UPDATE: Editors scrub article, comments from site

It was George Orwell, who first coined the term “memory hole,” in his classic novel 1984. For Winston, the book’s main character, his full-time job with the Ministry of Truth is to rewrite history, spiriting away the inconvenient details.

Someone like Winston appears to be hard at work behind the scenes at Fox Nation.

This morning, an article and comment thread related to a piece of satire the site and its readers took seriously, went missing.

The page was preserved through Google Cache, but the comment thread, which showed dozens of loyal Fox readers reacting to a joke story from The Onion as if it were real, is gone.

Some of the comments were preserved by Raw Story in the story below.

For a news outlet to retain credibility, standard industry procedure dictates that reporters and editors not only correct mistakes, but acknowledge them as well. Fox Nation had done neither at time of this writing.

It’s not a good move for Fox, which was savagely and very publicly mocked by other major online media for passing off satire as if it were actual news.

In the wake of such humiliation, the site’s editors can expect to face even greater scrutiny from the online community, especially after vanishing their embarrassment without so much as an explanation or retraction.

Original report follows…

Fox News’ opinion website Fox Nation and their readers don’t seem to know satire when they see it.

The Fox News sister site re-posted a joke from the satirical website The Onion Friday about President Barack Obama sending a 75,000-word e-mail to the the entire nation. At no point does Fox Nation note that the story is a satire.

The Onion story joked that Obama had “reached the end of [his] rope” and sent out the “rambling” stream of consciousness e-mail that addressed everything from the war in Afghanistan to his live-in mother-in-law.

The story goes on to say that the fake Obama e-mail was 27 megabytes and 127 printed pages.

If Fox Nation knows the story is a joke, they aren’t letting on, and many of the comments on the post treat the story as if it were actual news.

“It is really sad that in a time of crisis in this country with troops on foreign soil the economy lack of jobs and now N. Korea once again rattling their saber we have a President sitting in the White House that by what I read in the email is utterly losing it,” Goofy1954 wrote. “We can not afford to have him in the White House at such a critical time.”

“I must not be on his email list, I didn’t get it,” another commenter said. “Oh well, I didn’t miss anything. He thought running the country was just giving speeches to throngs of people.”

“If this story is correct, that he did send out this email, it is very concerning about his current state of mental health,” Famnp worried. “I am surprised he would be allowed to send something like this out and if he is not functioning very well why there isn’t some attention being paid to his current state.”

“This should be enough to have him removed from office immediately……he is now the highest security risk to this nation,” Obamababble observed.

“What you are seeing folks is the human unraveling and development of a self-delusional, irrational madman becoming unhinged. Can anyone say Hitler?” Mmttomb3 asked.

Janerogers wrote:

OK. Long, rambling tirade typed at 4 am. Judgement impaired as he didn’t think twice before sending it. Didn’t think of the consequences. Diagnosis: Bipolar Disorder. And we already know he has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Omama is mentally unstable and should be removed from office at once. Can’t wait to hear what Charles Krauthammer has to say about this psychotic episode.

Freedomfighter2 said he e-mailed The Onion to ask them to confirm the story.

Markejohn commented:

God Help Us . . . what person in their right mind would send a 75,000 word email.

The guy is losing it and we should all be SCARED . . . Obama is unstable and who knows what he might do

Some commenters have even reported knowing people who received the e-mail. “A friend of mine got the email because she was an Obama supporter,” Bettybonnie said. She forwarded it to me. It was pitiful. My friend thinks he is losing it. I told her I knew this a long time ago.”

But not all commenters are falling for the hoax.

Capstryker pointed out:

THIS ARTICLE IS NOT REAL!!

It is from The Onion. A comedic, satirical news website. Please don’t take this one seriously. Fox Nation needs to either take this down or point out the fact that it is a joke.

The Onion‘s stories have been mistaken for real news before. Mediaite notes that a 3-year-old satirical news video about fake congressman John Haller was recently thought to be real.

With reporting by Stephen C. Webster.

    *snicker*…

    Bwahahahaha!

Doesn’t surprise me in the least, though. But, isn’t Fox News satire, anyway?

  • Anonymous

Everything in The Onion is satire. If Saturday Night Live presented a skit in which Obama sent out a 75,000-word e-mail, would anyone take it seriously?

I wonder if the responses were intended to be satirical. Doubtful…you have to have a sense of humor to write satire.

Well of course it’s real. It’s as real as the fox news network is fair and balanced. Fox news network would never ever ever ever post anything that wasn’t thoroughly checked out, vetted and confirmed by thousands of its loyal readers, editors and advisory boards. If the onion posted it, and fox news confirmed it, it must be true. Why else would they do something stupid like post something that isn’t true. I mean they got glen beck, sarah palin, bill o’reilly, shaun hannity . . .all truthiness people who never ever ever tell lies or misinformation. Just ask em.

The degree of ignorance these so-called “patriots” are capable of, and display every day, is fucking appalling. The teaparty- rational peoples’ worst nightmare.

  • Dem. Socialism iza GOOD Thing!

And the intelligence quotient just keeps dropping, doesn’t it?

It’s sort of interesting, isn’t it – according to psychiatrists,
if you don’t understand what a joke is, and you take it for REAL,
you clearly have a thought disorder. That means the republicans
who thought the Onion piece was “real” actually have a thought
    disorder!

Don’t most people know what the Onion is about? Or a joke?

  • Anonymous

You would think a Fake News organization would be able to recognize fake news.

They’re really gonna be let down when they find out that Palin was a joke too! lol

  • Anonymous

These people can’t be expected to distinguish “real” from “fantasy” because their entire world view is one big paranoid fantasy constructed by Fox News. In other words, this is nothing new, for them.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HLFL6IYRB2ZRXSAOHIAAGRWGQI Tom

Its obvious that Fox news watchers don’t “do” satire. How could they? If they believe the satire they are fed by Fox and Republican politicians to be true, they’ll obviously believe the Onion to be true.

How is Sarah Palin as a serious presidential candidate not satire? Or how about when Obama takes taxpayer money and gives it to the rich, and the Republicans call him a socialist? You just can’t get any more satirical than that! ROTFLMAO!

  • Anonymous

Some commenters have even reported knowing people who received the e-mail.

The above is from the article. It shows Fox Fraud News isn’t the only one full of it. Their viewers are full of it too. The Fox viewers bullshit piled on as in this post from the article above:

…Bettybonnie said. She forwarded it to me…

Fox viewer Bettybonnie is claiming she got the 75,000 word 27 megabyte e-mail. Is Bettybonnie doing the Hannity, the O’Reilly, the Beck, the Fox Fraud News?

Fox punked by the Onion. Of course anyone can punk Fox, all you have to do is bullshit the Fox Fraud News way and they will take it from there.

When all you know is lies, jokes and satire and comedic embelishment are just more interesting “truths” than the other guy is telling.

  • Johnny Warbucks

The difference being that The Onion is not dangerous. FAUX, not so much.

According to my sources on facebook this story is very real!

These are the same people who believed that there were WMD in Iraq, the Health Care Bill would institute “Death Panels,” and that Obama wasn’t born in Kenya, even though his birth certificate and his birth announcement were both widely posted on the internet and even the conservative website “Red State” agreed that he was an American cvitisen.

They are also the same people who believed that the Teaparty was a “grassroots organization” and that the Republican Party that drove the deficit and debt through the ceiling under Bush was now a fiscally responsible party that would do everything they could to cut back earmarks and put the nation on a sound financial footing.

They are the same people who watch the “Colbert Report” and think that he is really a conservative. So after all this evidence of their inability to differentiate between fact and fiction, I can’t say I am surprised with this. In turn, they believed that Obama was spending $200 Million a day on his trip to India and that he is a “socialist” and too many other lies fed to them by Fox News too numerous to mention. But the alarming thing as the last election showed these people who are too stupid to tie their won shoes vote and generally vote Republican, even when they mistakenly think that they are voting for something new run by the Republicans like Dick Armey called the TeaParty.

Of course Fox Noise viewers would take this seriously. They’re LOOKING for bad news on the President just to talk more Beck points about his “Hitler-esk” charactistics. It’s pathetic. Especially the people like BettyBonnie who blatantly lie about getting an actual e-mail. They’re desperate to believe Fox Noise is right because they’re too stupid to look at the truth banging on their empty skulls.

My favorite comment is from JaneRogers who claims “we already know he has Narcissistic Personality Disorder.” Yah, where did that piece of B.S. news come from? $20 she doesn’t even know what that disorder actually is.

The simple fact these numb-nuts don’t know The Onion is a satirical periodical says it all. They probably have never even read a newspaper because it doesn’t say Fox on it!

Hannity swallowed the whole Onion bait, hook line and sinker. On his November 18 radio show he said President Obama was losing it. “He’s unhinged.” Hannity relished this thought with sex-wrapped glee.

Adding his personal spin to the Onion fable, Hannity said of the president, “He can’t stand Biden, he hates the Clintons, the Clintons hate him. The only thing he’s passionate about seems to be ESPN and playing golf, and playing some basketball. It’s the only thing that gets his interest.”

Hannity elaborated that President Obama “brought more bad news on the economy, and has a meltdown every time he hears it.” He said infighting and finger pointing in the White House is “at an all-time high.” He said the president “shouldn’t seek reelection in 2012.”

Later Hannity had two guest pundits who wrote an editorial in the Washington Times, in which they stated President Obama should not run for president in 2012. These two were also on Fox, reciting the same editorial. The kicker to the Onion fable is that Hannity claimed a “reliable Democratic source” told him about the president’s approaching insanity, and his obsession with media critics, specifically Fox.

This Onion spread tale of a presidential meltdown via a “rambling email’ shows that you can fool Obama haters 24/7 and twice on Sunday. Unfortunately, stupidity is forever, but ignorance, if treated by the right psychiatrist, can be fixed if the individual is willing to disabuse him or herself of this illness.

To begin with, there are people out there that believe fox noise to be the ultimate truth in broadcast news. Which means they hate anything liberal, progressive and anyone in the “democrat” party. Which is why they truly want to believe anything and everything that paints Obama in a bad light.

So when a satirical web site writes a piece of fake news about Obama, they think it’s actual news because they’re already brainwashed into believing that fake news is real life news, courtesy of Faux Noose.

We ALL know Fox “news” republican propaganda is spewed out to the uneducated & uninformed sheep who need to be led, these same gullible sheep will believe anything told to them by Fox, Beck, Limbaugh and the rest of the hateful republican shills for corporate fascism……

The sheep need to fill their shameless holes of hatred & greed – which makes even sadder & more pitiful that flock actually know they are being manipulated, fed trash, lies, garbage, smears & distortions 24/7 – Yet, they don’t care, they don’t want to change…. their selfishness, hatred finger pointing of others, gives them stupid dumb satisfaction. Fox makes it easy for them to admit, even celebrate (as sick as that is) to their own hatred, predices & greed as being normal and acceptable.

The gullible sheep would rather believe and repeat the lies fed to them by Fox & hate radio, than to admit to their own ignorance.

It’s much more difficult, it’s hard work to grow to become a better more understanding caring giving person…many just don’t have it in them, and prefer their hate & greed and to are happy to be led by hate, greed & evil…..These are very ugly vile regressive intolerant selfish republican creatures of our society.

The difference is that the Onion is actually funny sometimes, and Faux Nuuz ain’t. The Onion is also sometimes prescient. My favorite was their story from around 16 January 2001, a preview of Dubya’s first inaugural blather, where they have Bush say,, “Our long nightmare of peace and prosperity is over!” Yup, they got THAT one right.

Faux Nuuz humor is of the sort where Ann Coulter proclaims that certain non-fascist Senators and Supremes should be assassinated, then says, “That’s a joke.” No it ain’t. A joke is funny. Calling for political murders, ain’t funny. In many countries, that kind of joke will land the jokester in prison. The Faux gang should be careful what they wish for.

Give the Fox readers a break. In terms of factual accuracy there is virtually no difference between Fox and The Onion. Surely you can see how a mix-up like this could happen. The posting of this story may not be an “error” as they would like you to believe. In the same way a trial attorney makes a claim about a defendants actions that the opposing counsel objects to and the judge sustains and admonishes the jury to disregard, the “bell has been rung” and no matter the judge’s instructions the “thought” has been planted in the jury’s minds.

This supposed “error” only re-enforces the official Faux News meme that the O man is not up to the job which will be the questioned asked of all voters (aka the jury) in 2012.

And now for a refresher on the “purpose” of Faux News:
“The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money and more power.
They claim to be superpatriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective toward which all their deceit is directed is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjugation”
    Vice President Henry Wallace

Once again the story gets misreported. They were not convicted of ELECTION fraud and not a single vote was cast nor a single election “flipped”. If you read the original reporting you would also find that ACORN officials testified against these crooks because these EMPLOYEES defrauded them too. The facts will ALWAYS make anyone “promoting” this meme look foolish.

If you want to see what REAL election fraud looks like read the link below about the 7 officials in Kentucky who were convicted of flipping computer tallies and fixing elections.
    http://www.bradblog.com/?p=7765

TaterSalad don’t you think that if ACORN was capable of true election fraud that they would have been caught by the Norm Coleman campaign in Minnesota in 08. ACORN registered tens of thousands of new voters in Minnesota that year and Norm Coleman took seven months and spent $14 MILLION dollars on a recount and in the process challenged THOUSNDS of votes and could not find a SINGLE fraudulent VOTE or even REGISTRATION linked to ACORN. So where is the proof that ACORN is linked to ELECTION fraud other than in the accusations that pour from the mouths of Faux News hosts like drool from a Saint Bernard’s yap? Only in their integrity challenged minds that’s where!

The whole ACORN story is designed and promoted to energize the GOP base and play up their generational racism pure and simple. If you have fallen for it you might ask yourself why? I mean seriously, if after 15 years of local and congressional investigations, and candidate challenges they have yet to find a SINGLE fraudulent VOTE tied to ACORN where is the STORY? WHERE?

AND….AND even if they DID find a illegal vote here or there where is the FLIPPED ELECTION? Wayne do you really see how absolutely foolish the whole get ACRON story line looks?

If you want to talk about election fraud check out the link below to get an idea how W stole 2004 Ohio Presidential election that describes Documented proof of ELECTION flipping that caused W’s goons to kill their IT expert before he could testify in OPEN court!

    http://www.velvetrevolution.us/prosecute_rove/

Tater Salad read these links and learn where the real election fraud IS occurring today in the good ole US of A.

As Joseph Stalin said “it’s not who votes that matters, it’s who COUNTS the votes that determines who “wins” elections!”

Your post is a typical Fox Fraud News tactic of getting the embarssment of Fox Fraud News swept under the rug. Your source of news got clowned. Notice the following from the article above:

For a news outlet to retain credibility, standard industry procedure dictates that reporters and editors not only correct mistakes, but acknowledge them as well. Fox Nation had done neither at time of this writing.

Fox Fraud News has no standards. It donates to Republicans and then cons the public into believing their Network is unbiased. Remember George Will the Conservative? Well is a Fox Fraud Clown kinda guy too. He ripped off Carter’s debate papers, coached Reagan and then got on television and sucked Reagans dick right on the air without telling the people that he coached Reagan. Just like Fox would do.

Back to Fox Fraud News. They donated to Republicans, 30 of their people donated to Republicans and all of them do the George Will, which is spew fake anaylsis to the people.

Fox Fraud News and the viewers were caught clowned face and all. The viewers even piled on the crap saying they actually had the e-mail. Typical Fox Fraud viewers.

So you come along and do what every scum Fox Fraud News people and viewers do which is try your damn best to bury the hard core facts that all of you are clowned face.

Stick with the topic which is, “why would anyone want to watch and news show that has zero standards? The standards of a fake O’keefee video, the standards of a fake Brietbart video, the standard of the fake Paris Business Review Magazine O’Reilly fabricated?

If you like fake so much you are pathetic.

The election of President Obama broke the brain of these people. They were so sure, so confident that a black man would never be elected to the highest office in the land but when they saw it happen, it caused a severe crushing breakdown. Remember, they’re not playing with a full deck. See David’s comment below me. No matter what you do…You cannot fix that.

OMGosh! ROFLMBO!!! Faux Noise never fails to amaze and amuse me! Surely they MUST have more brains than to fall for an Onion story. This is beyond belief. Examining multiple points of view isn’t “hypocrisy”, it’s “research”. I know it’s a difficult concept, but “research” is that thing people do when they want to learn more about a topic in an effort to discover the truth. If you need a frame of reference to your own way of thinking, this is the polar opposite of what you call “faith”, which is unfounded belief in someone else’s words, and the absence of critical thought. Did that help clear anything up for you?

  • Dakotahgeo

No, it makes us viewers of some of the funniest Faux Noise comedians now, since Ralph Cramden, Red Skelton, Bob Hope, and Uncle Milty. But the last four mentioned had… integrity!

    * Voters Outreach of America – Tore up Democrat voter registration slips because “They were only being paid to register Republicans”
    * Arizona Green Party Debacle – Several Republican candidates coerced staffers and friends to register as Green Party candidates and write themselves in during

the primaries, to obscure choices and confuse voters.
    * Orange County Colleges Fraud – GOP signature gatherers coerce voters to switch to GOP, bribing with sunglasses and falsifying voter registrations- 11

    convictions, 8 jail sentences
    * Nevada GOP disposes of Democrat Voter Registration cards they collected
    * Head of NH GOP jailed for blocking Democrat Party office phone lines
    * Then there was the 2000 election in Florida, in addition to the 2004 election in Florida AND Ohio. Between the two states and two elections, official counts show that over 500,000 votes for Gore/Kerry were not counted. Leaked memos from Diebold showed that Precinct 216 in Volusia county reported NEGATIVE votes for Gore. That is, 16,022 were *subtracted* from Gore’s total, while 4,000 votes for George Bush were *added*.

What you tea baggers and FoxNewsies forget is that in 2004 allegations of Republican vote fraud were so rampant, that they came out with a PR campaign to turn the tide in their favor. Was the campaign “We don’t cheat!” or “One man, one vote” or “Honest Elections Now!”? No… Their campaign was…

    “They do it too!”

Sounds like the words of a real bastion of honesty and integrity. Get caught with your hands in the cookie jar? Easy! Don’t take responsibility and take steps to change for the better- just BLAME THE OTHER GUY!

See, that’s my problem with politics in America, and Americans who “follow” politics. Their memories are so short-term it isn’t even funny. I’m only 27, and yet it’s been a HILARIOUS ride to watch the nutjobs on both sides, and the nutjobs who listen to those nutjobs, flip-flop ALMOST ANNUALLY, on almost every issue, then pretend that they’ve ALWAYS been of that opinion. I was 17 at the time of the 2000 elections, so I couldn’t vote (not that it would have mattered, since I live in Florida), but I can remember the OUTRAGE- pure contempt and outrage across the country- that there was even a QUESTION of vote fraud, nevermind all-out-in-your-face-blatent-to-the-point-of-being-insulting-fraud. I’m just amazed that, only 10 years later, everyone (especially Republicans) seem to have forgotten about the 2000/2004 elections.

But putting those elections aside, during the 10 years since, allegations of fraud, obstruction and rigging have only increased. Republicans do it, Democrats do it. Pinning the blame on one party as being “destructive of democracy” is pure ignorance at best, willful deception at worst- likely a mix of both.

If you think that any President since Reagan has been looking out for America, or has America’s best interests at heart, you’re way off the mark. Since 1980, the Office of President has basically amounted to being CEO of AmeriCorp. You look out for it’s various subsidiary companies (esp. Goldman Sachs, Lockheed, et al) and keep the public confused long enough for whatever company financed your campaign to fleece the Treasury Dept. You can attack “liberals” all you want, but the fact is that liberals have nearly no voice in the Congress or Senate. Since 1980 the Left has moved Center and the Right… well, there are some legitimate comparisons to a certain other far-right political machine.

I encourage everyone, RUN FOR A PUBLIC OFFICE. I’ve actually run for a public office before and worked with others who have successfully campaigned for elected offices and I can tell you- there are some serious hoops to jump through. Getting my name on the ballot for Mosquito Control Commission took either $5,000 (didn’t have) or 1,000 signatures (before you say anything about putting myself in for a government job I’m not qualified for, I was in pest control for 5 years and was branch manager of the fastest-growing Natural Pest Control company in Florida— the chick who won is a 25 year old with an AA in Anthropology and only one job as a clerk at her parent’s real estate office). I didn’t lose because I was less qualified. I lost because I couldn’t afford to buy upwards of 1,000 roadside signs, and because I couldn’t afford to pay state fees for 32 6′x10′ billboards. — Interestingly enough, you know why they went through all this effort to get a family member on the Mosquito Control Commission? Because they owned 1,100 acres of swampland that they wanted to develop- but they needed to convince the Mosquito Control Commission to add 1,100 acres of PRIVATE land to their register so they could spray there. Their son also serves on the county commission Land Planning Board, and they spent about $10,000 opposing a local ballot measure that would require a public vote before redistricting SWFWMD-designated Protected Wetlands.

Either way, it breaks down to this: election rigging and election fraud is not new, it’s not “republican” or “democrat”/”liberal” or “conservative”. It’s MONEY. Money makes elections or breaks elections. The Chamber of Commerce won a STUNNING victory in the midterms this year. Let’s see who wins next election- will it be Goldman Sachs? Will it be BP? Will it be General Motors? Or what if the Kingdom Foundation ends up stealing next year’s elections? Oh, the possibilities! No matter who wins though, I can guarantee you one thing: They will be paid through the ass by megabuck funding from anonymous donors. Bet on it.

It’s not surprising. FoxNews has a history of such confusion. They confused Iraq with the source of the 9-11 attacks against the U.S., George W. Bush with a real president, “Mission Accomplished” with an accomplished mission, and themselves (FoxNews) with an actual news network.

But I did want to point out, in case you were having trouble following along, that the article you reference is completely irrelevant to the discussion. I mean, the RawStory article we are all posting about demonstrates that tea-baggers are too stupid to pick up on the fact that a piece of satire is not news. Did you think that if you personally identified any random news story that was NOT satire, our views of tea-baggers would change? Or are you helping us out by demonstrating that tea-baggers also can’t determine the topic under discussion? If so — good job!

Conversely, they will never believe anything positive about someone they have already decided they don’t like. Their reality is just that, their own. Story? Onion? What story? What onion? You must be dreaming!

I don’t think they’ll ever admit their gaffe. Totalitarian governments, including corporations like FoxNews, make their own rules and their own ‘news.’ When you own the media you can affirm or deny anything–like the USSR in the 1950s and the Chinese today. “The news is whatever we say it is! Take him away, comrade! Shoot him, and bill his family for the bullet!”

I completely agree, @party_of_lincoln, but from the looks of the FOX commenters, allowing women the vote was the larger of the two mistakes. Also we need to immediately take the vote away from the illegal immigrants: they’re obviously going to vote to allow more of themselves in, creating a phenomenon scientists call “Positive Feedback”. It was a really big mistake when CAFTA allowed them to vote.

One has to admit that these days that the line between reality and satire is growing slimmer and slimmer. Consider some of the women and men that ran for political office under the Tea Party banner. Could anyone, however humorous and clever actually have made them up. Angle, O’Donnell, the half-beard from Alaska – Are they really for real. Sometimes I wish I had been duped. Where is Onion when you need it?

Or maybe it’s just that the Fox Nation’s website has been outsourced to India like so much else in America, with the Fox Nation’s computer sitting right next to the India website’s computer, with the operators comparing notes and sipping tea, giggling about how gullible right-wingers are in America, how they’ll swallow pure crap morning, noon and night, and keep coming back for more?

There are plenty of people who can believe Fox’s deception and even after they’re told it was a lie continue to believe it or something like it while looking at themselves in the mirror, being happy with what they see and sleeping soundly at night. Fox has no integrity at all. Zero! It’s not in their vocabulary. All we can do is laugh at them but we cannot have any expectations of legitimacy on their part!

FOXNEWS has successfully, and I think DELIBERATELY, blurred ‘news’ and ‘political commentary’, and ‘facts’ and ‘dogmatic ideology’. Facts no longer matter, and news is ‘we hate Obama’ stories all day long. Take a poll. Approx 27% or more will respond they believe a proven non-truth that FOX runs with day after day as ‘news’. If you read a newspaper, you’re an ‘intellectual elite’. If you watch anything but FOX, you’re watching ‘lame stream media’. If you ask a conservative a real question, you’re a socialist. If you hate the Prez and deny his birth certificate is real, you are a patriot. Up is down and black is white.

Anything that is perceived as negative about the Obama administration, Fox picks up that gauntlet and runs with it. It doesn’t matter that the truth comes out and exposing their crappy news reporting….too much pride will be their downfall. Its one thing to be wrong and admit your mistake, but its another to be proved wrong and let your pride prevent acknowledgment. The latter just makes you look foolish to all.

Anyone who believed that this was real is simply willing to except anything that can validate their hatred of the President. I agree that journalism has been compromised however those folks that become outraged by fake news are looking for that kind of thing. Those that listen to Limbaugh and Beck and accept something so obviously fake as reality will always go to the “news” source that validates what they want to believe. These idiots want to believe something like that because it would give credibility to Hannity’s lie about having a source in the WH who said Obama is “losing it”! SH also claims that Obama is fighting with Biden, the Clintons’, all his staff, and only cares about basketball on ESPN! It’s too bad this happened during Hannity’s holiday break, the thought that this alleged email would have given him credibility might have stopped any questioning regarding the veracity of the article. He would have been delirious to finally have told a lie that was actually turning out to be truthful.

What a sorry statement these comments from FoxNation speak regarding the right wing lunatics that want to see their President fail not realizing that means the failure of their country. Or worse yet, they are aware of the latter and the former is more important to them!

This is just more proof that Fox “News” Channel is just easily susceptible to anything and everything they find on the web or word of mouth. They take a bait based story, in this case satirical, and actually run with it as news. Sean Hannity intakes fake stories as actual news and is proud to present them as facts. It isn’t just him but he’s the main fool that falls for these things, and reports them with great confidence.

Not only that, but the viewers of fox “news” channel and blog readers take stories like these as truths which is entertaining and scary at the same time.

I started out thinking that perhaps the Fox Nation site knew it was satire and assumed that an origin of The Onion was enough to tip anybody off that is was satire. Then I realized that by not noting the story was humorous the folks at Fox Nation have left only two logical conclusions. Either, A) Fox Nation did NOT recognize the satire and seriously reported the story, or B) someone at Fox Nation is playing a cruel joke on it’s own readers. I’m guessing A, not that I don’t think B would be a lot more surprising and fun :)

Actually, when an (alleged) news organization runs something quoted from another (alleged) news organization, you can’t blame the first organization’s haste on wanting to break the story first, because from their point of view, the story is already broken. In particular, Fox couldn’t possibly have thought that they were going to be the first to break a story that had already run in WWN or The Onion.

If you believe anything that passes for news on the fox news program I have a bridge in Brooklyn I can sell you cheap. fox the news that f$cks with you.

So much for only the right wing being knee-jerk.

End of discussion? There’s that famous liberal open-mindedness…oh wait, no it isn’t.

Is that why you keep saying the same thing over and over again? Because you’re so smart?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sanjay-Krishnan-Goldberg/100000773721398 Sanjay Krishnan Goldberg

Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck aren’t news reporters nor do they pretend to be. If you think they are then they’re not fooling you. You’re fooling yourself.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sanjay-Krishnan-Goldberg/100000773721398 Sanjay Krishnan Goldberg

Actually, they did. In the web archive from Nov. 26 it says right in the headline “The Onion:…”

So did you just not know any better or were you lying?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sanjay-Krishnan-Goldberg/100000773721398 Sanjay Krishnan Goldberg

It’s a bad analogy. Presidents don’t have as much control over the economy as people think they do. The Congress has more direct control thru the federal budget and taxes. And guess who had a majority in Congress when the recession hit…oh, that’s right, it was the Democrats. Oops! I guess you could call that an inconvenient truth.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sanjay-Krishnan-Goldberg/100000773721398 Sanjay Krishnan Goldberg

It’s ironic that people are throwing around comparisons to a book they haven’t even read.

You would know why it’s ironic if you had read the book.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sanjay-Krishnan-Goldberg/100000773721398 Sanjay Krishnan Goldberg

Right-brain…you mean the hemisphere commonly associated with emotions, creativity and recalling memorized lists? Are you sure about that?

  • Anonymous

The headline was captured above. The picture does not denote “The Onion,” apparently you can’t read.

I meant abstract thinking, but if that’s centered in the left brain I just learned something. They seem to me to be restricted to concrete, dichotomous thinking. At any rate, their thinking errors are too numerous to count.

You are so right. Perhaps Danny meant to use the term fascist, which is on the far right like the Likudnik party in Israel. The federal government in the States is looking more and more fascist everyday.

I learn something new about myself every freakin’ day!

Hmm… I’m posting from a MacBook and having exactly zero trouble. Maybe the problem isn’t with the website or the Mac, ya think?

I know that they are not “real” news my point is that they fulfill the need for people who need to validate their beliefs. By the way Glenn Beck’s lead in to his radio program is “A unique mix of entertainment and NEWS”. Rush Limbaugh tells his listeners that he is here to INFORM them, so yes they do portray themselves as real news the only time they don’t is in a one on one “real” interview then they say “Hey, I just an entertainer”.

Hahahah…. Fox News as good as the bible.

Wait…that’s actually pretty good…considering the bible is a book of fiction as well.

    Well played, Kathryn!

“Fox makes stuff up all the time. This was… business as usual and just like every other time when they get caught lying, they simply ignore the disclosure [that] they lied and move on….”

I don’t think Fox management is concerned about facts vs. fiction. Their corporate function is not to report facts (what the rest of us call ‘journalism’) but to manufacture and distribute (sell) information that they want the public to have. In this respect they are successful.

Well given that stories like “Palin to star in reality show”, or “Palin clubs baby seal” aren’t satire in the republican world of politics, it’s not surprising they have a hard time telling the difference.
