Update: Escort tells paper Rekers is homosexual

The newspaper that busted a Christian leader with a male escort ran a follow-up story Thursday afternoon:

The male escort hired by anti-gay activist George Alan Rekers has told Miami New Times the Baptist minister is a homosexual who paid him to provide body rubs once a day in the nude, during their ten-day vacation in Europe.

Rekers allegedly named his favorite maneuver the “long stroke” — a complicated caress “across his penis, thigh… and his anus over the butt cheeks,” as the escort puts it. “Rekers liked to be rubbed down there,” he says.

….

Lucien decided to speak out after a heart-to-heart with a friend, Michael, who alerted him to the grim realities of his client’s anti-gay activities. Lucien, who had originally declined to speak about the trip, now says he can do little good by protecting his erstwhile, fundamentalist client.

In the past 24 hours, Rekers, a board member at the National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) and cofounder of the Family Research Council, has claimed he took Lucien to Europe to inspire him to accept Jesus into his heart and renounce his homosexuality.

Lucien now offers Rekers a counterproposal: “In all honesty, he should disassociate himself from these [anti-gay] groups.”

The New Times “spent more than three hours with Lucien in the wee hours of Thursday morning and promises future updates throughout the afternoon to a story which “has grabbed worldwide headlines and been the subject of monologues by Steven Colbert and Jay Leno.”

A Christian leader and prominent neuro-psychiatrist who co-founded the Family Research Council with evangelist James Dobson took a ten-day European vacation with a callboy he met through RentBoy.com and was caught in an airport with the escort by a Miami newspaper.

The escort said he had met George Rekers, professor of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science at the University of South Carolina, on RentBoy.com. Rekers, when confronted, didn’t deny that he’d met the callboy online, but said he had hired him to help him carry his baggage and didn’t learn he was generally hired for “private company” until mid-way through his European vacation.

“I had surgery,” Rekers told Miami’s New Times, “and I can’t lift luggage. That’s why I hired him.” (The paper noted that it didn’t stop him from pushing a “tottering” pile of luggage through Miami International Airport.)

The callboy, identified by a pseudonym, told the New Times‘ Penn Bullock and Brandon Thorp that Rekers claim that he didn’t know his “line of work” seemed spurious.

“He should’ve been able to tell you that,” he said. “But that’s up to him.”

According to Penn and Thorp, the slender, 20-year-old escort’s profile advertises his “smooth, sweet, tight ass” and “perfectly built 8 inch cock.” RentBoy.com’s profiles are not indexed by Google.

“It is clear that Rekers has baggage and certainly needs help,” said Wayne Besen, a prominent opponent of the “ex-gay” movement and director of the nonprofit Truth Wins Out. Referring to South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, a conservative who claimed he was hiking when he’d actually been meeting with a mistress, he added: “At least he did not say he was walking the Appalachian Trail.”

“This is a bombshell that completely discredits the ex-gay industry and proves that the movement is a fraud,” Besen added.

The paper printed emails exchanged between the professor and the escort prior to their trip. Rekers co-founded the conservative and anti-gay Family Research Council with Rev. James Dobson in 1983.

“I’d like to propose another trip to Rome, Italy, for a week or more,” Rekers purportedly wrote in an Mar. 21 email obtained by New Times. “This is so exciting to have a nice Travel Assistant and traveling companion! Wow! I’m so glad I met you.”

“I called and talked to the reservation guy in London and reserved a room with two twin beds,” Rekers allegedly remarked in a later email.

Rekers is a prominent advocate against gays in Florida, where he resides. He testified against Florida allowing gay couples to adopt, asserting that children of gay couples “living with a practicing homosexual in the adoptive home,” are especially “vulnerable to psychological damage and an increasing inability to adapt.”

A commenter on a California Catholic daily, which reported the findings of Rekers’ investigations into gay adoption, remarked, “The active principle in these children’s stress is the fact that their welfare comes in dead last in the homosexual lifestyle – it is oriented toward grooming them for traumatic early sexualization and exploitation by adults.”

The escort told New Times that Rekers is “primarily a family man,” despite their European jaunt.

“You don’t understand how much this guy honestly cares about taking care of kids,” he was quoted as saying.

Reker is the author of “Growing Up Straight: What Families should Know about Homosexuality.”

Yup…perfectly legal in Va to fire someone / not hire someone if they are gay–no other reason needed. He should be so proud. Emailed my Alama ,JMU today,–they accept this—not another dime from me–ever.

  • Anonymous

I use to live in VA but I will never go through there again and spend my money in that racist state.

  • Anonymous

Yes I think that license plate should say that. I will boycott the state.

  • Anonymous

yup…funny…Va is doing a big promo ad campaign/competition for the “va is for lovers”.. I’m pretty sure they don’t see the irony.

Don’t hire any Virginia graduates until they have fairness in their system.

Just as I will not hire anyone who cannot intelligently discuss how evolutionary processes are seen in business.

We have power, let’s use it.

Okay, so let me get this straight (pardon the term). We’re in the midst of a near-depression, we’re involved in two wars overseas, unemployment is sky-high, states galore are having budget crises, people who need help can’t get it, and Va Republicans’ priority is to reverse discrimination laws?

It will noot be long until he gets caught driving drunk with a gay prostitute or toe-tappping under bathroom stalls then he will be out of the closet

    So much for special rights.

Gays and lesbians will have to fall back on the regular rights of every American citizen.

    Welcome back.

I’m assuming that Bob McDonnell is another closeted homosexual.

Let’s welcome Virginia once again into the Dark Ages.

I’m waiting for some kind of homosexual skeleton to come out of McDonnell’s closet. It’s almost a sure bet!

Stop protecting Christians too. We might want have some fun with them.

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out–
    because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out–
    because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out–
    because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out–
    because I was not a Jew;
    Then they came for me–
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

women’s rights…probably next…that was in his law school thesis ( from non other than Pat Robertson’s school). “women shouldn’t work outside the home”.He claims this was his thinking from his “youthful” days and has progressed since then. Guess he thinks being in his 30′s is still formative years.

“This, despite the fact that the entire country is moving towards granting our GLBT fellow citizens equal rights with everyone else in all areas.”

It’s not even a matter of “granting” rights, it’s really more that people are starting to just stop denying them their rights. I see nothing in the constitution that says ANYTHING about sexual orientation being a deciding factor over whether you have rights or not. ALL MEN are created equal. PERIOD. Not ALL MEN (except for the gays, the lesbians, the cross dressers, the bi sexuals, and anyone else whose sex lives we don’t approve of).

This DA is showing himself to be nothing more than a reactionary right wing asshole. How about if we stop protecting religious dirt bags who want to discriminate against others for things that they themselves aren’t even involved in? Or are they…

And just where did Christ say to love your fellow man EXCEPT for the gays, lesbians, bi sexuals, cross dressers, etc? I don’t recall reading that part. He saved a prostitute from being stoned by and angry crowd. What does THAT say, and why do so many of these “Christian” types ignore things like that? Oh, that’s right, their conservabible says that Christ’s message is all about financial management. Somehow, seeing as how the ONLY time he is documented to have lost his temper, it was against those who loved money more than anything else. I think we know where these modern folks fit in to the story.

Yep, Virginia is for lovers. Lovers of hate and bigotry.

I wonder if this guy’s going to pull protections for Christians and Straights?

Time to maybe send a nice message to the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce Office notifying it you won’t spend any vacation dollars there.

The “special rights” we gays have here in Va– via the Marshall/Newman amendment.
Any rights given or assumed because of marriage is illegal for same sex partners. This includes–right to visit in hospitals. right to carry out wishes for burial -living wills–employers even offering health benefits to partners, much less covering–all not allowed by law. Yup voted on and passed into law by my fellow virginians that are stuck still fighting the “war of Northern Aggression”.

That haircut- that suit and tie- his name is Ken- why doesn’t the VA Attorney General just come out and publicly proclaim that he is sexually aroused by other men? It bothers him because his pastor has told him it’s wrong and his savior, who was unmarried and wandered the desert with 12 dudes, says it’s wrong. So in an attempt to hide his true feelings, he lashes out against his fellow queers, hoping to persuade people he’s not one.

You can tell we have a real class act here. To a normal decent human being, the response to “We do not have the same protection clauses as someone else” is NOT “They must get rid of theirs” – it’s “WE must ADD THEIRS.” I am disgusted that anyone should have to spell it out to this lowlife.

“Protected class” means that you have the same rights as everyone else but they’re being specially affirmed for you because there are bigoted assholes out there who think you don’t have them.

Like the right not to be fired because of your sexual orientation. Straight people actually get that right too from anti-discrimination laws based on sexual orientation EXCEPT 99.999% OF THE TIME THEY DON’T ACTUALLY NEED IT ASSHOLE.

GET IT? Anti-discrimination laws don’t give us special rights other citizens don’t have. They simply reaffirm that we have the SAME rights.

Just in case you didn’t get it the first time I’ll explain it to you again.

Anti-discrimination laws based on sexual orientation protect EVERYONE EQUALLY. It’s just that straight folks don’t need the protection of those laws. Gay people do.

It is very hard being the uncle of a young lesbian in a long relationship with an 8 year old child to see these so called white christians several months after the election opening up gays/lesbians to discrimination and violence but it is a perfectly understandable when you understand that Virginia is the hotbed of Christian Hate Groups. When I was a child these same pastors and denominations were in the forefront of hatred and discrimination of African-Americans. Jerry Falwell openly endorsed the KKK and I dont imagine Pat Robertson was too far behind. They have just transferred their religious sickness to a different group of people to hate. They will burn in hell for it.

While home on leave for a month in 1973 between Asian and European tours of duty, I tagged along with some buddies of mine who went to a local public park (reputed to be where gays and/or druggies hung out) to score some weed if possible. Part of this group were two college backup basketball players, both white, both highly homophobic.

I learned later from my best friend, after our unsuccessful weed-scoring mission, and after everyone split up to go home, that these two tall and muscular college basketball players used to enjoy going to this reputed gay frequented park and beat up people. One incident, I was told, involved some long-haired hippy sitting on the hood of his car, stoned out of his mind, parked along the curb next to this park, who got beaten to a pulp.

I was appalled. I was serving in the U.S. military to PROTECT all U.S. citizens from bullies, or totalitarians, or back then, the Soviet Bloc, the Red Menace, only to be told that two thugs were beating up people for kicks, based on a rumor that certain people visited a certain park.

When I got discharged from the military in 1975, I returned home and was told that these two backup college basketball players had died in a horrific car accident. I thought upon hearing this news, “God works in mysterious ways.”

Which just makes me wonder what’s in store for this Cuccinelli guy, because one of my basic beliefs is that people reap what they’ve sown, and if one sows love and non-discrimination (like Jesus Christ taught), then this is what one reaps, while if someone sows hate and discrimination against anyone over anything then THAT is what someone will reap, which sounds to me like a recipe for hell for the sower of hate and discrimination, one way or another, inevitably…or they could sow the opposite and side with Jesus Christ, as he taught, as he demonstrated, as he lived.

There’s a whole different issue at stake here.
Concerning genitals, If they’ve seen them before – they won’t be embarrased, and if they haven’t – they won’t know what they are. Everyone’s got genitals, — So what if they’re seen!
The real issue is that the low level radiation emanating from these scanners pose a real and dangerous public health hazard. John Gofman, M.D., PhD. proved that low level x-rays not only cause cancer & other DNA disruptive diseases, but that the medical establishment has severely underestimated its dangers. Check out the following:
“Disproof of Any Safe Dose or Dose-Rate of Ionizing Radiation, with Respect to Induction of Cancer in Humans” – http://www.ratical.org/radiation/CNR/RIC/chp18F.html

If you must get x-rayed, either at an airport or for medical reasons, at least take Grapeseed extract at a dose of 4mg/lb bodyweight about 1/2 hour before you get any invasive radiological procedure.

  • bhantustani

Why is it that this is only wrong because people who adhere to puritanical religions don’t agree with it? I simply don’t want to be subject to ionizing radiation, especially when these machines have not been thoroughly safety tested. It’s yet another example of pushing through an unproven technology for the profit of greedy military contractors.

  • Tired of Lies

The American media colludes in letting the government abridge our rights, just as it did during the run-up to the war in Iraq and as the Patriot Act was rammed through basically unread by most of Congress.

American media refuses to report what the British media has reported: these machines would not have caught the underwear bomber:

I’m a private pilot, would any of you be interested in flying with me? Since these of course would be non-commercial flights, I can only allow you to pay for half of the cost of fuel. Also, since gold and silver bullion are not considered currency, I would need 1/4 ounce of gold for every 200 miles we travel as “ballast” to keep our weight and balance in spec. Strangely enough, 16 ounces of silver bullion performs the same “ballast”. They MUST be non-currency bullion, such as Englehard, Credit Suisse, krugerrand and other such forms of non-currency bullion. American eagles, or any coin with a cash value in any currency stamped upon it will not work.

You can keep your shoes on, bring a gun (with some common sense safety precautions.), and I would never search either you or your baggage. Weight limit is 500lbs for you and your baggage.

    Would anybody be interested?

    Malikk,

Are you aware that Ezekiel Emanual’s history, and the fact that he is an adviser, and specifically the statement that “An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia” was essentially what began the entire death-panels claim? Are you aware that the above statement was played on Hannity over and over again? Times like these make for strange bedfellows.

Times like these. Yes, and as much as I am not satisfied with everything in this bill, I too support it. Good riddance to the sex offender Massa, he should go join the Republicans who also hate health reform.

  • Did my Homework

    Something is happening here people.

You are all being played for fools by the Democratic party, and its many official propaganda outlets, rawstory included. They are smearing Massa, they are a bunch of dishonest jackals.
Massa strongly opposed funding the Bush wars in Obama’s first budget, as he is a real progressive voice who wants to deliver change. He was targeted by the Obama White House along with a few other rookie reps for their refusal to support Obama’s record high war budget.

Massa is a staunch advocate of the single payer option.
Massa just like Kucinich is for real health care reform, not smoke and mirrors.
Massa is refusing to go along with the charade being passed off as health care.
Massa has stated on the record that he would only vote for single payer, even if it meant being voted out of office by his own constituents.

Now reading the Massa coverage here, it is clear that the Democratic party wants everyone to believe that he is a right wing sexual deviant who hates health care reform. It is also clear that the rawstory editors want you to believe that too. No reference to his courageous anti war stance, and no reference to his strong advocacy for single payer or his willingness to support it. We just have the smears, the quasi anonymous unfounded sexual harassment accusations flying fast and loose.

This is how the Democratic party eats its own, this is how they deal with peaceniks and people who want real health care reform now. This is how the lies are delivered, and repeated by a flock of birds who repeat every lie. This is how propaganda works. Is it fooling you?

  • Prattvictory

The only person identified is Ron Hikel who apparently wasn’t the target of the inappropriate behavior. Rather than approach Massa directly he went to Steny Hoyer. Rather than Hoyer approaching Massa or Hikel approaching Massa they went directly to filing a complaint.

If this turns out to be a pattern of behavior that can be established, if other people come forward and say Massa created an adverse working environment due to his inappropriate actions then this allegation has merit.

Otherwise, he got drunk at a party and has a little of teh gay. It shouldn’t be the end of the world. This incident should not rise to the level of forcing someone out of office.

At this point his resignation does not seem called for, but I’ll wait to see what else comes up.

The on “Glenn Beck” today he admitted that he groped another subordinate.

There are numerous allegations against him for sexually inappropriate actions. So it is no smear. He admits to doing several of the things he’s been accused of, so get a clue and go back to watching Faux News. I’m fine with him being gay, not so much for him being a psycho liar, closet-case.

Massa is on the record as voting against the Obama war funding bill. And his stance on single payer is admirable. Taken together it would seem that he prefers to fund health care instead of more war.

Funny how Lieberman who spits all over Democrats every chance he gets and votes with Republicans for war with every chance he gets, never seems to find himself in trouble with the party bosses. But Massa the guy who wants to fund health care over wars, just because of a few unproven allegations is given the guillotine by the Democratic party bosses. Funny how that works.

while we are bullshiting about health care bill china is kicking ass.

China is in negotiations to build a high-speed rail network to India and Europe with trains that capable of running at over 200mph within the next ten years.
The network would eventually carry passengers from London to Beijing and then to Singapore. It would also run to India and Pakistan, according to Wang Mengshu, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a senior consultant on China’s domestic high-speed rail project.

to all you health care nut jobs i say GO FUCK YOUR SELFs because this what we should be doing here .

Passengers could board a train in London and step off in Beijing, 5,070 miles away as the crow flies, in just two days. They could go on to Singapore, 6,750 miles away, within three days.

The smear job is being covered the same way by the top Democratic party friendly sites. Hourly updates with tabloid style sensationalism and faux outrage.

Not one of them mentions his going to the wall on war funding, his refusal to buckle under pressure from the Obama White House and his vote against war. Not one of them mentions that he is a single payer zealot and he opposes the Obama health care sham because it is a sell out to industry.

This guy is being targeted and smeared, and ‘trusted’ media are in on it. Shameful.

Gay or straight, men just can’t seem to keep their hands to themselves.

  • H.P. Loathecraft

I don’t discount the possibility. His problem is keeping his story straight, though. He is making a mess of defending himself a la Blagoyavitch and it makes him appear less than credible.

  • http://twitter.com/graygoods Gray

Also, pls look at the confusing timeline: “The allegations surrounding the former lawmaker date back at least a year” and “Massa’s former deputy chief of staff Ron Hikel provided the information about the staffers’ allegations to the House ethics committee three weeks ago”?

Excuse me pls, but if a probably disgruntled fired staffer comes along with complaints about something that happened a year ago, isn’t it a bit, uh, unusual that the ethics committee makes such a brouhaha out of this? I mean, there’s the known crook Charlie Rangel who has been producing negative headlines for YEARS, and he only receives a slap on the wrist, but the full power of Congress is aimed at Massa? That smells funny.

I suspect those allegations against Massa are made up “on the fly”, that someone behind the scenes is digging up old mud and slinging it, hoping something will stick. That explains why Massa, who isn’t known as a total idiot, looks so foolish in defending against the “accusations”. Like that guy in the Kafka novel, he doesn’t really know what he’s accused of, and so his defense has to be totally ineffective. But the general point he raises, his struggle with Emanuel, sound totally convincing, judging from all those reports about Rahmbo’s typical behaviour.

So, I can only warn about jumping to conclusions now. Imho too much of what’s going on is hidden from the public, and the way this is developing is highly unusual and alarming. We simply can’t say now if that is just a coincidence, or actually the symptoms of a conspiracy to get rid of a Representative who is acting too independently for the mighty. Let’s press for more informations, instead of siding with the powerful against a single troublemaker! And let’s not forget that often it has turned out later that the troublemaker was right all along.

Pls consider it may be that he doesn’t really know what he’s accused of. He initially thought this was a lot of brouhaha about inappropriate behabiour at a party, when actually behind the scenes someone was working hard to produce new, more hurtful allegations by digging up old stuff and leaking it. So, Massa can only defend against yesterdays’ shit, while behind his back new mud is thrown. That would explain why his defense looks so ridiculously inadequate. Only a theory, of course, but if we assume that the guy isn’t a total idiot, that’s a reasonable explanation for his fumbling with the excuses. He could be deliberately left in the dark about the true nature of the accusations, while at the same time cherrypicked details are handed to the press, designed to make him look like a fool.

Judging from what we know about Rahmbo, that doesn’t sound too farfetched. And one way or the other, the very unusual and suspicious way this is played, like a concerted attack on a single lawmaker, not the standard operating procedure of the ethics committee, clearly shows that there is something going on behind the scenes! The majority party simply DOESN’T create such a brouhaha when one of their own is caught with his hands at the wrong place. This is unprecendented. Period.

  • http://twitter.com/graygoods Gray

Pls note that the Post has a very troubled history of using anonymous sources to base “scoops” on. They are used regularly for a deliberate leaking of informations that the government wants to be “reported” in the press. Simply ask youself, WHY is that information leaked, even though it also hurts the Dem party? Isn’t this highly unusual?

  • http://twitter.com/graygoods Gray

What if he isn’t gay at all, but a guy with a short fuse and a behavioural problem? Someone who has never learned he can’t fool around with his staffers in the same way as with his college buddies? That would explain his fumbles when defending himself. He doesn’t really know what the brouhaha is about. And the way informations are constantly leaked out of the ethics committee, deliberately, is designed to make him look bad without ever exposing the details of the “accusations”. This is unusual and suspicious, and looks like there is really someone trying to shoot Massa down, at all costs.

You’re looking awfully “fair and balanced” on this one, RS.

If I want to read hit piece propaganda targeting those who refuse to be bought I’ll go to Fox News. You should be better than this, RS — you should be dissecting and exposing the obvious smearing of this man, not helping to propagate it

  • BrooklynRider

Honestly, who was the “other man” that found it impossible to extricate himself from a “tickle fight”?

    C’mon. A fucking “tickle fight”?

I find it odd that Massa is pressured to resign and Rangel – corrupt as can be – is patted on the back and offered condolences and support.

We are finally seeing the liberal bloggers and news outlets get snapped into line by the Dem propaganda machine. It is really sad, but not surprising.

Wow. Finally a democrat fondling boys. For a while there I thought only republican gay bashers did that.

  • Anonymous

So you admit Obama is a socialist. AHA! (lol)

  • Chas

That makes you a gullible idiot. He has changed his story four times in less than a week, he has admitted to not only the wedding grope but “tickle fighting” with male staffers and even said on Beck that there are texts that will be damaging. I don’t know what your game is but you are obviously either stupid or being intellectually dishonest.

  • Prattvictory

I’d like to hear Rahm Emanuel respond to the allegation that he confronted Eric Massa in the Congressional gym. I think Massa poses a legitimate question to ask why he was even in the congressional gym. Aren’t there facilities in the Whitehouse?

Massa had a military career before entering congress. Shouldn’t there be something to corroborate the allegations in Massa’s history?

Unlike you I’m not willing to dismiss the guy over what even appears to be erratic behavior, it is troubling, but not conclusive.

Generally I would dismiss someone who calls someone a “gullible idiot, obviously either stupid or intellectually dishonest” as someone who isn’t intellectually capable of having a civil discourse. I think I have plenty of evidence to draw such a conclusion. Instead I will dismiss you as a “fucklng retard.”

I respect your thoughts and opinion Spike but hear me out. People are putting all Christians as one because of how the majority of them act out, especially with same sex couples and the gay community. My father is a minister and I was adopted and raised in a Christian home, my father still loves me yes, does he want to see me with a man? Not at all. Does he try to force me to be straight? Nope. Now, let’s take other Christians, the majority of them are on television (for example) bashing the gay community, making all sorts of false accusations, saying that we should never have any human rights etc. If the majority would stop living another person’s or communities life and start living their life we wouldn’t be so apt to put most Christians as one. We live our lives not bothering anyone not bashing anyone, not taking any rights away from the rest of humanity..they have been and are doing just that. Christians need to stop coming into my life telling me how to live it and what rights I do and do not have as a human being, if they can do that then I wouldn’t put most of them as one. I

Don't be an idiot. Not all Christian leaders are evil to the core. My step father is a Presbyterian pastor, and NOT ONCE has condemned me for being an athiest. This pile of human waste is a psychiatrist? The American Academy of Psychiatry removed homosexuality from its pathology list decades ago. The AMA will cancel the membership of any physician who shows prejudice against gays. Does this slime bag think those policies don't apply to him? Wait, he's a christianist, of course that's what he thinks.

So, we have a christofascist physician who co-founded a radical right-wing religious organization in the name of god or christ or whomever. He goes out of his way to have basic civil rights denied to gays and he hires a hustler?

If this is the sort of shit that's acceptable to religious organizations then fuck this sick man, fuck his religion, fuck his god and fuck his christ.

We need a constitutional amendment all right – we need to get religion OUT of politics. France, the most catholic country in the world, has total separation of church and state and they mean it and enforce it, so why can't we get it right?

Homosexuals have been around since the dawn of time and sexuality is all over the spectrum. The backward thinking that this is an abomination stems from a religious or cultural perspective. The problem in my point of view is this: religion as such is constituted so you have one group of people telling the rest of us how we ought to be living our lives thanks to what their (arguably) imaginary friend tells them. If this hadn’t been going on so long, people would see the fact that in the 21st century these jackasses have any voice at all for the absurd situation it is.

Your dad, I’m sure he’s a great guy. He accepts you, sort of. Yet, he doesn’t actually bother to think things through for himself to the point of realizing that the stance Christians take on homosexuality is a crock of shit. He’s not part of the solution, he’s part of the problem.

Most homophobes are that way because they fear that they themselves are gay, because they are. So convenient to have a church Amex card to buy drugs and hookers and pretend it never happened.

  • thejottedline

    Another Tea Bag moment

  • waterflaws

Hey, RawStory / John Byrne, why did you include this paragraph. It's unnecessary unless you want to highlight why you think “the homosexual lifestyle” is bad for children.

A commenter on a California Catholic daily, which reported the findings of Rekers' investigations into gay adoption, remarked, “The active principle in these children's stress is the fact that their welfare comes in dead last in the homosexual lifestyle – it is oriented toward grooming them for traumatic early sexualization and exploitation by adults.”

Crap like this is why I don't read RawStory regularly, anymore. It always seems like you're PROMOTING the “conservative” agenda by trying to appear like you're criticizing it. For RawStory readers, I suggest you keep this perspective in mind when reading their articles.

And fuck Rekers and Dobson and Haggard and…

And just imagine, this may have been the guy who signed the check for, what was it, $62,500 to David Duke for the Klan mailing list in order to GOTV against Kerry in 2004.

It's a fact, jack… They failed to declare it to the FEC, and were fined. Yes, a Magistrate sanctioned the FRC for not reporting it's expense for the David Duke KKK mailing list.

(I could be wrong… it was either 2004 or 2006, I think it was in the 2004 cycle. Anyone wanna dig it up? It's there.)

  • EnderW

What's the going price for a well-qualified demographically targeted mailing list? 50 cents a name? Last I heard, it was in that range.

The price was something like $62,500, IIRC. Do the math.

  • EnderW

And they all supported this guy and Dobson!!!!!!

Why is it that so many far right Christians are publicly against homosexuality and closeted at the same time? Can you say hypocrites? I wonder if Dobson was watching?

You liberals: what a bunch of nitpickers.

  • Jimbob Bobby.. bob.

My grandmother is very Catholic but loves my gay first cousin. She takes the ‘judge not’ stance on most things and is actually fairly left leaning in her politics. If Jesus was real (I don’t think so myself) I imagine that would be close to his thinking. Christians aren’t bad themselves as much as this majority who call themselves Christian, support senseless killing and judge others.

And as far as belief systems, I think we all have them and we’re all wrong. And I doubt that in ‘the grand scheme of things’ that even the most progressive opinion could be more than a minute blip further in the right direction than the most primitive and superstitious beliefs that humanity can muster. It’s just not worth it to judge people’s beliefs.

  • Sean

The majority of the “Christians” I know have read even less of the bible than I have. Or a simple philosophical discussion makes them question the beliefs that have been force feed to them for 20 years. It is pretty disgusting.

Obviously, you’ve never seen the friezes of Khajurao or read the Kama Sutra. Islam is not against sex within marriage. I highly recommend you read “The Secret Life of Syrian Lingerie” for a look at sexuality and Islam. Like Judaism, Islam states that a woman has the right to sexual satisfaction from her spouse. (Remember, Islam and Christianity sprang from Judaism, which is why they share many core religious/social beliefs.)

Also, tantric sex is something that came from Hinduism (see the Khajurao friezes. Mystics of every religious stripe have long experimented with sex as a means of attaining a higher consciousness. I don’t know if it’s uniformly successful, but the experimentation part can be fun.

“the majority of them are on television (for example) bashing the gay community, making all sorts of false accusations, saying that we should never have any human rights etc.”

That majority of them are on television? They say gays should *never* have *any* human rights? Come on, man. That’s simply not accurate.

The majority of Christians (so far) are not for gay marriage (and even that is changing in some quarters) but they certainly wouldn’t deny you the right to life or to vote or to the countless other rights that all Christians recognize. Can’t you see that painting all Christians as one simply pushes them into a less sympathetic position? Do you WANT 2 billion Christians to think exactly how you are painting them?

That just isn’t true. While *some* Hindus might subscribe to that notion, I can assure you that most do not. Surely you don’t think the population got to be 1 billion plus because the masses thought sex was sinful? If that’s the case, there’s some pretty major sinning going on there.

It ain't just the Catholics, baby! It's all around you. Christians are covert terrorists to truth. Who knows what evil lies in their hearts, standing on its haunches, ready to erupt when opportunities arise?

DON'T TRUST CHRISTIANS. When they approach to badger you to join their flock of darkness, FLEE. Christians are so anti-sex because sex is fun and they want everyone to wallow in misery all their guilty lives so they can dedicate themselves to the church thus get their reward after they die. Once they’re dead they can’t complain that they’ve been scammed their whole lives. The ultimate suckers.

  • felixthecatxxxx

I wonder about the kid he adopted and the foster kids. Geo, his porter, is slender and looks like a young teen. Rekers didn't choose the older-looking more muscular guys as his porter.

  • Kat

Something most people don't realize about Christianity is that:

    1. It actually promotes sex, provided it is within the correct restraints (marriage). Did you know there's a verse that forbids a wife (or husband) to withhold sex as a means of control? There's nothing in the Bible that says sex is evil, or bad. It's a glorious thing for a man and woman to be one!

    2. The way that most Christians treat homosexuality and homosexuals is wrong. Most Christians are so grossed out by homosexuality that they treat it as much worse than the other sins, when in reality all the other sins are just as bad. The greatest commandment in the Bible is to love, and because of this we should love the sinner, and hate the sin. I myself struggle with same sex attraction, but being closer to God helps me deny my own selfish lusts so that I can do what is right in His eyes. Is it hard? Yes. Is it worth it? Infinitely so!

  • bigdawg1

No surpirse here! The ones how harang the most about gays are the one's who hate themselves for being gay.

    WWJR? (Who Would Jesus Rent?)

  • habu99

Remember, all of this lying and subterfuge (and apparent self-loathing) are due to a “lifestyle choice”, according to the wingnuttery. Rekers is choosing to be a hypocritical asshole, choosing to vacation with a call boy whose escort profile doesn't mention personal assistant or baggage handler but instead mentions the size of his genitals. This is all a “choice” by any measurement of the intolerant, presumably influenced by Satan, aliens, evil spirits, or Hollywood.

Because, if the wingnuts ever admitted to themselves that people are born gay (science backs this up of course), they couldn't really hate an entire segment of our society outright, and we all know how right-wingers love to hate anybody who's not exactly like them. So they'll keep on thinking that people like Rekers are choosing to relapse and get caught out of some kinky perversion instead of the fact that they really can't help themselves. Because all gay people “choose” to be scorned, ostracized, and physically assaulted (sometimes killed) by self-righteous rednecks out of that same kinky perversion.

    Gimme a break.

The “ex-gay” movement is nothing but a right wing smokescreen to showcase some very very unhappy and conflicted people who in private still long for the touch of somebody of their own gender no matter what they may say under the spotlight or on camera.

  • Chelsea

With their creative euphemisms for sex, people from South Carolina add a richness to the English language. First, with Gov. George Rekers was just doing research on the subject of properly rearing young boys, and their trip to Rome is confirmation of this. He is writing a new thesis on Greek noses and Roman hands. All of you sick minded non believers out there should be ashamed of yourselves for doubting this deeply religious man motivations. I would gladly trade one of my young altar boys with Mr. Rekers for his swimmer's build escort on his next trip (just to avoid any accusations of wrong doing!).

After being human, being either male or female is the most basic part of who you are. From Biblical view, the marriage relationship is descriptive of our relationship with God. Like Eve taken from Adam’s rib, we were made from a part of God himself, from close to his heart. Adam knew that he was alone, and was fully satisfied when Eve was presented to him. Like God’s commitment to each of us, a man should be fully committed for life to loving and caring for his wife. And the wife should keep herself only for him. He initiates, she responds. He (with 150% more muscle mass) protects and provides for her, she lives to create a fulfilling life for both of them that pleases their uniqueness. God took one thing and made it into two parts that could relate and converse. What one lacks the other provides. Each person ideally should be fully trustworthy, and fully committed.
Sex outside of marriage serves to confuse the physical body, which should rightly imprint to one partner for complete call and response compatibility. Sex outside of marriage commitment allows for negative comparisons of performance, and jealousy, and fractures relationships with not just the partners, but with others in their community, like ripples on a pond. It causes loss of trust. It creates regret for time and passion wasted on people who really don’t care about you. Sex as a disconnected physical act is not satisfying. It is mechanical. It opens the door to physical injury, disease, and as riskier behavior is needed for sexual arousal that is disconnected from actual spiritual love for the partner, it can put an individual in danger of their life. (had a friend die from the choking game). Homosexual sex even denies the simple pairing of penis and vagina!
Sex makes babies. A baby: the ultimate act of creation! A living being, not some bronze sculpture, or a piece of architecture, however grand! Sex should make wanted babies. Not what we’ve had here for decades now: Children treated as mistakes and burdens, and inconveniences, and problems, and bastards. Children born to adults who engage the majority of their lives in self-stimulating activities, rather than in selfless giving to others. These children grow up to resent everyone around them, rightfully, because they never got the consideration, attention, and honor that they deserve. They come from fornicators, and take the next step furthur into rebellion against goodness, homosexuality, which is a full turning from what was designed and intended. It was intended that men and women be considered precious and rare and unique and highly valued. The slippery slope from the ideal is an angry, rebellious, isolated, depressed, diseased, drag queen. What reasonable person would wish that life on anyone?

Whose fault is it? For our generation, it is the “great generation.” Men and women who came home from war, and neglected their children to work outside the home, and make money and power instead of families. Who took Biblical teaching out of everyday life, and exchanged it for missing links, and random chance. Men and women who shredded their marriages for “key parties” and swinging, and the sexual revolution. Men and women who gave up on reconciliation, and grew apart from their spouses, whether with a big ugly fight, or a new hobby, and left their children in loveless homes, with no healthy adult role modeling of love and forgiveness and hope. People who “legalized” baby-killing for convenience.
The Old Testament closes with God desiring that the hearts of fathers would turn back to their sons, and sons to their fathers. God never wants such pain.

Making laws that demand that society endorse sickness don’t make sense to a Christian. Even it that SINNER saved by God’s forgiveness still suffers under the same effects of degradation and abuse as everyone else.

Sorry to break this to you, but Christians have broken hearts too. Christians have fucked up lives too. But the hallmark of a Christian is being willing to admit it. Not put on parades to deny it.

What would you like Sarah Palin to do with Bristol? Would you think good parenting and responsible child care involved kicking her out of the house and putting her on welfare for the rest of us to support? How about public humiliation, would that help Bristol or her baby to recover from a fall of this magnitude? Should she be attacked by papparazzi? What will make this young lady’s mistake acceptable to you? SP is modeling responsible loving parenting for a kid who made a poor judgement call, and you concentrate on “hypocrite” because you make the same sorts of mistakes, too. How about a little forgiveness? Bristol’s a real person, who will have to carry this regret her whole life. How about celebrating a family that sticks together no matter what?

No, the bible doesn’t say sex is sinful. It says sex with anyone but your spouse is sinful. The Song of Solomon is sex poetry. Hot married-sex poetry. Have any of you read a Bible, or do you just take a priest’s word for it? Oh, yeah, that makes sense! My eternal soul hangs on what the priest says, instead of what the bible actually says! Yeah, trust the priest. THAT makes sense!

I’d add that Christians in the media are not usually working for God. They’re usually working to keep their ego-stroking TV show on the network. And all the really good people who go to church every Sunday, and tithe to give to charity, and work in community services to help their neighbors—they get no real news exposure. They get lumped in with the bad.

The news media is always looking for a “good guy” and a “bad guy”. Never the truth. Quiet peace-loving people with a different viewpoint not represented by the strawman arguments presented in the press are too difficult to interview I guess.

Each individual case should be dealt with individually. Laws tend to tromp on the individual, because a generalization doesn’t always fit ones’ situation.

I’m not an expert on either, but I’ve read that both yoga and tantric beliefs are originally from Hindu sources in India. While it’s true that there is a Buddhist form on tantra based in Tibet, AFAIK it is derived from the earlier Hindu forms.
And what’s this about “Judaism not so much”? Some of the ultra-orthadox forms of Judaism forbid a Rabbi from ever touching a woman other than his wife (ever!) – and another one allows sexual contact between husband and wife only with a bedsheet kept in-between them, with a hole cut in the sheet, and just enough to allow penetration! – and this is only for having children, not pleasure!

My church had to go through a time-consuming process to remove a man who was found to be fondling children from two families. The process was handled beautifully, and the guilty party was forced into counseling. The affected children were never identified, and our church paid for their subsequent counseling as well, even though our church was not to blame for the contact. Our church HANDLED IT. Our leadership eventually had to remove the pastor as well, because it was found out, 3 yrs later, that he had been alerted by a “white trash” attendee to the man’s proclivities, but had said nothing to the rest of our leadership. For that pastor’s contempt for the witness, he was removed. All our classrooms were given doors with windows, and large windows into the hallways, and all our teachers now go through a police background check. But you won’t hear that on any local news. You’ll get a story borrowed from a story on AP. If you want to be alone with children in our church, you have to prove yourself trustworthy. Some things should not be “taken on faith”.
We would never hire a pastor who would gay-bash. However, saying that homosexuality is unfulfilling and unsatisfying is not gay-bashing. It’s the truth. Saying that the Bible condemns the marring and confusing of our sexual identity is wrong is not hate-speech.
We love the individual, and pray that, as we in our own personal failings pray for a change in our own hearts and behaviors, the Spirit of God will change the hearts of our friends, gay or straight, to more and more chose healthy and positive lives of service to the good of others. We want to grow in goodness. We want to get better, not wallow in self-pity.

  • Anonymous

I have made the decision to attend a church that is congregationally governed. That means that any hiring of paid staff deeply involves the regular membership. That means that all our money/accounts/expenditures/budgeting is reviewed every quarter by our membership. That means every new thing we spend money on is reviewed by a committee of our membership, and presented to our quarterly business meetings if the committee finds initial merit (so as not to waste everyone’s time).

Do not think that you have to attend a church you can’t trust! The Bible doesn’t endorse bad leadership! Far from it! The Bible says that leadership, if accused in a respectful and responsible way (2 or more witnesses to a failure), must either explain or remove themselves from their position.

NO ONE IS SLAVE TO A CHURCH. It’s a VOLUNTEER organization!! Be a slave to Christ, a slave to the written word of God, who alone can lead you perfectly. Let God lead you, not other people! Then go and find people who have a like understanding. DON’T SUPPORT CHURCHES THAT ENABLE BAD LEADERS OR WHO HOLD ON TO INADEQUATE ACCOUNTABILITY POLICIES! If you want to be in a good church, find a church that can love you enough to tell you when you’re wrong! Find a church that gently and lovingly handles conflict! Don’t stay in a bad group of people! Find a good group, that though it may have its problems, does eventually deal with them.

    People fail. Not God.

    Dear DavidR,
You hear “homosexuality is an abomination” and you hear condemnation. But you don’t study scripture, so you don’t understand. You take a sound bite out of context, and jump to a over-simplified conclusion. God’s perfect standards of behavior in Old Testament scripture are true and right. But God knew that having a bunch of rules doesn’t save us after the fact that we’ve broken them. Rules are important for creating an orderly, healthy, and cooperative association of large numbers of people. But at some point, we all break the rules. What then? In Islam, you get your head cut off, or buried to your waist and publically stoned. In a Judeo-Christian society, depending on how seriously and/or financially you may have injured somone else, you may pay a fine or serve jail time. That deals with human-human relationship. In terms of dealing with human-to-God relationship, the Bible says in First John chapter 1, “if we confess our sins, He (God) is faithful (you can depend on him) and just (Jesus stepped in and took your spiritual punishment) to FORGIVE us our sins, and cleanse us from all wrongness.”

God hates sin, not the one doing it. If you, David, were to start banging on your thumb with a hammer, I mean really whaling on your thumb, and God says “Don’t hammer you thumb,” is he saying that because he hates you? NO! He’s saying that because he loves you and he wants you to be good to yourself. He doesn’t want you to bleed out, or get gangrene! So, if we are to be like God, we should not thrill to see someone doing something God so clearly says is wrong. God’s not capricious. He’s not denying you something that’s good for you! Ice cream is great, but not if you eat ice cream made of industrial waste! Ice cream is great, but not if you eat an oil-drum-full of it at one sitting! That’ll kill you!

The average Christian genuinely cares for gays. But they can’t support it as a lifestyle in good conscience. So why can’t people just simply peacefully disagree?

  • Anonymous

WTF… where in my post do you see the tag….”gay”… I never said republicans were gay. Now… you maybe…yeah…you are probably gay.. What I suggested was.. that power corrupts, and that people in positions of power eventually get to the point where they think that can do whatever they want and everybody will believe whatever bs story they tell. That’s true of politicians, that’s true of celebrities, that’s true of law enforcement, its true of “self-made” prophets that live in million dollar homes or any other organization where there is an artificial sense of empowerment by nothing other than the position someone holds. The longer they stay the more they manipulate the rules to create more power, the more power they achieve the more bs they try to get away with. The last 8 years of the “Botch” administration is proof of that.Don’t vote for a democrat, don’t vote for a republican, don’t vote for any incumbent. Flush the toilets in washington and all of these problems will be dramatically reduced. For just once… vote for the United States.

Your comment proves what homosexuals always deny or refuse to talk about: the abusive or neglectful atmosphere that produced them. Why would thinking people want to make laws that reinforce or validate the crappy circumstances that produced unhappy gay people?

You can't say that his behavior will have a toll on his kids, unless you are willing to say that his behavior is wrong. If being gay is so right, then why would it traumatize his kids? If homosexuality is so healthy, and equal, then what's the problem? This failure on Reker's part should be, to you, like he bought some black licorice instead of red licorice.

Why do we not vilify fornication as much as homosexuality? THAT is a question. Sex outside of a committed lifetime relationship has all sorts of negative results. I think gays get the brunt of the persecution because they usually won't go all butch on you and sock you in the face. They don't stand up well to bullies.

But all that aside, homosexuality is a biological error. It isn't how our species procreates. As a species, we should want to continue to exist. Evolution would say that it should stop because it isn't productive. The Bible says it shouldn't be practiced because it hurts the individual, not just in body, but in spirit. Imagine the internal conflict of rejecting your own body?

Gays in the militant leadership will never allow that homosexuality is genetic, because folks will make sure they order their genetically perfect babies without THAT gene.

Gays who believe they were born that way are incorrect. A child's accepted sexual role model is established before the age of 3. If a child grows up in a home where the same sex parent is reprehensible or actively hateful, the child will reject that model, and accept the opposite sex parent as their model. This all happens before the child has words to describe their choice, or even understands that a choice was made. It isn't the child's fault. It's the damned screwed up parents, or the “uncle” that sexually molested the kid in private.

It is very few gays that want to face the past that put them where they are. And what you grew up with is also what YOU think is NORMAL. Normal, and healthy, are two different things.

I found “Hedwig And The Angry Inch” to be incredibly honest. What decent person's heart wouldn't cry for the mess Hedwig went through. But let's not stay there. Let's heal.

    Here's where I think they're coming from:

Homosexuality has to be eradicated from the planet so that christianists with weak faith won't be tempted. For some, the knowledge that there's a homosexual out there can be the ruin of many a good christofascist.

Dissociate himself from the anti-gay movement?

    Dear Lord Jesus
I have but one thing to ask:
Please deliver us from your followers.

That mustache should of been a tip off.

Another republican who turns out to be a teabagger…

Bible also says that rape victims should be killed. Sure you want to hang your eternal soul on a book that says you’re responsible for things you had no control over?

  • randalovium

    Good point.

Contrast the innocence of the desire with the sinister hypocrisy of the denier.

However, the total effect of this man is to increase human misery exponentially. No doubt he supports the murderous legislation that the likes of Senator Imhofe are piloting in Uganda with the expectation of importing it here.

He and all his kind have to be brought down and completely removed from public view.

  • Satan

He looks quite a bit like the guy who pushes Jeevus on the street corner near my work.

The scientific evidence available to us does say that people ARE born that way.

If one twin is gay, the odds are the other twin is gay too even if raised apart.
The more sons a woman has, the higher the chances are the younger sons will be gay.

These are just two examples of how genetics and pre-natal development influences sexuality. A person’s orientation is not under their control and cannot be changed. Trying to “fix” gays or convincing them they are “defective” will only make things worse. You say “let’s heal” then back your words up and start accepting people who who and what they are.

I see no reason why a gay father can’t love his kids as much as a straight father. It’s the hyprocracy and religion that winds up doing the damage.

  • GameofLife

How many trips doesn't he take in a month?

    typical repug hypocrisy.

  • GameofLife

    Dobson didn't know. Yeah right.

You get the connection? Lucien…Lucifer. The devil made him do it. So sorry, repressed sexuality can get you into such funny circumstances.

Another “Christian” brought down by his own double standards and bigotry. I LOVE it when the high and mighty take it up the glory hole!!!!!

  • kingbad

Is it wrong that I've lost my capacity for outrage at this type of thing? This blatantly hypocritical, self-destructive activity is becoming so prevalent in the “moral crusader” types that the shrink associations need to consider whether it's some sort of syndrome. Maybe Rick Warren can get disability or something…

ya know Denny…our current political system has been taken over by megalomanicle (sp?)sociopaths, and by being in charge for so long, they have made it nearly impossible to remove them from power..divide an conquer…both parties are doing it to us…just like his asshole, he oppresses gay people adamantly by day, and when night rolls around. he has some young rental guys 8″ dick down his throat…and then he has the fukin nerve to tell gay people who really love each other that their sexuality they are doing is wrong…they pass a laws aimed directly at people of Latin descent as the very same people are picking their food, maintaining their yards, and cleaning their houses…i am so fed up with these people..but just think how much worse it would be without the internet…

  • traci

lol are you really shocked??? Typical hypocrits….

  • Squirrely

'Some people have said' when Dobson heard about this, his response was “The Long Stroke? That was MY move !!!” followed by some muttering about scratching his eyes out. Meeeooowwww.

  • Squirrely

And he hates the color BLUE… especially for his ball sack.

You know what they say … “Different long strokes for different folks” or words to that effect.

Rekers tormented young children in the 70s for playing with the wrong toys. He believes in corporal punishment to turn children straight. He is a disciple of the infamous Dr. Lovaas, who pioneered the use of aversives, ie torture, to cure autistic children, http://www.goodasyou.org/good_as_you/2010/05/dr…

As an out gay minister (retired) whose church loves him, I just sit here and laugh uproariously when I read about these anti-gay therapist hypocrites who've been caught with “more” than their pants down!!! It seems these nutjobs are coming out of the woodwork these days!!! They are beyond any possible help when they can't even be truthful to themselves. Yiyiyiyiyi!!!

This man had to go some, to find this guy. This ad was not stumbled upon. You had to go to some trouble to reach this rent boy. There was no mistake. And seeing him schlep his own luggage, put a lie to his bad back. And when I ask you, does a luggage porter share a suite with twin beds with his employer?

These liars. These born again christians (small c), that have the answers for everyone else. That know what a god wants, that have a pipeline to god, just make me want to either throw up or laugh. I do both. And his friend Dobson, the one that suggested that a man shower with his son, so his son could see what a man was. Pretty shallow unless a man is only judged by his penis. Dobson, the man who had a cure for disobedient children. The kind of vulcan nerve pinch behind the neck. He swears it paralyzes the most obstreperous child. Think I am lying, get his book.

These two men have damaged so many people. Born again? If this is the end result of being born again, I wonder what they were like the first time around. They should have left well enough alone.

Give me an honest prostitute any day. And save me from the all knowing hypocrisy of the right to life, lovers of christianity and the family values. If anyone continues to listen and pay homage and money to these monsters of manipulation, they deserve to be sheep being sheared. And being raised Baptist can cure you of religion. I know from whence I speak.

  • carol h.

He ain't heavy, he's my rent boy!!

  • Juan Valdez

This isn't news. He's just a typical republikker. They are known to be liars, hypocrites, the personification of Evil. You want a story? Check Miami Fl's attempt to demonize some old guy from Guatemala who allegedly killed a couple of people some decades ago, IN HIS OWN COUNTRY. Yes, the same Miami Fl that loves, welcomes such terrorist murderers as Orlando Bosche and Posada Carilles. These fugitives from justice walk the streets freely, protected by the Batista henchmen who run that town….

This man is pathetic and revolting. Rest assured, there are LOTS more like him among the ranks of the homophobes.

This makes me feel small and petty, but I am really enjoying all the flimsy excuses he's giving and all the well-deserved public humiliation. This is better than the Larry Craig scandal!!
