Dems challenge TSA to justify enhanced pat-downs

A retired teacher from Lansing, Michigan, says he had to walk through an airport and board a plane covered in urine after TSA agents tore open his urostomy bag during a pat-down.

Thomas Sawyer, a 61-year-old survivor of bladder cancer, was flagged for an enhanced screening at Detroit Metropolitan Airport Nov. 7 after a metal detector picked up the urostomy bag in his pants. The medical device collects urine through an opening in the stomach. MSNBC reports:

Due to his medical condition, Sawyer asked to be screened in private. “One officer looked at another, rolled his eyes and said that they really didn’t have any place to take me,” said Sawyer. “After I said again that I’d like privacy, they took me to an office.”

“One agent watched as the other used his flat hand to go slowly down my chest. I tried to warn him that he would hit the bag and break the seal on my bag, but he ignored me. Sure enough, the seal was broken and urine started dribbling down my shirt and my leg and into my pants.”

The security officer finished the pat-down, tested the gloves for any trace of explosives and then, Sawyer said, “He told me I could go. They never apologized. They never offered to help. They acted like they hadn’t seen what happened. But I know they saw it because I had a wet mark.”

Humiliated, upset and wet, Sawyer said he had to walk through the airport soaked in urine, board his plane and wait until after takeoff before he could clean up.

Sawyer says he plans to file a complaint against the TSA. A spokesman for the agency said they will “review the matter and take appropriate action if necessary.”

Sawyer’s story is the latest in a string of anecdotes that suggests some TSA agents are dismissive or unconcerned with air travelers’ medical conditions. In one incident reported earlier this week, a flight attendant who survived breast cancer was forced to expose her prosthetic breast to TSA employees.

DEMS CHALLENGE TSA TO JUSTIFY PAT-DOWNS

Two House Democrats, including the chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, have sent a letter (PDF) to TSA Administrator John Pistole asking him to “reconsider” the new screening procedures.

“While we agree that security measures should be enhanced in the wake of recent attempted terrorist attacks on the aviation system, we are concerned about new enhanced pat down screening protocols and urge you to reconsider the utilization of these protocols. With Thanksgiving Day marking the beginning of the busiest travel season of the year, this request is timely,” the letter stated.

It was signed by Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MI), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX).

The letter also challenges Pistole to justify the decision to offer “enhanced pat-downs” as the alternative for passengers who choose to opt out of the full body scanners. The letter requests that Pistole provide the committee with all documents “that support the TSA’s decision to implement the enhanced pat-down procedure.”

That may prove difficult. Jeffrey Goldberg at the Atlantic reported last month that a TSA agent told him the pat-down procedure, which involves the touching of breasts and genitals, was simply a bullying technique meant to get passengers inside the full body scanner.

“Nobody’s going to do it [choose the pat-down],” the agent reportedly said, “once they find out what we’re going to do.”

This is all about control. This machines unsafe and untested. The machines and gropings are illegal and most importantly IMMORAL.

From an engineer’s perspective who’s researched the available data, whole body mass was used to calculate radiation exposure, not skin surface, and, there is no available testing data.

Flying is done safely and has been done safely without any of this for GSA and charter passengers, well, forever. They don’t give up their constitutional rights to fly, so why do commercial passengers need to either.

And Groping – ILLEGAL and IMMORAL not any way to paint this as acceptable.

As an aside, on my last groping, I noticed that 60% of the people chosen for screenings were large breasted women. Since when have large breasted women been a security threat. If so, half of the women in Orange County would be in prison.

Nature abhors a vacuum and the TSA is no acception.

Since the TSA’s Wally World employees probably spend 7 + hours per day in close proximity to porno terahertz radiation, their DNA’s protein communication will eventually be so corrupted (just like the voyeurism and sexual assaults they’re trying to ‘rationalize’) that most of them will be unemployable cancer patients. Very few Human Beings (if any) will have any sympathy for them.
Kharma is a good thing. When Darwinism is involved it can even be funny.

Conservative estimates are that every year at US airports, 400 + Million innocent American Men, Women and Children are strip searched, harassed, groped, fondled, humiliated, $Millions worth of Personal Property is stolen from them –
    - while Millions of Cargo Containers enter US Ports with no ‘searches’ whatsoever.
    WTF?

To say nothing about the public threat of the TSA spreading Biohazards groping at innocent pregnant Women!

Michael Chertoff is making off like a bandit with this charade and profiting obscenely from microwave scanners, sleazy porno security theatres, and dregrading Millions of innocent Americans at US airports.

This is the same “dual citizen” Michael Chertoff who’s been trying to cover up/censor New York Police’s 9/11/01 ARRESTS of the “5 dancing Israeli” Mossad agents (dressed to look like “Arabs”) who were caught RED HANDED on 9/11 trying to blow up New York’s Washington Bridge.

When New York Police arrested them, they found $4400 in cash, Israeli passports, pictures of highlighted American landmarks, videos of the Twin Towers’ demolition with the agents celebrating and “Box Cutters”.

One of the Israelis even had the temerity to flick a cigarette lighter in front of the camera smiling like a kid at a rock concert while 3,000 innocent people gruesomely died that day.

That is Alien Mind Rot Evil.

It’s interesting (and revealing) to note that the same Israeli agents also blew up the moving van that had a mural on it’s side with the words “9/11″ with a picture of Jetliners crashing into the Twin Towers!

Michael Chertoff used his power as former Attorney General to release the Israeli thugs and send them back to Israel. On Israeli television, these same Massad agents stated that “our purpose was to document the event”.

So, how does one “document an event” without having FOREKNOWLEDGE of the event?

But good, obediant and bigoted Americans are supposed to hate every Muslim Man, Woman and Child on this planet, support killing them all and obediantly get microwaved on defrost, right?

    Enough is enough.

No one can be loyal to two countries at the same time. It is a lie
worse than Bigamy. It is Treason. “Dual citizens” will either serve one country at the expense of the other or they will be loyal to one country while spying on the other, and they obscenely enrich themselves doing both. Kharma is catching up fast with undesirables like Michael Chertoff and they deserve no one’s sympathy.

The “9/11″ scam has been used as an excuse to destroy America’s Constitutional Republic, turn it into a Tyrannical Police State and deceive/lie our Children into destroying themselves in endless Mid East Conquest Wars for Israel.

ALL 9/11 False Flag Serial Mass Murders need to be given a Fair Trial. If found guilty, they deserve to be Sentenced with Extreme Prejudice. Nothing else will ever do.

America needs Honorable Leaders who actually place their allegiance to America’s Constitutional Republic, First and Foremost, not to Tel Aviv. If their alligance belongs to a foreign country then move there and take the fear&war mongering with them!
No One touches my penis except for me and my wife!

These machines are being used because some corporation is making money selling them to the government.

There are only 2 things that matter in this country. That some rich white guy is getting richer and that the employees of that rich white guy are making as little money as possible.

Public safety doesn’t matter, nothing matters but those 2 points.

The Israelis have a highly effective airport security system that is not intrusive to the passengers and, more important, does not invade the passengers’ privacy. But it requires a highly trained and qualified staff (expensive) and no rich white guy is getting richer.

So it’s a system you’ll never see implemented in the United States.

    If I leave the country

  • Knot

There used to be a circus sideshow freak act called the ‘Human Crockpot’ that would swallow meals in bladders that were attached to a string, heat it up internally, and then bring it up for the finale.

Shock-tube detonators are non-metallic, and so is ANFO explosive, so it would be simple for someone to swallow the components of a bomb before boarding a plane, pass through either the pat-down or x-ray and then assemble and ignite the bomb on the plane. They could also stick such a device into one of the many orifices on the human body.

Obviously, the only defense against this is to make all passengers vomit, defecate, urinate, and have their sinuses screened with a pipe cleaner during the screening process, otherwise none of us will be safe.

Of course, all recent scars should be opened to check for sub-surface implants, and eyeballs should be checked with a sharp object, as well, in case someone has replaced one of them with a bomb.

We can never be too safe.

My husband was screamed at in the Seattle airport when he had the nerve to hand my mother her shoes while she was being screened. After 2 hip replacements, there isn’t a metal detector that won’t light up when she walks through. She’s 85 and having to bend over to get things is hard for her. The woman realized she made an ass of herself and tried to make nice when her work was done. Being a fiesty Irish grandma, my mother didn’t give her an inch. I agree with other postings and ask why we’re allowing these petty tyrants to mistreat us when we travel. My heart goes out to this man who warned them and he still left wet with his own urine. There’s no excuse for this bullying.

Instead of flying out – stage a Fly Out. When the airports are empty the TSA goons will out of a job. Easy for me to say because I stopped flying years ago, but it’s a choice that we all have to make.

Another alternative is to adopt the Israeli method of training agents to ask a few simple questions, then more if something arouses suspicion. Of course you have to employ people who are reasonably smart rather than the current crop of thugs, but you can also save millions by not buying scanners from Chertoff and Company.

But then there goes all that lobbying money…

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZDBCUTOR7XW24NTIF7XEHLJ34Q Oz

It is becoming more and more dehumanizing and degrading. This is how they compensate the low paid TSA agents; they give them “Power” over others. Seattle has been the worst offenders I have seen. There is a blond bitch there who goes out of her way to make people upset. She told me she was the supervisor. Next time I went through she was running the bag screening machine and was not the supervisor. She recognized me. She ran, re-ran & re-ran my bag until her supervisor got annoyed with her. She was giggling. Seattle is the reason I don’t fly any more.

I was in that tube train when a woman in a wheel chair was being pushed to access the train, and a TSA agent (On break?) watched as the doors shut ON her and her assistant. They pulled her out of the way as the train took off.

He looked at me like a thug and said: “They know better.” I guess ‘they’ were Asian and should have ‘known better’? Racism was hard to miss. The creep flirted with me after that.

TSA employees should undergo a course in sensitivity training, and must show empathy and respect to travellers. There is no justification for this heartless uncaring disrespectful treatment to anyone. Would any of them like this treatment to be meted out to them or their relatives? Doubt it very much.

Even in ’03 I ran into this stuff. In Cincinatti I was pulled out of line for a major checkover and the agents stood behind me telling me what to do. This would have been fine but I am 75% deaf. I told them so about eight times and each time they got madder. If the super had not intervened I would still have been there, while my 11 year old daughter would have been airborne without me. I now travel exclusively by TRAIN. Lobby for rail, folks, it’s the way to buffalo the shoe bombers. TSA is turning airline passengers into 2 types: Sadists and Masochists. The Sadists would love to have the inspector do a ‘grope too far’ so that they can wreak massive violence in the violator. The Masochists say:” What the Hell?” and allow the gropers free reign.
There’s no compromise in a bad system. (Last resort. Try having the inspectors wear blue masks blue gloves, and black tights….It could work.)

Air travel has become a truly rotten experience. I wonder how many people simply forego going if they have to fly. We travel closer to home, rarely fly anymore for that reason. Recreational travel may to less than business travel, but imagine if the airlines lost just 10% of their passengers how it would hurt their bottom line. 10% would not necessarily mean fewer flights, but flights with empty seats.

    “Are they all SEIU members?”

The TSA was created after 9/11 by the Bush administration, and the top-levels are as anti-union as you can imagine any right-wing creation to be. Not only do they have no rights to collective bargaining, they are an ‘open-shop’ so they are not represented by any union, and most employees have no union affiliation whatsoever. The National Treasury Employees Union probably has the most members that work for there, but the TSA is essentially a conglomeration of independent contractors, that usually pay their employees as little as possible, and provide the least benefits, which is how they win the contracts, which generally go to the lowest bidder.

The TSA may have a vote soon to join the AFGE, the NTEU or the SEIU and get the rights of collective bargaining, but as of now they are mostly slightly above minimum wage employees with no representation, no job security, and employed by large corporate contractors rather than directly by the government.

Due to the large amount of independent contractors and privatization, by most countries standards the TSA would be considered a collection of private enterprises, rather than a government entity. As far as union representation goes, there are nearly as free enterprise (low wages, no benefits, few rights, private profit) as a large organization could be.

Although unfortunate that such an event occurred, the TSA agent responsible should be reprimanded. Don’t blame the new enhanced pat downs. Thank you! That was incredibly informative and illuminating! And unsurprising, except re the absurd extent those characters in the Bush era went to implement neoliberalism. I still can’t get my head around the fact so many in America left and right went for that ridiculous, impractical and unjust ideology. Who in their right mind would think freedom meant the freedom of corporations, the very entities this country was created to oppose, to trammel human freedom and be unhindered by concerns about human safety and dignity, let alone our poignantly vulnerable biosphere? Yet a whole generation did, all stemming sickeningly from the failed assassination attempt of Reagan, before which he was a profoundly unpopular president, as he should have stayed. But then he got shot, and his survival precipitated a cascade of unfortunate events from which we are still trying to recover. Only one of which is the TSA, but it’s certainly an exquisitely appalling paradigm, so awful it’s the first issue to unite the right and left in ages.

Isn’t it just amazing that Chertoff makes & pimps body scanners, and the Underwear Bomber appears about the same time? Who could have known there would be a Undi-Bomber? Even Condi could not have thought of that one.

It makes me wonder if the Undi-bomber was just a marketing tool for Chertoff’s machines. The evidence at the time indicated he appeared to be someone’s patsy. Alas, again this past week, the US has again been caught ‘testing’ bomb safety in a foreign country –right in time for the holidays!

Has anybody in the Homeland Security Nuthouse run by Janet Napolezbotano and her TSA minions ever thought that the last time anyone boarded an airplane in the USA to attack the USA by using the plane as a bomb was 9/11/01 and that since then, all attempts to attack the USA by plane have originated overseas where body scanners and cargo scanners are rarely if ever employed to check the human and other cargo? Have they? Do we pay them for stupidly attacking our dignity and making us into human cattle? Nowadays I feel freer and safer when I visit Communist China than I feel in the United States. Chinese airport security is a goddamned treat to deal with compared to TSA. You know this country has gone to the dogs when you have to compare it with China, and China comes out ahead! The Chinese economy is growing stronger than the US’, its people have more economic rights than American citizens, and pretty soon I wouldn’t doubt it if the Chinese had more civil liberties to boot. It’s sickening what the fascist bastards in the American Ruling Class have done to the once mighty and proud United States.

The TSA procedures are OBEDIENCE TRAINING of adults. The only way to change the behavior of the TSA is for the passengers to get pat downs instead of scanned. 1st,the TSA doesn’t want pat downs and it will disrupt processing of passengers thereby creating chaos for the airlines as their schedules will be affected. Unfortunately, this would required acts of heroism by Americans whom are cowards and don’t know how to look out for their best interests. The TSA obedience training will continue and Americans will allow themselves to be cowered and pushed around by the TSA goons which will only result in increased abuses by the government onto the American ” sheeple”.

The American form of liberty (for other nations made that claim too – including Britain) was premised in the freedom of the individual. That individuals would, or could or should unite to form a bigger entity did not remove any of that individual Liberty, but it could affect how groups of free individuals interacted to preserve that liberty – there was a civil war fought over that issue. The ‘safety’ of the individual was never a consideration of that liberty he had, right from the start liberty required risk.

So now we’re being sold a trade mark brand of Liberty where the ‘safety’ of the person sitting beside you for an hour or two, and in a roundabout way yours, too, requires the abrogation of every body elses’ right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness by a government agency. Had that been the premise of liberty, we’d still be singing God Save the Queen and Wills might be marrying a Boston girl.

This policy is a disgrace to the the Constitution and the Bill of Rights that explicitly prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures. Appalling. Michael Chertoff, the former Director of Homeland Security, is the world’s top salesman and promoter of the TSA scanners — because, he is a principal stakeholder in their manufacture, and he profits heavily from their sale. Chertoff admitted recently that Michael Hayden, a former Director of Central Intelligence, is on his board along with several other former CIA officers. Shameful. This is government corruption at its worst.

I have a close relative who manages baggage operations at a major US east coast airport. About two months ago I complained to her that items often go missing from my checked bags when I travel in the US. I have always assumed that it was the baggage handlers who were responsible. She was adamant that they are too closely watched now and it is the TSA people, who having either opened or X rayed a bag and found that someone was dumb enough to leave an Iphone or piece of jewelry in it, will often just pocket it. They can open bags surreptitiously without leaving evidence now because they have keys to all common bag locks and the back door to combination locks.

Guess what- the Jordanians haven’t lost another plane.

Concern for the well being (not wellbeing) of one’s countrymen is not advocating the violation of their rights, privileges and dignity for no good reason. This system guarantees nothing, other than justifiable passenger outrage. Concern is having the courage to stand up to senseless invasions of privacy such as this policy represents. Perhaps the US could regain some of its former respect and support around the world if more people had the courage to defend the values America was founded upon.

I don’t need someone with a third grade command of the English language to tell me that I should bend over and take it from an increasingly paranoid, violent, corrupt and invasive government. As far as flying being a privilege not a right is concerned, first, this is an irrelevant observation given the context of this discussion, and secondly, considering the alternatives available to people traveling outside of their home towns it is a necessity, not a privilege. Funny ain’t it??

Maybe the airport was in a field? Maybe unicorns escorted him personally to the airplane? We’re given remarkable detail about the pat-down search including expressions from the TSA guards, yet skips over the one key logical detail which would explain why he was *forced* to sit in urine until after takeoff? That’s sensationalistic, manipulative or both. It earns the earmark of BS. He may very well have had his urine bag breeched by cold, heartless TSA guards, but the claim that he *had* to board the plane and wait until after takeoff before he could clean up is suspect.

  • Anonymous

The mere fact that he HAD to clean himself up is an outrage, regardless of whether it was before or after he boarded the flight. Suspend your inspection of that tree. There is an entire forest here.

Stop the right-wing anti-SEIU talking points. TSA is still non-union. Thanks to the FLRA, they finally get a vote on whether or not to unionize early next year. SEIU is not one of the unions trying to represent them.

They already did the plane thing. Why would a terrorist go through the trouble of building a bomb and then try and get it on a plane. The bomb could be as large as they want to make it and packed in a car, truck or worn as a vest. It is sensational to think about the plane thing constantly and keeps the Chertoffs of the world with a strong demand for their product.

If we are going to be targetted by someone there are plenty of tunnels, water distribution systems, bridges and electrical systems that would cause us damage. To do that they do not need to disguise themselves as Real Americans from Oklahoma and hide explosives under their scrotums.

I think people are over reacting about the pat downs.

We could do something like create a database based on intelligence so the focus would be more on suspected passengers but so far I have yet to hear an argument about that being just as if not more invasive as a body pat down. So I can only conclude that even though this issue is becoming mainstreamed there’s really no serious debate about what’s being done past peoples perception of real privacy.

    [scenario 1]
A strange man pats you down while explaining from a script exactly what he’s doing. You’re now walking towards your arriving flight.

    [scenario 2]
A strange man pulls you towards the side area. He calmly asks you a series of ‘verifying’ questions then proceeds to ask about a specific web site you visited about a month ago and lastly the questioning ends up inquiring about your intentions while putting gas in your car at the corner market on the other side of your town.
You’re now walking towards your arriving flight.

The last “terrorist” episode was one of those pre-election day events that gets the right wing base juiced up for a big vote. This time, it had the added benefit of delivering to the security industry a windfall profit from the ordering and implementation of the x-ray machines, and of justifying the use of these machines, and the alternative “enhanced pat-downs”, as privacy violations. The explosives from Yemen were conveniently designed to normalize the security searches in the US. Billions of dollars are invested in enhanced security. It’s worth the cost to set up a false flag operation in order for a normalization of privacy violations to have a modicum of acceptance. Of course, the corporatist media delivers this news to the public, and now a vast majority of the population has accepted the violation of their privacy as a necessary evil.

It was beautifully executed in classic “Disaster Capitalism” fashion.

    And we’re all suckers.

This is being called guilty until proven innocent. Our country was founded because of this kind of nonsense. I’ve traveled abroad and had one of their ‘interrogations’. The worst that happened to me was I caught off guard by a legitimate question. The questioner was so polite, I felt no indignity whatsoever. The whole process was less time than a body scanner or pat down. I was not thrown to the ground, patted down, nor had any of my body parts molested.

Don’t take it personally. At this time there really isn’t a pushback that’s worth the investment in time and money. Avenues of dialog were cut off long ago. Obama had a great campaign in 2008 because he spoke to the huge segments of the population that really wanted change that included communication between them and the powerful elite that Obama potentially represented. Once Obama got in office, he turned his back on his base. With the media gone corporatist, with the Dems playing footsy with corporatists, with billions being spent of the corporatists’ agenda, the rest of us have been cut off from engagement in political discourse. FoxNews is only one of the firewalls built to cut us off.

What’s left are actual demonstrations in the streets of the US. But that will only occur when the unemployed get desperate enough to (turn off their TVs and) risk their well-being. The working middle-class and working poor are struggling too much to take time off for demonstrations. Once there’s nothing left to lose, we’ll see the streets filled with angry people, long-ago enraged at the ruling elites, but finally realizing that their plight has profound consequences for themselves and their children.

Look… millions of people were led into gas chambers and furnaces and firing squads and mass burial sites before being summarily executed in the Nazi era. What makes you think that “they’ve gone too far” this time? They can go as far as they want until they’re stopped by a force greater than they are. But at this time, there is no opposing force. The foxes are, indeed, running the hen house, with no one to stop them.

  • BigBuck

TO get into the safety deposit box vault in my bank, I input a 5-digit code and a handprint.

    4. I will inform said TSA pansy that I will exercise my ABSOLUTE human right of self-defense to physically respond to a sexual assault.

Both the invasive pat downs (like as if you’re being booked into jail) or the super body scanners are unnecessary. If terrorists are dedicated to bring a plane down they’ll find a way to work around these.

“Now, eight months into the new law there is a growing frenzy of mergers involving hospitals, clinics and doctor groups eager to share costs and savings, and cash in on the incentives. They, in turn, have deployed a small army of lawyers and lobbyists trying to persuade the Obama administration to relax or waive a body of older laws intended to thwart health care monopolies, and to protect against shoddy care and fraudulent billing of patients or Medicare.”

Once that transfer is done, the sheeple will be brainwashed into believing that things are better now because the sexual molestation and radiation are being performed by a private contractor that charges us only three times more than TSA. And all of that is good, really, really good.

I give up! ~throws arms up in the ear~

Why on earth would a potential terrorist go through the trouble of smuggling a carry-on bomb? If you want to keep a plane on the ground- or better yet- lock down an entire airport for hours, just go to your local Wal-Mart and buy a cheap hunting rifle with a scope. One cracked window on a plane and it’s not going anywhere. Likewise, leaking fuel tanks are pretty bad, too. Take one good shot and it’s Miller Time.

Seriously, folks- the rest of the world is laughing at US security procedures. They’re so superficial it’s obvious they’re designed to intimidate the public and at the same time make them think the government can really protect against any and all threats. Face it, TSA, you’re guarding against tactics that are already old news. When will we be regaled with lurid tales of the Butt-Bomber since the shrieking talking heads are up in arms about scanners not picking up on internally-carried items?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OQ5RH4JLE6CHNNECS7WLXP2Y2I PaisleyM

I got patted down rather intimately at my airport; I told the female attendant if she was going to touch my breasts like that then she’d have to buy me dinner first. This has been happening for years. I’m not going to fly; instead I will take other means of transportation. This whole Safety Theater is ridiculous. Who’s it for? Likely the stakeholders in the Body Scanner machines, and yes the TSA attendants make about $8 and hour and likely can’t get hired anywhere else. Our country is going to hell in a hand basket all the terrorists did was push a little closer to the precipice.

Emergency Units Responding to Reports of Fire on Plane at Kennedy Airport

More than 100 firefighters are at John F. Kennedy Airport in
Queens awaiting the arrival of a plane that is said to be on
fire, according to the fire department.

The fire department received a call shortly after 5 p.m. that
an airborne plane was on fire. In response, 25 units and 106
    members were dispatched the airport.

“We are there on standby waiting for it to land,” said a
spokesman for the fire department. “Unclear if it’s the
    engine or a wing.”

  • Anonymous

I guess I’m saying there are better ways to handle airline safety than what we’re currently doing. Other countries have done a better job of protecting their citizens without resorting to crotch and boob grabbing and bullies deliberately mistreating innocent travelers. The other thing they’re not addressing is that other passengers are alert to any stupidity on board a plane and have helped restrain trouble makers before anything could happen. We can’t rely on that as a policy, but it’s a fact of life now. We all pretty much watch what others are up to.

Sir: Timothy McVeigh was executed by the federal government. He was not a suicide bomber. The post refers specifically to suicide bombers on airliners which is the brief of the TSA. You’re absolutely right that we need to keep our noses out of the middle east. My sister and brother in law lived in Afghanistan with Peace Corps in the 70s and then taught in Jordan in the 80s. I heard a whole different side to what I heard from American media when I talked to my family about what was going on. Backing Israeli treatment of Palestinians and then the whole oil thing will keep us in the crosshairs of angry Arabs and rightly so. We really do need to mind our own business and take care of our own problems first. Our only concern in the middle east should be humanitarian aid where and when it’s needed.

US citizen/property directed terrorism started only *after* US government initiated harm in other countries. But of course, those financially or politically profiting from US military action – or incapable/unwilling to read fairly recent history – will always claim that terrorists “hate us because we’re free”. Stop the terrorism directed at USers at the source – the US government’s overt and covert military actions overseas.

And in the meantime, do *not* fly unless it is an absolute emergency requiring your physical presence. Airlines hurting at the bottom line will protest against the US government too on procedures put in place by government that causes loss of business. Vote with your dollars – not spending them on airline tickets is equal to a “None of the Above”, if such a choice actually existed on an election ballot.

*If* it is imperative to fly:
    - Loudly proclaim objection to search/scan measures & complying *only* because of necessary flight or the coercion of the TSA’s threats of arrest & fines if you leave the airport at that point;
    - Publicize why not flying;
    - Take notes and/or record interactions with TSA if flying and publicize;
    - Do not voluntarily associate with TSA agents – negative Social Preferencing;
    - Publicize names and photos of TSA agents so that others can negatively Social Preference (TSA cannot operate as currently if very few individuals are willing to scan/grope);
    - Be identifiable in all the above publicizing since anonymity does *not* engender highest level of support from others.

I emphasize withdrawing voluntary association with any TSA or other Homeland Security enforcer.
Please keep something in mind. The politicians and bureaucrats – rulers – do *not* get out into the field and enforce their own legislation/decrees/mandates/etc. Instead they depend on the enforcers to do the dirty work. Therefore the enforcers are the key!! Politicians and bureaucrats simply talk and write, even when it is to give orders.

Consequently the route with highest level and longest term potential for change is for large numbers of the non-enforcer population (which is the majority!) to make known to the enforcers they know personally their own dislike of government decrees/mandate/etc enforcement *and* why – the physical harm that is done to persons and/or property being a simple statement to make. For those enforcers who disregard such an approach (which recommended should include offers of assistance in finding a truly productive job) and continue in their positions, withdrawal of voluntary association is the appropriate next action, making it known to others so that they too can withdraw their association, adding to the persuasive effects. To continue voluntary association with such government enforcers is hypocritical of anyone who is opposed to these actions.

More importantly I think is the adage that no security procedure devised by man is unbreachable. The moment you set a protocol in place, you set it up to be breached. Everyone who has ever done any time inside can tell you this. The inventiveness of men when they seek to subvert is quite extraordinary.

All we’re seeing usually is ridiculous bomb plots which would not have looked out of place in an early Doctor Who script (with apologies to the BBC). Stupid phony props, meant to seem scary to an uninformed even a misinformed public. As an explosives expert I have not seen a bomb plot of the those announced which have supposedly triggered this flurry of groping and denuding; which convinced me it was a functioning realistic device, quite apart from the hilarious keystone cops stories invariably attached to them.

The day a real terrorist actually arises, perhaps somebody with knowledge like mine in various fields and a bit of creativity, then there is no security procedure on earth which could stop it. Whatever you have in place, will be built into the solution. I have no intentions, but sometimes I wish somebody with some serious clues did show these pathetic clowns with their feeble games what angry men with brains really can do.
Then however I can assure you that the targets will not be other people, but the system, the government and its instituions and particularly its thug enforcers.
Terrorist attacks against the public, are always by their own governments.
Real terrorists target governments and their military.
Think about it, the logic is simple.

I used to have an ostomy. Did for 36 years, since birth. I have since had a kidney transplant and am “hooked” up the right way. I feared each and every day that my bag might “come off,” or leak. This was a common occurance in school (elementary and high school), which was embarrassing, and horrible. Not alot of ppl knew about my situation.
I have only flown once in my life, and that was last Sept. I only had to go through the metal detector. I was just telling my sister that it would be horrible if I still had my bag. It would show up on the backscatter, and then to be groped.. and possibly have it yanked off, just to prove its not some kind of explosive…. OMG! This poor man! And you can’t just hold the urine in.. it comes out constantly, on it’s own. So this poor man leaked and leaked until he could go reapply. Something needs to be done to stop this insanity! There are so many medical conditions that require things like his bags, and these TSA agents don’t have a CLUE!!! I’m sure he’s devistated for life… I sure would be…
