Florida church’s ‘Burn a Koran Day’ brings Islamist threats

The controversy over the construction of a mosque near Ground Zero in Manhattan has sparked a wave of anti-Muslim activism among some conservative and religious groups, and nowhere is that more in evidence than in a non-denominational church’s plan to hold a “Burn a Koran Day” on the next anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Muslim advocacy groups and evangelical Christian organizations alike have condemned the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, for its plans to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with a day for burning Islam’s holy book. And at least one jihadist organization has promised revenge if the event goes ahead as planned.

“On September 11th, 2010, from 6pm – 9pm, we will burn the Koran on the property of Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, FL in remembrance of the fallen victims of 9/11 and to stand against the evil of Islam,” says the church’s Facebook page. “Islam is of the devil!”

The church has drawn condemnation from the National Association of Evangelicals, which said in a statement that “Burn a Koran Day” shows “disrespect for our Muslim neighbors and would exacerbate tensions between Christians and Muslims throughout the world.”

“It sounds like the proposed Koran burning is rooted in revenge,” NAE President Leith Anderson said. “Yet the Bible says that Christians should ‘make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else’.”

The church’s plans have grabbed the attention of the Islamist movement. Members of the al-Falluja online forum have reportedly promised to “spill rivers of your (American) blood” if the event goes forward.

But the church is holding steadfast in its position.

“We believe that Islam is … causing billions of people to go to hell, it is a deceptive religion, it is a violent religion and that is proven many, many times,” Pastor Terry Jones told CNN.

The church has also stirred controversy with its plans to protest Gainesville Mayor Craig Lowe, who is openly gay. And some former church members have accused the leadership of using the church’s tax-exempt status for profit.

The Gainesville Sun reported earlier this month:

Former church members who have worshiped under senior pastors Terry and Sylvia Jones are speaking out about what they describe as financial abuses at the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville and its sister church in Cologne, Germany, founded by Terry Jones in 1981 and closed in 2008.

By all accounts – the church’s Web site, interviews with current and former members and Terry Jones’ own description – the church in Gainesville, as was the one in Germany, is structured with a for-profit business operating out of tax-exempt church property, using the unpaid labor of church members to maintain a steady stream of merchandise for sale online.

That structure has raised questions with the Alachua County Property Appraiser’s Office, which has said it will investigate the church’s tax-exempt status.

And how violent has Christianity been over the centuries, how many millions lost their lives and their cultures to forced conversion and torture. Study history before you condem anyone else. Whoever behaves this way, Christian or Muslim, is Godless and Evil. The Christians have a long history of burning books, re-writing history and imprisoning people for their beliefs……and let us not forget the Torquemada and the burning of people they disagree with. What they havent burned, they've re-written to suit themselves. Talk about violent and unloving. Christ must really weep for what has become of his teachings. And if you burn the Koran, you should also be aware that it is mostly about Jesus and does not disagree with Christianity in any meaningful way about him or what he taught. Burn it and you are burning your own history and Prophet. (I am not a Muslim, just in case you think so.)

I think a really nice result would be if the congregation proceeded with its plans and the members of the al-Falluja online forum tried to make good on its promise of revenge and both groups ended up annihilating each other completely. And one little piece of the big problem is solved!

“Oh, the Catholics hate the protestants, and the protestants hate the Catholics. And the Hindus hate the Muslims, and everybody hates the Jews…” (Thank you Tom Lehrer).

So much foolishness on what was originally a bunch of good ideas. Religion is like the world's worst game of post office. One person tells someone else something, who puts his own spin on it when telling the next. Imagine 2,000 years of bad interpretations and you've got where we are today. That is why there are so many “fish on Fridays” things in one religion and so many “women will submit to man's insanity” in the other. Either one is no longer what they should be, which is a code of ethics FOR YOURSELF TO FOLLOW.

This killing everyone who isn't in your own little clique nonsense is the most immature and childish thing I've ever run across. “I'll burn your book”… “I'll make the rivers run with your blood”… what a bunch of whining children. How pathetic that these people are grown adults. More than enough childishness to go around here on all sides, But the cake goes to the instigators, who don't have the brains to just shut the fuck up.

A true Christian first and foremost would never judge another. He holds love in his heart for all men, regardless of any so-called “shortcoming”, for a true Christian themselves know that they also fall short in the eyes of God, and failure is failure, period. A true Christian knows that there isn't a curve one is graded on, that it's a zero sum proposition. That my “failures” are no better, nor worse than those of another and that to measure it this way is a lie, usual committed by those who really have never learned what Christianity is really about. (Maybe it makes em feel better about themselves to point and say “at least I'm not……)

This is such a complex topic, with so many variable which are specific to each situation, that there's not a man alive who can profess to speak on it unless it is them, themselves living it. Wrong in one man's eyes is genuine and pure in the view of another.A true Christian knows that the “answers” lie in the heart of each man, individually and any man professing to be in a position to speak on such a thing only reveals that man's ignorance.

    Peace, Love, All.

I've been hearing this “true Christian” stuff for decades. It is used to separate one Christian from other Christians.he/she does not want to be associated with, by saying they are not “true Christians”. I first heard the term applied to the Christians that went on the Crusades. Since they murdered innocent women and children, they weren't “true Christians” so it doesn't count. This is bullshit. They worshiped God, they accepted Jesus as their savior, etc. They were as “true” (whatever that is) as any other Christian. Ditto for these people. To say they are not true Christians is just to avoid that fact that devotion to Christ does not keep you from being a flaming asshole.

And the Moslems that want to spill Christian blood are true Moslems too.

Where are the real Christians? Why aren't they condemning this in every way possible? Do they not understand that by doing this they are helping to create an atmosphere of hate? Do they not understand that by condemning a world-wide religion, they are helping to create future terrorists? And where are those terrorists going to turn? Right here in America, and they'll have only themselves to blame. But you can bet your azz they'll blame Obama if the terrorists do attack us again.

    It’s a business but it’s a church – it’s a Christian business tax scam, one of thousands.
It’s got “Dove” in the title yet leads in example by demonstrating intollerance.

Sadly, the people who believe in man-made belief systems demonstrate a will to believe the unprovable and unsubstanciated – as such they are also more susceptible to the commercialization of their religion… even if a church engages in destructive actions that set a bad example rather than action beneficial to humans.

Really, burning paper and ink… achieves what? Makes you feel good? Feeds your pyromaniac lust for burning something? ‘cuz it sure doesn’t make any ACTUAL difference to the world or contribute ANYTHING towards peace and humanity… it’s just pointless symbolism of your hatred and makes you look like petty children that should have grown up a long time ago.

Sadly..yeah.. this is historically exactly what Christianity is all about. It is one of the single most violent, oppressive, and intolerant religions, historically and presently, in he modern world. Crusades anyone? It was the Christians, not the Muslims, burning down churches, raping women, killing children, all in the name of Christianity.

Christianity is in decline in Europe as a whole, and has collapsed in Britain in particular, leaving even the most committed atheists wondering what is going to fill the spiritual vacuum.

    From The Times:
“Even among the world’s most famous atheists, the crisis of faith among Christians in Europe has been met with concern.

Richard Dawkins, author of The God Delusion, said: “There are no Christians, as far as I know, blowing up buildings. I am not aware of any Christian suicide bombers. I am not aware of any major Christian denomination that believes the penalty for apostasy is death. I have mixed feelings about the decline of Christianity, in so far as Christianity might be a bulwark against something worse.”

Peter Tatchell, the human rights campaigner and one of the organisers of the Protest the Pope demonstration at Westminster Cathedral last weekend, came to the defence of a Christian street preacher who was fined £1,000 in Glasgow for saying that homosexuality was a sin.

Shawn Holes, a Baptist from America, was charged with “uttering homophobic remarks” in a breach of the peace that prosecutors said was “aggravated by religious prejudice”.

Mr Tatchell said: “The price of freedom of speech is that we sometimes have to put up with opinions that are objectionable and offensive. Just as people should have the right to criticise religion, people of faith should have the right to criticise homosexuality.”

It is a sign of how bad things have become that the faith’s enemies seem now to be defending it.”

The Crusades were a long delayed response to the assaults upon Christendom by Islam. Most of the Middle East, and all of North Africa were once Christian lands, but Islam, spread by the sword, conquered these regions. Those who refused to convert were either killed or enslaved. As the Islamic assaults seemed endless, the European nations finally were able to organize and fight back.

It is interesting that the only nation state to institutionalize freedom of religion for centuries was Islamic Ottoman Turkey. Christian Europe murdered Jews and others such as Gypsies by the tens of thousands, tortured them in the auto da fe in ways that made the methods of Himmler's SS seem mild by comparison. If any religion acted in a Satanic way it was Christianity as practiced by the medieval and renaissance Catholic church. The so called Dove Outreach Church is continuing a long tradition. Please note that I distinguish between Christians and those few gentle souls who truly follow the teachings of Jesus as in “blessed are the peacemakers”.

I always find it amusing that someone professing to be a Christian is always a true Christian while those Christians who don't agree with them are fake Christians. You claim a true Christian doesn't judge others but in the statement where you disparage who is a true or false Christian you are judging. Therefore, by your own standards, you can't be a Christian.

And, FYI: the accepted way [and in fact only way to spell the names of English kings and queens] is, Henry VIII [using latin-based numbers]; whilst there is no universally accepted western way of transliterating ObL's arabic name into English, the most common is Osama bin Laden. Same with Taliban [note only one 'a' in the first part of the transliterated word]; Same with the proper noun, Saudi Arabia, since proper nouns are nouns that represent unique entities. That's why they are always, always capitalised.

once that was done, they set out with a vengeance to destroy every other form of Christianity. and they had the power of the whole Roman Empire behind them.

women–who had been equal in some of the other churches–became property. churches that didn’t agree with the ‘official’ church were utterly destroyed.

here and there, some of these other manuscripts survived. . .certain places in Central Asia, the Coptic Egyptian churchess. . .same kinda thing happened under Asoka’s assault on Buddhism, before he converted. . .scriptures were taken away and hidden in the mountains, in deserts, in caves. . .

the Nag Hammadi Library is one example of these earlier books being found. (the Gospel of Judas is another.) at that, when tracked down to their discoverers, it was found half had been used for fuel in the stove at home.

and the makeup of the ‘official’ Bible changed, too. . .books were removed as needed as the religion developed. the Protestant Bible took out some of the books of the Catholics; others were taken out when it was transplanted here to the colonial USA.

and this watered down, diluted and deluded version is what our would-be Christian Taliban call ‘The Word Of God’.

it’s only been ninety, a hundred years since American Protestants were murdering American Catholics and Jews (although it still happens, now and then).

there were laws in Missouri that used to order the execution of Mormons, too.

  • boutet

America protector of human rights? Tell that to a Native American or a black person who couldn't even drink from the same water fountain as you until 1963. Tell it to the two million Vietnamese civilians who died from 1965 to 1974. As for the Ottoman empire respecting religious freedom during the middle ages and the Renaissance, it is a historical fact.

  • llkernj

No one book has caused more deaths and more terror than the bible. THAT is the book that needs to be burned. My greatest wish is to have christianity and all it's lies disappear from the earth.

  • felixthecatxxxx

It is hard to decide if Christianity or Islam is responsible for the worst atrocities in human history. In the first few centuries after its violent birth, 250 million people were exterminated in the name of Islam, and whole civilizations were destroyed. In the twentieth century, the genocide of the Armenians and the Pontic Greeks is noteworthy, and the current Turkish operations against the Assyrians is also to be noted.

Generally speaking, Christianity is an excuse for violence, whereas Islam is a reason for violence. The Quran makes it very clear: the infidel, the infidel must convert, submit, or die. The polytheist is usually awarded only one choice- death.

I realize that political correctness makes any criticism or analysis of Islam difficult, but why? It is a belief system and a political system that has caused centuries of harm and death, and should be subjected to study. It is obvious from reading the posts here that almost no one has even a primitive understanding of Islam let alone knowledge of the Quran's teachings.

  • felixthecatxxxx

That is debatable. The terror and deaths that the Quran is responsible for may or may not outweigh the Bible's. As for the present, would you rather live in a Christian country, or a Muslim one? Having lived in both, I would choose the former, but hey, that's just me.

  • jimbeaux

How about “none of the above”!
(my preference is to disarm all of you & move you to a part of the world where you couldn't hurt any innocent bystanders – and provide you with plenty of rocks & stones for you to “recycle” at each other.)

  • Buford

JIMBEAUX gave the correct answer, but your question is a red herring so that you can avoid the original discussion. I find it very hard to believe that any single book could be responsible for more deaths than The Bible. Aside from the 'assimilate or perish' attitude of Christians throughout history… and, in fariness, the brutality of those who opposed The Bible… you have to remember that The Bible is the most published book ever.

  • Buford

CORRECTION – 'Chrisitanity' was not responsible for the worst genocides and atrocities, Christians were… there's a difference.

  • Buford

What's missing from all of the hub-bub below, with folks arguing over the Koran and The Bible, is the recognition that burning the book is simply a vengeful, spiteful act to provoke those who believe differently than these Christians do. Burning the Koran will not do anything to stem the alleged 'evil' of Islam… it will not teach anyone that Islam is some sort of sham, and that people should instead follow Christ… it will accomplish nothing aside from angering a large group of people unnecessary, which is a decidedly un-Christian thing to do.

  • jimbeaux

a few posters here are claiming that present day christians are much more evolved than muslims. If the religious right could control the USA – the first thing they would do is set back woman's rights several hundred years – taking away a woman's right to choose would just be the beginning.

Women would be “stoned” for infidelities just as they are now in Iran – (of course there are always the alternatives of burning at the stake & or drowning them for being witches.)

History has shown very few religions to actually practice Love, Acceptance & Tolerance – but let's hope in the future – they all start to “get it”.

  • Buford

Better yet, how about we organize a second event… print out a big copy of that picture of the standard white Jesus, and then have 75-100 Muslims encircle it and fling chocolate pudding onto it. Not sure what, but I'm sure the pudding is symbolic of something.

  • Buford

Actually, judging from the pic at the top of the page, a daisy-cutter would be more effective on that church than a nuke.

The Bible and the Koran should both be burned – their both books dedicated to the same demon god. Jesus says we'll know them by their works – well, what have the works been of BOTH the Koran and the Bible? Bloodshed, oppression, intolerance.

  • lilyannrose

Oh boy! That will really show em, huh. Maybe for payback the Muslims could hold a James Dobson look alike contest with the contestants dressed in JC robes with a plastic crown of thorns on their heads? These days I'm incapable of showing any respect for any Christian denomination, where is the Christ in Christians these days? I know there are those who don't agree with these wing nuts but why are they being so damned quiet?

  • lilyannrose

I'll second that emotion! I've had it with all of them. I think their problem is too much Yahweh and not enough JC. The amount of ugly coming out of the christian leadership is not to be comprehended as it does not serve to endorse the idea of love and acceptance.

  • lilyannrose

There's always option C – Neither. I admittedly do not know the history of military actions undertaken by Muslims but I am aware of the burning of many many many women as witches. I am aware that after the Council of Nicaea wherein JC was voted in as the son of god that many Gnostic cults were murdered. I am aware of the complete extermination of the Cathars in France. Hey then how about that thing called the Spanish Inquisition? How about that nut case Farmer Miller who started all of the end days BS which despite missing his deadline has only escalated. How about all of this ignorance with so many believing that JC is going to come again (hope he carries condoms) before 2050? How about James Dobson throwing one of his kids away because he's gay? How about all the hate against gays?

    Where is the love?

Christians have done the exact same things as the Muslims. They do the same dance and switch roles of victim and abuser over time. My, My! What wonderful, good solid christians! I wonder if any of the members of Dove outreach church sees any of themselves in the radical islamist? This just goes to show all of us how threatening religion can be. The power the ministers have to mold the opinions and lead the actions of their flock. I don't believe in god or organized religion. They make way to much money off the backs of people who will actually donate to these churches while sacrificing in their own lives to do so. I don't want to tell others they shouldn't believe. That's their choice. I do wish that more people would have a healthy distrust of all people who tell them if they believe and DONATE it will get them into heaven. I'm tired of the power religion has cultivated in political areas.. Ministers like Jones are so ignorant and yet he is charge of leading these people. This country needs to get a grip! What ever happened to “common sense”? ALL radical groups should be suspect and there will always be suggestible people who will follow. That is why it is even more important to call these groups out and preach tolerance instead of hate. Unfortunately Jones hasn't gotten the message. Religion is suppose to breed love, charity and tolerance and not hate and intolerance, that is why religion is so dangerous.

The Khans of north Asia built palaces of human skulls were they following Quran or Bible… neither of the two books
Was Hitler following Bible when he killed so many people in Poland for whatever reason? NO! BUT HE CLAIMED TO BE A CHRISTIAN
Were Allies following Biblical teachings when they killed hundereds of thousands of people in first world war and in second as well? NO! BUT THEY CLAIMED TO BE CHRISTIANS

And they call themselves “Dove Outreach”. It really is almost beyond anything they could think up on Mad TV or Comedy Central. 2. You are an apostate, which to Muslims is lower than an infidel.
    3. You are obviously angry and jealous that your people are backward religious fanatics, while you see other peoples prosper.
    3. As to penises of infants, I will leave that subject to the OBGYNS, urologists and in your case the psychiatrists. It implies neuroses to refer to the sex organs of babies in a discussion of book burning and I frankly I have not investigated the subject of circumcisim.

People are really the root cause of so much misery. Misery, suffering, oppression has been committed by Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and Atheists. Getting caught up in the religious aspect simply distorts the picture.

  • Jbuuty

What seems to be happening is stupid for stupid. Jesus taught to love both your neighbor and your enemy, so no matter what this church might think of Islam, they have a rather negative attitude toward Jesus. What they are doing is stupidly expressing their hate for people they know nothing about.

The all-too-predictable response by a Muslim group (out of thousands of Muslim groups) is stupid threats of violence. In reality, they end up helping the stupid Gainesville church to actually look better than they would. Muslim teaching does say to defend Islam, however, sometimes this is better done by ignoring idiots rather than falling into their traps.

  • Jbuuty

here again we meet the CINOs: Christians In Name Only. our own form of Sunni Qutbism and Wahhabism.

it seems the only 'Christians' that get any recognition nowadays are the CINOs (including politicians) and the Catholic priesthood. . .

as always, religion really has nothing to do with it; it's mere fear and hatred of the stranger. one group of monkeys flinging feces at another group.

notice to CINOs: there's no difference between you and the members of al-Falluja. . .it's just that they have the power you so desperately want.

and you're just as backward and ignorant as they are.

  • Jbuuty

This is often repeated, about why don't Christians speak out against these pseudo-Christian hate groups. Yet the article says that the National Association of Evangelicals did speak out against them. Protestantism, unlike Catholicism, and much like Islam, has a very decentralized authority. There is no Pope, nor church council, that can simply ex-communicate them. All that can be done is to make official statements, like the NAE did.

There are always Christians who denounce this sort of idiocy and hatred. However, the way our news media works, they don't get much of hearing. Think of the numerous Muslim leaders who have denounced terrorism, yet we hear over and over that no Muslim leader has done so. Think of how many Jewish leaders in Israel have denounced the building of the 'wall' and the destruction of Palestinian houses and olive groves, yet we never hear those messages in our news media.

  • http://friendfeed.com/okami okami

well. . .it's happened in other religions, too. just never been as extreme. . .

Joseph Campbell devotes a chapter in his 'Myths To Live By' on 'The Mythologies Of War'. One of the faiths he looks at is the Judaeo-Christian-Muslim tradition; the other is Hinduism.

'The Bhagavad-Gita', so loved and admired by Thoreau and other members of the American Enlightenment (and me) is a gorgeous little book.

the problem is that it's Krishna's speech to Arjuna at the beginning of the Great War. Arjuna doesn't want to fight, and Krishna teaches him this yoga so that he can kill his relatives without guilt or regret.

as a rather interesting aside, Krishna and Christ both mean “Anointed”, showing common linguistic roots. and both Hindus and Christians believe in a triune God, who is simultaneously One: God, Jesus, Holy Ghost – Brahman, Vishnu (Krishna), Shiva.

I don't know if my last post posted. So to summarize. I've lived with muslims and they were some of the most warm hearted people I have met to date. The dove people sound not as warmhearted (ha!) I'm wondering if they have forgotten the teachings of Jesus, which say to practice loving people who persecute you and those you love. So I'm going to attempt to practice by turning my outrage for the dove people into loving sentiments. Just because a lot of people fail to follow the teachings of Jesus and other masters doesn't mean we need to respond to them in a different manner. I'd suggest praying for the dove ministry in hopes they will let go of their hatred and find peace. I think we as a nation should have prayed more in 2001 for the Taliban. (Which is not islam!!!!) and maybe this terrorist situation could have made some improvement.

  • damixaustex

    roflmao

    “Why is it that …”
    Ooh, ooh…I know this one.

It's really quite simple. There was a fundamental change in the way people view god at that time. Prior, the many gods were more powerful than man, very unlike man and worked in very unique ways. Man didn't really identify with a god personally, we just observed what gods did and tried to stay out of their way.

There's a period where peoples thinking shifted toward singular gods, and gods became basically super humans with human characteristics and behaviors, especially bitter vengeance. That's the common thread in Hebrew religions (including Christianity and Islam). Followers know their god is easily angered, delivers retribution, and, most importantly, because they perceive their god as a sort of humanistic form, they think they know and can interpret or predict the mind of god. I think this causes them to act on those feeling…for god.

I long for the day when we properly see this all as a form of insanity. It should be considered child abuse to teach this stuff to your kids.

Actually there aren’t any prerequisites for being a flaming asshole. In fact, as far as I know, all one has to do to qualify for such a prestigious title is breathe. But to address your apparent point: by your own logic, devotion to Christ doesn’t make one a flaming asshole either. As I attempted to point out initially. It’s about the way one treats their fellow man. The irony is that more often than not, those who demand that others accept their personal choices and behavior ( which I could care less about and have no interest in whatsoever) are always the quickest to condemn anyone with faith.

While it is true that I have never heard of satanists trying to kill others for “saying things about their 'prophets' “, it is apparent that you are woefully ignorant of history regarding christians, jews and buddhists if you claim that these three groups are innocent of such behavior.

Jews have been murdering both fellow jews & others for affronts to their god for millenia, much of the torah is a record of such behavior.

Christians have been murdering fellow christians for about 1700 years (since first obtaining temporal power) starting with the arians; and non-christians from the same time. Let's not forget the Inquisitions and the Crusades and the conquest and destruction of native american, asian and african cultures too.

Even buddhists have gotten into the act with numerous events of sectarian mass violence in Japan (at least).

It is funny how atheists and agnostics claim they never do such things when the Holocaust was the result of humanistic and Darwinistic thought. They're just as guilty for killing in the name of a belief system.

  • fallenone

“Christian Europe” My butt. It was Darwinism at its worst. The concept of the “Super Race” and selective breeding was a humanistic concept.

Obvious stupidity aside, atheism is not a belief system – it's the lack of a belief system. It's the REFUSAL to believe in a god because there is no evidence for such a belief. Continue your lies about Hitler's atheism though – if you repeat them often enough, they will become the truth.

Vereide was a Norwegian immigrant who founded Goodwill Industries in Seattle in 1916 to assist the city's unemployed Scandinavian immigrant population. Pope Benedict XVI, a member of Hitler’s Youth as a seminary student who was later drafted into the German Army during the Third Reich, had the temerity to blame the Holocaust on a “godless regime” during his May visit to Israel.

Adolph Hitler, who was Roman Catholic, wrote in 1941 that he was always and would remain a Catholic. In Mein Kampf, Hitler wrote “therefore, I am convinced that I am acting as the agent of our Creator. By fighting off the Jews, I am doing the Lord's work.”

The Pope wouldn't even enter the holocaust museum, going only into the hall of remembrance, because the museum has a plaque criticizing Pope Pius XII for not doing enough to save the Jews. And of course the Church had various concordats with the Vatican throughout Hitler’s reign, masses were said for Hitler, etc.

Many Israelis were critical of the Pope’s remarks on the Holocaust, as they did not refer to his own German nationality and personal experience. Four months earlier, the Pope caused outrage by revoking the excommunication of four bishops, including one who has denied the Holocaust.

You’re mistaken or have simply read the wrong part of the book you reference. Read NEW Testament. My term “true” is nothing more than a term used to distinguish between those who profess to believe something, but contradict that belief by the very actions they exhibit. Sorta like someone saying I’m not alcoholic, but does it with a bottle of whiskey to their lips. This isn’t complicated, nor is there any need to twist it. Does anyone read posts anymore and take em at face value without trying to a Freudian analysis on em.

  • Liberalish

Wow you are angry! How about you aim that anger on the people responsible for twisting the islamic faith into what is seen in Iran, the mullahs and the people who keep them in power, supprisingly the rich!!

All faiths can be used for evil, its not just islam but chritsanity, hinduisam, etc. etc. These texts if taken litallary all condone killing of adultous women whilst saying things like 'thou shal not kill' this will confuse any simple mind thus creating twisted logic.

People who burn books are just showing off their ignorance as so the people who lable everyone from a particular faith as evil murdurers who are taking everyone to hell. Idiots!!

    Editor,

Has America become the land of the special interest and the home of the double standard? Lets see: If we lie to the Congress, it's a felony and if the congress lies to us its just politics; if we dislike a black person, we're racist and if the black person dislikes whites, it's their 1st. Amendment right; the government spends millions to rehabilitate criminals and they do almost nothing for the victims; in public schools you can teach that homosexuality is OK but you better not use the word GOD in the process; you can kill an unborn child, but its wrong to execute a mass murderer; we don't burn books in America, we now rewrite them; we got rid of the communist and socialist threat by renaming them “progressives”; we are unable to close our border with Mexico, but have to problem protecting the 38th parallel in Korea; if you protest against President Obama's policies you're a terrorist, but if you burned an American flag or GWB in effigy it was your 1st. Amendment right.

You can have pornography on TV or the Internet, but you better not put a nativity scene in a public park during Christmas; we have eliminated all criminals in America because they are now called sick people; we can use a human fetus for medical research, but it's wrong to use an animal.

We take money from those who work hard for it and give it to those who don't want to work; we all support the Constitution, but only when it supports our political ideology; we still have freedom of speech, but only if we are being politically correct; parenting has been replaced with Ritalin and video games; the land of opportunity is now the land of hand out; the similarity between Hurricane Katrina and the gulf oil spill is that neither president did anything to help.

And how do we handle a major crisis today? The government appoints a committee to determine who's at fault, then threatens them, passes a law, raises our taxes; tells us the problem is solved so they can get back to their reelection campaign.

What has happened to the land of the free and the home of the brave?

    – Ken Huber

You and I don't live in the same world apparently. The U.S. doesn't spend millions “rehabilitating” criminals–just housing them. Schools do not teach about homosexuality or much of anything else for that matter. The U.S. does execute mass murderers as well as innocent children in other countries. Some people in America claim they are protecting life when they fight against abortion but don't give a damn or won't give a dime when an adult can't find a job that pays enough to feed a family. Americans die every day for lack of medical care but we spend trillions to kill a made up enemy.

And, it's perfectly OK for Christians to ruin the lives of many of the world's peoples in “God's Name” because they don't believe in One God. They actually think “their” God is competing with other gods of the world. Geez, when are you going to get it: Jesus was a socialist (read Acts), Christians, Jews, and Muslims all have the same “God of Abraham”, and burning any holy book is an attack on not only freedom of religion but freedom of speech.

the Nazis picked up most of their themes from us and our eugenics programs. concentration camps had been used in the civil war. experimentation on humans without permission had been performed over and over (see the Tuskegee Expereiment, in which men were injected with syphilis). forced sterilization of 'undesireables' was another feature of good ol' American no-how ('know-how', yeah, but my way's more accurate).

Henry Ford being a personal hero of Hitler's–he kept his picture in his office–slave labor in the performance of mass production was transplanted from the US to Nazi Germany as well, Peenemunde being one of the notable locations. Speer, the only Nazi to apologize, took manny out of the concentration camps (where they faced certain death) to be slave labor in weapons and industrial production. very many still died, but some lived that would have otherwise have died in the camps.

strictly speaking, your definition be correct. meaning no disrepect, however, in my limited opinion–and it is limited–it has appeared to me that many of the behavioral features associated with religion are also present in atheism.

it's seemed to me that these behaviors may be brought out when there is conflict between 'believers' and atheists.

this is much like some aspects of science, although the cirumstances differ. science is supposed to be open to new findings that may contradict present knowledge. disproof of ideas is supposedly more important than their confirmation.

however, an organizational structure is sometimes put around certain ideas, such as the resistance to Alfred Wegener's proto-continental drift theory. in cases where present findings are treated as dogma, science is no longer science, as it has become little different than organized religion.

well, if you read the Book of Acts carefully, you find that Saul of Tarsus was a zealot. he was probably a member of the Jewish sect of the time that were called 'Zealots'.

conversion of zealotry does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the behavior of the psychological zealot. basically, it only exchanges one focus or name for another.

and this is what you saw with Saul. he has an epiphany and becomes Paul, but he's as zealous as before. thing is that he still couldn't get rid of his own Jewish roots, so he starts putting limits on Christians that Jesus never had intended. . .

for my own self, it seems to me that the purity of a religion is diluted, altered, and butchered by the geosocial circumstances in which it's expressed. it seems to be a greater indicator of religious differences than the underlying belief.

It's a very common misunderstanding that people have… about science having to do something with being an atheist. It does not. If I did not know how magnets work, that would not equal “god did it” in my head. I have no idea how the universe came about, but that means I don't know – that does not mean “therefore there is a Creator”. Don't confuse science with atheism because they have nothing to do with each other.

i see you don’t know much religious history. the concept of of the Chosen or Master race is endemic to many past and present religions.

also, in many societies, the only name they were known by was usually translated as ‘The People’ or ‘The Human Beings’. this implied other groups weren’t.

  • http://www.dandyid.org/id/okami okami

i could be wrong, but nope. . .not the Gnostic documents, not as far as i know. somehow, the Coptic Christians of Egypt were able to hold out and preserve their texts. there were enclaves of Christianity in Western and Central Asia, and they were able to hold out also.

in Egypt, at least, many of the texts were buried in the desert or hidden in caves. for about 13-15 centuries, all Europe and the West knew of other Christianities was from their enemies and detractors.

now, in medieval times, manuscripts of classical Greeks or Romans were preserved and translated. they were not disseminated, however, to my knowledge; the Muslim Empire of the time kept science alive, as well as doing a good bit of original work of their own, spread throughout the empire. this, of course, ended when the Muslim Empire reached the same point as the Chinese Empire, and apparently the same point as the present United States:

they thought they knew everything, and no one could teach them anything else.

from that point, both Chinese and Muslim Empires declined. it’s the current prevailing attitude in this country.

i would love to know if the Celts–or any Christian group–held copies of the Gnostic texts; but since they’d been held as heretical since 320 AD, at least, it seems highly improbable.

but me, i admit i’m ignorant. i don’t know, and i’d love to be corrected by facts. i’ve just never come upon them. sorry.

i agree; it's a false argument. but it's one that some religious groups have used for over 100 years now. . .really, maybe since the 16th century. it remains a fact that many of the world's greatest scientists, past and present, have had a faith or religion, and were in no way atheistic by fiat. there is a spectrum of belief and unbelief among scientists, and a spectrum of trust and distrusts among religious leaders.

the problem's with the small number of both sides of the isle, which end up acting like spoilt brats.

please, not near a mosque. Muslims respect, love and revere the figures of the Bible, including Jesus.

  • http://friendfeed.com/okami okami

one qualification, please: not the 'belief' in Jesus, so much as the nature of Jesus.

Jesus is loved and revered among Muslims as a prophet. Some among the Shia have a belief in the Second Coming as well. They just don't believe he's the Son of God.

Turning Jesus into a God was one of the things finalized at the Council of Nicea under the Roman Emperor Constantine.

However, labels are labels. they are there for classification, and they don't necessarily describe the truth of the matter.

Guatama Siddhartha meant Buddhism to be a way in which there would be no gods and no demons. it was meant to be a way to escape rebirth through doing good and doing away with desire, seen as the root of evil. however, as the years passed, some proponents of Buddhism made him a God, as the Council of Nicea did with Jesus.

now, in respect to Islam. . .they follow the Commandments better than Christians, at least in not depicting human forms in art. this type of idolatrous behavior has been condoned by virtually every Christian sect over the years; the Vatican, the masterpieces of da Vinci and Michaelangelo are good examples.

Mohammed is considered the LAST of the prophets by their believers. however, he is held in such high regard by Muslims that some are ready to kill if they believe he has been slighted in the least, even in jest. their behavior towards Mohammed is much like those who worship Jesus (instead of God) and of those who worship the Amida Buddha.

if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck. it would appear that, for at least some Muslims, no matter what they say about the matter, their behavior shows that Mohammed is being worshipped as a God.

we are familiar with the excesses of the Judaeo-Christian-Muslim tradition, sometimes to the detriment of our knowledge of other faiths and cultures. Book-burning, while probably most prevalent in our tradition, is not exclusive to it. Asoka (third century BC) carried on a massive witch hunt and Inquisition among Buddhism in India, including the burning of books and the destruction of temples. Monks and others took many sacred texts and buried them in hidden places, such as the Himalayas.

(It should be noted that some have been discovered. one is 'The Tibetan Book Of The Dead', which has been translated into current languages, including English.)

this is much like the Gnostic Scriptures protected by Coptic Egyptian Christians, or the Gnostic texts hidden and buried from Catholic destruction (such as the 'Gospel of Judas' and the Nag Hammadi Library).

In Japan, after taking power as the Shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu closed off the country to all gaijin (foreigners), which included the Christian religion. among other things, churches and books were burned. if Christianity was not renounced, the verdict was death. hidden enclaves of believers were executed whenever found. the Tokugawa Shogunate was merciless towards Christianity throughout its rule.

it's an unfortunate fact that we create God in our own image. that's not a very respectable one.

    Acts 19:19, to be precise:

“Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all MEN: and they counted the price of them, and found IT fifty thousand PIECES of silver.” (King James Version, Holman Publishers)

(capitalized words should really be italicized; no italics button here.)

as you can see, the words 'curious arts' can lend themselves to all types of definition, including magic, science, and the books of other cultures and religions.

whereas this book burning was done voluntarily by converts to Christianity, however, subsequent ones were forced on others, or performed as a political/religious statement..

    Two things:
    1. If you illiterate morons would have the basic brain capacity to open a copy of the Qur’an (best you do this BEFORE you throw it into the fire!) up to the inside of the cover or first couple of pages or so, you’d see there is a license issued by the monarchy of Saudi Arabia that officially recognizes this particular copy of the Qur’an as legal for religious use. Licenses cost money (Since Saudi Arabia is the steward of the holy sites at Mecca and Medina, how else are they going to run them?), so the publishers must pay the licensing fee in order to legally sell them, which means the publisher must include in the cost to print them to his buyers. Unless you stole those copies of the Qur’an (thus breaking the law here) or you’re burning photocopies of the text (which is kind of lame), you bunch of fools just added to the coffers of one of the most repressive regimes on this planet that you label as evil. You smell something burning? Oh, it’s you, because you just got BURNED!!!
    2. Don’t you idiots DARE make light of how blasphemous other faiths are! I’ll bet my left arm you jerks made burnt offerings of stuffed Uga’s to your lionized idol named Tim Tebow every day and night! If you didn’t, you sure as heck thought about it! In medieval Europe, you’d burn at the stake for even HINTING at such idolatrous talk! But hey, burn away with those books as long as it’s on your property. That’s right, the same kind of right that that Islamic cultural center in Manhattan can be built, because it’s on their PRI-VATE PROP-ER-TY!!!

When it comes to bullshit, big-time, major league bullshit, you have to stand in awe of the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims, religion. No contest. No contest. Religion. Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told. Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there’s an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever ’til the end of time!

But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He’s all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can’t handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bullshit story. Holy Shit!

But I want you to know something, this is sincere, I want you to know, when it comes to believing in God, I really tried. I really, really tried. I tried to believe that there is a God, who created each of us in His own image and likeness, loves us very much, and keeps a close eye on things. I really tried to believe that, but I gotta tell you, the longer you live, the more you look around, the more you realize, something is fucked up.

Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed. Results like these do not belong on the résumé of a Supreme Being. This is the kind of shit you’d expect from an office temp with a bad attitude. And just between you and me, in any decently-run universe, this guy would’ve been out on his all-powerful ass a long time ago. And by the way, I say “this guy”, because I firmly believe, looking at these results, that if there is a God, it has to be a man.

No woman could or would ever fuck things up like this. So, if there is a God, I think most reasonable people might agree that he’s at least incompetent, and maybe, just maybe, doesn’t give a shit. Doesn’t give a shit, which I admire in a person, and which would explain a lot of these bad results.

So rather than be just another mindless religious robot, mindlessly and aimlessly and blindly believing that all of this is in the hands of some spooky incompetent father figure who doesn’t give a shit, I decided to look around for something else to worship. Something I could really count on.

And immediately, I thought of the sun. Happened like that. Overnight I became a sun-worshipper. Well, not overnight, you can’t see the sun at night. But first thing the next morning, I became a sun-worshipper. Several reasons. First of all, I can see the sun, okay? Unlike some other gods I could mention, I can actually see the sun. I’m big on that. If I can see something, I don’t know, it kind of helps the credibility along, you know? So everyday I can see the sun, as it gives me everything I need; heat, light, food, flowers in the park, reflections on the lake, an occasional skin cancer, but hey. At least there are no crucifixions, and we’re not setting people on fire simply because they don’t agree with us.

Sun worship is fairly simple. There’s no mystery, no miracles, no pageantry, no one asks for money, there are no songs to learn, and we don’t have a special building where we all gather once a week to compare clothing. And the best thing about the sun, it never tells me I’m unworthy. Doesn’t tell me I’m a bad person who needs to be saved. Hasn’t said an unkind word. Treats me fine. So, I worship the sun. But, I don’t pray to the sun. Know why? I wouldn’t presume on our friendship. It’s not polite.

I’ve often thought people treat God rather rudely, don’t you? Asking trillions and trillions of prayers every day. Asking and pleading and begging for favors. Do this, gimme that, I need a new car, I want a better job. And most of this praying takes place on Sunday His day off. It’s not nice. And it’s no way to treat a friend.

But people do pray, and they pray for a lot of different things, you know, your sister needs an operation on her crotch, your brother was arrested for defecating in a mall. But most of all, you’d really like to fuck that hot little redhead down at the convenience store. You know, the one with the eyepatch and the clubfoot? Can you pray for that? I think you’d have to. And I say, fine. Pray for anything you want. Pray for anything, but what about the Divine Plan?

Remember that? The Divine Plan. Long time ago, God made a Divine Plan. Gave it a lot of thought, decided it was a good plan, put it into practice. And for billions and billions of years, the Divine Plan has been doing just fine. Now, you come along, and pray for something. Well suppose the thing you want isn’t in God’s Divine Plan? What do you want Him to do? Change His plan? Just for you? Doesn’t it seem a little arrogant? It’s a Divine Plan. What’s the use of being God if every run-down shmuck with a two-dollar prayerbook can come along and fuck up Your Plan?

And here’s something else, another problem you might have: Suppose your prayers aren’t answered. What do you say? “Well, it’s God’s will.” “Thy Will Be Done.” Fine, but if it’s God’s will, and He’s going to do what He wants to anyway, why the fuck bother praying in the first place? Seems like a big waste of time to me! Couldn’t you just skip the praying part and go right to His Will? It’s all very confusing.

So to get around a lot of this, I decided to worship the sun. But, as I said, I don’t pray to the sun. You know who I pray to? Joe Pesci. Two reasons: First of all, I think he’s a good actor, okay? To me, that counts. Second, he looks like a guy who can get things done. Joe Pesci doesn’t fuck around. In fact, Joe Pesci came through on a couple of things that God was having trouble with.

For years I asked God to do something about my noisy neighbor with the barking dog, Joe Pesci straightened that cocksucker out with one visit. It’s amazing what you can accomplish with a simple baseball bat.

So I’ve been praying to Joe for about a year now. And I noticed something. I noticed that all the prayers I used to offer to God, and all the prayers I now offer to Joe Pesci, are being answered at about the same 50% rate. Half the time I get what I want, half the time I don’t. Same as God, 50-50. Same as the four-leaf clover and the horseshoe, the wishing well and the rabbit’s foot, same as the Mojo Man, same as the Voodoo Lady who tells you your fortune by squeezing the goat’s testicles, it’s all the same: 50-50. So just pick your superstition, sit back, make a wish, and enjoy yourself.

And for those of you who look to The Bible for moral lessons and literary qualities, I might suggest a couple of other stories for you. You might want to look at the Three Little Pigs, that’s a good one. Has a nice happy ending, I’m sure you’ll like that. Then there’s Little Red Riding Hood, although it does have that X-rated part where the Big Bad Wolf actually eats the grandmother. Which I didn’t care for, by the way. And finally, I’ve always drawn a great deal of moral comfort from Humpty Dumpty. The part I like the best? “All the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty back together again.” That’s because there is no Humpty Dumpty, and there is no God. None, not one, no God, never was.

In fact, I’m gonna put it this way. If there is a God, may he strike this audience dead! See? Nothing happened. Nothing happened? Everybody’s okay? All right, tell you what, I’ll raise the stakes a little bit. If there is a God, may he strike me dead. See? Nothing happened, oh, wait, I’ve got a little cramp in my leg. And my balls hurt. Plus, I’m blind. I’m blind, oh, now I’m okay again, must have been Joe Pesci, huh? God Bless Joe Pesci. Thank you all very much. Joe Bless You!

Hello there. You bring up many interesting points, some of which myself and other Christians have pondered. Because we know that God is omnipotent and loving, it becomes very tempting to hold Him accountable. However, we must not forget that Satan is the ruler of this world and that he often tempts people into sin. Christians listen to God and are able to better resist the temptations of Satan, but Satan is easily able to deceive and tempt non-Christians into sin.

Along with that, if God was to end all war, violence, hatred, and crime in the world, He would have to take away our free will. God certainly isn’t responsible for all of the war, violence, hatred, and crime in the world. People are responsible, and Satan also deserves part of the blame because he lies and tempts us into sin. This man-made suffering does not come from God. LOVE comes from God (1 John 4:17).

Refer to the article below for extra clarification.

    http://www.gotquestions.org/Satan-god-world.html

With regards to prayer, it is very selfish of us to ask for things that benefit only us. Along with that, I don’t think that God determines every single detail of our lives. If I trip while walking down the stairs, God is not responsible. However, He IS capable of healing me and of using my mishap for His glory and my benefit. For example, if God had healed me from my injury, I could tell other people of God’s power and willingness to help me. They in turn would be interested in getting to know Jesus on a personal level.

However, if He didn’t answer my prayers, that is alright. I know that He will still use that struggle for my benefit. He can teach me how to suffer, help me mature my faith, help me grow as a person, and empower me to empathize with others who suffer. We often learn more through during times of hardship than we do during times of ease.

You had brought up the existence of hell. Hell was initially prepared for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). Unfortunately, the devil often deceives and influences people, to the point where he has some power over their lives and partially determines where they end up. God does not send people to hell for fun. His goal is to SAVE the world (John 3:17). He wants everyone to get into Heaven (2 Peter 3:9), which is which He invites everyone through His Son Jesus. Whether or not we accept that invitation is up to us.

I agree with you that religion can be nonsense. That is why I do not believe in just any religion just for the point of having a belief system. Rather, I place my trust in Jesus because He has proven that He is very honest and knowledgeable and that He has only the best of intentions for humanity.

We should not have to force ourselves to believe in God. Rather, we must merely ask the Father to reveal His Son to us, just as He did for Peter (Matthew 16:17).

On a different note, I must say that I did gain from reading the article you posted. It prompted me to review Bible verses and understand Scripture better.

    God bless!

How ironic that the name of the church is Dove World Outreach Center!
In Christianity the dove is the symbol of peace, the Holy Spirit of God. I know that God does not approve of actions based on hatred and disrespect.
What exactly is this stupid pastor trying to prove? He is only showing his ignorance, and hiding behind the walls of his church to practice his own hatred and disrespect towards other people, and other faiths. We need to love one another, and tolerate, respect, help.
How would we as Christians feel if people of other faiths burned our Bible?
How ignorant it is to proclaim that Islam is of the devil! Hatred, disrespect and destruction are not part of the Christian faith, and should not be harbored in a church. Shame on you!

CHURCH PROPHESIES (Burning the Holy Quran on 9/11):
A terrible announcement of burning the Holy Quran on 9/11 shows the worst mentality of stupid Terry Jones. The attack of September 11, 2001 was a criminal attempt of some unidentified people. Everybody on Muslim world condemned that act. Everybody knows that it was the act of some individuals hired by Moosad. This was not an act from any Islamic institution. Form the decision of Quran burning the message comes that Church prophesies is to attack other faiths when you are in power.
Now let’s see what is in Quran. Quran is a true history and witness of all previous Holy Prophets including Holy Jesus and his holy mother Mariam. There is a detailed chapter in Holy Quran about the birth, youth and preaching of Holy Jesus.
Now, if that stupid burns Holy Quran, that means he burns Holy Jesus’s truth, respect and dignity. No Muslim would like to burn Holy Bible, but that church or that stupid do. Not only this criminal Terry, also the sponsors will cause for the horrified consequences for all human beings because, when some people deny, disregard, or insult the holy verses of God, they are punished.
God bless everybody with the wisdom and truth.

Let’s do all tis talking after Sept 11, can we guyz.. we can cros the bridge when we come to it!

  • Moonbear602

So, in other words, you and the people you choose are the only ones in the world who have a right to be in this country? Why punish All for the sins of the Few? What if this country decided all Black people should be sent back to Africa; what if Jews were no longer welcome (Jesus was a Jew)….who gives you the right to play God???

  • Moonbear602

Yes – burn – burn the Bible in protest! Yeah! That’s what I’m going to do Sat. 9/11 – and I’m a Christian! But Jesus said “Those without sin may cast the first stone.” I’m a sinner – but apparently you aren’t……………………………..

  • Moonbear602

I agree. Why punish All for the sins of the Few? Isn’t there enough hate in the world already?

  • Moonbear602

I wonder, how do you feel about Germans & Jews? (Jesus was a Jew) Hitler was German. Let’s see, who’s left? Oh, Blacks, Baptists, Buddists, only to name a few of the (hundred)…. I am an American and a Christian. I am not Muslim, but there are many Muslims in America (American citizens) who are law-abiding, nice people. How can anyone single out a race or religion? They are ignorant.

  • Moonbear602

Okay. Then burn your bible and your place of worship afterwards.

  • Moonbear602

Yes; and all Christians should burn their bibles……………I’m burning one in protest. I bet you’re too narrow-minded to understand that this is a democracy……Not all Muslims are bad people. Just the ones who caused 9/11

  • Brian Renfroe

this is the worst idea ever. when i was in iraq in 03′ these guys knew we where on to them about to raid their house. so they would lay korans in the door way so when we came in we would step on them with out seeing them. over there they have the right to kill you if you disrespect the koran. and geuss what, if we let this burning go through the muslims in the states will be unleashed and also put american soldiers in more danger than they already are. islam is blood thirsty religion and this will be the trigger to set them off. if you love your family and your home. go and buy a few guns to defend yourself and your family. these people will start cutting heads off and this administration and all of these dope smoking hippies will say “it’s ok, they where offended”

  • Srgentred

This people are untrained cowards, let them start shit. I served too and my boys and I put way more Hajis down, then they got of us. The better fighting force will prevail, killing one or two soldiers here and there is not a strategic victory, they don’t hold strategic points, they have no idea how to prepare a successful assault and are terribly untrained. The kill ratio is ridiculous for every soldier the muzzies get, it cost them at least twenty men, you cant win any conflict that way.

  • Rocknwroll

I am not a Muslim. I am an American and I would hope that this proposed step back into the Dark Ages would be viewed by state and federal authorities as a terrorist act, in violation of US Code and the Patriot act, designed to intimidate and coerce Muslims who are US citizens and incite other acts of terrorism in the United States. Hopefully this group will be dealt with appropriately.

  • Mansack

so many people speak of Islam and have a opinion, well I have read the Koran and the Hadith and it is EVIL. It specifically calls for Muslims to wage jihad on anyone who is not a Muslim. The things we witness Muslims doing everyday in the name of God, killing and fighting is commanded in the Koran.

So many bleeding hearts in the USA, those preaching political correctness are the true enemy’s and deceivers of reality. I hope the church goes through with their plan to Burn the unholy book of the Koran.

  • Dragonslayer

The only reason I will be burning a koran is there are no muslim houses around here.

  • Bardakcian

i m an orthodox armenian from turkey… the bible, torah and koran says respect others, what they choose for themselves…

  • Krouse777

I am a Christian minister and as conservative as they come. Church people who burn books of other faiths do not represent Christianity in my opinion. It sounds like a misintepretation of Acts 19:19. People in the early church decided to burn their own books and idols after turning to Christ. They burned the items they worshipped in order to demonstrate spiritual separation from their former belief system . They did not burn books to shown their disdain towards people of other faith. Where is the love of Christ?! True Christians who walk in the love and power of Christ will draw people to Christ through their message and lifestyle. I pray that it rains hard on that day!

Where is the love of Christ?!

  • Joe

this shouldn’t be an issue if Islam is really a religion of peace and tolerance LOL

  • American Patriot

Kathryn it is also un-American to turn the other cheek to those that wish to kill us.. So why your turning your cheek, just remember someones son and daughter, is wearing the uniform is some God foresaking Muslim country where there is no law but sharia, who if it came here would deny you as a woman the constitutional rights that you are granted… I will never turn the other cheek to those people, and I not only hate muslims I hate any religion or culture that infringes on my right to live as I chose..

  • Devoneco

Burning of Religious Books is nothing new – at least not in the Middle East. In 2008 Jews in Israel burned hundreds of Bibles they had forcefully collected from Christians and Messianic Jews in Or-Yehuda a city near Tel Aviv – and nothing happened. Christians are being harassed frequently in Israel – check the following websites :

I am flying overseas on Sept 11. I don’t need a moron like this pastor or morons who call themselves religious to put me in harms way. this is a sad commentary on America, all the good so many Americans are doing overseas will be lost because of this retarded act. Innocent Americans will be targets, this pastor is a MORON

  • Lbrunelli

Islam is not a religion, it is a cult. It has no place in society. Why is anyone protesting the burning of copies of the Koran on 9/11 in rememberence of the fallen. The atrocity that was perpatraited on the American people needs to always be remembered…..ALWAYS ! This protest is symbolic and physically hurts no one….but it will be a satisfying action. ….Remember, no one is being killed from this end. My God does not approve of killing another human being…My God is not a Muslim

  • Obamasalier

this terry jones guy is a LOONEY…. just lock him up in the nut house & let him preach till kingdom come while lying strapped to the bed & looking up @ the ceiling!!! i just hope he doesn’t get a sniper shot between the eyes before they throw him in the nut house…..

  • Ja

I’m muslim and my god does not approve of killing another human being either…you people got it all wrong. Your minds are messed up and you need help. People who would burn a holy book of any religion are not people, they’re evil. Obviously this pastor has lost his mind, and needs to be arrested and put in jail.

  • Jakkiblu

I am a Christian, and regardless of the difference in beliefs, no holy book should ever be burned. It may not be holy to us, but it is to them, and this is the ultimate insult. Live and let live. Jesus would oppose this 100%. This is not treating your neighbor with love and kindness,…it is asking for another attack on our soil. …Don’t burn their holy books. Its just wrong, and so unGodly.

  • realist

    islam is evil

hold on there buddy didn’t the holy crusaders in the past also did the same thing? Didn’t they punish all of the non believers of God so maybe the koran was never rewritten their holy book is just as important to them as the Christian/Catholic bible everyone made mistakes fighting is still going through this Holy War Catholic and Christians use to impale the non believers and burn their bodies everyone makes mistakes we are only human we can only love eachother and by burning this Koran will only cause the act of the devil… We must hold to our true faith and “forgive them for they know not what they do…” Miles Coverdale’s Version Luke 23:34,1535

  • indonesian

I ‘m an Indonesian, here burning bible or qur’an is a crime so do burning church, people will get jailed if doing so,
I dont understand US law, but this will be endanger minority christian in other country, if moslem react on this, they will not burn bible but the church, the risk are same, get jailed. If this action done by 500 people or more, no prison will be received them…
I hope this stupid action will never happened.

It is apparent that few know what liberty and freedom actually are. When you limit freedom of expression you limit debate and dissent. When Muslims burn the American flag I never hear from moderate Muslims saying that this is intolerant or incites retaliation.

As Americans we have the right to burn the Koran because we are not yet ruled by Sharia law, and I’ve hear that it is un-America to burn a Koran, but it is your constitutional right to do so.

What happens when Muslims are offended by our uncovered woman? Will we force our women to wear burkas because we fear retaliation? Since when do we enact policy (implicitly or explicitly) out of fear of religious fanatics?

Don’t tell me that this is hate speech because the preacher is not inciting anyone to violence unlike the Imams who preach violence all the time. We have our own religious fanatics – tolerance works both ways not just to your benefit.

  • indonesian

yes, there is freedom there about burning holy book, other country law can’t do anything about it, but this not only about america, this are two world largest religion we talking about, and the fellow of the religion not only in america, i hope ur brain capacity able to understand this. Jones will push the first domino on the show and when moslem at other country start to react, may be in bad way, than Jones happily say “see..? we had reveal the actual Islam.”
Why do people think that moslem will force sharia law in non moslem country, that is impossible…i live in indonesia, do you think more than 200 million people here were forced to embrace islam by saudi soldier or something? its ridiculous, I have see in a mosque a man come to an imam for convert to islam, the imam ask the reason of the man, he said that he embrace islam because he want to marry moslem girl, imam ask the man to go home and study islam first before convert..so actually islam doesn’t need people to embrace, but people need islam as way of life, not only a daily ritual.
This burning action will not push moslem convert to christian but christian will more eager to know about islam and study it.

Please study quran rather than burn it

  • Mosquito

No need to study it, saying that islam doesn’t “need” people to embrace is useless and doesn’t fit the topic.
Let’s talk about the Danish flags burned for just a drawing. Let’s talk about muslim politic “mosques in wester countries but NO churches in islamic countries”.
Let’s talk about jihad. Let’s talk about the “killing of infidels”.

    Just apologize for 3000 deaths.

  • chrissy

Why should anyone have to tip toe around Muslims? They burn Bibles and American flags. If you don’t believe that the Quran or the the Bible is holy scripture why does the burning of both bother anyone. Freedom of speech is still freedom of speech!

  • Mansack

Once one reads the Koran and studies Islamic law it becomes clear they are Evil.

This is what the Koran commands or you are not a good Muslim.

“Seek out your enemies relentlessly.” (Surah 4:103-)
“Fighting is obligatory for you, much as you dislike it.” (Surah 2:216)
“The only true faith in God’s sight is Islam.” (Surah 3:19)

Believers, do not make friends with any but your own people…They desire nothing but your ruin….You believe in the entire Book…When they meet you they say: ‘We, too, are believers.’ But when alone, they bite their finger-tips with rage.” (Surah 3:118, 119)

“Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends.” (Surah 5:51)
“Fight against such as those to whom the Scriptures were given [Jews and Christians]…until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued.” (Surah 9:27-)

Their is much more but I think you get the point. we call it a war on terror because we are weak and bound by political correctness but they are at war with all non Muslims, their belief commands it and their actions confirm it. Wake up America

  • Mellisaschofield

I dare those people of the Dove world Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida to even burn a page of the HOLY QURAN.Of all the stories you have heard of what happened to the people of Gomola and Sodoma, you will have a first-class seat to the wrath of the Almighty Allah.remember, Its He who knows whats in your deepest of hearts and closest to you than your life vein.surely there has to be some reckoning in that for the likes of those.

  • Mansack

LMAO, if Muslims are Gods holy people then why does God punish you so? According to the Koran God will punish those who are not just, why do most Muslims suffer so much, think about that, lol.

America has the right to burn the Koran because it’s a constitutional right? It’s the Muslim right to build a mosque at ground zero.
    Is it about constitutional rights?
America is starting to appear to the world to be very intolerant people.
I am not Muslim. I was raised Christian. But this sort of think, as does the Phelps church in Kansas, who pickets the graves of American Soldiers makes me ashamed.
I may burn a bible on 9/11 to show my contempt and disgust for this action.

This weekend as a billion people finish Ramadan and celebrate Eid in Mekkah, the largest single event of faithful, peaceful people in the world along with the billions of people all over the world who are celebrating Eid, the distaste for this event will be especially bad. The date for Eid changes by about 28 days each year so this year the Dove Church’s decision to pick this anniversary suggests planning to commit such an egregious event.
On 9/11/2001 America was attacked by Al Qaeda.
On 9/11/2010 what will be the legacy? That America attacked Muslims?
    That Christians attacked Muslims?
It will not be that this insignificant Gainesville cult attacked Muslims.

  • Amq5

I am a ‘proper’ muslim at heart, and i have never been more offended, i always used to think dont hate america, be as strong as america, but after reading this i have to say yes hate america, for you dont respect no bodys beliefs and dont listen to logic.
I would like to appologise for the death of all those who were killed on 9/11, as a muslim i believe that killing one innocent person is the killing of the whole humanity, and i dont know how these people who call them selves muslims go out and kill so many innocent. how will they justify themselves is boyond me.
Please world understand that muslims love their religion to the core of their heart. Even the thought of burning a quran puts shivers in my spine and make my head spinning, Burning a flag is not the same as burning bible, and then burning bible is not the same as burning Quran.
No other culture puts their religion as closely to them selves as muslims. you make movies on your religion with funny themes etc, i went to see Harold and kumar 2 and got offended by the song “dicks like Jesus” but my cristian friends were laughing, what does this song mean any way, i can qoute a few more examples but i guess my point is made. is that your sense of humor?
Picking out random sentences from Quran and then “prooving” your point that all muslims are terrorists is appalling, and it tells me a lot about you as a person.
Stop offending muslims like me, stop it. I would love to say similar bad things about christinity, but unfortunately being a muslim i belive in Jesus as a prophet of God and Bible to be a Holly Book, and cannot say bad things about Jesus or burning bible, as its one of the pillars of my religion.
Let us live, dont get too active in destroying us, you wont succeed, so make your peace. We are here and we are not going to stop believing on our religion no matter what. As far as the terrorist are concerned, no matter what they say their actions are not Islamic, Muslims fight in battle ground, and that is Jehad, fighting for the survival of country or religion in the “even of War”, not just killing anytime you please.
Get your heads right, you are americans you are supposed to be more litterate then us, atleast you clame to be, like wise you claim to be fair and just. stop making fun of our religion, you dont have the right.

  • Hjbkbk

are you that naive that you believe 14 hijackers with box cutters caused 9/11? dam your stupid, read the facts! 9/11 was an inside job pure and simple, I suppose you agree that Muslims defied the laws of physics by downing 3 skyscrapers with 2 planes.

  • RandyZMD

Allah is God you tool. Of course there is jurisdiction.

More than 3000 Muslims have been killed by Al Queda in the past 16 years, many by suicide bombers.

Unfortunately, Indonesia, this will probably happen.

Thankfully a number of the members of this Dove “Church” have left it.

The leaders and remaining members of the Dove “church” are the money changers in the Temple. The very people that Christ threw out. The Dove “church” has used American taxpayer exemptions to operate a for-profile business reselling goods on E-Bay. They want the Caesars gold.

They are so entrenched with the devil, they are blind.

    The battle lines are drawn.

On one side is evil incarnate. Pals of a criminal who befittingly threaten to kill if an animate object – that criminal’s written confession to a life of unabated mass murder, hedonism, perversion, thievery, and deceit – is used for kindling.

Befittingly also is the fact that these devils don’t need and have never needed an excuse to attack. They, the human manifestations of this devil’s religion, have one goal in mind – to conquer and enslave the whole world through any means necessary into the soulless, brainless, inanimate group “think” sprouting from the seedpod that is Islam.

This is a war. Normal rules don’t apply.

  • El Grande

Hey, get over it. You guys (Muslims) constantly destroy the holy books, artifacts and places of worship of other religions. Not to mention the violence perpetrated on the believers of other faiths.

So it looks like the Koran and its followers cannot withstand one human with fire.

Mr. Jones is defending the Constitution of United States by burning the Koran. If Sharia Law is allowed to be applied in the US, that’s the end of the Constitution of the US.

Wake up America! Islam, Koran and Sharia Law are the worst enemies of the USA.

Burning the Koran is the defending of the Constitution of the USA, period.

  • jim bob

Now we can really flush out the terrorist Mudslam vermin. Time for a turkey shoot. By the wayt, this is freedom of speech just as burning the American flag in America. For those who are offended, don’t watch. No hard feelings. As a goodwill gesture, lets invite the Mudslam neighbors over for a friendly visit while we roast some weenies and drink beer. Now that would be a good Christian and neighborly thing to do. BYOB and don’t forget the pork ribs and tater salad. Somehow I don’t think they would accept the invite, but hey, you tried.

Islam is violent, praying to the moon and rock, barbaric Shariah Law and is for the denizens of deserts. Please take the Koran and Islam back to the deserts.

We don’t want the retarded Islam in a civilized world like in the USA and any part of the civilized world.

Islam is a universal problem that can only be solved by confining Islam with the boundaries of the deserts, else problem, problem, nothing but problem everywhere!

  • RANDYZMD

Keith. You also have the right to remain silent. Exercise that right.

  • jim bob

As a good Muslim, bring these terrorist animals in. These are your misguided Muslim brothers as your people claim. If you and yours are law abiding then why are they still using your mosques? Expose them. Show people with deeds not words. The self-declared pastor burning Qurans is xcercising his American right to free speech on American soil and don’t your forget that fact. If you don’t like, then don’t watch or pay him any mind. He will melt away, without publicity. Understand that not every act a person does has religious meaning or significance. Some people just want attention for their cause. In America we have the right to ignore them and not be so easily offended, especially if you have enough faith in your own beliefs.

  • RANDYZMD

You remember the fallen by performing a symbolic act of intolerance?
You would probably be the guy holding the torch to burn the Salem Witches in Salem.
Rush to judgement. Ignore facts. Persecute what you don’t know.

  • jim bob

Unfortunately for Indonesia it’s not America where we have the right to legal free speech. You don’t have to like our rights and many Americans could care less if you like that fact. Once you live and feel the freedom that is still America, that millions have risked their lives to achieve, you would never look back. How about this – Mind your own business and let America worry about it’s freedoms! Live as your governemnt dictates but don’t tell Americans how to live on their own soil!

  • Stormy4245

  • jim bob

Don’t give the guy any publicity because that is what he wants. There are too many other more important issues to tackle then some guy burning books, which is completely legal and protected under the Constitution. Self-proclaimed pastors are just that. He has the freedom to legally worship as he sees fit and people have the legal right to follow his teachings, rants, or whatever. You apparently take for granted your right to freedom of worship and legal free speech. Don’t deny his right as that is slippery slope. Ignore him and tend to your flock as a “christian minister.”

  • jim bob

Here’s a solution – Don’t give the guy any publicity and ignore him. If he did this quietly in a burn barrel in his back yard, who would care. Don’t get your knickers in a twist over some guy excercising his legal right to protest and free speech. Geez don’t so thin-skinned as there many other more important issues in the world then some self-proclamed pastor seeking attention for himself.

  • jim bob

Now that’s a healthy “American” attitude. Enjoy the freedom to legally express yourself. Burn a bible, Quran or even condoms. You have that right in America. Unfortunately, too many Americans take that right for granted. While your at it, burn an effigy or your least favorite imam or politcal leader and maybe a flag or two. Enjoy your rights as an American, assuming your American on American soil. Otherwise, forget the above and do and think what your government says as well as that so-called holy book. Peace to you.

  • RANDYZMD

Very informed statement. Caesar represented the a corrupt state. Caesar was a deviant, he participated in orgies with both men and women, he was a pedophile, he enslaved men, he murdered those who stood in his way politically.
    What a Patriot.

  • jim bob

…and in America you can do that by respecting the rights of others to legally express themselves. No one says you have to listen or believe. Yes, in America that right still exists, so never loose sight of that fact and never take it for granted.

about being civilized, ok maybe most of Muslim world are not civilized but that only how Moslems have been for the past few centuries and for now .. when Islam came Europe was in its darkest time and Islamic regions were very advances with science ..
Algebra, finding about the number Zero and Ibn Siena’s medical books made revolution in medicine in Europe when it was translated to romaine ..

I’m saying all this for one point: do not judge Islam by some people and by its status now.. if u want to understand Islam look at its old accomplishes ..
“Such days (of varying fortunes) We give to men and men by turns” 140 Ali ‘Imran

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HMSFMMJYZJYOPLPSUEEY6E5DDE _-_ [Remee c

Few phrases from the quran .. the quran that some western *sadly* think it advice terror:

“Such days (of varying fortunes) We give to men and men by turns” 140 Ali ‘Imran
‘And do good. Truly Allah loves the good-doers.’ (Surat-al-Baqarah (2), ayah 195)
“ Verily, Allah enjoins justice and Righteous deeds” (Surat-an-Nahl (16), ayah 90)
“But if they incline to peace, (those who were before attacking you), you also incline to it, and (put your) trust in Allah. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower”
    (8:61).
“And walk not on the earth with conceit and arrogance…”(17:37)

“And kill not anyone whose killing Allah has foridden, except for a just cause (ie, murder)..” (17:33)

“O you who believe! Enter not houses other than your own, until you have asked permission and greeted with peace those in them…” (24:27)

these are the words of quran, so forget about what u see in the media. it only represent minority of Muslims who actually do not read quran or do not understand it

Burning a mosque may be a bit much. But how about every Quran we cannot burn is every mosque that isn’t built. For every time a person is prevented from exercising his/her right to legal free speech, due to some Islamic/Muslim/Sharia law, is one more removal of mosque to prevent free worship of Islam.

  • jim bob

Well Tim. You obviously don’t believe in legal free speech or freedom to worship. Terry Jones has a right to legally express himself, just as you and everyone else has the right to ignore him. Don’t get so upset over this guy. He wants the publicity and your little website is giving him what he craves – attention. If you ignore the guy he will melt away. If he was burning books in a barrel no one would care, but he couldn’t keep it to himself and he’s getting the reaction he wanted. Assuming your a Christian, why don’t you spend your time being one. If your not, then let nature take its course.

  • RANDYZMD

“Since then we killed millions…” Stand up and take your place next to Pol Pot and declare yourself the American Khmer Rouge.

We must be careful to avoid barbaric laws. Like the use of dogs to rape prisoners of war at abu ghraib. A true human rights victory and a icon of the civilized world.

  • jim bob

America – The land of legal free speech and right to worship the god of your choice. Hold on to it and don’t deprive others of it. These are rights that are a sacred as any holy book. With these rights, you can freely enjoy the writings of your “holy” texts and not live in the fear that millions now live in countries that are so-called friends of America. If you don’t like what someone is preaching you have the right to ignore them. In America, the government doesn’t tell you who or what to worship, yet. Don’t make this book burning issue into a religious one because it isn’t. It’s an issue of American’s right to legal free speech. If he was burn to the books in a barrel, who would care? He wants the attention, so don’t give it to him. Besides, don’t take offense so easily, ignore him. Many other issues in this country deserve our attention. How about homelessness or jobs, the economy deserve or attention, not some religious fanatic nitwit. America is better than that.

You twist the facts to suit the image you want to portray. Yes those things were said by Mohamed and he was peaceful the first 10 or 12 yrs but he spent the later 12 or more yrs waging war and saying stuff like this “Slay them wherever you find them…Idolatry is worse than carnage…Fight against them until idolatry is no more and God’s religion reigns supreme.” (Surah 2:190-) , “Fighting is obligatory for you, much as you dislike it.” (Surah 2:216) , “Seek out your enemies relentlessly.” (Surah 4:103-) , Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends.” (Surah 5:51) , “Fight against such as those to whom the Scriptures were given [Jews and Christians]…until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued.” (Surah 9:27-)

So lets be clear as your prophet aged he grew more violent and his power grew he spilled more blood not less, He was a vile evil man, def not peaceful. Muslims say the believe in the hole book and their is just one so if you live by Mohamed’s example then you become a killer and a en-slaver to anyone who does not convert.

America see Islam for what it is research the life of Mohamed, read the Koran and the Hadith, he will look more like a antichrist then a prophet.

Limitations to freedom of speech may follow the “harm principle” or the “offense principle”, for example in the case of pornography or “hate speech”.[31] Limitations to freedom of speech may occur through legal sanction or social disapprobation, or both.[32]

Freedom of speech and expression has a long history that predates modern international human rights instruments. In Islamic ethics, freedom of speech was first declared in the Rashidun period by the caliph Umar in the 7th century AD.

Just look at those Islamic counties like Indonesia, Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia…. there is no democracy but desert law.

Non-Muslims are third and fourth class in these Islamic countries, now they want to turn America into an Islamic state.

If you don’t like the burning of Koran on America land, can always go back to the deserts and if somebody is burning the Koran on Arab land, can behead him/her on your desert land.

Meanwhile, if you are still on American land, just watch and shut up!

The Bedouins fro desert look funny with their long gowns, ugly and filthy beards and tower heads. If you want to come to America to live, leave your desert stuffs and Koran in the deserts.

Now that you are here on American Land, you not only bringing and using your desert stuffs and Koran, but you want the American people to use your retarded and awkward stuffs and Koran from the desert here on American land.

This just shows that the Bedouins’ culture from the desert is uncivilized. If you can’t follow the American culture, please go back to the desert! There is no room for retarded Bedouin here on America land.

Islam is about peace and forgiveness, if someone does hit you can only hit back with less than or equal to the same amount of force which you were struck. We have no way of knowing how much force we can hit with so it’s always better to forgive.

Islam is evil. That’s why they can’t withstand the fire that burns it to hell.

Yes! There will be no democracy and human rights on America land.

Islam wants to be the muddler of the Constitution of USA.

Burn the Koran on American soil before it destroys the Constitution of the USA.

Kick the Bedouins, Islam and Koran back to the desert, they don’t belong here on

Jesus would have forgiven. As for what GOd would have done, only He knows the answer.

For all you pseudo-Christians who think you have a moral or theological right to burn the holy book of another faith or slander it as you will, try to remember this:

    —————————————————————————————————————————–

Matthew 7:1-5 “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

    —————————————————————————————————————————-

Fix your own personal and spiritual issues first, as well as those of your faith, before you even begin to think about condemning the faith of another.

Would there be this upcry over “Mein Kampf.”?

    No difference.

Both books are the ravings of an extremely dangerous lunatic. That there may be some statements of selfless ethics in the Koran is totally negated by the monumental thrust of the book that to be like Muhammed is to attack the world with a bloodlust after the infidels don’t submit after a warning.

Also, I find the government’s interference in this man’s plans extremely dangerous, a direct violation of rights to free speech. The intent of which is obviosuly to blame Islam murders in the aftermath on this man rather than failed government policies.

If the plan is to refrain from “provoking” the lunatic’s followers, then that is direct apposition to the policies of the government It should stay the heck out of the MIddle East.

Killings of course will follow in the aftermath regardless and totally irrespective of his actions or the government’s actions.

CAN GOOD MUSLIMS BE GOOD AMERICANS?
Theologically – no. . . . Because your allegiance is to Allah,
Religiously – no.. . . Because no other religion is accepted except Islam 2:256
Scripturally – no. . . Because of allegiance to the five Pillars of Islam
Geographically – no …Because of allegiance is to Mecca , to which you bow in prayer to 5 times a day.
Socially – no. . .Because Allegiance to Islam forbids a Moslem to make friends with Christians or Jews .
Politically – no.. . . Because he must submit to the mullahs, who preach annihilation of Israel and destruction of America , the great Satan
Domestically – no. .. .Because he is instructed to marry four Women and beat and scourge them if they disobey him (Koran 4:34 )
Intellectually – no. Because he cannot accept the American Constitution since it is based on Biblical principles and he believes the Bible to be corrupt.
Philosophically – no. . . ..Because Islam, Muhammad, and the koran do not allow freedom of religion or expression. Democracy and Islam cannot co-exist.
Spiritually – no.. . . Because when we declare ‘one nation under God,’ The Christian’s God is loving and kind, while Allah is NEVER referred to as Heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in the Koran’s 99 “excellent” names.

  • RANDYZMD

So this lunatic, Jones, with the Done scam-cult has ramped up his psychopathic rhetoric and shown that he is no doing this for conviction. He’s starved for attention. He has shown it’s not a religious conviction. He has loved getting calls from all over asking and begging him to not do what he has threatened. He said today that he would cancel the event because the Imam in NYC agreed to move the Ground Zero mosque and that he could meet with the Imam on Sept 11 in NYC. He never spoke with the Imam. He spoke with a local Imam and clearly showed his lack of any brain when he didn’t know it was Imam and not I Man. He didn’t know the name of the Florida Imam who he spent 2 days speaking with. I think he’s hoping to hold his act as a potential hostage to get what he wants in the future.
I like some of the suggestions I’ve read. Since he wants attention from the Government, the IRS should start a 7 year tax audit of him and his cult and publicize it, and whatever prosecution that might come of it. Florida should also have building inspections to be sure his cult HQ and Ebay shop meet code. The zoning for his cult HQ should be reviewed for whether it is permitted to run a business from it. Tax exemptions as a religious facility should be paid back as it was used as a for profit business. Since Florida law bans outdoor bonfires the fire department should be there to hose the fire and him down as soon as the match is struck.

I would love to see him going to NYC and do something that is of an escalated legal issue because he crosses state lines and that he is arrested. If there was anyway possible for the US to practice extreme rendition on his and ship him over to Afghanistan for questioning, that would be great. I really don’t care if they question him. Leave the door to his cell unlocked so he can escape into greater Afghanistan where he can carry his bag of Koran’s and a box of matches.

The KKK also claimed that burning crosses was Constitutionally protected as free speech, but that was not true and was voted against 5-4 by the Supreme Court. He should be served with a warning so that if he goes forward he will know that he would be prosecuted if he does proceed.
He is not concerned at all that his actions would possible post a threat to the US Military, or Missionaries because they chose to be where they are. Is he as willing to serve time for his beliefs. Or, is he such a hypocrite that if the outcome of his actions carry a potential for a negative result for him is he as likely to be so “principled?”

Under the Patriot Act, if his internet can be tapped it should be. If the content he sends is a violation of his internet carriers contract he should be disconnected. If there is anyway that EBay and PayPal can terminate his accounts or refuse to do further business with him, they should. And business owner who can legally refuse him service should do that. Gas stations, groceries, whatever is possible.

In all, I’d like to see him inconvenienced until we can find a way to make him serve hard time.

  • Joe Sarangon

I’m starting to despise every religion, as it seems it is still a good way to manipulate people and only brings hatred, showing how stupid the masses can be.

But, in any case, to implicitly associate the US with christianity is a mistake. There is a vast of different beliefs in this lands. There are 4 million muslims in the US (well, that’s not very much).

  • Hr

You are wasting fuel, a good match and a heck of a lot of oxygen. Don’t waste your time either. Also, you are wasting valuable youtube storage space and internet bandwidth. Islam is a waste and the koran is a waste of paper. Use it as toilet tissue if you have to.

Mohamed was a thief, assassin and a pedophile polygamist who had some form of mental illness, which is why he had those “visions” of that devil called “allah” (lower case on purpose) and wrote about it in that blasphemous book called the koran.

He is misguided but not anti-christian. Muslims are anti-christian and also anti-everyone. You should go preach the gospel to the islamic infidels that infest the world. You may get some conversions also, if they don’t chop your head off first.

You muslims are a bunch of hypocrites. You were celebrating when the towers went down on 9/11. Saw you dancing on the Jersey side of the river. Your so called “religion” is nothing but a bunch of rantings written by a demon possessed pedophile who liked to kill and rob people for a living. It is a political form of government disguised as a religion. Nothing in those “satanic verses” is worth reading. Burning it is a waste. I’d use it as toilet paper.

Who is under the Christian pastor mask? Pro-Israeli man who wants to bring into war Christians and Muslims for the benefit of Israel! and after that say that Muslims are aggressive or “pro-Islamists”. Why now? Because after so-called Turkish case and cash humanitarian aid for the first time people of the world could make them to feel responsibility for all their criminal actions always excused by “anti-semit moods” and “aggressive terrorist -Muslims”! He is Jewish – don`t be angry with Christians, Christ didn`t teach this and he would never do this!!!

Must have been the giant tumor in his brain that made him violent and have those “visions” of raping little girls and burning villages. Funny that the prophecies in the koran are the exact opposite of what is written in Revelation in the Bible. Anti-Christian koran? 100% sure. Their god is the devil and their phophet is the antiChrist.

Ashtiani, a woman in iran, represented by prominent human-rights lawyer Mohammad Mostafaei, has failed in her appeals. AOL reports that a panel may convene as soon as Saturday to decide her fate. According to Amnesty International, the Iranian penal code specifies that “stones are large enough to cause pain, but not so large as to kill the victim immediately.” Article 102 of the Penal Code states that men should be buried up to their waists and women up to their breasts for the purpose of execution by stoning. Article 104 states, with reference to the penalty for adultery, that the stones used should “not be large enough to kill the person by one or two strikes; nor should they be so small that they could not be defined as stones.” Iran executed 388 people last year, mostly by hanging, leaving it second only to China in the number of people put to death, according to Amnesty International.

Ashtiani’s family has launched an international appeal to save her, and human-rights campaigners claim that at least two other women also face execution by stoning. One of them, arrested at 15 years old, has reportedly even been subject to a mock stoning. It may only be a matter of days until the real thing begins.

  • The truth is in the bible

Just to pull things into view for moment… These are the people you are defending,,They will hang and Stone and burn you alive, for a typical sin of nature. Jesus said let him who is with out sin cast the first stone. He also said I came for mercy not judgement. But the Islamic demons are here for judgement not mercy, Satin is pissed off and wants to kill as many of us as he can , he does that through each other. those who will be fooled, and believe the lie.
Live by the sword then die by the sword, that is what the yeshua Meshia said when they came to arrest him

Muslim have been lied to by a great lying spirit fortold in the scriptures, they who loved the lie would recieve the lie. and they have,
See they are preparing to stone a mother of two, who probally is so tired of this evil nation of islam.
Islam is going down. and they know it.

Many people have been quoting the Quran out of context in an effort to show that Islam promotes violence. A recent op-ed piece by Cal Thomas is a high profile example.

This is pure nonsense. Thomas and others doing this are taking selected passages and reading them completely out of context to support whatever argument they wish to make. I can do the same thing with the Bible.

Here are some choice passages from the KJV Bible which when read in isolation makes the Bible appear to be a primer for evil:

    1) In Leviticus 25:44-46, the Lord tells the Israelites it’s OK to own slaves, provided they are strangers or heathens.

    2) In Samuel 15:2-3, the Lord orders Saul to kill all the Amalekite men, women and infants.

    3) In Exodus 15:3, the Bible tells us the Lord is a man of war.

    4) In Numbers 31, the Lord tells Moses to kill all the Midianites, sparing only the virgins.

    5) In Deuteronomy 13:6-16, the Lord instructs Israel to kill anyone who worships a different god or who worships the Lord differently.

    6) In Mark 7:9, Jesus is critical of the Jews for not killing their disobedient children as prescribed by Old Testament law.

    7) In Luke 19:22-27, Jesus orders killed anyone who refuses to be ruled by him.

Context is important, of course, and many of these seeming cruelties disappear when read as such. However, this would not stop a Christian terrorist from interpreting the Bible in a manner necessary to concoct a religious justification for unspeakable horrors, as Pope Urban II did, for example, when he preached the First Crusade in 1095 or as many American preachers did when they used Leviticus to defend slavery.

Political and religious extremists have abused Islamic, Jewish, or Christian scriptures continuously throughout history. …a man who claims to be Christian, would do well to learn something of his own faith s scriptures and history before accusing Islam s Quran of promoting violence.

Muslims are a curse on the earth. They have the right to burn American flags & effigies of American Presidents even though they receive thousands of dollars in aid on various pretexts from America; force European women to cover their heads when they are in the Muslim countries though may be they are there on humanitarian mission; and now so much of talks when a Christian clergyman wants to burn the Koran in his own country.
Life of America soldiers are at risk in Afghanistan is not a pretext to be intimidated by them. The troops & all the humanitarian convoys should be called back. Muslim countries cannot be taught democracy in a day. There is no single Muslim county where they have a democratic constitution. Democracy cannot be forced on any one it’s a slow process.
So much blood has been shed in the two world wars to gain the democracy. Then who says it’s perfect. There are thousands of poor in America & in Europe who are without shelter & medical aid. I think Americans & the westerns are loosing their identity. Before the Second World War they would create great massacre to win over the population & now they cannot defend their own nation from terrorism of the Muslims in their own county. Now it’s high time we reflect.
I am an Indian, from the country of Buddha & Gandhi. I believe in peace & non violence. The best way is to boycott them. Don’t give them jobs, rent the houses, don’t visit their counties for any reason. No mosque should be allowed to be built in a Christian country.

sorry Mr Anjana, I disagree with you.
Moslems never act before. we just react from west action… you may say if American soldiers (or west) who got killed in warfare is very poor.. i agree with that. but what your opinion if your children got killed, your mother and wife got raped and killed by that soldiers. Jihad Islam not to make world fear but only to defend ourselves. just think clearly…read our Al Qur’an before you judge… i think Gandhi will never agree with your opinion above. Regards

  • Indrafardhani

I agree with you… I am moslem, i life in Indonesia, i have many Cristian friends, and we life in peace… but not with Israel.. they’re threat for worldpeace

I understand that Muslims believe that any form of translation of their holy book or even copies published in Arabic are not considered as the “Quoran”. So why all this fuss by the media? Who cares about any threats by this KKK looking moron from a tiny church located in some godforsaken place in Florida that has less than 50 other morons in its congregation? Thanks to all the media attention this bankrupt idiot who calls himself a pastor has managed to get from this entire episode, he will now undoubtedly be able to mass another 50 similar morons to his church. So, let him burn all these books that he has managed to collect and feel great – just ignore him. After all, morons come in so many shapes, sizes, colors, etc – and with funny mustaches too. Remember the guy from Germany during the second world war?

  • DEVONECO

There’s no “Good Muslim” or “Bad Muslim” – just as there’s no “Good Christian” or “Bad Christian”, “Good Jew” or “Bad Jew”,etc. Either you are a Christian, Muslim, Jew or Buddhist or whatever – ONLY IF YOU FOLLOW THE FAITH AS PREACHED BY ITS PROPHETS – and if you have religious tolerance and respect for others’ faiths and are able to coexist together in a civilized society. This is not the first time any religious books have been burnt. In 2008, extremist Jews from Or-Yehuda – a city near Tel Aviv in Israel – forcefully collected Bibles from Christians and Messianic Jews and burnt them in a bonfire. But hardly anyone from the Christian world even protested or condemned that act. Just ignore these morons who resort to these kind of unsavory tactics – for they are the Devil’s people.

Everyone recognizes an abusive marriage, one where the wife is scared to put on lipstick because her husband will beat her if she does. Its her fault for provoking him. If she didn’t wear the lipstick, if she didn’t act that way, well..then he wouldn’t have had to beat her. But we’re not recognizing it here, that the world is beginning to tiptoe on eggshells as if there were an angry abusive drunk sleeping it off in the next room.
Whether or not radical muslims feel they have a reason to be angry at the US, they hold this country in the palm of their aggression. We now may not exercise our rights as US citizens, behave as US citizens, or they will kill us.
If someone burns their book, they won’t retaliate by burning a flag or the bible as you would rationally expect; instead, they will kill us.
If someone draws their prophet in a cartoon, they won’t retaliate with drawing Jesus in a funny hat as a normal person would. Instead, they will kill us.
The fact that many people are following this train of thought as logical or rational, and are accepting of it, is frightening. It is not the threat of a book-burning that is recently increasing islamophobia. The realization that a muslim will kill you over ink and paper is doing that entirely by itself.

It’s interesting how this one guy has had such an impact. I think it shows how fragile and vulnerable islam is to even the most minor challenge. I’d bet that people will learn from this and there’ll be a lot more koran trashing. There seem to be strong views on both sides but little intelligent debate. For intelligent, insightful comment, check out anything by Ayaan Hirsi Ali either in print or on the Internet.
