.

“Super-power” is a self-ingratiating and meaningless term. Conventional armies are an obsolete concept; they are entirely superfluous unless you plan to engage in wars of imperialism against non-nuclear states.

You aren’t able to attack western Europe, Russia, China or India because you’re not willing to suffer the horrendous consequences of a nuclear exchange. The military dick-waving stuff is just a farce.

As a United States Marine this really offends me. We risk our lives on a daily bases so that a 9/11 will never happen again. And as a Marine we are told over and over again to never hurt a civilian. we even have to think twice before we shoot to save our own lives because of how ridiculous rules of engagement are. So instead of accusing us, try thanking us.

WHY DON'T YOU FUCKTARDS PUT IN A LINK TO WIKILEAKS?

  • Andrew G

I' m confused…. In what way were the Iraqis/ Afghans/ (and now I guess Pakistanis) threatening my freedoms? I HAVE fought for my country AND been in a war, so your too cool for the room attitude is not washing with me. We are there illegally. Plain and simple. When the threat is brought to my door, I will be in another war I guess. But never again based upon the lies being told by the federal government. Right you are: Those soldiers just want to come home, and sometimes we make decisions on the fly that are not all that great when recorded and reviewed. That does not excuse the lies that were told by the brass to cover it up. The fury should be directed at the people in the fed who lie to our faces and do whatever the hell they want. The ol' bait and switch: WMD's that did not exist, and overNIGHT it turned into liberating these people! Unacceptable!! I have LOTS of weapons… does that mean I am to be killed by 30MM fire?

  • Buckwild Militia

Is this not a war?? War is ugly, bloody, and there should be a winner and loser, no ties. If you are on the other side of the line, you are fair game. Those people are cowards and that's the way they operate, they hide behind the innocent and hurl bullets and grenades thinking that we wouldn't dare fire upon them, sorry but ratta-tat-tat. MOVE ON TO THE NEXT TARGET.

  • cj

This story seems to have been reported with slight bias. The journalist need to stay objective and let the facts speak for themselves.

    Gunney87?
You are a fucking idiot – if the people who commit war crimes are not able to stand up to the voice of the people – they should be put down. You have no right to tell the people anything – you wish to come on here and shout your orders to people to shut the hell up – your authority ends at the tip of your nose to us – unless you wanna pull out your m16a1 and make us shut up? Then I doubt most of us would. The Military does not do things the way the rest of the world does – Do not forget the military is always a necessary evil – it has to be like that or there is no organization. In a sense – the military is a very socialistic or even communistic approach to warfare – but there is no other approach.
My belief is that you are spouting bullshit from a limit perspective – soldiers are always right – but you are wrong and it makes your argument wrong – when a soldier commits a crime – that person is no longer protected by the rules – no longer a soldier – no longer entitled to shit. I hate guys that execute civilians and innocent bystanders under the color of pretending it is warfare that they are conducting against the non-combatants – that is what pisses me off – that is what I want to get rid of – war is war – but this video depicts execution of noncombatants – nothing less – so you better get your head straight gunney – cuz your attitude won't fly in my marine corps – fix the problem, don't complain against those who want it stopped – fix the fucking problem – if you can't fix it – then shut the hell up

There is at least one AK but is being carried by the journalists ARMED guards, they didn't have anywhere on their person stating they are press i.e. PRESS written across their chest. But these soldiers should not have been so trigger and blood thirsty.

    Everybody…please….calm down for a second or two…
Then google for something called “Winter Soldier”.
After that google on for “Winter Soldier 2008″.

    Grant yourself those few seconds.
It's about ten seconds or so.
    Just do it.
    Come on.

Winter Soldier – Check it out and you WILL know why EVERY war in the last 6000 years sucked. Be brave. Do it.
It's just some typing and listening to REAL veterans and patriots.
You know what? I'll make it even easier for you:
Who doesn't dare to check out “Winter Soldier” is a communist.
    There you go.
    Hit it.

to AK. the USA was never & still not interested in peace, everything the USA does in any region is for its benefit, also for the record IRAQ did get near the USA, no bombs or missile, it was from ” oussama ben laden” Afghanistan, also do u know that Oussama Ben laden was a CIA agent. so it all a play. USA objective is to take control of all th oil in the region, so now there is Iraq, and Iran in its way. that is why USA went into Afghanistan and neighbor countries, just to surround Iran, and the other regions, because of that now the gulf is for USA. USA should BUD OFF from all the countries it is controlling and because of that people are hating USA. also the government is manipulating or brain washing all its citizens so they can get support for the war using media, internet, ads, etc… and it is clear to any person to see that a van came to take the wounded to help them, but the helicopter pilot was so hyper to kill anything moves, and waiting for the green light, he killed all those people. because at this stage all those troops after living and going to war in Iraq killing is like a play to them, it is good to see this video leaked, because i think there is a lot of other video that were barbaric, or killed more innocent people. i think AK u should go learn more about other culture, because about 70 % of the US citizen don't know anything about inside or outside of their country.

unless you've been there and lived it your views don't mean shit……..the United States and its armed services take more more measures to ensure civilian aren't killed or wounded on the battllfield than any other nation in the world. the sunni and shia attacks on one another have claimed more lives than the US has caused accidently. this isn;t about religion its about power…i have seen first hand what these arabs will do to each other to achieve it. Fuck you and god bless our troops

  • Duh

Ummm…no technology exists that can scan the ground for live ammo or rockets. Iraq is a gritty warzone, not some Michael Bay movie with all kinds of fancy techno gadgets.

Oh and guess what? There were AKs and RPGs and ammo on the ground.

  • Josh

A tenth of a second means your life or theirs. This video tries to persuade you into feeling like you know the photographers on a personal level, while focusing on the troops in a cold non emotional stance. What would you say if they had been insurgents, and the video surfaced of the helicopter being blown up by a RPG? Would you care? Would you say casualty of war?

This is friendly fire, miss communication between two parties.

  • Hasan

ok then thank us from saving the world from Hitler…”you’re welcome”. Almost every American is outraged by this and a lot of the ones that aren’t are in the military. Soldiers are being brainwashed into thinking collateral casualities are an acceptable part of war, we need to change the way we train our troops for a lot of peoples’ sake.

best way to protect citizens and avoid killing children? get out of the war-zone. duh. shame on anyone who feels violence is going to solve anything.

  • JMV

All justification, regarding the children. They have to thnk that way to be able to do what they do. Imagine some powerful country took us over in the name of “liberation”. You don't think we'd be out there doing whatever we could to stop them? You wouldn't run to help a friend in that situation? And whomever said this hap[pend under Obama's watch apparently wasn't paying attention to the date – year 2007. In any case, we shouldn't be there now and Obama is a disappointment.

What is chilling is how cavalier these soldiers are…joking about the dead bodies, laughing. Even if they are considered our “enemy”, there does not need to be such revelry over the taking of life. It is a deadly serious job that nobody should find fun in doing. But this is a very sad and truthful video about war, and what we've come to. We should never have been there….the gates of hell have been opened. Winning hearts and minds? To whose side? Many more Bin Ladens are a result of this.f

  • Anonymous

Perhaps they were driving and received a cell phone call for help, and responded not knowing what, exactly, was happening. Remember, THEY are the VICTIMS, NOT the PERPETRATORS!! Besides, where, in Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Pakistan is “far away” from shooting, bombing, rockets from the sky? We are still wrong for being there, regardless of the “justification”. It isn’t now somehow legal to be there now that leaving would leave NO central government in charge, and assured civil war, just like in Afghanistan. Think what it would be like here in the U.S. if the Federal Government were to fail. With all the crazies out of the closet, the U.S. would make the Balkans look like a church picnic.

  • Signas

Wow you guys are so pathetic. You completely ignored the main idea of his posting (which by the way brings up a very interesting point that maybe, just maybe, the soldiers were doing their job and this was all a big misunderstanding) and decided to focus on a minute detail, i.e. him saying that America is the last remaining superpower, in order to try to somehow dismantle his credibility.

This is why debates go nowhere these days. A bunch of moronic people arguing over the fine details instead of what really matters: WTF happened in this video? was it a mistake? were the soldiers wrong? how can we even be sure that those men are who the editors of this video say they are? and the most important detail, why the hell should we even believe this crap? Where does the poster establish his credibility? For all we know those two men could have been ronald mcdonald and big bird on their day off. Grow the fuck up and start using your brains

  • Danniy

those morons claim they are trained millitary and act uppon some pictures and immages taken from air? they saw crap and did not identify correctly. They should resign from military service and go wash toilets.

  • Dan

The soldiers in question did not follow the rules of engagement.

The head of Wikileaks was interviewed on The Colbert Report and he thoroughly debunks the military’s depiction of the events seen in (and the events surrounding) this incident. Robert Gates is a liar and soldiers have falsified reports so as to give the appearance/illusion that no crime or cover-up has taken place (isn’t it convenient that the U.S. Military has “lost” their copy of this video?).
    http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/270712/april-12-2010/julian-assange

May God have mercy on Secretary Gates, all of the soldiers that knowingly covered up the facts regarding this incident and on the military members that perpetrated this atrocity.

For those people that argue that the pilots (soldiers) were “just doing their jobs,” I would like to remind them that the Nazis used the same argument and lost.

I will grant you (BrassMonkey111) one point; President Obama is almost as culpable as President Bush (43) in the deaths of these people. But just because Obama perpetuates war crimes does not mean that Americans (left or right) should find it acceptable. Period.

  • Dan

During the most recent WarGames the United States’ Air Force lost to India and the Navy lost to China. The fact that we have a nuclear arsenal (and the fact that we have used these weapons on civilians) is the only thing that perpetuates the illusion that the U.S. is the strongest military “Superpower”.

Our military leaders are cowardly murderers. I say cowardly because they don’t pull the trigger themselves.

  • Dan

We invaded Iraq based upon lies (i.e. WMD). After this was shown to be the case, President Bush then changed the justification of the war to “liberating Iraqi people” from a barbaric dictator (Saddam).

What is funny/ironic/hypocritical is that most of the people that support the war in Iraq would probably call the Civil War the “War of Northern Aggression.” They would probably agree with politicians like Ron Paul who state that Lincoln should have purchased the slaves from their owners (to sidestep war and save lives and money).

These people disagree with Lincoln liberating the slaves but laud Bush for liberating the Iraqi people (even liberating some 100K+ from their mortal shells).

Most people who advocate war have never seen war (or its effects). These people treasure their ignorance. When people try to open the eyes of war proponents to the facts, they are met with anger and claims that these “truthers” are un-American/patriotic. How dare we point out the absence of ethics/morals!

At least BrassMonkey111 can (somewhat) admit that the war was really over oil. So I guess that is a start. But hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

This is disgusting. War is never pretty. To the people who took a risk to show the taxpayers what they're paying for: you have my admiration and respect. I am a patriot, I love my country, but I think the government needs to change with the times. We (the people) have had the audacity to “trade one tyrant three thousand miles away for three thousand one mile away.” Now it is time to be done with tyranny altogether. With the communication technology we've developed, we should no longer be depending on so called 'representatives' who fail us time and again. We should have a more open government that simply publishes all of the facts that our so called leaders have access to and provides a secure method to vote on the issues at hand. Obviously it won’t be a perfect solution as some things need to remain a secret, such as the location of troops and weapons. However, it would prevent the consolidation of power to a few individuals. I believe the majority of issues could be voted on directly by the people, for instance, the whole healthcare scam/political distraction. I believe in the American people. I believe that the majority of the American people would do what is right for our nation to lead the world, not dominate it. Come next election, I’m not going to bother choosing the lesser of two evils, which unfortunately I have been forced to do time and again. I don’t have time to waste choosing between a dumb elephant or an ass, between a woman, an African PossiblyAmerican, or an old guy with a- well, I won’t even go there. As far as I'm concerned, our politicians have been an embarrassment to our nation and they should all be thrown out. I don’t have time to bother with all of the political distractions, agendas, correctness, or politicians in general, with their billion dollar campaigns, and wars against an idea that can be changed to fit whoever pulled the triggers reasoning.
That is why, for the next presidential election, I will write in 'We the People'.

Sorry buddy, they are all at the Tea Party acting concerned about the fact that they have lost money in the stock market.

Dead Civilians? what about dead stocks, the price of gas and food?

My Portfolio is down 75%, I am outraged!!!!

The AAARABS aint people killem all and God Bless Sara Palins gorgeous legs!

That is the attitude of my countrymen and it sickens me, I would leave tomorrow if I had the money.

They want the country to turn against the President, I have been amongst them and it is not pretty.

The Tea Party was real in 2007 but the Neocons took it over, does anyone want them back in control?

Tea Party = undercover George .W. Bush supporters & warmongers, they need to tone it down before things get out of hand, they loved the Patriot Act when Bush brought it in but I promise they wont love it when they force President Obama to use it.

Bull you big A, I agree he should end it but YOU guys started it, worshiped it, made money from it and now you act all Holy at the Kool Aid parties.

I was there when the Tea Party was real, what you got now is bunch of idiots listening to a bunch of liars who are laughing at the stupidity and lack of mental function and memory of the Kool Aid Party.

I am a gun owner but I don’t bring a gun to talk with my Congressman, Republicans are nuts if they think this will not get out of hand.

Agreed but running into the arms of the people who brought us here is just crazy.

Do you see who is at the head of the Tea Party?

Its the bastards that got America to where she is today, its a fake and dangerous movement.

I don’t love Obama but Its not exactly Somalia with food riots so all things considered I will keep my cool.

Maybe Obama is waiting until we get closer to reelection to pull out the big guns, as they say “save your best tricks for last”

Who are you to say they should get in close and compromise there lives as well. It wasn’t the soldiers fault, it was the intel suggesting enemy activity. Retard. Think before you speak.

  • generalzbynio

You sound like a military, or at least somebody who knows what the things are. So please tell me where have you seen those RPGs and other stuff in the movie? I saw maybe 1 AK47. Maybe something what looked like AK47? RPG is slightly bigger than AK and I haven’t seen any. They say “one guy is shooting” Where is the fire and smoke? I haven’t seen any. Were they troops? They had no uniforms! There were no red cross on the vehicle? This was not a military vehicle either! WTF are the rules of engagement there? Kill anybody who is not dead yet? It just looks like your heroes play a computer game trying ot kill as many as possible. And actually, in case you haven’t realised that yet, that’s what makes zealots, how you call them, arm themselves. So you create your ghosts by yourself. Maybe to have a good reason later to explain why you spend so much money of American taxpayers to arm yourself.

  • generalzbynio

And you really believe that this shit talking here will help anybody and change anything?

  • sfrank711

I'm sorry but I don't see the issue here. So a couple of journalists/photographers got smoked while hanging out with insurgents carrying weapons, unfortunately that's a risk they take that comes with their profession. Innocent civilians don't carry weapons and peek around corners while waiting for some troops (targets) to roll by. This is not murder, it's war, and people die. Sometime they deserve it and sometimes they don't. It's easy to sit in front of a computer and judge those that are in the middle of it but it's a far different thing to have to participate and live with the consequences of your actions. Those servicemen who were involved in this incident undoubtedly were informed of the status of the journalists and now have to live with that knowledge. But in the heat of the moment, I see nothing wrong or hasty about the the actions taken. As far as the kids are concerned, that's horrible. But taken in context, with the insurgents' SOP of policing up the bodies and weapons of their fallen comrades, those that were driving that van put those children in harms way. It may sound insensitive and unsympathetic but I say to those soldiers involved, “Good shooting and hell of a job. Keep doing what you're doing and stay safe.” Now to all of you peaceniks and tree huggers, either do your time in the military and earn the right to protest the war and sympathize with those godless bastards over there, or shut the hell up.
