Man who threatened to kill Obama pleaded guilty in May

A Missouri man has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for threatening to kill President Barack Obama.

Federal prosecutors say 33-year-old Josh McCallum of Neosho was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis. He pleaded guilty in May.

McCallum was already incarcerated at the Northeast Correctional Center in Bowling Green in August 2009 when he mailed a threatening letter to the White House that read in part, “The president needs to be shot.”

McCallum has been held at the Bowling Green prison since 1999 on tampering and burglary charges. He will serve the federal sentence after his state charges expire in 2018.

His attorney, Felicia Jones, did not respond to interview requests.

I’d be surprised if this rethuglican scum didn’t have a couple of SAM’s in the event of the President flying over Missouri.

  • Anonymous

Well, josh, apparently you like being locked up and that’s good. I just have one thing to ask you. Was that letter worth the 30 months? Your letter really put a spot light on your stupidity and racism. Pay back is a bitch I hope your in the general population because I think there are a few people who might want to argue with you over your opinions.

    Good.

I’d say knock it down to 18 if he’s willing to submit to a public correctional beating He’ll learn from that a lot more than he will from the prison time.

Who else sees Fox News recruiting its newest commentator in a cpl years?

  • Anonymous

Chances are really good that he will only do half the 30 months anyway. Now days, if you’re convicted, at least here in Colorado, they give you one day of “good behavior” for every day you don’t fuck up or die in the slammer. So by the time this guy’s 30 month sentence is half over, assuming he hasn’t gotten in trouble somewhere along the way, he will be done. Then they will put him on probation, so they can screw with him and get money from him instead of just from the state. It’s a hell of a racket, really.

    Damn you Media Matters!

    I call BS on you

RTFM, he is halfway through a 20 year sentence, if what you say were true he could have bargained it down to 10.

He won’t be out of jail until 2020.

This is a “racket”??? Really??? Oh yes he is really “making out” here. He might actually get to set foot outside of prison before he dies of old age. Yes indeed he has really “taken advantage of the system”.

Time to start rounding up the Right Wingers.

    It’s coming Righties … it’s coming.

What about Glenn Beck threatening to kill Michael Moore and Nancy Pelosi? I guess he has too much money to do any time in prison, eh?

The racket I was referring to is the for profit prison industry. Sorry I wasn’t any clearer than that. The PRIVATE companies that run the probation offices (at least in Colorado) LOVE probationers. They get to extort money from them, boss them around, waste their time and send people to jail whenever they feel like it. I’ve been in the middle of it myself, so I can attest to this racket from personal experience.

In the state of Colorado, which granted is not Missouri, you DO get a day off for good behavior for every day you’re “trouble free” while in the slammer. I know people sentenced to 3 years who were indeed out in a year and a half. And then the probation BS started, and some of those people didn’t get off probation for 10 years. It would have been better for them if they stayed in and did the rest of their time. Every probation violation gains you another 6 months or more, if they don’t want to jail you again.

The racket isn’t for the benefit of the scammed, it NEVER is. Geesh, don’t you know that? I have a bridge in NYC I’d like to talk to you about. It’s for the benefit of those who RUN the freaking scam. Like Dick Cheney, who owns lots of stock in one of the worst offenders in the industry.

You read my comment 100% incorrectly, congratulations.

Uh, said nothing about him being republican. I doubt he is wise enough to have a political affiliation.

Please correct me If I am left field and not wriot field, but if it seems i’m basing this on conjecture, please kindly advise. SOOOooo isn’t it a free country or what!! If my mind hasn’t deserted me, the offender from Missouri gets 30 Months? Well, seems I read a simular offense was made threatening the All mitey George Bush and rumor has it that the offender was given a stiff sentence, not a stiff drink, but many years in the real prison, not the Met Life that most political violators become members of.

    Future Republican media star.

So this dumbass is *already* in prison on some other charges (thereby establishing his moral stance on issues that might concern the community) and he’s not even getting out for another 8 years, and he just added two more to that? What, guy, is the thought of giving up free shelter, meals, and healthcare that scary?

  • Anonymous

Maybe ‘Josh the Plumber” like Joe the Plumber that wasn’t & was a tax evader.

  • Anonymous

a white man from Missouri, making threats about a black, Democratic president while in jail in Kentucky. It’s a reasonable suspicion he’s a rethuglican.

  • Anonymous

what a dumbass, or maybe he just loves being in jail.

  • Anonymous

I suppose a dude with that profile could vote repub, but the irony is that poor white trash like should be voting for a Spendocrat that would help him more with handouts or let him out of prison earlier. But I don’t think he has ever voted either way, that was my point.

  • Anonymous

I hope they put him in a section primarily comprised of black gangs – wearing the sign “The president needs to be shot.”

  • Anonymous

Maybe he will be put in a section comprised primarily of black gangs and made to wear the sign “The president needs to be shot.” Not to be cruel punishment, he should only have to wear the sign 1 day.

  • Anonymous

He didn’t directly threaten the president, he said that the present should be shot. And he apparently wrote the letter while in prison himself, with absolutely no opportunity to himself shoot the president, and he was not scheduled to be released until Obama has left office. So, what is this all about, really? It’s about expressing an illegal opinion.

  • Anonymous

This cretin’s life profile looks like every republican’t I know. He would never understand working for a living. Those mental dwarfs that are criminals have one thing in common with all republican’ts: let someone else pay for it.

  • Anonymous

    You’re a fool.

  • Anonymous

You assume “blk gangs” punish him? For what? Because they may have the same skin tones?

    Come on.

Oh, now that’s a real intelligent comment!

I don’t think alot of people know about the corporate corrections business because it hasn’t really been covered in any depth. When it became legal a decade or so ago, alot of small towns were dying to build private prisons for the revenue that they would haul in from the corporate corrections industry. Alot of these small towns also went broke because they went out and borrowed money to build these things and the corporations never bought many of them. So these small towns are dying faster than they would otherwise. It did come up in the AZ thing and apparently, all the prisons in AZ are owned by corps. It doesn’t really surprise me but that’s probably why the AZ govt wants to get these things filled so they get paid for their trouble.

When this guy finally gets out of federal prison (which also may be owned by corporations) he won’t have any civil rights and probably will never be able to get a job with his felony record so he’ll have to go back to his life of crime because it’s the only way he can make any money to live on. He can’t get welfare payments but he could get SSI benefits (which is another boondoggle I don’t like).

  • Anonymous

Josh is a different kind of “plumber” if you know what I mean….

  • Anonymous

Because obviously the logical extension of expressing outrage over a fascist tyrant is that he must be racist. Also that he should deliberately placed in a position to get gang raped by violent black inmates because he disagrees with the super-corrupt policies of the Goldman-Sachs Whitehouse. Would you like to be gang-raped as a punishment for writing an angry letter?

  • Anonymous

After you’re finished putting us in camps then they’ll put you in. That sort of power is frightening and exactly what makes people conservative in the first place. Screw you and the people that liked you’re comment – advocating the internment of citizens based on their political beliefs is very progressive indeed – like Hitler Stalin, Pol Pot and Mao. Shame on you.

  • Anonymous

Doesn’t like Obama = Racist. Thanks mindboggeling I’m enlightened!

  • TheDevilCanDance

Yeah, because Black Gangbangers are obviously voting Democrat?.
I think they are smarter than you think, they probably don’t give a fly fuck about politics.

  • Anonymous

And as every woman knows… people in power simply cannot be thugs if they’re black or… Democrats.

  • Anonymous

Everyone knows that Republicans don’t understand working for a living!

  • TheDevilCanDance

The guy is an asshole but does he deserve to be in jail for running out his mouth?. Does he represent a real threat to the president?.

Obama is never going to see the inside of a prison, despite the fact he is responsible for the murders of 1000′s of innocent civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan & Pakistan.

  • Anonymous

The bad thing about these kind of people are, if they escape out of jail you can’t trace them by their dental records. They have none.

  • Anonymous

Yep, my best friend works his ass off and, gives many people great jobs and treats them very well. Of course he is a repub b/c he sees the waste of the Democrablegs. Lighten up on free enterprise.

  • Anonymous

Completely agree. Most of my peers work hard and make good money. They aren’t neo-conservative warmongers but they are intelligent enough to see that we can spend our own money more wisely. The waste comes not just from the democrats though – it’s just way worse with them. With Obama’s spending they’ve upped the ante on the Bush administration to a level I never thought possible. Freedom! Let’s keep the fruit of our labors! Instead my generous salary is rendered modest with a virtual 50% tax rate. WTF do we live the the eastern bloc?

  • Anonymous

Yes, because he wants to kill the black president. I imagine things are fairly straightforward in prison.

  • Anonymous

How silly. Not because they are Democrats, but because they are black.

And no, I do not think they are smart at all.

  • Anonymous

@ethan: You really take the cake for responses about my comment. You seriously in some part of your mind believe this guy in prison for an extended sentence wanted Obama to die because of Goldman-Sachs?

    You are an idiot.

  • George

    30 months? Thats It?

  • George

Maybe to lazy to get a job, and like other repubs wants to live off taxpayers

  • George

Round up the bastards and send them to the graybar hotel for life.

  • George

Its not on politics at all. they made threats of violence. Thats uncivilised

We in Colorado are pretty involved with the for profit prison industry. We got in on that debacle early on. 30 years ago, we spent $70 million per year on the DOC, now, after the “savings” that privatization has brought us, we spend 11 TIMES that. We spend as much JUST ON CANNABIS LAW as we used to for EVERYTHING. Some savings. Now, my state has the honor of being 3rd in prison spending in the country, while at the same time we are 49th in education spending.

There was a frontline episode a few years ago on what happens to towns that get prisons put in them. Seems that before long, there is NO business going to the community, as there are cheaper places to get what you need to run a prison. And as a result, the community ONLY benefits from those people who work IN the prison. Other than that, there is NO increase in the economy, and most towns that have gotten prisons are doing WORSE than they were before they put the human warehouse in. Adding a prison in the hopes of making things better in the community does exactly the opposite.

This guy is a fool, no question about it. There was a question as to whether he is a racist or not due to his actions. I don’t think it’s possible that he’s not. Look at it this way: He has been locked up for the better part of a decade, and yet he feels it necessary to write a threatening letter to a president he never got to vote for or against? This guy is a racist, NO QUESTION.

He will never get out, unless the state gets tired of holding onto him. And he will no doubt end up right back in the slammer if he does get out. After 20+ years, he will be so institutionalized that he will never be able to be in open society again. Yet another idiot who ruined his own life and we all get to pay for it.

People had better wake up to what the for profit prison industry is dong to this country. We already have more people in prison (over 2 million at last count) and on probation (brings the number up to about 8 million) than any other country in the world. Just like we spend more on “defense” than the rest of the world combined, we are throwing away TRILLIONS on this nonsense. Imagine what we would be able to do for this country if we didn’t waste every penny on making the rich richer at the expense of everyone else. We could feed, clothe and house every person in this country as well as provide for health care if we would just get our heads out of the asses of those who have far more money than brains or compassion. But we are being run by those who think it’s far better to be a world wide prick to everyone rather than to be a world citizen.

What a complete jack-ass, putting his name to a message like that and sending it to the White House. Did he expect security services to just ignore it? What did he think would happen?

There is always something to learn from the left side of the though police, lol

Wrong Denny, they have free medical and dental in prisons that, of course, tax payers pay for.
