Haliburton may have had prior knowledge. But either way this slimy company with it's slimy past will make a killing. There was a bad oil spill off Australia. Haliburton was the company that poured the cement there too. Also a year before that another spill and Haliburton was the firm that poured the cement on that also. It slips my mind where that other spill was. Haliburton's record of financial shenanigans as well as sloppy work often with dangerous consequences is all on public record. What continues to amaze me is why we keep allowing this firm which is the Blackwater of construction, to gain contracts. Or at the very least to forbid them access to any company working in or near our country. They are now centered in Dubai. We have no recourse in getting at them if they screw us. This is why they moved there. No way to extradite.

this is some of the worst “reporting” I've ever seen.

1) halliburton doesn't build oil rigs. most rigs I've been on are either built in singapore or south korea.
2) “cement casing” isn't “built.” casing is steel pipe that's used to keep the wellbore from collapsing. it needs to be cemented because the OD (outer diameter) of casing is less than the OD of the wellbore.
3) “focuses on oil spill prevention and blowout response,” != cleans up oil spills.
4) halliburton does not provide the casing. halliburton provides the cementing service.
5) so a halliburton engineer will notify the well owner that their well design is terrible, yet at the same time halliburton plans on profiting from the disaster? I can see that halliburton was planning on profiting from the disaster if they never notified BP.

Halliburton engineered this oil spill? How do you use the statement that they told the owners (BP) that the engineering of the cement well wall was “against best practices?” The snake eating it's own tail doesn't apply here. Though neither does the parable of the broken window. Unless of course BP(shopkeeper) was somehow related to Haliburton (the bad son).

So I guess everyone complaining about Haliburton making a buck(ok lots of bucks) are coming down here to Volunteer to help? Funny, whenever hurricanes hit down here (pick one) there bus loads of “help” that pours in from out of state. They all say “we are here to help.” Then I say “Oh, you volunteered to come down here?” “Well, no but we still care.”

I guarentee that the BP operators are to blame here. Contractors(especially newly hired contractors) are usally extra dilligent in their reporting. Some facilities are quite strict when it comes to safety precautions and regulations. Well, let me rephrase that, there are units inside every plant that look at safety and reporting as serious and are meticulous in ther monitoring and reporting. So if your a new contractor, you don't know who your dealing with.

Whenever I trained someone to go out and monitor a route in a spefic unit for leaks (basic maintance at every mainland facility) I always, Always told them to watch out for other people that you work with or around. I honestly cannot remember an accident that was simply a “mechnical” failure. When these things are audited, it always shows somebody fudged numbers somewhere because they where inept, lazy or just improperly trained employees.

I was born and raised in Pasadena TX. If anyone doesn't know, Stinkadena has a strip of about 15 miles long that is Chemical Plants next to Refineries next to Chemical Plants and so on… Oh yeah, Texas City is about 45 minutes away and Baytown is 15 minutes from here. I have worked at almost all of these plants since the mid 90's. I have certificates coming out of my arse with a plethra of skills that are directly related to various Environmental aspects of the industry (Leak Detection & Repair, Hazardous Materials Handeling & Spill Cleanup etc…). A company call Furmanite used to fly me all around the country (Ca, Al, NY, Ok, IL to name a few) I've also been out to several Oil Rigs.

In-land plants are ALWAYS more safe. Across the board.

Even Exxon in Baytown in which you can find valves so old that they still have swastika on them. No Really. Even Dow (Union Carbide) and Amoco in Texas City are better than Rigs. All these places have what they call “grandfather clauses.” Meaning that are older that 75 years or something like that, so they don't fall under the same permits as the newer plants. Even these plants are more safe than rigs.

So ask anyone around southeast Houston if we should get rid of these plants and see what response you get. Because this recession that everyone else is talking about, I haven't seen a change here. None.

I'm saying it's a give and take. The smell that used to make this place know as stinkadena is gone (most of the time) because of new regulations.

If there is any ‘conspiracy’ as to the timing of Halliburton’s acquisition of Boots and Coots, it is that ‘they’ were ‘aware’ that a large spill would be a boom for Boots and Coots PREVENTION (not clean up) business as a result of heightened regulation and oversight.

Boots and Coots sought to alter is business strategy from cemetery (call us when something bad happens), to provider of preventative equipment and training to the industry in 2008. They made two strategic purchases in 2006 and 2007 to be able to offer these additional services. Certainly knowing that in 2010 Halliburton would offer to buy them out as a result of issues at the Macando well site. Additionally, more than half of Boots and Coots revenues are from the prevention side of the business. This work is primarily on older wells.

It sounds like disinformation that has been put out in order to shift people's attention away from BP. I think you are more likely to find a systematic failure of policies and standards throughout this particular facility.
