Kucinich, Ron Paul: Get US troops out of Pakistan

Two US lawmakers — a Republican and a Democrat — proposed a bill this week demanding the withdrawal of all US troops in Pakistan, where they are conducting covert operations against militants.

“We have known that US forces have been operating in secret inside the territories of Pakistan without congressional approval,” Democratic Representative Dennis Kucinich said Friday, pointing to reports the United States was stepping up its presence there.

He said the House of Representatives was expected to take up the resolution next week. The measure was introduced late Thursday.

Kucinich said the covert operations were a “violation of the 1973 War Powers Resolution introduced after the Vietnam War that only allows the president to send US armed forces into military operations abroad if Congress approves the decision or if the United States is under a serious threat or attack.”

“It is our constitutional responsibility as members of Congress to act,” Kucinich added.

Washington is working to deepen engagement with the nuclear power across the border from war-wracked Afghanistan and overcome rife anti-Americanism after years of perceived neglect of bilateral relations.

Joining Kucinich on the bill was Ron Paul, a Texas Republican who espoused libertarian views during his failed 2008 bid for the presidency.

Paul said the US military has “significantly increased” its operations in Pakistan, without providing figures.

He also noted the increased use of unmanned drone attacks in Pakistan since President Barack Obama came to office a year and a half ago.

“This increasing US military activity in Pakistan has little to do with protecting the United States and in fact is creating more enemies than it is defeating,” Paul said.

“The administration, like its predecessor, is misusing language in the original post-9/11 resolution to prosecute a wider regional war and Congress is sitting quietly on the sidelines. This must stop.”

The Pentagon says only a small number of US soldiers operate in Pakistan, mostly Special Forces tasked with training Pakistani troops along the Afghan border. Those US forces are not officially engaged in combat operations.

Kucinich previously tabled a resolution demanding that all US troops withdraw from Afghanistan, but it was rejected in March.

Washington has branded the rugged tribal area along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border a global headquarters for Al-Qaeda and other militants, who use it as a base to launch attacks on US-led forces in Afghanistan.

But the presence of US troops is a sensitive issue in Pakistan due to prevailing anti-American sentiment in the country, as well as conspiracy theories about US military operations and a perception that they threaten Pakistani sovereignty.

Only TWO in CONgress, who's been on the RIGHT side of History. PERIOD.

  • rawstorysuspect

They're teaming up! Could this be the start of a cross-party presidential run?!? I for one HOPE SO!

  • Democratic_Socialist

I hope so too BUT it was mentioned in 2008 and nothing ever came of it. I, personally, believe that, given what is going on right now, that it WOULD be a winning ticket! I would want it to be Kucinich/Paul instead of the other way around because D.K. is MUCH more Progressive.

  • rawstorysuspect

Yeah, Kucinich on top is the way to go, that way people would be less worried about RP being able to do something crazy without approval from someone not crazy, lol. (Not that I would be worried about something like that myself, but a lot of people seem to think the guy is off his rocker.)

  • SoldierFire

A Kucinich-Paul tag-team? Badass! I'd like the bill to go through; I doubt it will, but the fact that they're working together is just awesome.

  • progdeprog

Yeah, Ron Pauls crazy, like Christopher Columbus was crazy to set out to find the Americas or Albert Einsteins crazy theories, Nicola Tesla, etc.
Ron Pauls the only one of the two that can speak intelligently about Economics and Banking and how to get the US back to functionality again.
But at this point either way would be a heck of lot better than the last several years, I guess since Kennedy. Just get us out of these stupid wars and put troops on the border.

yeah the free market trickle down private profits/public loses corporate welfare voodoo

“Capitalism is the extraordinary belief that the nastiest of men for the nastiest of motives will somehow work for the benefit of all.” John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946)

  • rawstorysuspect

I don't think free market belongs in that sentence…

It’s important to remember that Ron Paul voted for the initial Afghanistan invasion – just in case you hear some neo-conservative trying to imply that Ron Paul is a pacifist or something. What he opposes is what this has all become, a project in nation building.

How do you liberals feel about the fact that more so called “Tea Party” people are active in opposing the wars than any liberals I know? Funny and sad.

I saw this story first on the Daily Paul. (dailypaul.com)

  • Phil E. Drifter

That's why we're supposed to harass our reps, but people are lazy, including me. maybe if someone started a grass roots mov, set up a web page you could just add your sig.

And they are right. We cannot go to countries that are not approved by congress.

    Remember Cambodia

  • http://twitter.com/shivabeach Shiva

Actually I have never seen a tea party person be pro dropping the defense budget. Your merry leader Sarah wants it vastly increased.

  • john_hogan

Hourglass1, you realize you're living in a Keynesian world, with a centrally controlled economy, using Keynes' recommended methods of money/credit expansion and contraction to set the mood in the marketplace… And you realize Keynesian-type, quasi socialistic policies have been in effect for most of the last hundred years….And you realize “the nastiest of men” are found in government, with the body counts and mass theft to prove their nastiness….And you realize they do all this through manipulations of money and markets, and use Keynes' asinine, nebulous theories to make you think they have a plan, and when it fails, they just scapegoat capitalism and call for more regulation–more power for themselves….You realize all this, right?

Don't confuse the genuine, ethical, logically consistent free market theory that Ron Paul's beliefs are based on with corporate welfare and other idiotic Keynesian manipulations. Those are progressive policies. Get an education.

  • dennycrane

…”Kucinich, Ron Paul: Get US troops out of Pakistan”….

I don't give a fuck what the goofy paul harps: Kucinichl: Get US troops out of Pakistan

    Paul wants no government.

  • progdeprog

No, not really. How about getting rid of the Federal Reserve, which buys govt securities so our government owes these bankers, guaranteed by “us” tax payers. Thats where most of our tax dollars go, to make interest payments. They also manipulate interest rates to give us boom and bust cycles like the Housing Bubble and the 2000 Tech Bubble. They are reckless and chairman Ben Bernanke answers to Fed shareholders, who represent foreign banking interests, not the US president. They run the show here and in every other country with “CENTRALIZED” banking. Thats just part of what RON PAUL is about.

  • cozmicseer

“The administration, like its predecessor, is misusing language in the original post-9/11 resolution to prosecute a wider regional war and Congress is sitting quietly on the sidelines. This must stop.”

They're absolutely right. Congress is the only body that has the right to declare war against a country, regardless of what the military and the president think. Even if there are terrorists in Pakistan, Congress should be approached for approval of these types of operations.

Otherwise this is going to continue unabated with Iran next, followed by any other country they “think” might be harboring enemies. How do you feel about turning more and more countries against us. Just because we have the military superiority now does not mean that we can't be attacked because of these actions. And if war comes to our shores, it is going to be the last gasp of America. The real problem is that it only will take one nuke being brought in covertly, then set off in a major city to turn democracy(what's left of it after Bush & Obama have shredded the hell out of it) into dust. Anyone with a little smarts will realize you can't keep pissing off people with a payback coming.

  • seen2much

Here they are again, offering you a chance out of hell and toward Liberty…

But, all you will do is laugh them off the podium, while slurping loudly on your 80 oz. corn syrup drink, rummaging around in your cooler looking for a “light” beer…

You jerks deserve every bit of the miserable history you are about to endure.

Actually the original contemporary tea parties were started by Ron Paul followers in 2007 and they were always anti-war and still are.

Now tea party has been divided into Ron Paul and Sarah Palin sides of the tea parties. Paul inspired tea parties are anti-war as Palin inspired tea parties are not.

But of course MSM loves to focus on Palin side of the tea parties.

  • Anonymous

Palin has never been the original leader of the tea party. It is Ron Paul who is the original leader of the tea party as the first contemporary tea party was held in 2007 by the followers of Ron Paul in Boston.

Ron Paul tea parties have always been anti-war.

Now tea parties are divided into Paul and Palin side of tea parties. Paul anti-war, Palin war.

  • damnadamzama

Denny, brother. You aren't serious about Paul are you? I like your posts, you are a funny dude. But here, like adults, we must agree to disagree. Paul has been a magnificent voice that has brought to a portion of the mainstream the problem of the Federal Reserve and the central banking/Wall Street, skewed Ponzi scheme.

  • damnadamzama

Word up like motha fuckin' Cameo and shit.

  • conspiraseer

I vote Kucinich / Paul for the People's Party 2012

Sure they disagree fundamentally on many issues, but neither are down with killing innocents via drones, let alone joking about it, as the Sick FUCK in Chief has done. He is a craven Corporatist killer, just like Bush / Cheney / Clinton before them.

I don't care if he can pronounce “Nuclear” if he too is willing to promote lies about a non-existent WMD “threat”.

Good cuzz at this point I really need drugs…

  • tcarlson

There are true Democrats like Dennis Kucinich and true Republicans like Ron Paul. But, the vast majority in Congress (and Obama) are Corporatists. In reality we have a three-party system but only one of them gets to decide anything (including who will be president) and you know which one that is.

Shouldn't truth in advertising rules come into play so we don't have to continue with the charade of this phony two-party system?

  • Anonymous

All I can say is, all the tax-papers money is used to fund unnecessary wars to invade countries and commit genocide.. For who’s and what purpose? It is beyond my comprehension. Then we wonder why we have so many problems in our own country… It is an insane situation… Very depressing… They have nothing constructive to do with money, but use it to attack other countries.. Who’s civilized, and what do we teach our children about Oh Beautiful? I have to pretend I agree with this sickness and then we have to thank and honer our War Heroes???
Alright, thank you: if it wasn’t for the bombing and killing so many civilians I would not be alive today or free for that matter. Thanks for all that bloodshed…
Madmen have nothing better to do…… I am so sorry for all of the bloodshed, not thankful….

  • dennycrane

Sorry. I can not support a person that opposes schools and other social programs. Why would I vote for someone that hates the government and then he wants to run for its demise. Plus, this party was part of a plan that tried to get Gen. Smedley Butler to take his influences into the military and help over throw FDR. Ayn Rand, Rand Paul, Ron Paul: nuts.

  • comet67

Is anybody satisfied the drones have killed some of those Al Queda fucks? Anybody?

  • tcarlson

Sort of fell off the radar, didn't it. We'll have to do another round of…

BOOGA, BOOGA! Emmanuel Goldstein/Osama bin Laden will attack again! Al-CIAda says so!

  • QuadSlacker

    I agree with your point.

But comparing Columbus to Einstein is absurd IMO.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=812949061 Dennis Peterson

Ahhh… but you they are also killing countless women and children. If another country did this ONCE to the U.S. – all hell would break lose. Unfortunately, we pay them $2,000 per body and call them collateral damage. We've taken the low road… wallowed in the mud… created conflicts where there were none… and we wonder why we are so disliked. The sheer ignorance makes me chuckle.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=812949061 Dennis Peterson

Blaming the victims? You make me laugh! Victims are the countless women and children killed in our crossfire. The victims are the Iranians who had nothing to do with 911, but were slaughtered regardless. The victims are the civilians beings killed by our drone attacks. We are creating more hatred and a very destructive future for ourselves. Take a look at reality before stating an untruth.

  • tcarlson

They are “countless” because nobody's counting. Folks like comet67 don't give a shit.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/L63ORNIQK5JJJBLEBSBUR6I4YY J.D

I used to love Kucinich, but now I see him, like Paul, as nothing more than useful tools for their parties. Elections coming in November? Make sure to keep the liberal voters in both parties connected to the party by trotting out the lone progressives. After the Dem and GOP parties have your votes, these two will go back into the woodwork. They both talk a good game, but both are totally unable to bring about any change. Even as president, they would be unable.

Besides, have you not noticed that politicians and pundits on both sides of the aisle have been recently calling for ending the war in Afghanistan all of the sudden? Now it is Pakistan. It all seems scripted. All playing their parts. All owned.

  • Elim

Says who? They'll tell you anything you want to hear.

  • igrobertson

So, you are frustrated that these two can't single-handedly affect change in the system? Maybe it's because the two dominant parties are simply corporate lackeys and one person within each party is not enough to topple the system. I can't really speak of Kucinich since I'm a libertarian and don't agree with much of his agenda, but to say Ron Paul is simply a pawn that emerges at key junctures is silly. What about his valiant effort to audit the Fed that was denigrated repeatedly by politicians that are truly bought and paid for? If anyone is consistent in his attempts to reform Washington it is Ron Paul.

  • EndTheNWO

Hey why stop there? Get out of Afghanistan and Iraq yesterday. The US has spent nearly a $1 trillion on these obscene genocidal wars with nothing to show for it but economic and moral decline at home. It's simply unsustainable. Let us not forget that GD Obama and the Democratic congress is now the responsible for the continuation and expansion of the conflicts. Does this not seem absolutely insane????

  • igrobertson

You are clueless when it comes to Paul's ideas for government. Getting rid of the Fed, the IRS, and Social Security, and a slue of other bureaucratic departments does not translate as removing all semblance of government. A lot of the bureaucracies that he wants to do away with are 20th century additions. Furthermore, if he was truly seeking to establish anarchy then he would not run for President only to advocate the nullification of the Presidency.

  • EndTheNWO

Assuming you are in earnest what possible “satisfaction” could anyone derive from cowardly drone attacks on “suspected” terrorists (who had little or nothing to do with 9/11. One needs to visit the Pentagon to locate the real perpetrators). How could anonymous murder satisfy? More times than not the victims are innocent non-combatants : Women, children and old men.

  • comet67

I am suffocating in the naivety. War is ugly, be thankful you are on a winning team so you can speak your thoughts. Not everyone has that.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/QQNFONTADYP3CCLE54VWTCIZTU Jim L

Neither one has shown any support for these wars. They did not “jump on the bandwagon”, Ron has actually been the driver of the bandwagon since the wars began. If this is indicative of the depth of your knowledge in relation to those politicians you support, who really gives a shit who you support? Support based upon ignorance is meaningless.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/GCPX7DXZGK2H2CPNYRR5IS5A64 Turnip Mcgee

Absolutely. To get away from the banksters and the Kings tax, we won the Revolution on the battlefield, but lost it in the boardroom. END the FED, the rest will follow.

  • EndTheNWO

I have to largely agree. The federal “government” is just a front for a cabal of evil elitists. All three branches of government have been hijacked by $billions in corporate bribes and if necessary blackmail. Sadly, the only hope I see is total systemic collapse and the eventual formation of new regional power centers. It won't be pretty. It may have already begun. We just haven't realized it yet.

  • EndTheNWO

Keep drinking the Kool Aid! The “winning team” has lost it's morality, it's sanity, it's common sense and it's very close to losing it's most valuable and irreplaceable asset : The Constitution and Bill of Rights. The Patriot Act, which Obama reauthorized in February this year, is a totally unconstitutional granting of total dictatorial powers to the executive. Furthermore the Washington Post expose “Top Secret America” reveals what I have suspected for years. The elite are building a high tech surveillance society not for the “terrorists” but to enslave us! Finally, there are active and ongoing efforts by various governmental agencies and the White House to “redesign” the internet such that conversations such as these are controlled and even forbidden if the elite deem them undesirable.

You are not on the “winning” team nor am I. We are just serfs to be monitored, tracked, taxed and controlled and eliminated if necessary.

Alas, perhaps I'm mistaken and you will enjoy the RFID chip they implant in you head.

Take the tin foil hat off your head for a second and realize that is simply not in our foreign affairs interests to bail from the Middle East and Asia. It's a tough world out there and your country is doing some things, maybe unsavory like all other countries, but you benefit. If for nothing else, than to have this forum. Enjoy your freedom, you have it.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/L63ORNIQK5JJJBLEBSBUR6I4YY J.D

Yes, Kucinich ran for president on anti-war platform. When he lost the nomination, he took the stage and pimped for war-mongering Obama for president.

Kucinich came out against Obama's recent health care overhaul. Then, no surprise, at the last minute, came out FOR the overhaul.

Kucinich struts and talks, but he pretty much ends up voting as he is told.

Sorry if you disagree with me. But that doesn't make me ignorant, or as another poster implied, a disinfo agent. It only means that I no longer have any faith in the man.

pretty funny, john. please, i need no history lessons from the likes of anyone living or educated under the spell of the chicago school of econ or from within the arrogant bubble of american exceptionalism. the living evidence that corruption, graft, injustice, death and destruction are the true “virtues of selfishness”.

the infantile adoration of ms rosenbaum and her “rational egoism” that clearly manifests “anti-statism” presupposes that the goal of life is riches and that the pursuit of same is “philosophical realism” … western kindergarden of philosophical thought at best, but great cover for the corporatists and oligarchists as steps toward libertarianism – deregulation and regional trade pacts – and claims of the promise and panacea of globalism keep the wage earners, the have less and have nots, at bay and all wealth and resources are consolidated.

tell me friend, when would such a magic castle point in time begin? when and how would/could we all participate, have an equal shot at participation and not get swallowed up by the already entrenched funded players in this ” … genuine, ethical, logically consistent free market …” of yours? that is even granting that all of human endeavor would magically coalesce into one same grand purpose …

No, Keynes was a fool because he believed that you could create a stable fiat currency, and our constitution puts the coining of money in the hands of our government, with sound money under the US treasury.

What we have currently is a PRIVATE consortium LOANING money to the US government with interest, the additional cost passed on to you, the taxpayer.

The founders knew that the monetary system in the hands of a private group would inevitably spiral back into feudalism.

    tl;dr

Austrian economics with a constitutional backing>>>>>Keynesian economics under a neo-feudalistic global scientific control grid.

Property is property. Personal, Private, Public.

  • rawstorysuspect

First of all, Ayn Rand was a stupid cunt, and should never be associated with Ron Paul or any other respectable person, libertarian or otherwise. Besides that, Ron Paul isn't anti-government, he's against the corrupt centralized US federal government. He is against coercive, flawed social programs, such as the Department of Education. This does not mean he is against education itself. Social programs are just fine as long as they only involve voluntary participation and people involved can have a say in how they operate. Obviously if you have a problem with the government it is not a contradiction to run for office to make it better.

And don't even get me started on the hegemony of roads, man. FUCKING ROADS. Defending our road system is defending cars and the organization of society to be dependent on roads, for the benefit of THE OIL COMPANIES AND THE OIL BARONS.

do you understand the concept of put up or shut up, libertas?

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/5SOOAOFYVTZR22E6RC76ZDTENQ Matt,

I think we need to understand a few things, ignoring the reasonless nature of the war:

    1) Unmanned planes don't kill soldiers DIRECTLY, and it cannot really be proved that they kill them INDIRECTLY through hatred generated by any unmanned aircraft attack.

    2) I'm not sure why they said that the President is using the terminology in a perverted way when the whole reason they can is because the US is in a state of emergency, which Obama continued in his wisdom

    3) Being a President offers little sympathy amongst that which supports the office, and vice versa. This must change but whatever, changing it is not the point

NOW, back to the war in Afghanistan. Gee, wish the Russians didn't give the CIA reason to counter them via the Mujaheddin.

Osama is a freedom fighter. No self respecting mortal reserves the right to be evil, this I know. All of them who don't respect themselves are on Wall street, and the infection is spreading. Thanks to the success of Capitalism, self respect is no longer a valid strategy when it comes to making money.

Thanks to the proven success, which is written by those who succeed, of the institutions put in place in the world, it is clearly evident that these institutions play upon our nature on a daily basis. We are easily jealous of loss, so self righteousness is always an option, even though we hate it in others. The Media keeps this in check by establishing the “cool” morals.

They're playing on your insecurities daily. In this war, there is only freedom fighters. There are no terrorists. You are deluding yourself to think so, when you relate these people to yourself. Do not forget, they'll help you realize the truth but they will pervert your understanding of it so that you are a lost sock in the midst of the dryer, which spins and spins until no water is left.

Shrivel, ye cowards. Liberation is in the mind. You need not strike these people the same as you need not be pacifist towards them, but there is truth and there is ignorance. Choose.

I know a lot of folks disagree with me on Drones. I worked on F4's, last I heard some of those are now converted drones. Sentimentally I wish they were still active, or better yet, not in the boneyard, but being sold for transportation! They were a workhorse to be reckoned with, expensive as fuck. Still some are active last time I looked in some countries 199x. Here's what happened… Back in the 80's , Back in the day.. The first damned brand new cute frigging triangle shaped fighter jet is what doomed us all. (I can't even remember the model now) God it's a work of art. We were like OMFG at the time.

Anyway, things are all in motion eh? Not much us voters or people or citizens can do anymore. The reps don't listen, are apathetic, and driven by corporate and foreign interests.

So I say lets have fun before it all ends.

So fun for me is like a video game.

The ultimate weapon, In my opinion, is invisibility. If that's from changing time, or actually doing 100% chameleon , I think that is the most deadly warrior, who COULD clean everything up on the planet with a butter knife!

Here's what I think about Drones.
a.) invasion of property lines and privacy snooping without a warrant
b.) can be made deadly powerful
    c.) they're remote controlled
d.) I can't say or I'd have to kill ya.
e.) perhaps need more oversight. I don't have a clue how though.
f.) they save lives, because no human is in danger from an op.
g.) without armaments, just camera's, I wonder how I could get one? heh heh heh Give the drone the $40K fine and nickle dime ~/~ rendered out. hahahaha Need to fly over the GULF?

God I loved the model Airplanes of the 1970's

    damit, that didn't make sense.

We have (AIPAC,CFR,TC,UN,UNEP,IMF,ROTHCHILD,BILDERBERG,PNAC,MONSANTO,GE,ABC,CBS,PBS,NBC,MSNBC,CNN,FOX,CNBC,WSJ,COKE,PEPSI,SNUGGY,TOM VU!) wtf are you talking about?

Party? Oh you mean Democrat, Republican, Independent, Libertarian, Greeeeeen, Peace (D,R,I,L,G,P) ?!

Come on Tucker. Those one letter party no longer matters. WEAR NASCAR PROUDLY ON YOUR UNIFORM!

Your rationalizations are the sign of a very delusional person. Last time I checked, this forum and all free speech derives not from “us” winning a “zero sum” resource game with the rest of the world (and murdering anyone we wish in the process) but from our RIGHTS guaranteed in the First Amendment of the Constitution.

To deny anyone, anywhere basic human rights is to live outside the rule of law.

    For who's and what purpose?
To control the world's oil supply AND other valuable natural resources such as coal, gems, gold, silver, whatever the Multinational CORPORATIONS WANT to make mega BUCKS off of.

  • pfii63

No… multi-national corporations benefit. We the people don't get crap out of it, nor are we more secure now than before the invasion.

I understand well that it is in the long-term geopolitical interests of the United States to be the bad ass on the block to maintain its own grip on power. But I will not be deluded into believing that this is moral.

  • pfii63

EXACTLY why I didn't leave the Dems… they left me. I am a proud progressive and tired of the corporate candidates on both sides getting elected. Until the money is out of our political process, it will be screwed. Thus, by definition we are likely going to be screwed for a long time.

  • RightWingLeft

    Chief Joseph, Nez Perce (Nimiputimt)
    Quotes
We were taught to believe that the Great Spirit sees and hears everything, and that he never forgets, that hereafter he will give every man a spirit home according to his deserts; If he has been a good man, he will have a good home; if he has been a bad man, he will have a bad home. This I believe, and all my people believe the same.

I am tired of talk that comes to nothing It makes my heart sick when I remember all the good words and all the broken promises. There has been too much talking by men who had no right to talk.
It does not require many words to speak the truth.

If the white man wants to live in peace with the Indian, he can live in peace. Treat all men alike.Give them all the same law.Give them all an even chance to live and grow. All men were made by the same Great Spirit Chief. They are all brothers. The Earth is the mother of all people, and all people should have equal rights upon it. Let me be a free man, free to travel, free to stop, free to work, free to trade where I choose my own teachers, free to follow the religion of my fathers, free to think and talk and act for myself, and I will obey every law, or submit to the penalty.”

You might as well expect the rivers to run backward as that any man who was born free should be contented to be penned up and denied liberty to go where he pleases.

We are taught to believe that the Great Spirit sees and hears everything, and that he never forgets: that hereafter he will give every man a spirit-home according to his deserts…. This I believe, and all my people belive the same
