Don’t rule out attack on Iran, Blair says

Vice-President Dick Cheney’s vision of completely redrawing the map of the Middle East following the 9/11 attacks is “not stupid,” and is “possible over time,” former British Prime Minister Tony Blair says.

In his new book, A Journey, the former Labour Party leader wrote that Cheney wanted a wholesale reorganization of the political map of the Middle East after 9/11. The vice president “would have worked through the whole lot, Iraq, Syria, Iran, dealing with all their surrogates in the course of it — Hezbollah, Hamas, etc,” Blair wrote.

On ABC’s This Week Sunday, host Christiane Amanpour asked Blair if Cheney “would have gone through all that lot.”

“Dick was always absolutely hard-line on these things,” Blair replied. “I mean, I think he would openly avow this. His worldview was that the world had to be remade after September the 11th.”

Blair added, “But you can’t dismiss that Cheney view and say, well, that’s just stupid. It’s … it’s not. It may require amendment.”

“Is it possible?” Amanpour asked.

“It’s possible over time, with the right combination of hard and soft power, I think, to get to the point where nations that we regard or did regard as threats become allies. But that is not always going to have a hard power solution to it,” Blair said.

Blair also suggested that preemptive military action against another country may be necessary. He said all military options should be on the table when it comes to keeping Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

“It is a problem,” Blair said. “I don’t know. You don’t know. You’re making a calculation of risk. When you’re in the hot seat of decision making you have to decide. Maybe if they got them, they would never use them. But I don’t think, if I was a leader today, and certainly, this is the view I took then, I don’t think I would take the risk.”

“So what would you do?” Amanpour wondered.

“I would tell them they can’t have it and if necessary they will be confronted with stronger sanctions and diplomacy. But if that fails, I’m not taking any option off the table,” said Blair.

“So you see a military possibility against Iran?” the ABC host asked.

“I don’t want to see it,” Blair replied.

“But you’re saying it has to happen,” Amanpour pressed.

“I don’t want to see it but I’m saying you cannot exclude it because the primary objective has got to be to prevent them from getting a nuclear weapon,” said Blair.

This video is from ABC’s This Week, broadcast Sept. 5, 2010.

Let’s see now. Attack Iran. The Gulf is closed to shipping. Oil goes to $300 a barrel. Hyperinflation hits the West. Great idea, Tony.

Tony Blair is a murdering warmongeing monster. If his latest statements don’t open the world’s eyes to what he is nothing will.

Dick Cheney decided to redraw the Middle East long before the Eleventh of September. That has been proven to a certainty.

Were we to have real investigations into 9/11 and Iraq, the American people would call for Blair’s head. And get it. But because we have an asshole named Barack Obama as president, there is no accountability for the most dangerous criminals on the face of the planet.

Barack Obama is a madman. Please don’t ever forget it.

All costs figured for the American people for the Iraq War – 4 plus trillion dollars. It made us less capable by far of dealing with the recession and lowered our standing in the world.

If we go to war in Iran, it’ll be many times more expensive than Iraq, both in life and treasure. And we will be screwed forever.

Tony doesn’t care…he got HIS cash and HIS kids won’t go to war.

Cheney was part of the Project for a New American Century. PNAC is a conservative think tank that advocated the re-drawing of the middle east during the 1990′s. PNAC also sent a letter to Bill Clinton demanding the immediate invasion and occupation of Iraq in 1998. Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Feith etc were all signatories to this letter. Anyone who thinks the debacle in Iraq that we started in 2003 was a reaction to 9/11 is only fooling themselves. Bill Clinton told Bush that terrorism and Bin Laden were the number 1 threat to the country. Bush placed OBL and his tactics at #5 with… Iraq as #1. So we all need to realize that the real planning for our Iraq adventure was consumatted by the appointment of GWB by the Supreme Court.

Cheney’s wet dream was no secret.

Cheney was first in power Bush Jr was second. All Cheney needed to keep Junior busy was a bicycle and a string of photo opts for junior to attend.

    Really?
Might be nice if the copy (or even Amanpour) wondered if his praise of Cheney’s plan to re-draw the map of the Middle East is the position accepted by the Quartet?
After all, BLiar is appointed as the Quartet’s Middle East Envoy.
Is that his ‘opinion’ or the Quartet’s?
In either case, wouldn’t blame any Middle East country to reject his credentials and see him to the border based on his ‘musings’.
Tony Blair is a bona fide western megalomaniac Madman straight out of the pages of history…no doubt about it.

It amazes me, how few people even know about WTC7.

Cheney and 9/11, go hand in hand.

It’s Devil’s Advocate time: Sure, why not redraw the MidEast map? It was done 90 years ago, it can be done again. Remember that 100 years ago, between Suez and Siam (Thailand), only Persia (Iran) and Afghanistan had anything like their current borders. That entire segment of the world is now totally a construct of Western powers.

Ah, but the problem is that if, even if scrubbed clean, the same sort of autocratic a$$hole$ would gain power, installed by and colluding with global industrialists interested only in sucking-out the remaining petroleum. As long as oil rules, peace is impossible. But if peace prevailed, the Pentagon’s budget would need slashing. What a pickle!

Remember Dubya’s tax cuts? We’re up to US$3 trillion and counting. Now, suppose that in early 2001, Dubya had announced a solar program. A mix of (de)centralized solar facilities would power every home, office, and many factories in USA. No, it would come nowhere near supplanting the need for oil, but it WOULD cut or eliminate dependence on MidEast oil. All squabbling sheiks, ayatollahs and imams could go play with themselves, and the rest of us could ignore them. And how much has USA invasion of Iraq etc cost? About US$2 trillion. The cost of the solar program I mentioned? I won’t do the math here, but it’s around US$4 trillion. Imagine that. Less than the tax cuts AND the invasion and occupation.

Every move Dubya’s gang made served to bolster terrorists, weaken USA militarily and economically, strengthen China and Iran, and profit a small group of super-rich. But none dare call it treason…

  • BobtheDog

I loved this guy when he came into office. Now he is just a TOOL!!! Hate him. Man, was I fooled by the english accent. I never knew he was such a god-squad guy. For him toactually agree with Cheney, and then to listen to these stupid, beat-around-the bush answers. Terrible.

Bottomline: Lets get out of the wars, cut thedefense department budget by 200b (its over 700B last time I checked) and start rebuilding this country. I would even go for this proposal: If we end the wars and cut the defense departmen budgett…I would be in favor of cutting marginally tax rates down to 25% across the board. But, it would have to come with significant defense cuts. Otherwise, the powers that be are still in charge of our money. Oh, another solution is to just keep money out of politics. Public financing of all campaigns going forward in the US> g

Bush said the if we didn’t go on to attack Iran now, then there would have to be another war.
Does that mean another “911″? What will they think up next time?
Something like… Iran attacks Whitehouse in an assassination plot that killed President Obama. Former President Bush in an interview from the attack site, says that there is nothing to worry about and that he is in charge according to the Constitution being that he was the last qualified President by the Constitution because Obama was not born in the United States.

  • Anonymous

The degree of arrogance is breathtaking. To use protracted war to ‘redraw’ the map of the Middle East as it it were pieces on a monopoly board is stupefying. In someways it lends credence to the possibility that 9/11 was a false flag operation set in place to justify the wholesale destruction of the Middle East. Cheney would not be so keen if external forces did not like the current configuration of the US States and wanted to rearrange them because they could.

  • quincunx

Yes, but we will be paid for that war and it will pull us out of resession,
and with the reduced population in the US (and Iran under control, paying war reparations and its oil privitized and under US control), we can start a new Baby Boom that will reap riches for those that position themselves now.

    Have you heard that before?

  • quincunx

That is why we have to stay at war and stomp on anyone that threatens us,
because they are envious of our freedoms (to go to war…)

The same freedoms that the ENEMY is envy of us for.
The same freedoms the Goopers took away from us — for our own protection?

  • quincunx

Your problem is that you are not patriotic; you don’t love America!
Support your freedom government with your treasure.
Many patriots did regain their treasure, by divine action, when they got insider
information of certain now-historical-facts. As Bush said, “It is not against the law for the President (and obviously his friends/allys) to make money off of coming events (even if they might signal the enemy). In Bush’s heaven on earth the faithful give all and recieve all.

    You don’t count!

The NeoCon Project for a New American Century (PNAC) called for, among other things, the remaking of the Middle East by invasion and conquest. The first country on the list was Iraq. The NutJob white paper explicitly stated that a Pearl Harbor-like event would be necessary to sell the American people on invading the Middle East. Guess what happened shortly after Bush and Cheney took office.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_for_the_New_American_Century

Calls for regime change in Iraq during Clinton years
On January 16, 1998, following perceived Iraqi unwillingness to co-operate with UN weapons inspections, members of the PNAC, including Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, and Robert Zoellick drafted an open letter to President Bill Clinton, posted on its website, urging President Clinton to remove Saddam Hussein from power using U.S. diplomatic, political, and military power. The signers argue that Saddam would pose a threat to the United States, its Middle East allies, and oil resources in the region, if he succeeded in maintaining what they asserted was a stockpile of Weapons of Mass Destruction. They also state: “we can no longer depend on our partners in the Gulf War to continue to uphold the sanctions or to punish Saddam when he blocks or evades UN inspections” and “American policy cannot continue to be crippled by a misguided insistence on unanimity in the UN Security Council.” They argue that an Iraq war would be justified by Hussein’s defiance of UN “containment” policy and his persistent threat to U.S. interests.[10]

Before anyone trashes this man, stop and think about it for a moment, look at that map, look where the real problems are, and understand what he is saying without taking it out of context. The reality is there is a lot of truth to these arguments, and maybe we should be thinking there. Trashing the former President and Vice President of the US is silly, it’s just more persnickety leftist media and blog hits on their personal character. Some of the comments below are really pathetic, and I sure wish people had a little more indepth knowledge prior to spouting such nonsense. But maybe since they don’t have jobs, they are busy online trashing and lashing out at that which they clearly don’t understand. There is a lot more to this story, than the nasty comments of folks like Rachel Maddow.

Lance, I’ve lived in the Middle East for 13 years. Let me share a concept or two: 1). We did not capture or kill Osama Bin Laden because we diverted money and resources to a needless war in Iraq. Therefore, without swift retribution, Osama’s actions (on 911) were justified in the eyes of God and the people of Islam–”God’s Will.” 2). The leadership in America (Bush Admin) attempted to minimize the importance of capturing Osama by saying “he’s hiding in a cave”— keep in mind, the holy prophet of Islam, Mohammed himself, hid in caves while killing infidels. Hiding in a cave may show Osama’s cowardice in western culture but he’s elevated to a much higher status in the Islamic cultures. —–Cheney and Blair can re-write the map all they want but Islam knows no boundaries.

He’s an absolute madman and warmonger, just like Cheney/Bush and Now With Obama. Peace by Force…Pre-emptively striking those countries before they supposedly strike us. You already have nations that are fascist dictatorships with radicals who have nuclear weapons. Should we attack them as well and dismantle their programs? Of course not because some of those countries are our allies and conform to American & European Demands. Demands that line the pockets of the Elite with power and cash. There is absolutely no question there are radicals in Saudi Arabia, in fact 15 of the 19 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. Not only that but according to leaked intelligence (through cia & fbi whistleblowers) it was the Saudi Arabian “ROYAL” family who was financing the terrorists. These classified documents indicated time and time again that it was the Saudi Royal Family who were financing & backing radicals. According to the Washington Post Obama exonerated the Royal Family by stating they all had Sovereign Immunity. The Post went on to say that none of the classified documents would be acceptable in a court of law so the Family Members of the 911 Victims who are seeking a new investigation would never be allowed to bring up the documents in a court of law. Isn’t that convenient. So it’s perfectly ok to be the Master Mind and Financer behind Acts of Terrorism if you have strong connections to the U.S. Once you start to assemble the facts you can always see through the lies.

  • http://headlock.myopenid.com/ Headlock

The only thing wrong with this argument is that Cheney and a whole host of others were behind 9/11. It’s fairly obvious by now. Building 7 was never hit by a plane, somehow pancaked all by itself, shows small explosions in released videotape, and returned Larry Silverstein (owner) billions of dollars in insurance claims. Might I add that dozens of eye witnesses claim to have heard small explosions, Silverstein admitted that a demolition team “visited’ the site days prior, and recent studies prove that THERMITE, a compound used in demolitions (to weaken steel) was found all over area. LOOK IT UP.

If this was a criminal case involving your Average Joe, all that evidence would send him to the slammer.

Considering the suspicious ‘suicide’ of the WMD whistleblower in the UK, and the recent call to reopen the case, Blair is likely involved as well on some level.

It is time to clean house, folks.

  • RioRico

As I mentioned below, redrawing the map isn’t impossible — it’s happened before, it’ll happen again. China and India are both too weak to stop any concerted colonialist cartomancy. As noted elsewhere, the Chinese leadership are very nervous about the winding-down in Iraq. USA likes to have enemies, and the Chinese fear they’ll be next on the list, complete with regime change and border rectification. And viewing Iraq, the Chinese also have a taste of the insurgency to expect if they invade Taiwan. India can’t even organize the Commonwealth games, let alone keep Kashmir.

Britain no longer has a territorial empire. Big deal. They’re still a major nuclear player. The world’s money flows through London. Territory means target. Even as Dubya’s bitch, Blair still had more force at his fingertips than anyone outside DC. You do *NOT* want to be on the receiving end of a fossil’s attention.

  • RioRico

Sorry, “911-Truther” claims have been debunked; they’re in the realm of pseudoscience and wishful thinking. The actual conspiracy is just a little more subtle. Dubya’s father worked for Osama’s father — GHW Bush was a paid employee of the Carlisle Group, of whom Bin Laden Senior is a principal (owner). The Bush-Cheney gang didn’t have to stage the 9/11 attacks, they just signed-off on them. None dare call it treason.

  • http://headlock.myopenid.com/ Headlock

Uh…you just described a ‘conspiracy’. And if you can go that far, how exactly are “911-Truther claims debunked”?

Have you been reading Popular Mechanics again? Or perhaps you heard it on the History Channel? Or was something your sister read in Cosmo? Maybe it was laughed at on ESPN? Or jeered at locally in the Houston Chronicle or the Albany Times? Perhaps ALL of these media outlets, with ALL of their hundreds of experts convinced you that 9/11 Truth has been debunked. That would have been easy, since they are all owned or partially owned by Hearst Corporation, one of the largest beneficiaries of advertising dollars from US military and government agencies in the world. One head, many tentacles.

Forget the hyperbole. Disregard the name-calling. Look at the facts surrounding 9/11 honestly. You already conceded a ‘conspiracy’, so your good name is tainted. You might as well go all the way down the rabbit hole and get the whole story.

  • EndTheNWO

False. Despite the best efforts of the MSM and intelligence agencies nothing has been “debunked”, just officially ignored. I won’t detail all of the evidence again but I will ask a few questions :

    1) Why did NIST reject a Freedom of Information Act request to release the data sets used in their black box computer simulation of the destruction of WT7? (They asserted it would harm national “security”! I think they can’t because it’s junk).

    2) Why has the FBI refused to release any of the area security tapes confiscated of the supposed 757 crash into the Pentagon? (The small video available shows nothing. There is no evidence of a large aircraft crash and the initial photos and MSM reportage on 9/11 show only a small hole and NO wreckage.).

    3) Why did the 9/11 Commission stop all analysis of the WTC1 and WTC2 destruction on the onset of what they called the “inevitable collapse”? (They simply ignored the subsequent video, audio, thermal and seismic evidence and reports from survivors and first responders).

    4) Why did the 9/11 Commission not even mention WTC7 in the final report?

You’re quite right to suspect Bush/Cheney as the real perpetrators but the evidence simply puts the lie to the “Official Government Conspiracy Theory”. Who engineered it and executed it and why they did is a different subject than what actually happened. The 9/11 commission is a joke. Bush/Cheney resisted the investigation for 18 months. The commissioners did exactly what they were instructed to do : Rubber stamp a final report written by the Pentagon and the CIA.

  • EndTheNWO

Great points. Just follow the evidence and disregard what the MSM and their Pentagon and CIA handlers tell them to say. It’s all disinformation and has been since 9/12/2001.

  • Jenifer Lewis

Blair says, “[Cheney's] worldview was that the world had to be remade after September the 11th.”

Apparently Blair doesn’t know anything about the matter. Cheney’s worldview was exactly the same on September 12th as it was on September 10th, something Blair would have know had he possessed even fleeting knowledge about the Project for the New American Century.

A war criminal writing a book. He calls himself a democrat from a democratic country. Someone arrest this war criminal! Why is he free? He must be put on trial for killing so many people and destroying a country’s infra-structure. He has blood on his hand. You people who interview him have also blood on your hand. He must be in jail, not being interviewed.

    Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
    Evil minds that plot destruction,
    sorcerers of death’s construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
    Death and hatred to mankind,
    poisoning their brainwashed minds.
    Oh lord, yeah!

    Politicians hide themselves away.
    They only started the war.
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah.

Time will tell on their power minds,
    making war just for fun.
Treating people just like pawns in chess,
wait till their judgement day comes, yeah.

Now in darkness world stops turning,
    ashes where the bodies burning.
No more War Pigs have the power,
Hand of God has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, God is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
    Begging mercies for their sins,
    Satan, laughing, spreads his wings.
    Oh lord, yeah!
    –Black Sabbath, War Pigs
