I am forced through my premiums and taxes to pay for people who visit emergency rooms and can’t afford to pay. That force was exerted by Reagan. You conservatives have short memories. Everyone should be forced to have insurance to prevent people from being burdened with other people’s medical bills. If you want to live in a civilized society then there is a bit you need to contribute. Otherwise we live in chaos.

Since any reasoned person knows that Obama is not a pyschopathic killer that wishes to destroy the planet, let's look at the law. One law that applies is the National Environmental Policy Act, whic stipulates that any federal undertaking has to consider the effects of that undertaking on things such as clean water, clean air, endangered specis and historic properties. This is a review process that can go two ways. If the federal agency involved (NOAA) decides that drilling is a normal activity free of potential effects, it will issue a Categorical Exclusion and move forwward with the drilling. IT will often conduct and EA (Environmental Assessment to determine any potential effect. If there is one, then they are obligated by the law to conduct an EIS (Environmental Impact Statement). I can tell you from experience that conducting an EIS takes at least one year and usually two to three. What I see happening here is that these drilling permits were issued using the Categorical Exclusion, which is totally inappropriate in these cases, to get permits quickly and without “pesky government oversight.” You can blame Obama for nor being prescient if you like, but in my opinion these permits had been issued well before he took office.

By the time Amerikan Idolatry and F***ing With the Stars are over, Amerikans are too drunk to care.

In one incident reported by the Inspector General, agency employees got so drunk at a Shell sponsored golf event that they could not drive home and had to sleep in hotel rooms paid for by Shell.

Pervasive intercourse also characterized their financial relations. Industry lobbyists underwrote lavish parties and showered agency employees with illegal gifts, and lucrative personal contracts and treated them to regular golf, ski, and paintball outings, trips to rock concerts and professional sports events. This is a sensitive process that, according to government experts, can trigger catastrophic blowouts if not performed attentively. According to the Minerals Management Service, 18 of 39 blowouts in the Gulf of Mexico since 1996 were attributed to poor workmanship injecting cement around the metal pipe. Halliburton is currently under investigation by the Australian government for a massive blowout in the Timor Sea in 2005 caused by its faulty application of concrete casing.
The real culprit in this villainy is a negligent industry, the festering ethics of the Bush Administration and poor oversight by an agency corrupted by eight years of grotesque subservience to Big Oil.

I would bet my computer that BP is betting the farm that the cause of explosion was due to Haliburton's improper or faulty cementing causing the gas to pressurize.

Following that, the fact that the BOP didn't work had to be a mechanical malfunction of the BOP, for which Transocean has sole responsibility.

We are heading into a deflationary cycle. Oil, Gas, Milk, and even gold can be expected to start going down in price soon (if they haven’t already). The government is printing more money to try and fix the problem (of prices going down).

Oil prices are primarily tied to oil futures as traded on the open market. Oil futures respond much more to forecast oil demand than to oil supply or even forecast supply. For the time being, there is an abundance of oil and the oil exporting countries have way more supply than is needed. That's the fallacy in “drill-baby-drill.” Demand for gasoline will rise for the forseeable future, but prices at the pump drop as a result of the forecasted increase demand for gasoline. A slow, steady increase will not raise prices but a rapid rise in the rate of that increase will raise prices. What we have done by getting more serious in fuel efficiency is reduce the rate of increase – thereby causing a reduction in the rate of forecasted demand, and prices drop. Yes, the irony is that by doing the right thing – reducing future demand – we lower the price which can cause people to then drive more, and erase the future progress. Discipline, and a change to different fuels – natural gas, wind, solar, clean coal – is the key to cheaper gasoline, less air pollution and less drilling in our coastal waters.

Tired of the Blame it on Bush crowd… This stuff is happening under PBHOs watch. His responses are shaping what happens. His policies are driving the departments. BP and PBHO own this together. Also, on the 14th he promises to put a stop to the run-away approvals; but, as of the 24th there still happening. The rational for giving the wavers sounds more like liberal CYA than anything else. This suggests that the new president's liberal style and direction have made their way down to whomever is in charge of these wavers. They were not even intended to be used for this sort of thing, and there is no good reason to pass most of them. Protecting existing drill sites???? The new projects haven't even started yet!!!!

Oil prices are going down because we are going through an economic deflation. Sooner or later most commodities will go down, followed by the stock market. To prevent that, the government is printing more money. This will make prices go back up. The problem is, they won't stop going up. The money will loose it's value. Even with the provisions in the new financial law to allow people to get out from under their “oppressive” variable rate mortgages, they can only raise rates so far before the economy caves back in. There will then be less money and it will mean less to have it. It won't just happen to us though, the whole world seems to headed down this same path, just at different rates. The only thing standing between us and a prolonged stagflation is the next election cycle. If Pelosi, Frank, Dod and Reid are no longer running things in congress, funding for all the new laws they passed can be blocked. Without the funding they can't be fully implemented. Without implementation, of the Health Care and Finance laws, we actually have a chance to stall the downward slide until PBHO can be replaced, in 2 years. After that, all the damage can be reversed. Programs will need to be cut. People won't like it. The budget will need to get balanced and stay balanced, even if wars are still going on. The money the military needs will just have to come from entitlement programs, instead of tax payers. Taxes will need to be cut in order to allow the economy to recover. Revenues to the federal government won't go up if they raise taxes anymore; as, taxes are already over the tipping point. One would think the economic lessons (what not to do) of Wilson, Hover, FDR, and Carter would have been learned by now; but, it seems not.

Saying all companies are evil is like saying all politicians are honest. It doesn't make sense.

Better to say, companies that get what they want by bribing politicians are behaving badly. Not all companies do that.

And what about elected officials who spend more time claiming to have done something, promising to do something and continually blaming others for what things they have responsibility than actually doing whats needed to fix the problems at hand.

Or the ones that, see emergencies as opportunities to get people to give away their rights.

Or the ones that commit graft, and don't even try to hide it.

O wait, we have one of those in office right now (well actually more than one – if you include congress, the courts, Fanny, Freddy, and the Fed). Look up CCX. Look at who started it, who funded it, who supplied the patients it uses, and who the top investors in it are. Then look at Cap & Trade, and new versions of it under new names being brought up in the House and Senate. Graft is an understatement.

You can dream. If you think whats coming is going back to the gold standard, then dreaming is all it is. Their is an attempt going on to collapse the worlds economic systems. This will cause problems for everybody. The massive bailouts, inflation, deflation, stagflation, IMF telling countries what to do, communists dictating terms. None of that will work as planed. People are not sheep. Attempting the herd them as if they were, always fails. It typically results in large numbers of deaths at the hands of those who claimed they knew what was best for everyone else. Just look at, Marx, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, PolPot, Hussein, Makuza, or Ahmadinejad and his proxy organization Hamas.
