More and more Americans preparing for social unrest

survivalist More and more Americans preparing for social unrestFrom the outside, Jerry Erwin's home in the northwestern US state of Oregon is a nondescript house with a manicured front lawn and little to differentiate it from those of his neighbors.

But tucked away out of sight in his backyard are the signs of his preparations for doomsday, a catastrophic societal collapse that Erwin, 45, now believes is likely within his lifetime.

"I've got, under an awning, stacks of firewood, rain catching in barrels, I've got a shed with barbed concertina wire, like the military uses," he told AFP.

He and his wife also have also stockpiled thousands of rounds of ammunition and enough food for about six months.

"Several years ago I worked on paying off the house, replacing all the windows, and just very recently, I'm proud to say, we've replaced all our exterior doors with more energy-efficient ones, with as much built-in security features as I could get," he told AFP.

Story continues below...

"Plus I'm going to be adding some more structural improvements to the door frames to make it hopefully virtually impossible to take a battering ram to them."

Erwin and others like him in the United States and elsewhere see political upheaval and natural disasters as clear signs that civilization is doomed.

"We're hitting on all cylinders as far as symptoms that have led other great powers to decline or collapse: resource depletion, damage to the environment, climate change, those are the same things that affected other great societies," he said.

For Erwin, the decline is irreversible and the best approach is to prepare for the inevitable.

His pessimism is shared by a wide range of people, from left-wing environmentalists who believe climate change and capitalist greed will doom human society to Christian fundamentalists who think sin will do the same.

They label themselves "preppers," "doomers," and "survivalists," and take a variety of different approaches to the same question: How best to prepare for the coming apocalypse?

Jim Rawles, who Erwin describes as "the patron saint of survivalism," prefers an isolationist, Christian-influenced approach.

He homeschooled his children, declines to say where he lives, and advises readers of his website survivalblog.com to "relocate to a safe area and live there year-round."

"When planning your retreat house, think: medieval castle," he adds, extolling the benefits of using sandbags to protect any new home.

Rawles, like many on the most conservative end of the survivalist spectrum, is also anti-tax, pro-gun rights, and suspicious of anything that smacks of socialism.

But the survivalist movement also includes left-wing community activists, who are devoted to living off the land and have never fired a weapon, and people like Chris Martenson, who quit a job with a six-figure salary that he felt was "an unnecessary diversion from the real tasks at hand."

He began growing his own food and developed a "Crash Course" that urges people to better prepare for societal instability. He also took over management of his investments and boasts of a 166 percent return on his portfolio.

For Martenson, the wake-up call was the September 11, 2001 attacks, when he felt gripped by uncertainty and totally unprepared.

Erwin had always felt that society would eventually disintegrate, but he and many other US survivalists say the dysfunctional response to the 2005 Hurricane Katrina was what spurred them to action.

"I thought, okay, things are not going to get better... maybe this society, our civilization, the American empire, will collapse during my lifetime," Erwin said.

For John Milandred, no single event pushed him to leave his suburban home and set up a farm in Oklahoma.

"We just got fed up of working all the time to pay bills and not accomplishing anything," he said.

A member of the American Preppers Network, Milandred said he and his wife aspired to "grow our own foods and be self sufficient... to live like the pioneers, like our great-grandparents."

It is unclear how many people subscribe to the lifestyle, but there are hundreds of websites devoted to the movement, and Erwin's surburban-self-reliance.com attracts visitors from around the world.

The global financial crisis has increased interest in survivalism "bigtime," Erwin said, but he feels sorry for latecomers to the movement.

"We'll help them if we can," he said. "But a lot of people are climbing on board at the last minute and its going to be hard for them."

  1. American social climate certainly seems headed for collapse. Corruption on the wholesale, political deception, staggering national debt, craven leadership, and then there's all that interminable war. America staggers through our world like the drunken buffoon. With one shit load of heavy armaments. America is on an unsustainable path.
However, after a collapse, what would be left? Post-apocalyptic fantasy will surely NOT be like the harsh reality.

  2. are they prepared or paranoid? discuss.

  3. Not into doing the road warrior thingy. I'll grab me a bag of good weed, and a bottle of Jack. Then set my lawn chair up in the front row of were they set a nuke off. Catch a buzz and go out with a bang. It doesn't get any better than that.

  4. doggiedaddy

In The Simpson episode This Little Wiggy a leprechaun only Ralph can see, sit on his shoulder and tells dear sweet little Ralph to “Burn them. Burn them all”.

    Just sayin is all

  5. buckfutter

America would more likely experience a slow, painful death, not a quick exciting fireworks extravaganza. Look at the poverty and violence in Mexico right now. I doubt many are enjoying the show down there.

The sky is falling … the sky is falling !

  7. It would be great to see a less slanted cartoony take on this…but hey we all are deeply invested in the illusion that things can continue on…and on… and on. Any study of history or biology will tell you though that nothing is forever.

For people interested in building real community resilience take a look at the Transition Movement
    http://www.transitionus.org/

To imagine that we can keep on going in the direction we are going – or that the clowns in DC will get their act together to rationally address climate, peak oil etc …is a personal act of faith which rests entirely on ignoring all evidence to the contrary….That is after all what faith is – an act of ignoring the obvious in hopes of something more pretty being more real.

For those who respond to the BP oil disaster by changing the channel and hoping for the best… but making no assessment or change with regard to how your entire life is dependent on petroleum being cheap, abundant, subsidized and unregulated as it has been during your charmed lifetime – you have a problem which needs to be recognized.

“It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change. ” – usually misattributed to Darwin…we don't know who said it.

Wow he is really making a difference by showing people how to survive. All the while ensuring the downward spirals continuation through his portfolio investments.

  11. Genessender

Wanna bet Mr Milandred dies from the flu? Or maybe a roll of concertina wire falls on his head?

  12. DougI

You gotta prepare. When Clinton gets elected there is going to be a civil war and we need to stockpile. Oh wait….

When Y2K hits we need to be prepared for the disaster to follow. Oh wait….

Hold on, another Democrat is elected so he's going to take away our guns like Clinton did, better stockpile….

  13. MrCharm

George Bush gets elected: Woo-Hoo! Let's go have a beer and rejoice!

Barack Obama gets elected: DOOMSDAY is comin!

    Clear?

  14. JakeW83

They are preparing for social control.

  15. chrislib

The hippie preppers had better get themselves well-armed, or the right-wing, christian patriot wackos will take over their gardens. T-shirts with peace symbols are not bulletproof.

  16. Dolmance

Dumbest people on earth. And the dumbest of them are going to prison with the black people they helped incarcerate en masse where they'll learn how to make wine in a toilet.

    I'll just laugh.

  17. Dolmance

I'm trying to imagine how to make a Right Winger into a hat.

  18. Don't go stereotyping people and placing them in neat, conveniently labeled boxes. Not all Christian Patriots are “wackos”, just as not all hippies are long-haired, patchouli-wearing vegans who smoke pot. Stereotyping is the LAST thing this country needs right now. What we NEED is to unite together and figure out a way out of this mess.

  19. We knew damn well things were getting bad when Bush was in office, but now that the BP shit has hit the fan and Obama has shown himself to be as much a bald-faced liar as Bush, people can see much more clearly what is happening. Bush and Obama are EQUALLY culpable for what has happened to this once-great country. BOTH parties are CRAP and need to be taken out like last month's trash.

  20. Well, the sky may not be falling, but King Obama's approval rating sure as hell is. Anyone who doesn't see what's really going on needs to shut off the Boob Box and start interacting with some real human beings.

  21. gordonwagner

It's a shame that the audit of the Federal Reserve was quietly voted down — that would have been a good first step. Any central banking scheme benefits only the bankers who run it. While there is very little to praise Adolf Hitler for, he did put the shattered German economy on the gold standard and rebuilt it within a few years. Something to consider.

  22. hummm, interesting though a bit extreme, but all great things do come to an end, this is the nature of everything….

  23. No amount of guns and supplies will protect them from the feds and the mass raids that are coming. When martial law is declared no amount of firepower will stop the bombs from dropping.

So it's pointless. If social order collapses head for the border into Mexico or Canada, or help restore order by joining law enforcement.

  24. tazdelaney

with 25-30 million americans unemployed (10% still getting checks, 10% not), in a would-be workforce of 160 million… and obamabush last week saying that there are 8 million unemployed americans; lying as usual… in this grim decade, it has been a rare month when we created the 147,000 jobs necessary to cover just the new, young wannabe workers of the lost generation.

and while the only plausible way to put america to work after the wall street criminals sank the economy (we note that corporate profits are up 44%…), is via 1 milion small startup businessnesses… in the insipid stimulus package that gave milions in bush-style tax cuts to the comfy and $18 billion to new nuclear power plants and $19 billion to help the poor healthcare industry do the electronic health records project that they coul've paid for our of pocket change… not one penny went to the SBA for new small startup businesses. retarded corporatists who want all money to go to wars, torture, the rich.

so the fact is that we are heading towards full-fledged depression rapidly. by year's end, 1/3 of americans will be on food stamps, dispossessed, declaring bankruptcy, going homeless. a french study in 1989 showed that revolutions don't occur until 15% of a public are going destitute. hey, we're there. time to start making the molotov cocktails!

the warmageddonists are full tilt rabid. the corporatists are eating workers and mother nature is almost history. anyone who doesn't feel apocalyptic is blind, deaf and dumb. but no survivalism or blackwater militia training is going to help. this is going to explode like an outhouse with a grenade. and good riddance to bad rubbish.

homo sapiens is 170,000+ years from its bushman beginnings. in caesar's day there were half a bilion. in 1900, 1 bilion. i was watching the popclock in 1999 when it passed 6 billlion 20 years ahead of the UN's schedule and in 2011, it will hit 7 billion. bucky fuller said that with good, visionary management, spaceship earth could sustainably handle 10 billion people. seen any good management round heah lately?

duck&tuck, folks, we're in for a bumpy ride, and the leftwing less prepared than the right. but, hopefully, at the end of 2012 or so, we'll have it back down to 1.5 billion without eugenics and perhaps ma nature will make it after all.

  25. Theres generally two options for sane people who plan to stay in America during civil unrest.

    1. Join the military and fight.
    2. Join law enforcement and fight.

No matter what you join you'll be fighting, so why not join the best armed best trained force?

  26. The way out is to become either a soldier, cop, or prison guard. The way to lose is to become a criminal, militia member, or cult member.

  27. tazdelaney

are you nuts? join the cops and help kill and suppress the revolt that so urgently needs to occur? what. show me a man in uniform and i'll show you a fascist doberman for the status quo. let the rich dig for a sandwich in a dumpster for a change.

  28. tazdelaney

you'll laugh when the food riots hit and the martial law increases. you'll laugh when the chemtrailing of sedatives starts.

  29. felixthecatxxxx

If a collapse occurs, the ruralites will become the serfs of the more populous urbanites. They will grow our food for us, provide us with farmer's daughters, and can look forward to nothing more than the morrow's labor.

  30. Dolmance

We went through this before I believe. It was called the Civil War. The hysterical religious fanatics (just like the ones today) and the slave owners and the assorted crackpots thought the war would be over in a couple of weeks, because fighting those 'librul type Yankees were all a bunch of wimps, but of course they got their heads handed to them on a plate because crackpots are ultimately incapable of discipline.

Let them form their militias and go into full sedition mode. There won't even be a war. They'll just get arrested and put in prison. Because when it all comes down to it, they're just a bunch of sore losers who had this stupid idea that they were the only real Americans in America.

  31. Dolmance

You take a lot of sedatives, bunky? Against your will?

    Of course you do.

  32. Look at Mexico, and thats what it would look like.

  33. lilyannrose

Can't say any of this surprises me. My issue is that if the big IT ever did hit the fan I would want to be anywhere near these paranoid and hard assed people.

  34. moxaman

Ben… you've hit the nail on the head. BOTH parties are guilty of treason, BOTH are full of traitors to the Constitution and rule of law, and BOTH need to be taught a good lesson. Bush and now Obama work for the same masters, the Rothschild banking cartel, the NWO, and their neocon/neofascist friends in corporate society. We The People are “useless eaters” to them (a la Henry Kissinger, one of the original neocons). It will take a full fledged revolution, but we can change America, we can become the democratic republic that our founding fathers envisioned.

  35. Westcoastliberal

This guy isn't nuts, he's preparing for what may be inevitable unless decisive action is taken by our government right now. I'm afraid it may be as bad as that depicted in the CBS TV series “Jericho” which was taken off-air despite good ratings and an outcry from viewers. Essentially we're a hairsbreath away from such a scenario; it could come down in a lot of ways. To get ready, check our theautomaticearth, George Ure's site and Mike Ruppert's collapsenet. The people who are aware of the dangerous times we live in may just be the ones to make it through what may be on it's way. I hope I'm wrong… Obama seems to be a pawn of big money; we need to end the useless wars, reverse private companies from supplying service/goods to the military, shrink the military budget like a hemorroid and start a credit jubilee. All the big Wall Sters and Banksters should be required to fund a pool like the BP disaster and everyone who's business has tanked or is out of work should be entitled to a sum depending on how large their loss was (going back to late 2007 when this all started.) That's what should happen IMHO; but it never will.

  36. MikeinTokyoRogers

Anyone who thinks this guy is crazy has been keeping their eyes closed while at the same time watching too much TV.

I envy those who have been able to get away and become self-sufficient

  37. mindboggeling

It seems counterproductive for these people to drop out of society and devote their lives to living outside the norm. Rather than running from the problems in our society why don't they try and solve the problems to make America better and stronger. Running away from problems isn't making them go away it's just delaying them.

  38. tazdelaney

a man in uniform always backs the hitler. scumbags suppressing and oppressing citizenry. pigs taser grandmas and kill little girls in pot raids. precinct houses and armories, military bases and intel centers should be the first places hit hard, wiped out. put em out of commission. hackers should become heroes. erase the banks and corporations; erase the governments. take out the trash before it takes you out. the coming upheaval will be our last chance to end militarism, fascism, corporatism and salvage nature. those who stand in the way of this are traitors to life, liberty.

the real terrorists call me a terrorist. they'd say the same of jefferson or franklin, danton or che.

  39. GringaInMexico

There are 1 million U.S. citizens living in Mexico. I am one of them. Things are not as dire as you think, especially in the interior and for those not engaged in the drug trade or law enforcement. I am confident that things are not as wacky as the wackos would like in the U.S. either. Many people need a better perspective. It has always been such.

  40. 911truthguy

Spoken like a true “fascist thug wannabe”.

  41. dennycrane

Right….you think fat ass americans can budge from their big screens, gas guzzling tanks, fast food, sugar drinks, exercise their diabetic kids, save up on oxygen tanks, use a gun without pinching their fat hands. Ha ha ha ha. America drinks and goes home. Did lohan go to jail? Wow, james went to miami.

  42. I wish I was as prepared as Erwin. If things get bad he and his family will be some of the ones to survive.

  43. gerry1230

Actually survivalism is one of the best businesses to be in right now.

  44. mk47

Bravo to all those here who see and understand that the “culprits” sit on both sides of the aisle!
They answer to Big Biz! End of story! “We The People” are of no consequence to these elitist liars! Keep your eye on the ball. Don't get scammed by the sham of Political Theater!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_siH5wJTJ4E

  45. tazdelaney

not a sedative kinda guy at all. yuck.

  46. algionfriddo

The 'end' would be less likely to occur if there were less right wing nuts. Investing in ammo is just stupid.

  47. jsixis

these fools never understand, ain't no one going to break into your house.
Once the fire is hot enough you'll leave.

  48. gerry1230

There is nothing wrong with this country that can't be fixed. We are afraid and we want to run away because we know deep down that the solutions are going to hurt. We are all going to be effected and there is no way out. Better to be a participant in the great electoral battles to come than to sit on the side lines. We will go head to head and a consensus will emerge some day. And then when the people know what they want, the politicians will know what to do.

  49. gerry1230

That's my “asteroid to collide with earth” plan as well as my ” nuclear direct hit” scenario.

  50. theghostpony

One of the biggest dangers our country faces is from within – from selfish individuals who's only concern is for their own well being. That includes the Wackadoodles who hunker down in their bunkers waiting for doomsday instead of fighting to ensure a great future for those who will come after us, our children and grandchildren.

  51. Bahb2

What do you suggest we do? “Vote” our way out of it? How's that going to help when every last bastard that runs for office is a blackmailed, compromised, worthless piece of shit???

  52. Bahb2

    I'd rather die.

  53. Bahb2

Oh, like the audit would be truthful.

    You people kill me.

  54. Elim

When the shit hits the fan, I'd like to see these elitist assholes unable to escape. They should be forced to endure the societal breakdown with us.

  55. Elim

Because trying to solve the problems gets you labeled a teapartier, terrorist, fundamentalist, whackjob, and a whole host of other things that will ostracize you or put you in jail.

  56. gerry1230

When we are faced with the SHTF you better be good at reloading or making really good cross bows. Some day “they” are going to smell your smoke and come for your garden and livestock and you will be outnumbered. Come to think of it if you reload you still have to get the powder from somewhere. Geez I hate that Abovetopsecret discontinued the survival thread.

  57. damnadamzama

YES WE CAN! No seriously, we can. We have humanity resources – intellect and inventiveness. Eventually, we'll get sick of mindless drivel entertainment and other ulterior GMOdus Operani that the establishment feeds us. Somewhere deep down we have revolution in our genes. On a level higher and smarter than the industrial and American revolutions. We have to wake up and realize our potential, for it isn't merely enough to awaken and walk around in a slumber.

  58. I don't think there's a solution. There is just too much corruption and greed at the top, and too much ignorance and apathy down here.

I think the only way to be safe, if the shit does hit the fan, is to put as many miles between your family and “society” as you can. Some islands and other isolated locations are just too far away for it to be economically feasible for governments, or looters, to give a damn about.

  59. aviationfinance

In the event of a collapse, Felix, You Urbanites will be killing each other off like crazed rats. Most of you won't even make it out of the city alive. Gangs will run rampant. People killing each other for food & water. No food at the grocery store, what are you going to do? Don't expect a liesurely drive out to the country for your meals, cause that just won't happen. You won't have gasoline, food, safe water or possibly even electricity. If you don't make proper preperations, then you better buy yourself a gun with one bullet….

  60. NadePaulKuciGravMcKi

the only chance government has is to tell the truth
the only chance media has is to tell the truth

    expose the criminals
    expose the guilty

  61. When did a 'teapartier' get labled as a terrorist? Stop using hyperbole to make your point.

  62. lucky_2

Run for something yourself. Vote for candidates outside 2-party. Participate in some party to get pressure on a candidate.

  63. I would suggest you clean your own house first.
Are you living as green as possible? And are you helping your neighbors/friends to do so as well?
You can vote with your feet AND your dollars.
Just keep in mind that every little bit helps.
    Namaste!

  64. gerry1230

    So much for “security”.

  65. gerry1230

He's well prepared for a lot of things as we all should be, especially the six month food supply. But likely in the situation he is preparing for , he and his family will have to “bug out” at some point. No man and no family is an island. Even the pioneers had to go into “town” for supplies. We would do better to prepare our communities to survive.

  66. gerry1230

Might as well include “left wing” and “socialist”. We need everybodies input.

  67. turretman1st

one way to control some of the social unrest/ upheval. is to restart the state militia's, when most of the population is in the militia most of the problems can be controled.
one thing that keeps slipping by is what happens when the economy goes bust, dollar no longer good, think walmart, king soopers safewayect they are all corperations, if they fall which they would under these scenario's wheres groceries comming from ect.most area's have no locally grown food stocks.
do not even think that federal or state government using fed troops or national guard are going to keep any order when its every one for themselves.
militia is the only hope but had better be started now before shit hits the fan.
that may be why powers to be have been against the militia's they want sociaty to fall apart to where there would have to be foriegn troops in america to try to regain order.
if that happens do youy think that the constitution would be restored.,
THINK ABOUT ALL THIS BEFORE MAKING JOKES ABOUT THE ABOVE ARTICLE.

  68. gerry1230

Yes. By all means. Discuss, debate, be civil and then go vote until “they” listen.

  69. gerry1230

Yes. By all means. Discuss, debate, be civil and then go vote until “they” listen.

  70. gerry1230

Makes me wonder why dummies like us work for a living when it's so easy to start a survival racket and seperate so many people from their money.

  71. The Republican idiots vote morons like Reagan and Bush into office who undermine government, then these same idiots scream the government can't be trusted; all is doomed.

  72. The Republican idiots vote morons like Reagan and Bush into office who undermine government, then these same idiots scream the government can't be trusted; all is doomed.

  73. It surely gets better. . . just + women. :)

  74. Sorry, didn't recognize you. . . how long has it been?

  75. Is there an ignore feature?

  76. gerry1230

Yes we do have revolution in our genes and after that we have to govern once again.

  77. gerry1230

Order will be restored in the cities especially the ones with ports and airports before any place else. The boonies will become the new frontier. Cool if it suits you.

  78. gordonwagner

What? You don't think Congress would do a thorough job examining the
Fed? (trying hard to keep a straight face)

  79. damnadamzama

I liked your comment. Lately, it all seems so pointless at times, and at other times so purposeful. I just resort to comedy sometimes because it is all so asinine, the warped goings on and spinster nonsensical ramblings of 'Experts.'

  80. gerry1230

I know what you mean. Same here.

  81. Mujaku, color me not impressed by your “limited” view of the world.

I'm one of the millions who didn't vote for Bush or Obama or any of these scumbags in our lifetime.

I proudly voted for Ron Paul and elected statesmen to the house who can't be controlled by the hyper-ventilating AIPAC/Climate Change/Military Industrial Complex lobbies.

I'm very proud of what I've done, and would never have voted for an Obama or a Bush or a Huckabee if a gun had been turned on me. I know how belligerant and unhelpful that kind of action is, & I even raised money for Adam Kokesh, Paul Hackett and Jesse Ventura many of whom went on to raise the roof in Washington.

Creating the kind of changes that are needed for this country to even have a chance and they have been stirring the pot. I've been fighting the disease whether it was left or right for years, because in the end all that's an illusion and pathetic smokescreen.
    http://www.fija.org

We have one “Party” – the “War Party” including all their corrupt yes-men at either side. A collapse may well happen, and in the off chance it does before a third party wins power & abolishes the Fed, people need to know about it in the news so they are prepared for any and all various outcomes. Without information, many sail their boat blind.

  82. The sky is falling!!!! What a bunch of scared fucking pussies. I have been hearing this shit for most of my 40 years on this planet. I'm still waiting….

“There's many people in the world just like our Henny-Penny,
They panic when they listen to the news,
They think the sky is falling and we're all about to die,
I'd say they have the Henny-Penny-Blues.” – Lightnin' Hopkins

  83. sambarber

That guy in the story is…c r aaaaaaaaa z y!!!!!

  84. ggmom73

It always makes me wonder if, those who believe they are 'worthy' of being saved from any eventuality, are worth saving… There are those who arm themselves against themselves.

  85. There are always these kinds of nuts no matter what they think the final end will be. Most of these nuts never stop to think if the population wants what he has, they are going to get it.

What does it say for a civilization that thinks owning guns is their number one priority?

  86. jphwacheski

The failure of the current system is inevitable,. due to it being based on infinite growth on a finite world. It's peoples reactions to this information that are interesting. The system will not fail 'one day' but over a period of time,. although this could be a short time. planing for this,. creating and finding more sustainable sources of food, energy, and the simple things we need to live is wise. Stock pieling goods and buying guns, really just shows a selfish and frightend responce, people do not live individualy we are social creatures, and live in communities. Building community that is more resiliant, sustainable, and closer connected is a much stronger responce, a positive one that more people can get involved in.

  87. smallbear

    Typical defeatist attitude.

  88. That something bad is coming over the horizon is a plain as a wart on a prom queen's face. Increased ethnic diversity to divide and conquer. Illegal aliens that hate Americans in every state. The media encouraging interacial assaults by biased reporting while protecting illegal immigrants. The government sticking its nose in the affairs of foreign governments. It's coming folks. Prepare yourselves.Shiva, why don't you put a sign in front of your house informing those that drive by that you don't believe in guns or arming yourself. I promise not to come and drive them off when you are attcked. I will respect your wishes. That goes for the rest of you “gun control” freaks. Thomas Jefferson said, “Those that beat their guns into plow shares will soon find themselves plowing for someone else against their will.”

  89. MagnusTheDestroyer

Tell that to the guy that wants to steal everything you took time and effort to prepare because he didn't. That's why guns are a requirement.

We don't live in Mr. Roger's neighborhood. Grow up.

  90. MagnusTheDestroyer

What does it say when someone so obviously brain-addled as you is allowed to contribute your idiotic drivel to important conversations?

  91. MagnusTheDestroyer

The Democrats vote morons like Obama into office who undermine government, then these same idiots scream the government can't be trusted; all is doomed.

When are you going to stop playing the left/right game? You're a good little trained monkey.

  92. cowboy1011

Maybe their comet will come by and pick them up.

  93. chrisinva

Government profits during war and unrest, since (as Aristotle and Machiavelli agree), when forced to choose, people will take order over liberty. Government thrives on disorder. Fifty years ago the notion of a SWAT team invading houses of innocent people by “mistake,” and getting away with it, would have been unthinkable.

As our own lights go out, those who refuse to relinquish whatever liberty they have left will have to fight for it, each in his own way. The gentleman described has chosen his way. But FEMA has an alternative: camps in isolated spots in Idaho, New York, New Mexico, and other states have container-size housing for “victims of pandemics.” There's room for hundreds of thousands of “the sick.” Just like the Soviet Union's psychiatric hospitals, where lovers of freedom were sent for “treatment.”

To government, love of liberty is a pandemic. Think we're too educated and sophisticated for concentration camps? Consider Germany after World War One: it was the most educationally advanced country in the world. But the war had drained it dry. Look around your town (including in the jails). Do you really think that NO ONE there would volunteer to be a concentration camp guard?

War is the health of the state. Oh gosh, the US is in a couple of trillion-dollar wars, isn't it?

Move along, move along, nothing to see here.

  94. Stop it. Even though I agree with you, Shiva has just as much of a right to contribute to the conversation as you or I do. So, yes the 2nd ammendment is important but dont forget about the 1st!

  95. sparkey1

I bought a .22 cal rifle and pistol. I know that they won't do much damage, but the ammo is cheap and I have plenty of it. It will make a few holes. I will get a few of them before they get me. And, I am speaking of the New World Order police who will be roaming the streets after the dollar becomes worthless and the so-called UN takes control. Paranoid? Maybe. Maybe not.

  96. sarah3723

Fortunately the government knows where these idiots live when it's time to take them to the FEMA camps.

  97. felixthecatxxxx

There are more resources in an urban area. I live in a small urban town. The police mostly live here too. Order can and will be maintained here, allowing us to seize the isolated farms that surround us. We have more gasoline and other supplies than the rural areas. A farmer and his family, no matter how well-armed, will not be able to resist for long a heavily armed and trained urban force. Farm after farm will fall, and our serfs will labor to feed us.

It is not only the rural folk who are preparing for a collapse….

  99. Umm, Google the term: “nine meals from anarchy,”….

and really, you don't believe people are capable of robbing and killing for food (for their families/children) when the jails are overflowing with people who do it for lesser reasons?

You really need to read up on human psychology.

So you are saying the only people who are trying to change things are the tea partiers? That's just not true and it is even insulting since almost all tea partiers are republican and racist or belong to a gun toting militia. There is a reason the teabaggers are being made fun of. It's true some are trying to clean up their image and separate themselves from the extremes, but for the most part the teabaggers present themselves as uneducated and silly people who don't understand what they are talking about. Most just repeat sound bites from the gop. There are plenty of people who aren't wackos who want to try and do something for the betterment of this country. Who aren't media whores or part of dick army's fringe element.

Who owns the Federal Reserve? JEWS
Who controls our Foreign and now Domestic Policy? JEWS
Who pretended to be Arabs when they blew up the King David Hotel, the Levon Affair, the Berlin Disco bombing, the USS Liberty attack and the 9/11 Demolition? JEWS
Follow the little Jew Parasite from Russia to the Soviet Union–> from Germany to East Germany–> from Palestine to Gaza/West Bank –> and from America to AmeriKa. Its the Jew stupid. Wake Up.

  105. UserLoser

Good luck with that. The biggest reason I want the Teabaggers to do their revolt is so Obummer can unleash the Drones on them. As far as the stockpilers go the problem is that these things rarely co-operate on timing and I fear that people will be trying to eat a lot of bad food if it happens. Also if you really think the collapse is coming I would get a bow and lots of arrows as you can reuse them… And the whole gold thing you can't eat gold I've a suspicion that in event of social collapse the more possessions the more difficult to hold onto them you will have having them will attract trouble with a vengeance. It's good to dream but I would spend my efforts keeping society working because chaos is going to suck bad for everybody but the truly evil.

  106. UserLoser

The cops around here have these nifty gadgets that if they point it at your house the guns stand right out.

  107. The government has spy drones, gps, bombs, and a global military force from all around the world, they train people from third world countries who enlist in the US military and who can be used to crush any resistance militia you try and form. There is nothing you can do because you don't have the money, the weaponry, the man power, or the best minds as all the best minds typically side with the biggest richest army.

So what you'd have is a terrorist group not all that different from Al Qaeda. Or a mafia family. They'd crush you with wiretaps, fbi informants, and entrapments. You don't stand a chance and it's not a defeatist attitude, I'm basing it on history. How far did the italian mafia get? how far did the any of the mafias, gangs, militias get? What happened to the black panthers? The weathermen? any of these groups?

It's obvious. They don't exist anymore because every one of their members was killed or put in prison. Why? Because the government put bounties on their heads. Bounty hunters formed to take them dead or alive and collect the bounty. End of story.

How are you going to go up against the trillion dollar government budget and the bounty hunters, informants, and infinite amount of technology to track your every move from spy satellites to nano dust. You wont even be able to find 5 people you can trust, yet you believe you can form a resistance? You must be joking or you must be an agent provocateur. How much is the FBI paying you? Are you another Hal Turner?

  108. It's not a matter of wanting to be anything. If your goal is survival then you do anything to survive. If your goal is to die as a terrorist then go ahead. If your goal is to run then run and you might survive. What I'm saying is if you choose to become a terrorist you will face almost CERTAIN death, and time will not be on your side. This isn't the middle east, the government has spies everywhere, in every thing, and you never know which one of them will arrest you or take you out.

I don't know why anyone would advocate taking on the government. It's just stupid. It makes sense to advocate running to another government but thats about the only option you have that wont lead to certain death.

  109. If you'd rather die then you probably will die. Is it worth dying for though? You want to die for this?

  110. 2Q2Q4Q

    Sarah
Not all of us. Ever heard of face to face firearms purchase? Let me ask a simply question. If all the tribes in Africa and all the Jews in Europe had weapons, would there have been slavery or a Haulocost?

  111. Ok thats just ridiculous. Not every man in uniform is a pig. Granted some men in uniform are pigs.

You say hackers should become heroes? Who is going to protect them from the government? You? The fools who hack the government get targeted by the government and this government tortures, kills, and has no morals whatsoever.

This means if anybody stands in the way between the government achieving it's military objectives, those individuals will be neutralized by any means necessary.

  112. Guns wont stop the kinds of weapons which will be used. Whats a gun going to do to stop an RPG?

  113. 2Q2Q4Q

Better to have one and not need it, than to need one and not have it. I am not a “doomsdayer”. That said watch all the past riots and the one thing that sticks out is when the fit hits the shan the civil authorities pull back to a perimeter. Order finally gets restored, but if you and yours are in that perimeter????? I will venture that the do bads will skirt my house. Remember this “it hurts to get shot”!

  114. UserLoser

“Illegal aliens that hate Americans in every state” project much? The only America hating is on the I've got mine racist gun nuts part. You're average illegal is just a all American trying to get ahead and loves America more than most of the citizens they might be ignorant and crazy but American hating I doubt. Have you ever talked with an illegal? Have you ever thought what would make you go into another country at immense personal risk to make money? By the way with the technical know how I've a suspicion that guns will just attract more guns and bigger guns when the wheels fall off.

  115. marblex

    Fighting whom, exactly?

  116. marblex

WOW! I think you've hit on the solution!! Let's all kill each other!

  117. marblex

Once the elites start finding their grandkids swinging from lampposts, they will once again retreat into their shadowy world where having 95% of everything on earth is enough for them, instead of the 100$ they are presently shooting for.

It's an old tired scenario, been played a hundred times all over the world since time began. Greed kills.

  118. sharonsj

Just thought you'd like to know that not all survivalists are right-wing wackos. I am a liberal Democrat with a very high I.Q., and I'm positive that things will continue to get worse, not better. I bought my place in the country 20 years ago. I have a well, a creek, plenty of trees and wildlife, guns–and I learned how to can and preserve produce. Because of country living, I also learned how to prepare for different emergencies, how to survive without central heating, and certainly how to live on less. Plus I paid off my mortgage.

The result is that now I am better off than most of my friends, who are desperately trying to stay afloat. They either can't find work or cannot earn enough to pay expenses. We have had price inflation for two years now–from pet food to the electric bill–but the media has paid NO attention to that at all. The tanking economy is only a part of the problem; stock market speculation in commodities is the other. Have you forgotten when crude oil was $140 a barrel?

I do not expect Congress to help us because they are too busy bowing to their corporate masters. If we do have social unrest, could we please go after the hedge fund managers first…rather than shoot up a Jewish day care center? People are totally ignorant and have their priorities screwed up. Been drinking too much religious right-wing kool-aid, I think.

  119. michaelvalentine

    Freaking crazies.

  120. DownriverDem

Folks who buy into this crap, are a republican pary dream. You folks have been used for years and you continue to buy into the hate, fear and lies of the repubs. Be scared, be very scared. What a joke.

How sad for you. I am white, but I can't wait for all angry white men in the coutry to be in the minority. It's coming and I'm loving it. Life is too short for this point of you that hateful repubs have in their hearts. You will lose down the road (maybe not November), because demographics will bite you in the you know what.

So bunker down, and the rest of us will have to do the hard work and clean up after those with such sick views.

  121. UserLoser

Yes. Most of the slaves were war conquest they already failed the violence thing and if they were going to get you they did, Warsaw Uprising proves that, all resistance did was make them more brutal. Once a state has decided on a victim you are pretty much toast.

  122. iconoclasm

What an ignorant thing to say! Maybe the armed government thugs will take you and yours at the butt of a gun instead, huh?

  123. mudplanet

Why is it that these “survivalist” types always seem to disclose somewhere in an interview that they are distrustful of anything that smacks of socialism when, as near as I can tell, what they are suspicious of is government of any kind. They want to enjoy the benefits of a society (electricity, health care, good roads, technology to incorporate into their survivalist fantasies) while attempting to escape the risks those that participate in a cooperative venture must suffer.

There is a large National Guard facility right outside of town. When and if some “end of civilization” scenario happens (and I don't think it is) the folks that have access to the armory and cooperate to form a group (aka “a government”) are the ones that will be in control, and the idiots that think that by closing themselves off from the world in a castle somewhere with a rifle they are going to be safe are going down in a firestorm.

This theory can be tested at any time by boarding yourself up in your home and challenging the police. They show up with more guys and bigger and better guns, set your house on fire and shoot you as you come running out (e.g., the SLA and Waco). They win because they are organized and they cooperate and don't operate on an “everyman for himself” and “I don't trust on or rely on anyone else” philosophy.

  124. Another shock to the system could most certainly cause the unemployment rate to increase even more, and we could literally have millions out of work and living out of their cars and under bridges. The possibility exists like no other time since the Great Depression. Meanwhile, we need to keep out head on straight and be prepared to help bring about the change that is needed before it is too late (take back our country from corporations).

  125. Humans were once told that those of use who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Present degree of Socialism & speed with which the Federal Reserve (a private banking consortium) is running printing presses to create currency which has no backing (or real value) appears set to repeat social chaos of post WWI 1917 Germany. In one word – HYPERINFLATION ! Each day as I read & hear national news broadcasts not a comment can be seen about inflation. Personal observation of prices in national chains within past 12 months shows me inflation's alive & well. Communist China seems ready to load up on Gold bullion as it eschews buying/hold United States Debt instruments. The EU & its profligate governmental spenders (Greece & Spain) seem to be tip of an iceberg. Soon United States Government won't find takers of its debt instruments. When that happens I think we'll experience hyperinflation with social upheaval some people're preparing for. Though I'm not particularly old, I can't help nut think I'm fortunate to have lived most of my life before the pending turmoil. Thomas Jefferson made mention of the great experiment (United States Republic) when he said (paraphrased) It'll work until the voting populace realize they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury (read that TROUGH). Isn't that exactly what propelled Barak Hussein Obama [a man who refuses to present his original, long-form birth certificate to prove he was born within the United States] into residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? How's all that hope & change working for you? Let's hope 2010 mid-term elections work to invite recumbents to spend all of there time somewhere other than Washington, DC. And that the new Congress manages to repeal spending programs that'll propel this nation to the brink.

  126. iconoclasm

Why even put yourself in any political box? There's no difference btw the Donkey and the Elephant!

  128. iconoclasm

It is incomprehensible how brainwashed the “citizens” of this artificial entity the Founders dreamed up over 250 years ago have become. They actually believe the crap they have been indoctrinated through the government run indoctrination clinics (public schools) to support this behemoth war macine/law enforcement racket! The government will protect us? Yeah right from what? The enemies it creates out of thin air just like its money?

When will people open their blindered eyes and wake up to the reality that all governments want to do is EXPAND! Thats right, they DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU! All the Plutocrats that run our leaders care about government expansionism via creation of new laws to hem your asses in and to fill their coffers from the proceeds.

Ever hear of COG? Thats short for Contitnuity of Government. Google it! Read the legislation that they passed. It is for what is soon to come!

The government IS NOT your friend. Even George Washington (the scoundrel) said that when he said:

“Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”

  129. You act like white men are the only ones who are hateful and angry. Why are you so hateful of white men?

What races are always rioting and causing more violence statistically?
It doesn't matter if whites are only 1% of the population, you know the elites will always be whites just like now. Your faulty logic is painfully indicative of your racism. What race are you btw DownriverDem?

  130. Oh my bad, I didn't see there that you said you were white there but I could have guessed based on the simple fact that I never see any other race say stupid ass shit like that except whites.

Why don't you, Chris Mathews, Rachael Maddow, and Keith Olberman go start your race war. Hey guess what side you're gonna be on tho?

  131. I guess you think killing white people and white babies is just happy talk. Democrats are the KKK members, Democrats are the ones that used fire hoses and dogs on black Americans, democrats are the ones that want peace through mass murder, Hitler was a Democrat, Stalin was a Democrat.

  132. Are you serious? You are a fuckin Nazi straight out the 3rd reich.

    Fuck you bitch.

  133. Are you serious? I hope you rot in hell you vindictive fuck.

  134. UserLoser

Yes I am serious sedition should be punished. Stupidity shouldn't be rewarded. As far the hell thing I'm sharing the planet with you aren't I.

  135. You are completely wrong with your stupid generalizations about the tea party. Most are not racists or militia members. The majority is not republican either. The majority is Libertarian with Republicans and a healthy percentage of Liberals as well.

Who are these tea partiers who present themselves as uneducated and silly people who don't understand what they're talking about?

Dude it sounds like you watched Chris Mathews Rise of the New Right disgustingly biased propaganda piece and now you think you're an expert on the tea party movement.

Get the fuck out of the way trash we're taking our freedom back. You can give yours up if you want, but you can't give up ours.

  136. damnadamzama

No shit they're preparing. Stop making these people look like lone nuts. They buy seeds, stock water, purchase water filtration, stock food, and they have firearms. Many of them have a combination of what you would call “liberal” and “conservative” ideals. They don't believe in the war on drugs, big government, financial idiocy, taxes, etc. The depraved beasts that eviscerated this country's bowels, reached their hands in, and gutted $5 trillion in personal wealth are same the lunatics traipsing through the country undetected because people still place credence in the corporate media.

These survivalists or preppers are not nutso. They are libertarians, and they're going to seem really smart, really soon if shit keeps unraveling. ARE YOU GOING TO CALL THEM NAMES WHEN ONE OFFERS YOU FOOD IF YOU ARE STARVING? Probably not, because they will seem so much less like nutcase militia people hiding in Idaho's panhandle, and so much more

  137. You obviously aren't smart enough to comprehend that the tea party movement was founded because neither party represents us anymore. Both controlled parties are the same on all the major issues.
Useful idiots like you are a prime example of the results of the endless propaganda salvos upon the American people.
I resent being called a media whore “quoting GOP soundbites”

You call the tea party movement TEABAGGERS? Where'd you get that one from? Who's the media whore here parroting catch phrases and soundbytes? I think you'd be terrified to learn that the average tea party movement supporter knows the issues at hand 10x better than your brainwashed, hateful, propaganda spewing shill self.

  138. cliver1960

Oh my GOD!! History does repeat itself!! You pig from the past. I can see you read 'Mein Kamph' to learn how to read. What a sad, pathetic person you must be. To subscribe to such hate you must have an empty hole in your sense of self. That is what people look for when they find a boogy man to blame all their life's failings on. Get lost, or maybe lose your horrid, hate filled existence in a car crash or better yet die of cancer. You deserve it.

  139. Mindboggeling-ly judgemental, uninformed, & closed-minded parroting liberal sound bites.

  140. Dolmance

Paranoia is a disorder that afflicts fundamentally bad people. And you've got it bad.

  141. mindboggeling

Funny Rawstory just did an article about the republicans surveying the tea partiers and ya know what they found out? Majority were republicans. There was a small percentage that were dems. So I suggest you get your facts straight, Perhaps you should check your facts before you make stupid generalizations. Who are the people who present themselves as stupid? How about the yokels holding up racists signs or demanding to see Obama's birth certificate. How about the crazies who want the government to keep their hands off their medicare? Or the loonies who follow sara palen and actually believe there are death panels written into the hcb? How about the racists who just don't like Obama because he is black and make no bones about it. Your taking your freedom back? Where did it go? What freedoms have you lost since Obama has been in office? Where were all the tea baggers when bush was in office with his “the constitution is just a goddam piece of paper”? We lost more freedom under bush administration and I didn't hear any of the tea baggers complaining then. Dick army is one of the republicans who is bank rolling the tea baggers. He is using the tea baggers as tools to advance the republican party. All you good soldiers might not want to admit you are republican, and you can call yourselves anything you want, but I bet if Obama were white not one of you would be complaining. If you were truly concerned with our country you had 8 long years to bitch about all the lies told and crimes committed under bush. There was complete silence from the right wing.

  142. mindboggeling

Go back to faux news. The fair and balanced for the unhinged.

  143. cliver1960

My comment that began with 'Oh My GOD' was meant for Ken and his blaming every thing in the world, including his inability to participate in any meaningful relationship, on Jews. Man…. is this guy a sicko.

  144. mindboggeling

If you resent being called a media whore quoting gop sound bites don't say them. Every morning the the gop has their talking points repeated by every wight wing talking head on any channel you turn to. It is obvious the republicans believe if a lie is repeated often enough it becomes the truth.

  145. 2Q2Q4Q

Got it all figured out don't you! Listen up! I am 65 yrs. old, white, librul, 21/2 tours in S.E. Asia and I work for a living. I am not a fearmongering right-wing, chicken hawk draft dodger like Cheney, Bush, Limbaugh, Ted Nugent, Rove and yes Clinton. I just believe that if anything untoward were to happen the best shot my family and I have is for someone with a vested interest to protect us. READ ME! Not all people who are prepared are loonie. What harm is 60 days worth of MRE's, 1500 rounds of .223 and 40 gallons of bottled water? What's in your closet?

  146. I have been several times to Latin America and plan on returning to live in Honduras. I was born in Florida, live in Louisiana, and went to school in Arkansas. I am a white American and I can tell you that illegals love America tell me why any normal Latinos would risk their lives and leave their families to come to America? They want to bring themselves out of poverty bring themselves out of what Americans call the Third world. Make a better life for their children. Become educated and bring that knowledge back to their families.

  147. UserLoser

Hey if you can afford it good. If history is any guide people are going to create their own end of the world getting ready for the end of days. Saddest part about end timers is they tend to think too highly of themselves, like they are so special that the end of the world is going to be on their watch. The world isn't going to end we'll just wish it had…when we look at this huge pile of crap we don't need and all the things we could have done while waiting for the end of the world.

  148. And I suppose those here who demean the individuals who DO prepare for the future also believe it is foolish to prepare for disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, etc. Because, of course, such disasters NEVER happen…just as civil unrest could never happen.
The government itself advises us to be prepared for a minimum of 72 hours of self-sufficiency in case of disaster. Katrina showed us that is a very conservative estimate & a pipedream. How long does it take for your local grocery store to be stripped when something as simple as a bad snowstorm occers?

Why is it so despicable for me to prepare to take care of myself & mine?? Why is it wrong for individuals to want to support themselves from their own land? And why the h*** is it any of your business, anyway? Trust me, in a time of need you idiots will appreciate those who have taken precautions…we won't be consuming the resources YOU NEED because you thought we were nutso, paranoid, rascist, whack-jobs!
Most “preppers” ARE concerned with their communities & engage in efforts to help all be prepared. Unfortunately they run into attitudes like some expressed here…leeches who expect “the community” to take care of them when times get tough.

  149. 2Q2Q4Q

You have a very loose grasp on history!!! If they had Mauser 7mm. rifles in Warsaw instead of bottle's full of gas the Germans would still undoubtably have ruled, but at a much greater cost.
Pancho Villa ” I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees”. I truly believe that at some point in a battle your life becomes forfeit. That is the moment that you choose to make your enemy respect and remember you. I was a 1st.Sgt, and I spent 21/2 years in country, I can honestly state that my enemies knew of me. The weak kneed politicians lost the war but we won all the battles!!!

  150. 2Q2Q4Q

Wrong!!!!! Stalin was a fascist. Hitler started out a Left wing politician, because he hated what the Oligarchy had done to Germany. After WW1 the allies made Germany pay for the war, so they just cranked up the presses and in 1929 a wheel barrow full of Reichsmarks would get you a loaf of bread. Sound familliar? In case you are not real pollitically astute, a fascist is a pro business government. Sound even more familliar?

  151. Patriot101

Arm yourselves because if the Republicans who caused the Depression get back in office things will go south very quickly!

  152. Despicable!

  153. 2Q2Q4Q

And let me guess……..you and the government are going to clean up this mess!!!! They started it and have it just where they want it. When it all shakes out they will scurry like rats from a sinking ship to a far away land with all your money. ( In Swiss accounts). We will be left holding this bag of shit!

  154. Very apropo description of our corporate controlled gov't & financial regime.
Glad someone out here can see that personal responsibility for ones' well-being & that of their family does not mean they are “nutcase militia people hiding in Idaho's panhandle”. Hope you are also realistic enough to be preparing.

  155. Wake-up!!

  156. To me being prepared is not about the end of the world. Its about doing something common sense in a really poor economy. Its about ensuring that you don't watch your family starve if you lose your job. Some of the people who have lost their homes might not have if they had 6 months of food laid in? This whole thing is kind of how I was raised. You don't spend all you make and you prepare for times when things may not be as good as you have them now.

  157. 2Q2Q4Q

Not an “endtimer”. Afford it??? I have probably 3K invested in protecting my family. What's your cable bill? If nothing happens and I pass on my grand children have some “cool stuff”

  158. 2Q2Q4Q

You go girl!!!! Leeches good choice of words. Did I mention that after the 1st. 60 days I have a little place in the boonies? Not much, but it will look like pure heaven compared to the cities.

  159. signalfire1

    Damn straight! Thank you!

  160. likewow

Obama was sent by Satan to finish off America and usher in the Apocalypse that will lay waste to this world. Cannibal anarchy is here now.

  161. 2Q2Q4Q

Advice. Quit praying with the Rev. Fallwell and or the Catholic Church and arm yourself. No paranoia just fact. They are about 1/3 of the current problems in the world.

  162. clumberfeet

No that is Gush Limbaugh's stated intent.

  163. clumberfeet

    Did you buy food insurance?

  164. Paul_McClure

People don't realize how interconnected we are, and have been for a very long time. It's fine even desirable to be prepared for your areas disaster, hurricane, forest fire, snow storm when the power is out and roads blocked for a few days. Stockpiling weapons is just silly. A poster mentioned the local police and potentially national guard being organized and able to dispatch even the most 'prepared' lone wolf. The US seems to be invading Costa Rica just because they can.

Participation in the community and guiding the government is the only long term way to thrive. A bolt hole is only good for watching the world go by, and you really don't need preparation for that.

  165. markusgarvey

In an effort to serve the online community best, please verify your account so that your comments will post as soon as they are posted in the future. Thanks

  166. Hooker

Yes, Paul, I agree. But, “people”, though interconnected, are somehow as charles bukowski wrote, “are not good to each other.” We need more kindness, understanding, empathy, “Do unto others…” or simply try to put ourselves in the others shoes. But you can see from the comments how simple blind hatred, stupidity and prejudice rules with so many among us. As an example, just one of many, the comment that equates Obama with 'Cannibal anarchy.” What could be more vicious and hateful …and false! (And I'm no fan of Obama's.)

  167. 2Q2Q4Q

I differ with your assessment. I don't stockpile weapons. I have lent my knowledge of survival to my community in many ways. Fact is at some point only you have a vested interest in protecting you and yours. I don't see local authority or national guard units as the problem, I see them as overwhelmed if civil unrest transpires. There are 300 million people in this country.
Emporer Hiro Hito said it best when asked if attacking the U.S. were an option “it would be impossible because there is a gun behind every blade of grass”. You are right when you state the police and National Guard could deal with a lone wolf, but would they want to deal with the whole pack?

  168. Ken is sooooooo right. These idiots calling people Nazis for exposing Jew evil are incapable of self-thought, they merely regurgitate their indoctrination. The damned Jews destroy everything that is good. They have been expelled from almost every country on earth at least once. They cry crocodile tears while they stab their friends in the back. The Israeli Jew is pure evil walking the earth in human form.

  169. Gweed

There are easily enough armed citizens that even if they were completely unorganized, the American military would be overwhelmed. Not only this, but in the face of a popular armed revolution, defection would run rampant in the US military. You just need to look at what happened to the USSR in 1991 when military units all over the country refused the orders of their superiors, they even switch sides as we saw in 1918.

It's a little hard on morale when your fighting your own people on the soil you were born and raised in. You'd be surprised how well an enemy cornered and fighting for their home and family will fight back.

  170. There are only two sides, Slavery of the masses and individual freedom. All Democrats and almost all Republicans are in the slavery camp. So that puts Hitler and Stalin in the same camp, only the tactics are a little different. There isn't even much to discuss between the two, Stalin killed twenty million, Hitler killed eight million, all were killed for the same goal, oppression of the general population for profit and fun. Democrats are ALL elitist slavers, like Hitler and Stalin.

  171. Gweed

It's a historical and even scientific fact that any and every government, no matter how democratic they claim to be, will end up as an Owellian state. People need to stop looking at the government and its branches as an actual thing, its just a piece of paper and a group of people telling a larger group of people what to do. They “govern” our lives, hence the name.

I'm not anticipating an “end of the world” I'm anticipating an Orwellian government. As Jefferson once said “the tree of liberty must be refreshed with the blood of tyrants”. That's is what I am preparing for and that's what I will end up defending myself against, not some religious apocolyptic mythological bull****.

Those guns are the only real way we have of defending ourselves and our homes

  172. mkultra

I'm wih Erwin – minus all the Jesus freakery. This one is very much man made.

  173. jphwacheski

ok great destroyer,. so that would be you then, destroying the work or others? I am all 'growed up' thanks.
An interconected community in volantary cooperation is a much stronger defence than boxing yourself in a dank armed bunker,. and who wants to live like that? quality of life is an issue,. there are levels of existance that are just not worth working towards. I choose to work with like minded folks who strive to create a situation that does not devolve to where uncivilised weapons like guns are ever needed.

  174. Maybe this is one of the rare examples in history where a society collpsed because people walked away rather than were annihilated or went down fighting. It's so hard to see how that would play out. I don' think that hunkering down in the woods all isolated is the best option though. You really would be all alone in a world that is struggling to stick together and survive.
Too many Bruce willis movies I guess.

  175. Paul_McClure

With all due respect for those serving the military it is a tool for specific problems. Gulf War I would be a good implementation. Afghanistan would be a poor implementation. The point that government without the support of the people, your 300M anarchists, is harmless or easily ignored is probably incorrect. If a significant fraction support the government they can maintain control by force – apartheid South Africa, North Korea, Pol Pot's Cambodia, Myanmar. All governments fall over time but that isn't the point. US history shows that even in dire times there was a significant percentage supporting the government.

I get the feeling that the wannabe soldiers simply want to kill their neighbors and get away with it. If the intent is to be mayor of your new community you could simply brush up and run for the office. If preparedness is really that important then wouldn't being in a responsible position be something worth while. With all the planning the US military does in Afghanistan and the gazillion dollars spent on tailored equipment, support and procedures they are still ambushed and killed.

  176. theghostpony

“Maybe this is one of the rare examples in history where a society collpsed because people walked away rather than were annihilated or went down fighting.”

Wasn't it the GOP that loved to call folks like that frenchmen? I remember a lot of that being tossed around during the reign of Bush the Lesser. Well, look who's running now. ;-)

And, my deepest apologies to the French.

  177. theghostpony

Hey, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn, New York I'll sell you. Cheap.

  178. MikeinTokyoRogers

Atlantic Capers, you miss the point completely. How is someone to be called crazy when they have the where-with-all and financial ability to be able to do what they wish with their dwelling or take their family somewhere far way? That's the point of this.

Could you if you wanted to? I doubt it. Would most people in this day and age like to “get away”? I'd bet most world.

And, yes, perhaps putting lots of security on his doors might seems a bit much to you and me, but if it buys him and his wife peace of mind, then why not do it? Do you have a dead bolt lock on your door? Do you use it? Levels of security are to be chosen by the user as they see fit.

You would wish that you had the finances to be able to drop out of this insane world if you could. Anyone in their right mind would.

  179. MikeinTokyoRogers

    Wonderful common sense.

  180. MikeinTokyoRogers

I live in a country that has earthquakes all the time. Only an idiot wouldn't have at least 2 months of food and water stored. I have 6. Just common sense.

  181. unclesam2

One should always be prepared for anything, especially if you have a family

  182. textynn

Live by the gun, die by the gun. Turning on each other is what they want. Love they neighbor as yourself is not about altruism as some think, it is about not being vulnerable to disaster or foes. Intended communities will be the only survivors if all hell breaks loose.

  183. mkultra

Religious tolerance…love thy neighbor…do unto others…Yep. It's a good thing I don't believe in that stuff or I'd be a cannibal anarchist just like you.

  184. UserLoser

Stalin was a failed priest and the biggest murderer of all time coincidence or feature? What is it about religion and murder?

  185. BrainRagYell

Except if that happens, all of these insurgent voices will immediately shut up and it'll be back to the old familiar, “Liberals are weak and traitorous and can't get anything done.”

    Why is that again?

  186. Ridiculous! You stereotype! Who said anything about waiting for the end of the world – except you?! We live normal lives like most people…jobs, meeting the needs of our families, hobbies, travel, education. I would like to have a fighting chance to continue to HAVE a life in the aftermath of a disaster. Being prepared may just give me & my family that opportunity.
This is even more critical for those of us who are not wealthy.
Remember Haiti after the quake? Do you think they could have used some food & clean water stashed away? Or the women could have used a way to defend themselves against the roving bands of rapists? Or are those things “crap” people don't need? You will not think so when it is your partner, child, parent, friend who is starved, raped, beaten, etc.
Yes, I do think highly enough of myself & those I love to attempt to take responsibility for ourselves. I refuse to depend on the gov't, community, etc to take care of me. Never have, never will. Be prepared for the worst & hope for the best.
Again, those who can't be bothered with personal responsibility must ridicule those who take it seriously…

  187. I agree that our own troops would be less likely to harm another citizen in the country where they were born and raised. But the evil people killing this world know that and would use private armies and armies from other countries to come in to take control if need be.

  188. Well stated!!

  189. A lot of people don't know just how true that statement is.

Unfortunately people also are turning away from their Creator because they have been lied to by these people that claim to be holy, and are not. So, rather than seek the truth, and seek the Father, they simply turn away and blame it on the Catholic church, or the church in general.

    So sad……

  190. Too bad so many people are like you…..

You stand around arguing about what party caused what. The problem is the banks, the Fed, and the Vatican.

That is it, simply put. More to it than that. But in a nutshell. If we all stop getting caught up in the 2 party bs that is spoon-fed to us, and start actually following the money (i.e. the problem) we can see who is to blame. The puppets in our government are just that, puppets. From the top down. They are not going to change a damn thing FOR us because they are ALL paid. The last guy that tried to change anything for WE THE PEOPLE was JFK, and he wound up dead when he signed Executive Order 11110.

  191. You said a mouthful, Stacey. Though I hope that you don't allow the weasels that are trolling for people upset you too often. They are not worth your time, really.
My wife and I are bugging-out of Tampa, Fl. in less than 3 weeks IF things hold together that long here, and moving north to get a place prepared that we can live off of without being “on the grid” and having to rely on anything related to the gov. at all.
We are also preparing for when times get bad and these same idiots that are talking trash in these types of forums and trying to upset those that are thinking reality. In other words, we will be heavily armed and ready to stop these same people from coming in and trying to take what they want because they didn't want to prepare themselves. At the same time, we will be open to those that want to help out and do their part around the property too.
Bless you and yours, and take care.

  192. If an “intended community” is not prepared to defend itself against the “intended community” that does not “intend” to play nice, it most surely will NOT survive. The better side of people is not activated by difficult circumstances.
What will you do when they come for your food, water, shelter, etc? What about the armed gang that wants your little girls & has the “gun” to back up their demands? Are you going to love them into submission? Face reality!

  193. michaelvalentine

Let me repeat myself, freaking crazy people.

  194. cliffhammond

These idiots are paranoid. They want to defend themselves against their neighbors when, in the event of any such doom, their neighbors are their very means of survival.

  195. While you are correct about participation & guidance in theory, sometimes it doesn't work so well in practice. Like when the gov't wants to do things entirely its' own way.
A means of personal defense most certainly has its' place in being prepared. That does NOT mean watching the world through a bolt hole. It means being ready when some thug breaks down the door & threatens your life or that of a loved one. While some of us are loners, so to speak, few are truly “lone wolves”.

A study of Argentinian society after their economic collapse proves this out. (see “The Modern Survival Manual: Surviving the Economic Collapse” Fernando Ferfal Aguirre) Where daily muggings, kidnappings, home invasions, robberies, murder, & rape became a way of life…i.e. never stop at a stop light. But it is impossible to hole up forever & we must be prepared to defend ourselves.

  196. Most SANE individuals are not interested in killing their neighbors. However, many, many individuals who are NOT prepared to defend themselves are killed or injured by attackers, home invaders, domestic abusers, etc than are individuals who ARE prepared to defend themselves.

  197. I don't know about other western societies, but Americans will never give up. Some who can may “hunker down' for a while to try to keep families safe if things are REALLY awful. However, I don't see it as a permanent choice for the majority.

  198. AbleOne

I myself have not prepared, nor will I. for my skills are natural with in my blood. Yet to those calling these people crazy are indeed the crazy ones. For it is these who you will be turning to for help… Don't bite the hand of the persons ass you will be kissing later…

  199. AbleOne

To those who say these people are idiots and crazy, careful you are not spitting in the faces whos ass you will be kissing one day soon…

  200. When society collapses those good qualities go out the window. What can we expect when they barely exist during “normal” times.

I am neither stupid or prejudice, but after watching the performance of our gov't these past years, must admit I have moments of hatred…like when looking at pictures of the oil spill. I hate those that allowed it to happen & those who have done nothing when so much was in their power to do. Not proud of it, but when corporate greed, political corruption, & good-ol'-boy cronyism & thugishness destroy our world/lives I hate them. I understand how people can make comments like “cannibal anarchy”…I just would not apply it to one individual. It's what the above entities are doing to “the small people”.

  201. No…. they are NOT crazy…. God tells us in the Bible to be prepared. Remember how all the people in Noah's day were calling him crazy!!! Well….. was he?? He is the one that survived in the Ark with his family, and all the ones that called him crazy drowned.

Also it says in the Bible that Brother will turn against Brother, and Neighbor against Neighbor, so I wouldnt count on my neighbors to help me out of any natural catastrophe!
    Be prepared!!

  202. “We're hitting on all cylinders as far as symptoms that have led other great powers to decline or collapse: resource depletion, damage to the environment, climate change, those are the same things that affected other great societies,”

    Can't disagree with that one.

  203. Your financial analysis is right on…except, I believe, the Chinese have already been buying up the gold. India, as well.
All one has to observe is the nationalization of corporations & major services to society i.e. Obamacare, as well as bank take-overs, & financial make-overs to see the writing on the wall. It's hard to read when ones' head is in the sand.

  204. My apology! I either missed that post or it was removed by the time I read this article. Must have been pretty bad to provoke such a reaction. Again, apologies…

  205. Glad to see a liberal who has common sense instead of magical thinking. Would like to have some of your skills. Appreciate your tongue-in-cheek humor as well…
However, please do not equate “religious right-wing” individuals with the “totally ignorant” & violent which continues to foster & encourage stereotypes as much as the view that all preppers are “right-wing wackos'.

I say those who caused the oil spill/botched the clean-up should be first, then you can have the hedge fund managers – & their bosses, too.

  206. At least if I, or a family member, loose our jobs we will have some supplies stocked up & won't have to suck off YOUR tax dollars because we don't have the personal responsibility to be prepared.

With that attitude, hope you don't suck mine when the time comes.

  207. cloudglider

Actually, it will be more than difficult for everyone when everything finally comes apart at the seams. True, some preparedness is wise in the short term regarding emergency supplies, but as far as everything else is concerned, the effort is a futile exercise.

Everyone thinks they have a handle on what is about to occur. Sadly, they do not. The issue at stake in the world now, is the same issue that has created turmoil and chaos throughout human history; who, in the end, has the RIGHT TO RULE?

World leaders, regardless of individual motivations, are all bent on world domination, and will stop at nothing to get it. Someones small, well built and well supplied bunker of a home will not survive the onslaught for power.

What world leaders have failed to realize is that they are also on a losing quest. The reason they don't realize this is their willful choice to ignore reality. The true reality is the fact that world government is on the road to one final, all encompassing conflict, which they will lose.
Everyone either ignores or is in possession of such ignorance of the real definition of what the Apocalypse is; the final war between God and wicked mankind. It isn't a war that man fights between themselves. It is a war to prove who really has the right to rule the earth. Those avid readers out there should develop interest in finding out what Isaiah, Ezekiel and the Revelation account actually depict. Read also Matthew 24 as well.

Why, the world has gone mad all around us. Does anyone really think they fight against this system and succeed? You will not succeed, you will only die unless you are determined to find out who is going to fulfill this amazing prophesy, which everyone ignores: 44 “And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom (or government) that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom (or government) itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms (or governments), and it itself will stand to times indefinite; (Daniel 2:44)

Now, for the majority of those who say they believe in Christianity, what do you think you were praying for in the Lord's Prayer, a human run government? No, you were asking for a government formed and run from the heavens with its force of power exercised from that vantage point toward the earth. It would not be administered by mullahs, or priests or religious ministers of any kind designated by imperfect humans, of other imperfect humans.

Yes, there is going to be catastrophic societal unrest to a degree that has never been experienced in all human history. The question is, which side will each be found on? Will one be on the side of world leaders or their opposition, or will they be found on the side of the one who has established the kingdom government mentioned at Daniel 2:44 and at Matthew 6:9-13.

Mankind, thus, has three choices. Only one choice will secure protection and, ultimately, survival. Time has just about run out to make that choice before the door of choice is finally closed. If mankind continues to ignore the choice they are being given for life which involves this heavenly government, then they will be removed with the refuse destroying this planet.

Remember, the global issue is who has the right to rule. The clue to the answer is that humans don't…..

  208. How wrong you are! Those of us who believe in the personal responsibility of being prepared are the ones doing the hard work while you engage in your magical liberal thinking that the gov't/community will take care of you.
The gov't (yes, Dems, too) recommends 72 hours of disaster preparations…why is having food & other supplies to care for our families “sick”? Why is our personal responsibility such a threat to you? Why do you hate your race? And why do you ass-ume that everyone who prepares for disaster is a Republican?

Oh, I get it…our preps threaten you because the disaster won't kill us off (Repubs are hateful?). And when you don't have squat & your family is starving because you thought it was “sick” to prepare, we will be armed to defend ourselves. Who should be scared?

  209. You got that! Especially this crowd of thugs we are stuck with now.

  210. 2Q2Q4Q

Dude…..hold on…..there is no god! Organized religion is all a hoax brought to you by the same people who make Pop Tarts.

  211. Not there yet, but working on it.

  212. seen2much

*Sigh*….. If not for the horrific punchline, this joke that is the Average American is absolutely hilarious…

First of all, you can't fortress yourself, it just cannot work anymore… No matter how tough you build your abode, 2 gallons of glass, a few glass bottles, some rags and an ignition source is all that it takes to render your “medieval castle” into a Waco barbeque… That's if it's amateur hour. Somebody half-way serious shows up and they lob about 4 1/8th lb. thermite device onto and next to your house, and it's a Waco barbeque at 1/10th the time… You're only hope is to secure your “hood”, and that's gonna take you and your neighbors working TOGETHER and DYING together… Something I doubt many of you suburb types are any good at..

Then there's the water issue.. It takes a lot of clean water to stay alive, and every member of your family greatly increases that need. Also, water is heavy, even the best of us can only carry a couple of days supply, since you must carry other important items as well. Safe water is EXTREMELY difficult to find in failed urban environments, and what can be found will be horded and HEAVILY defended.. The rest of the water is most likely contaminated, that's just the reality of city life. Ammo? It's lead, it's heavy, it's a big liability if fire occurs, it doesn't last forever, it corrodes(time to corrosion varies by type of manufacture, the former east bloc stuff is GREAT!!).

And then food… You cannot store enough for the length of time this upheaval will last…

YOU CANNOT STORE ENOUGH FOR THE LENGTH THIS UPHEAVAL WILL LAST.

What you must pay attention to is SUSTAINABLE FOOD PRODUCTION.

Rabbits are awesome, quiet, and protein packed. Problem is they offer no fat, you will starve to death on a rabbit only diet. You can feed them grass, and most vegetable waste, as well as any grain. Chickens are great, eggs and meat. Keep it mostly to hens as the roosters will give you away. Chickens can be fed virtually ANYTHING, roadkill, scraps, corpses, whatever you can find.

Beans are your best friend. Easy to grow, packed with what you need, easy to store. It's really hard to go wrong with beans.. Just make sure you cook red beans really well….

Weapons. 12 Gauge. Period, end of paragraph.

Now some important details: For the noob: Point in general direction of problem, ensure 00 buckshot round chambered and safety off, pull trigger, cycle weapon, pull trigger, cycle weapon, pull trigger..(if using a mossberg 590, repeat six more times.). If whatever was bothering you has not departed by this time, two airborne rangers with full battle carry could not have helped you, and you were screwed beyond belief before the fight began.

For the more initiated: Virtually ANYTHING can be loaded into a 3 in. magnum 12 gauge shotshell.. From crowd pleasers like broken glass mixed with habanero placentas, to white phosphorous for the especially creative. Be imaginative, yet remember that high pressure/temp and metal is involved….

Shot gun is your best defensive choice, easy to use under stress, forgiving in aiming, intimidating as hell on the receiving end.

Your greatest asset going into this? Family, friends, neighbors. In that order. You can be each others greatest strength, or worst enemies.. Find out now where that will go, the sooner you figure that one out, the less it will cost you if it goes bad.

Learn to trade, barter, haggle and negotiate.. These skills will carry you far in any environment.

Or.. Just dismiss me as some sheep ranching kook in the central Texas hill country, too inbred to open both eyes, starin' at the sun.. Fits uh' rage come and go… But the sun, is constant…

Good luck.. If you can, try not to die too close to any water sources, it makes it VERY hard on the survivors, plus, it's just plain rude…

  213. 2Q2Q4Q

Louis the XIV, Marie Antoinette, The Czars, The Roman Empire. I dare you……forget at your own peril!

  214. Some believe that the boonies is not the place to be. Too isolated unless you are part of a larger group. After all, can you stay awake 24 hours a day to defend things? Getting there may be hugely problematic, as well.

In any case, lots of us are stuck doing the best we can in the urban/suburban areas. Places that will need people like you…

  215. That's what I say! Why are people so offended that some of us want to be prepared for the bad stuff that can come along? Makes no sense to me!

  216. Oh, I found it…pretty despicable all right.

  217. 2Q2Q4Q

Water 8lbs. per gallon. 40gal.= 60 days. 90 days of MRE's for 2 people 87lbs. mini14 ranch rifle 11 lbs. 1000 rounds .223 40lbs. 2 hk p7 9mm. pistols 8lbs. 200 rounds pp 27lbs. If you can shoot call me when the fit hits the shan.

  218. johnconley

These poor, cowardly people….so cowardly I can hardly see how they can call themselves Americans. Now they want to be able to pack heat in bars and churches. Holder is right, this is a nation of sniveling cowards.

  219. So who is the coward? Someone who wants to be able to protect themselves in bars or churches? Or someone who wants someone else to do the protecting? Which one are you johnconley?

  220. Hello from Southeast Missouri. I read your comment and was totally suprised to see another person with the same survival methods that my dad and I believe: that the only way to survive is going to be in numbers not holed up by yourselves, the water, food, and choice of protection. My dad does a lot of research on the internet and also has the distinct privilige of being born and raised in the country his whole life. I hope I am not being to forward here but might I also suggest that keeping bags of whole grains would also be a good thing to have. Not very many people would know what to do with whole grains and most people would pass them by probably not even knowing what it was since it doesn't come in a can or wrapped in plastic. You may have all this stuff anyway but I have some really good websites that we have found on a lot of different techniques for storing and processing some foods that most people wouldn't think of. If you are interested, you could email me at gemini_d99@yahoo.com. If nothing else would like to correspond with you and see what other thoughts or ideas you might have. I think if we all started sharing ideas we would all have a better chance. I hope you all the best of luck in the coming days. thanks for reading. L.

  221. Here is the main clue…read this and see if it fits. I doubt if it will to you if you are hung up on that book…http://www.whale.to/b/callahan1.html

  222. PLEASE help me here…so how did Noah fit a pair of all the animals in the world into that boat that was as small as it is. Think you could fit a pair of all the animals in the world in the USS Nimitz? I do doubt it and it is THREE TIMES the size of what the ark was supposed to hvae been. And btw…when he landed the ark, how did those animals get to Australia?

  223. Yes, we will just love them to death. Give them what they want, you already do, I am sure…

  224. seen2much

I can shoot a 'lil bit (smirk), saw some people shooting on the TV lookity box… Looked real easy if you're one of the good guys.

  225. seen2much

Whole grains in well sealed bags have potential, just remember, grain storage can also be quite challenging. They must be kept VERY dry or even under VERY specific humidity and temps, depending on the grain.. Also, grain storage can lead to grain dust, grain dust and static or a metal to metal spark can lead to a silo or barn leveling explosion, if enough dry grain is stored in one spot…

For most of my food storage needs, I picked up a VERY large American Standard pressure cooker, and many, many autoclaveable Ball brand canning jars. The largest are 1 gallon(2 whole chickens can fit in these.), down to my little jam jars.

Storage of perishables without refrigeration is very possible, if a bit labor and time intensive.

Also, my planning involves nomadic food production if the need arises… Several yurts, a few bio diesel powered trucks, portable appleseed bio diesel system, small turbines, solar powered electric fence chargers. The ability to get away from a deteriorating situation greatly improves your durability. The main livestock of my farm are Dorper meat sheep. With heirloom breed java chickens mixed with austrolorp, well balanced in egg and meat production. Californian rabbits for extra protein. R.O. filters for emergency water extraction. The whole show can hit the road in under 1 hour.

You oughtta see what I packed in the bug out bag….

  226. Ruffian234

    Stacy, you said:

“With that attitude, hope you don't suck mine when the time comes.”

Argh, the perfect comeback but I don't dare say it!

As for those warning of socialism, it isn't socialism that ran over us in 2008, it was crony capitalism and the “minimal regulation” mantra begun in the Reagan administration that did us in. Yet the hysterical ones are worried about socialism?

Your puppet-masters know waving the socialist warning in front of you is like a red flag to a bull. They want you looking the other way while they reinstitute the crony capitalism and lax regulation that gave us a near depression and the worst econlogical disaster in our history.

The same ones now railing against deficits ran two wars off budget, one of them totally unnecessary, funded a medicare prescription drug giveaway off budget, and cut taxes as a prelude to their gift of a near-depression (that we have not escaped yet).

Inconceivably, many on this thread demand we cut off unemployment benefits to those who lost their job due to the near depression engineered by the crony capitalists and neo-cons (some of whom escaped with $100 million dollar bonuses), while showering billions of dollars on nation-build in Afghanistan. Can you understand why you cannot be taken seriously? You want to cut off your fellow citizens while pouring ten times that amount into a country with few paved roads and a few hundred corrupt officials who siphon off much of the money?

    Sheer lunacy.

If you fine folks have your budget cutting ways, we will get the depression we have only just avoided. The Republicans are replaying 1937 (where Roosevelt cut spending to cut the deficit and put us back into the depression that took a world war to escape) in order to get re-elected. Alas, it seems there are enough hookwinked fools who believe them that it might actually happen.

As far as the arsenal building and bunker construction, why do all you fine fellows need a gun, or twenty, to face the world when 95% of women do not?

Do I need to draw the conclusion for you?

  230. GirlOz

These guys have a name Jesuits, yes they do exist!!!!

  231. GirlOz

You should take a look at some of Zecharia Sitchins stuff maybe you will change your mind.

  232. GirlOz

Good question, I dont remember the kangaroo even being on the ark actually!!!

  233. GirlOz

Totally agree, you guys have an enough to overthrow this, as is always the case Oz follows the US so I hope for our sakes that you can defeat this, in Oz the citizens are un armed and would be totally defenceless in this respect.

  234. GirlOz

Its already happening now, they are training them up as we speak!!

  235. GirlOz

If you research the Jesuits, you will find that they are indeed the puppeteers of it all!!!

  236. While everyone is busy name-calling, people forget that all societies go thru times of expansion and collapse. Sometimes those upheavals do the society in, sometimes not. But the reality that is too often overlooked is that they are absolutely inevitable. Neglecting to prepare and provide for yourself is a fools errand borne entirely of hubris. If you doubt me, ask your relatives that survived the Great Depression.

  237. Gweed

Its better to be prepared than not to be; I believe the expression “Run as fast as you can just to stay where you are” works nicely here.

Wannabe soldiers with murderous intentions? No, we are simply reasonable people who do not need somebody to watch and punish us to do what the majority consider morally just or correct deeds. And Stacey is very right, many countries have gun laws that are far more relaxed than the US and yet the ratio of people that die in the United States by shootings is far higher than those countries.

And it is historically true that the more centralized societies tend to be more inefficient and prone to corruption and abuse. USSR is once more a great example, as is North Korea.

  238. Elim

Yes, please explain your conclusion. If a catastrophic societal breakdown occurs, there could be hungry, desperate people who will take from you what they failed to stockpile for themselves. How would you stop them, if you had to?

  239. Elim

Survivalists are cowards? Because they don't want to leave anything to chance when things are looking this bad for our country?

  240. Elim

I wish I could remember where I read this quote recently, a man who was talking about the Columbine and Virginia Tech massacres. He said “we don't know what would have happened if some of the teachers or students had been armed on the day of the killings, but we know now with certaintly what happens when they're not.”

  241. Elim

That's it. Safety in numbers. Imagine what could have happened in New Orleans if groups of people acted together to secure their neighborhoods before Blackwater arrived to confiscate their weapons (which were never returned, btw) and force them from their homes. It was not necessary for everyone in the affected areas to leave, but there were investors waiting to buy that land for pennies on the dollar, see?

You'd have to call any such organization a neighborhood watch or some other befitting name. Just don't call it a militia, or the teabagging accusations start up, and thanks to all the publicity and demonizing of militias, you'd be called all sorts of unsavory things. But you and seen2much are absolutely right. Stick together.

  242. Elim

Nixon should have had that Lucifer-worshipping psychopath assassinated.

  245. Elim

You're missing the forest for the trees, AbleOne. The point is not to need to ask the crazy ones for help, because surely they will wish to extract the last thing(s) of value that you possess in exchange.

  246. Elim

And living in a gated community will be like a beacon to the desperate.

  247. GirlOz

I dont know if I entirely agree with more centralised communities having more corruption I think it is more a case of the closer people are to each other the more information is spread. I know about plenty of corruption here in OZ and look how spread out we are, its just that no one knows about it. The less people see the less they are interested in what goes on. People over here are so isolated they hardly know what goes on past the end of their street!!!!!

  248. GirlOz

Once again agree Elim, the powers that be try hard to confuse and alienate people for that very reason because they dont want them to band together, this is where they will lose and it will be End Game for them and not us.

  249. Elim

Perhaps this is one of the reasons our military is engaged in the middle east, because the elites know they would not have their full support if called upon to fire on other Americans.

Remember Romania and the Ceacescu regime? The politicians in this country would do well to heed that example. So should we all.

  250. Elim

It's going to take several false flags involving armed citizens so they can announce that they're outlawing guns in this country. The trick for them is, to get us to beg them to do it. We never would, of course, but our whoring complicit media would tell us that we are all pleading for this.

  251. Elim

Every neighborhood should organize its own “Blackwater” to handle security in such an event. Not necessarily for armed resistance, but to convince others trying to enter that all's well and secured, now move along.

  252. It's good to see that others from SEMO are getting prepared…I knew that my Heartland Home would not be suckered into complacency. My email is thomasaldredge@yahoo.com. Please contact me at your soonest convenience.

SHARE?! Sounds like socialism to me!

Look here missy, all you need is your stock pile of guns (no matter if you only have TWO HANDS TO USE THEM) and you're good for the coming end of days. You know….the end of days that's been coming for like 2 thousand years…..THAT end of days. I shit you not…..it's totally and really effing happening this time. For serious…. O_o

  262. falconium

  263. falconium

Somebody's been watching Omega Man too often.

  264. Sharing is socialism now, OK. How's about this, so we can meet in the middle.

I believe the ability of people to protect themselves from bad guys should not be hindered in any manner. I also believe that the overall numbers of “bad guys” can be dramatically reduced if everyone did one simple thing.

Take care of family and friends.

By take care of course I mean share. Who doesn't do this in some capacity already anyway? All I'm saying is that we need to amp this up now that it's becoming more and more difficult to stay afloat as individuals.

To deny that things are getting tougher is to say to us all who visit this site that you just come to see the pretty pictures. If you're reading any of this with an objective opinion you'd at least come to the conclusion that having something OTHER than money saved for ANY type of rainy day is an intelligent move thought of by an intelligent being no matter what tag you try to pin on it.

Think about this though with reference to whether you protect yourself by sharing bushels of vegetables or stocking up on guns and ammunition: All Things In Moderation!

You chose socialism, I prefer social cohesion. After all, there are 300 million Americans, protecting a tomato patch from all of them is a lot more difficult and stressful than cooking with them and feeding each other.

PS: The Native Americans gave us great examples of how people could live pretty peaceably using just such a premise.

  265. Stina

I was being sarcastic but I couldn't agree with you more.

Helping out neighbors, family and friends is key. from neighborhood gardens to just opening your mouth so ask someone if there's anything you can do to help, it makes all the difference. It's sad to me that the concept of helping and sharing (things they teach 5 year old children) is seen as “socialist”, “marxist” and just flat out “unamerican” now. Very very sad. What kind of example are we setting for future generations beyond approving of greedy selfish behavior as “a winner's way”.

You said “You chose socialism, I prefer social cohesion.” and I could have teared up just from knowing someone else believes in it to. A phrase I've used word for word before…..beautiful. :)

Thanks for being more eloquent than my bitter sarcasm could be ;)

If you came to me hungry I would want to feed you something or at least tell you which plants, locusts, gophers are the most available, and how to get them to feed yourself.
However if im already feeding say 12 family members and neighbors off of my stored up pork and beans that I bought in preparation. And I have enough to feed us all for the next month but the crops we are planting will not be ready for two months. I would hope you would be grateful for a meal now and one for the road and my wishing you the best of luck.

  275. To answer you question more Directly,
My wife Carries HER Gun, because she has been raped in the past, and does not plan on being in the future. Besides A cop is too heavy to carry. Guess the other 95 percent just wanna learn the hard way. Or perhaps would rather have an un-welcomed penis in them than to have to see an ICKY ! dead rapist guy.

  276. I carry my own registered firearm. I sleep with a loaded 12g. I hunt with several different kinds of guns. I am not afraid to use any of them, and I know many MANY women who are the same way. I'm from Central Missouri, and women believe in personal protection here. You would be suprised as to how many women actually not only know HOW to use a gun, but also OWN them AND USE THEM on a regular basis.

Do not for an instant think that the simply little mouse of a housewife is not capable of shooting a looter or armed attacker to defend her home and family. Please do not think 95% of women do not carry or use guns when the reality is you would be hard pressed to find 2 families in a row where the woman does not have a gun or at least knows how to use one. We are everywhere. And MORE than willing to step up and help when the time comes. We just don't see the point in doing all the chest beating and bragging that most men do.

  277. Dinkyjean

I grew up on a farm. I learned something early in life many of you should consider. Survival planning is not just about TEOTWAWKI (The End Of The World As We Know It), It is also about TSHTF (The Shit Hitting The Fan). We saved food. We stocked water. We bought ammo. We learned to hunt, garden and process our own food early in life. We went camping and had fun doing all these things. In the process of having fun, we learned how to be self sufficient, how to take care of ourselves in an emergency situation. If your area is hit by a 7.0 earthquake, an F5 tornado, a monster hurricane…can you take care of your family until help arrives…IF it arrives? Put all other things out of the picture, if your area is struck with a natural disaster, can you keep your children fed AND safe? Do you need to leave the area or can you make it in your home? Do you have a plan? Do you have a backup plan for your plan? What about a backup plan for your backup plan? Remember Murphy's Law…Whatever CAN go wrong, WILL go wrong. True you may not be able to stock enough stuff to last 50 years, but can you stock enough to at least get you through any kind of emergency? And have the supplies necisary to p[lant a garden for some kind of crop for the following year if its needed? Or will you be one of those laughing at people for prepping and stocking up food…and when TSHTF turn into one of those who EXPECTS the preppers to take care of you and your children? Can you honestly look at your child and say its not impotant enough to keep them alive? Wouldn't it be better to be safe than sorry? Maybe the economy, society, civilization and government are going to collapse, maybe not…NO ONE KNOWS!! But do you REALLY want to rely on people to take care of you and your family when they will only have the interst and well being of their own family in mind. In a case of TEOTWAWKI…do you honestly think the men and women in the military are gonna stand back and defend some city hall knowing while they do, looters and thugs are running rampant in the area their family is located in? No, many of them will leave to take care of their own. Many of us will be left on our own. Are you prepared to defend your home? Are you ready to defend your family? I am not a dooms day sayer. I am a prepper. I am preparing for ANY kind of worst case scenario, but at the same time, I am enoying life and everything it has to offer. I do know, however, that if ANYTHING goes wrong, I at least have a CHANCE to make it…what do YOU have?

  278. BBinKC

It's called self-sufficiency and being prepared. It is the winner's way. There is a difference between voluntarily helping others and having the government put a gun to your head to take what you have earned so they can give it those who support them politically. If you want to share your money with 3rd generation welfare recipients with 5 kids by different men who are now in prison feel free. If you want to give your money to support crack whores feel free but don't use the force of government to take what I have and give it to them. If I have 6 months worth of food and water for my family that has to last us until we can get to the next harvest I'm not sharing it. Why would I give it someone else who didn't bother to prepare and then have my family and I starve?

  279. “Rabbits are awesome, quiet, and protein packed. Problem is they offer no fat, you will starve to death on a rabbit only diet.”

That is almost correct. However, there's a way around this “rabbit starvation”: put their brains into stews or whatever. As nervous tissue contains a lot of fat, this is enough to beat the problem.

Guinea pigs are even easier to raise, at any rate on a small scale. They need shelter, though. They also provide very lean meat, so they may need the same trick.

  280. BBinKC

Really? How is causing you and your family to starve when give away the food you sacrificed to stockpile to others who decided that the new plasma TV was more important being a decent human being?

  281. BBinKC

You may call them that now but when there are riots in the streets and no food in the stores and your cupboard is empty because you failed to prepare guess whose door you'll be knocking on?

  282. If you have gas you could run over six rabbits a night like I do. Then feed the dog and and the chickens.

  283. GirlOz

I'm not really that heavy to carry but being a cop I guess we also have the added problem of not only protecting our own families but society as well, I hope they give us more guns!!!

  289. They won't be knocking on doors. They'll be sitting at their kitchen table, cold, in the dark, “What am I going to do? What can I do! Why is this happening to me! I'm a good person!”

Sorry, “good” doesn't provide enough calories to stay above room temperature. You have to act. You have to form communities of like-minded people that are determined to produce, on their own if needs be, grow, harvest, weave, hunt, etc. 40,000,000 food stampers have no idea what is around the corner when their little magic card doesn't let them buy twinkies and baby formula anymore.

It's sad, really. Sad that with so many warnings, sitting for years in public schools learning “history”, that so many could believe that everything will be alright; that we'll somehow make it through. That the incompetent, corrupt politicians and their alphabet soup agencies will come in and save the day. Twinkies for all!

Good luck, fellow preppers. God speed.

  290. Chickens! Liked reading about your breeding choice. Eggs have every vitamin you need except vitamin C. You can make a pine needle broth to take care of that. Without having to go full hippie it's important to learn about what plants and roots that you can eat right in your area. You would be surprised to find out how many weeds don't actually taste that bad (as long as they haven't been sprayed with urban chems!) and have amazing nutritional benefits.

Seriously. Learn about your local plants. How else did pioneers make it? They were much hardier back then and they understood their natural world much better. If you actually have to bugout, abandoning equipment and animals to save your life (very tough choice), you'll be glad to see how much food is right around you. Not enough calories without hunting, but you'll get your balanced diet considering the circumstances. Go on amazon.com and get the books while you can. Long winters will provide plenty of reading time – you will want to sleep longer during the cold, dark winters to preserve food supplies – pioneers were adapted and hibernated somewhat back in the day. They weren't very active because it was a waste of energy. Store up your nuts while the temps are warm and get ready.

Be sure to get at least one small solar panel and an inverter so you can charge your car battery to recharge your LED lights so you can have cheap, simple, inexpensive lighting instead of burning through candles.

seen2much, shotguns are great but if you are defending your life I would suggest something with a longer range and magazine fed. Have at least one $500 .30-06, .308 hunting rifle with a simple scope that will let you hit something a football field away if necessary.

Everyone needs to learn “root cellaring” for veggie preservation. Native Americans would store all kinds of food right down in the earth. They had what they needed to make it through the winters.

Wish we could be in the same community, s2m.

  291. A couple of years ago we had an October snow storm, knocked trees down and caused mayhem for over a week. We had no power for over a week, no heat – luckily I had a gas generator and was able to keep things going, I immediately filled containers with water, and luckily I did because the water became contaminated and they advised people not to drink the water unless you boiled it. It was brutal, non of my neighbors had power and struggled through this time period. Of course our local government officials did nothing until the worse was over. My advice is better to be prepared for the worse because the government will not be able to help. Stock up on food, know how to survive without power and heat, get yourself a gun and ammunition for self defense and have a plan for your family to survive and somewhere safe to go in case of the worse, preferrably somewhere out in the country.

  292. [...]    Citez din articolul More and more Americans preparing for social unrest: [...]

  293. Blobee

You all have GREAT imaginations! I think if you are preparing for short term upheaval, it doesn't hurt to stock up on food, water and other necessities. But for long term survival in case of collapse of civilization…well, good luck. There are so many variables that thinking you can live off the land is unrealistic. It assumes a generally peaceful situation where you can protect your land and crops and self (family) with just a gun. But aren't there stories of pioneer farmers of the west who had guns but were often massacred by Indians? There was only safety in numbers. There are descendants of the Maya alive today, but no one of them even remembers the history or way of life before the Spanish. I don't believe self reliance will get you very far in case of civilization collapse, because we rely on others for so much. My grandparents were subsistence farmers in the 1920's and 1930's in Pennsylvania, and they could barely feed themselves and their kids. No heat but wood stoves; no light but kerosene lamps; an outhouse and water heaved up from a well. They butchered the pigs and chickens they were able to raise. They rendered fat and made lye to make soap and washed clothes over an open fire by boiling them. They kept the milk from the cow chilled in a natural stream nearby. The farm they lived on was part of the pay my grandfather got for working a coalmine on the property. It was dangerous, and he lost the horse when the coalmine partially collapsed. He barely got out alive. They had all the skills anyone would ever need to farm and preserve food and raise and butcher livestock. The life they lived was very, very difficult and they almost starved to death. It was backbreaking sun-up to sundown work. And they didn't have to worry about other people trying to kill them or steal their home and food! So all you thinking you will be able to have some idyllic pioneer survival life where everybody is living in scarcity but you, well, I think you're dreamin'! It seems to me, you may stay alive, but it sure will be a tough and unhappy life of backbreaking work and living in fear of every other human being except the ones you know. And that doesn't even include the wild animals you will have to deal with that will surely proliferate with all the dead carcasses of starved humans to feed off of. And then, what about health issues, like a toothache, or fever or animal bites? Sorry, no drugstore to get supplies. (Note to self, buy a case of Tylenol…and iodine.) What about infections, or broken bones? And no Klennex or Tampax or Band-aids. No condoms or birth control pills, so better learn some self control. And the list goes on and on. On September 11th, 2001 no one could have planned to avoid that disaster in advance (except maybe by quitting their job after the first bombing attempt). But some people by chance survived because they didn't go to work that day. Some survived because they were late. Some left the building at the first sign of trouble. Some were pulled out of the rubble. But nobody survived because they had a rope under their desk and rappelled down the side of the building. My plan is to pray for our country, that God will protect us, and help us to get through whatever turmoil may come our way, that He will help us to remain free and lead us to be moral and good, that He will take away our fear, that He will not punish us for our transgressions by allowing our civilization to collapse, but that He will teach us all our errors, and lead us in the paths of His own righteousness. Through prayer, all disasters can be mitigated.

If in fact something is to happen say in 2012, as the mayans predicted, and it became common knowledge that, say there was a meteor going to smash into the planet, or a solar flare and the world would end, it would be a “mandkind free for all”out there. think about it as your doctor telling you you had a week to live? what would you all do?Know look at it as all the welfarer's and jobless would do?

  295. Learning to live off the grid as much as possible if not totally and striving for a self sufficient life style only makes common sense. Learning and honing these skills is a continuous and on going process. To learn more about tractor & equipment maintenance, rural community & farming concerns, off grid living as well as family self sufficient living knowledge, I like this website:

    Feed *you*?

People like you are why this country is going down the toilet.

Yeah, I'd “feed you.” To my pigs.

Actually, Daniel, folks like theghostpony and johnconley *will* be knocking on doors.

    Not politely.

    Not “asking for help.”

But as a mob, stuffed full of the arrogance they display here. Utterly sure that they have the “right”—because there're more of them than there are of you—to take *your* property. And they'll have no problem at all with guns at that point—they rarely do when it's guns in the hands of uniformed government thugs.

    As what?

    “Long pork”?

What can *you* contribute to your neighbors' survival?

Do you have any farming skills? Are you a doctor? A machinist or mechanic?

Can you grow food, fix people, make and fix useful machines?

Or are you just another mouth to feed, shrilly demanding someone help you because, gosh, you're a precious unique snowflake?

I know Mr. Millandred personally and he is a loony= tune. He doesn't in anyway live like his great grand parents. He almost cried when we had a hailstorm and I told him all we had to do was trim off the broken pieces off of the plants. The man (If you can call him that) starts drinking whiskey at 3 in the afternoon. He pulled a gun on an innocent census worker. I would not trust anything he says. Just be warned!

  306. Absolutely freakin' brilliant analysis….I could not have said it better, but have been thinking along these lines for some years now. The 'Preppers' who think they will 'survive' virtually any of the End TImes of Revelation with their guns and ammo, dehydrated food and bottled water are very naive and show a huge lack of knowledge about just how draconian will be the grip of the Antichrist and his Global Government. Living out in the woods ANYWHERE will NOT allow ANYONE to escape the detection of the Nephilim, who have the supernatural abilities (READ: D E M O N I C) to FIND YOU at any time, anywhere. Your shotguns will NOT keep these creatures at bay, but CHRIST will! And, before you scoff and laugh at the fact that I mentioned these ghastly entities, remind yourselves that CHRIST Himself said they would again stalk the Earth in the End Times. And this is just ONE, albeit grave, consideration vis a vis your “survivalist”: plans. It IS an exercise in futility! Pray, research the BIBLE for the answers, NOT the websites replete with the blind leading the blind.

  312. I would imagine that I may not be partially right regarding that.
