WikiLeaks hasn’t even released the latest round of US government documents and already politicians and pundits are calling for prosecutions.

The latest release from the WikiLeaks website is expected to include as many as 250,000 secret diplomatic cables.

The Obama administration warned Wednesday that the documents could damage US relations with friends and allies.

“Leaking the material is deplorable,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told Fox News’ Chris Wallace Sunday. “I agree with the Pentagon’s assessment that the people at WikiLeaks could have blood on their hands.”

“I don’t know what the cables may say but it’s just a — we’re at war. I mean the world is getting dangerous by the day and the people who do this are really low on the food chain as far as I’m concerned. If you can prosecute them, let’s try.”

Sen. Clair McCaskill (D-MO) agreed. “Lindsey’s right,” she said. “The people who are leaking these documents need a gut check about their patriotism and I think they’re enjoying the attention they’re getting but, frankly, it’s coming at a very high price in terms of protecting our men and women in uniform.”

“I hope that we can figure out where this is coming from and go after them with the force of law,” McCaskill said.

Also appearing on Fox News Sunday, former State Department official Liz Cheney called for the government to go after the leakers.

“I think, once again, the government of Iceland ought to shut down that [WikiLeaks] website,” Cheney said. “I think they ought to stop allowing the stuff to come out of the website in Iceland. I think that the administration ought to be focused very much on prosecuting those responsible.”

The State Department sent a letter Saturday to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange asking him to halt the leaks.

Publication of documents of this nature at a minimum would:

* Place at risk the lives of countless innocent individuals — from journalists to human rights activists and bloggers to soldiers to individuals providing information to further peace and security;

* Place at risk on-going military operations, including operations to stop terrorists, traffickers in human beings and illicit arms, violent criminal enterprises and other actors that threaten global security; and,

* Place at risk on-going cooperation between countries – partners, allies and common stakeholders — to confront common challenges from terrorism to pandemic diseases to nuclear proliferation that threaten global stability.

“Despite your stated desire to protect those lives, you have done the opposite and endangered the lives of countless individuals. You have undermined your stated objective by disseminating this material widely, without redaction, and without regard to the security and sanctity of the lives your actions endanger,” State Department legal advisor Harold Hongju Koh wrote.

“If you are genuinely interested in seeking to stop the damage from your actions, you should: 1) ensure WikiLeaks ceases publishing any and all such materials; 2) ensure WikiLeaks returns any and all classified U.S. Government material in its possession; and 3) remove and destroy all records of this material from WikiLeaks’ databases.”

Assange told reporters Sunday that Washington had “contacted the governments of almost every nation on earth to brief them about what some of these embarrassing revelations will do.”

“They’re in a rather unusual difficult position where it is not sure precisely what is going to be revealed,” he said.

WikiLeaks tweeted Sunday that their website was under a “mass distributed denial of service attack.”

“El Pais, Le Monde, Speigel, Guardian & NYT will publish many US embassy cables tonight, even if WikiLeaks goes down,” they wrote.

This video is from Fox News’ Fox News Sunday, broadcast Nov. 28, 2010.

Hopefully the Wikileak judge requires the jury to watch “The Most Dangerous Man in America” before they vote. Saw the documentary on Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers last night and it is time to spill the State Secrets.

This is perhaps the right time to remember US Supreme Court Justice Black’s words in the Pentagon Papers case:

In the First Amendment the Founding Fathers gave the free press the protection it must have to fulfill its essential role in our democracy. The press was to serve the governed, not the governors. The Government’s power to censor the press was abolished so that the press would remain forever free to censure the Government. The press was protected so that it could bare the secrets of government and inform the people. Only a free and unrestrained press can effectively expose deception in government. And paramount among the responsibilities of a free press is the duty to prevent any part of the government from deceiving the people and sending them off to distant lands to die of foreign fevers and foreign shot and shell. In my view, far from deserving condemnation for their courageous reporting, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and other newspapers should be commended for serving the purpose that the Founding Fathers saw so clearly. In revealing the workings of government that led to the Vietnam war, the newspapers nobly did precisely that which the Founders hoped and trusted they would do.[...]

Empire is impractical because it requires hundreds of thousands of employees to administer it. Empire cannot be administered by a few right wingers with loyal adherence to Washington. It’s inevitable that many of the employees of empire will find it repugnant and seek to divulge secrets to reporters. As a result, empire is not feasible. The leaks to Wikileaks proves it.

When everything embarassing becomes a “secret,” when those in power decide in “secret” what will be “secret”, what we have is a “secret” governemnt – and we have it. The President now declares he can kill at will – in “secret.”
But we get groped in public!

  • Anonymous

The innocent are never worried about “leaks”.

The excuse that such leaks endanger lives is BS. Those lives are endangered whether “wiki” leaks or not.

Still puppets will continue to “puppet” as long as they are ordered.

Idiot doesn’t even realize that Wikileaks is based in Sweden, not Iceland.
Can’t even get her basic facts right. Does anyone seriously think that the State Department or Fox News would have hired her if her name were Liz Jones?

exactly who gives a fuck what that ugly skank wants? anybody? anybody? Bueller?

if there was any spine in the Obama administration, she would be preparing her fathers legal defense against an international war crimes tribunal. but obama has no spine. hoe you enjoyed my vote, asshole. you WONT be getting another.

if anybody in a foreign government wanted to find out the truth about the war crimes of the bush administration. they should torture and waterboard that bitch. and nobody would care.

as soon as your Dad, Shrub & his cronies are turned over to a war crimes tribunal – come back – then we might be able to talk.

After the last week or so listening to her father and Dumbya continue to brag about their war crimes, she want Assange prosecuted? Typical blathering Cheney idiot.

The neocon madmen hate the truth of their crimes exposed, bravo Wikileaks!!

Um, excuse me for a second here: why the fuck does Liz Cheney have any authority to speak on ANYTHING? What the fuck has that horrid c-unt ever contributed to our society other than injecting her poisonous political slurry of idiocy? I’m sorry, but if Raw Story is going to continue to legitimize half-witted scoundrels and charlatans then it really reflects on the lack of journalistic value of RS as a “news” source.

WTF, RAW STORY? Why don’t you quote Gumby and the Teletubbies? I’m sure they have some serious political commentary to add to the ruckus.

Just arrest both of these fucking scumbags and try them on sedition. Find them guilty and throw them in Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo, along with the rest of the so-called “political class”.

In the end, we’ll use their own gulags to house them until they are old and withered and, finally, die.

“… documents could damage US relations with friends and allies…”

maybe if we weren’t stabbing our friends and allies in the back we wouldn’t have to fear repercussions

and when they say that the release will “… endangered the lives of countless individuals. …”
they are not concerned about the innocent lives lost in iraq, afganistan, or even the military troops … they are only concerned about their own lives and their own prosperity

they are afraid of not being in control of the propaganda machine

  • Anonymous

Um, the miscreants in government (all of them) definitely have seas of blood on their hands. Yes, the world becomes more dangerous by the day, as the crimes fester in the darkness. Sunshine is the best disinfectant! Of course the miscreants don’t like it. Do roaches like being exterminated? Of course not! Let’s let the chips fall where they must!

The crimes they have committed by their involvement, either individually or collectively, are arguably as evil as those of the Wehrmacht in Poland and Ukraine. The truth must trump false “patriotism” for the Republic and our Constitution to survive. I welcome any exposure that aids the dismantlement of the our evil empire. It must happen or we are doomed.

(partial retraction on my previous post)

Well, there’s a story that really highlights how fucking fucked this country is. Liz Cheney (for God’s sake) demands someone be punished for leaking what exactly… we have yet to learn. Could she BE more hypocritical and creepy?

How about we put the old man on trial at the Hague for outing a covert CIA agent and lying us into a war, just for starters.

The ones yelling the loudest probably do have the most to fear from truth being revealed.

some one needs to tell this women to shut up and go home. Who is giving her this time on TV the REpuglicans that own the stations. The reason she wants this to go away is because her FATHER is a War Criminal. The Leaks as they call them just let everyone know How Criminal they are.

  • Anonymous

I hate to break this to both “I LIKE the closet” Lindsay Graham and “I have absolutely NO credibility” Liz Cheney, but it is NOT illegal to publish things leaked from the gov’t. So there is nothing that Mr Assange has done that can be prosecuted under our laws as they stand today. It’s called “freedom of the press”, and it’s got a LONG tradition in this country. It’s how we keep people HONEST, something that the two of you clearly don’t have ANY interest in. After all, whose father would be the first to go to jail under the laws we DO have on the books if this is allowed to continue?

If you want to live in an open and honest society, then you have to have some means of keeping the leaders honest and open. At this point, there is WAY too much secrecy, and illegal things are being done in our name every day that we never know a thing about. The righties are trying to avoid another Watergate, or worse, that is why they want so much secrecy. Only those with much to lose want to keep such secrets, and would be willing to break even more laws to keep them secret. All the more reason to NOT allow them to get their way. MORE leaks, not less.

The real fear is the World learning what really happen in the 8 year crime wave and the part the Brits played. Many former World leaders were paid for their cooperation because they didn’t want to join in the crimes of US/UK. Germany was paid to refuel the planes going to countries that torture. The real shocker will be the countries Bush called Axis of Evil were partners in torturing the people sent by the US. If you thought the pictures of the men/women/children the US tortured were bad then you have heard or seen the worse. One only need to think why only the UK joined in the Iraq invasion and why not the other countries after hearing Powell lie to the UN. Tony Blair was paid for his cooperation and you might remember his son got a good paying job in the US Government because of it. We’ll learn about the assassination squad developed by Dick Cheney to remove any person who might stop the play. Iran, Syria and Libya were paid partners in the War Crimes committed while Bush gave the smoke screen to the American people with the words axis of evil and the Media/Press were ordered to report what the White House told them to. Liz knows the truth and like any good daughter is protecting her Dad’s butt. Remember Halliburton was doing business in Iran during the years Bush announced no US company was allowed.

Most of what I’ve seen involves the Bush/Cheney administration and their dealings with some pretty awful people. It also reveals that the hard right Republican push against Iran was ordered by the Saudis (cut off the head of the snake in a dispatch from Riyadh in 2008).

Which tells you much of what you need to know about Republicans: their foreign policy, of course, but also their stress on trying to un-educate this country, to inspire us to want super totalitarian rulers, to love the wealthy more than we love ourselves, and to make sure each of us become a religious fundamentalists.

Nice going, Republicans. It now seems clear to me that not only have the Saudis funded Fox and its vision of society, they have also obviously contributed massive cash to the recent election (laundering it through Fox or the C of C).

How convenient McCaskill and all the other Democrats clean their butt as does the Republicans of the corruption of our State Department and Military as well as the White House.

Through out history, secrecy has invited tyranny to establish itself. To defend our country (U.S.of A.) from continuing this repeated trend, our forefathers established the division of state and church and the division of powers within our government. We, and millions around the world, are paying for the systematic elimination of said divisions. Just like any poor drug addict that honestly wants to clean up, we, as a Nation must “bite the bullet” and eliminate the concept of secrecy “for reasons of national security”. In doing so, many may be charged and sentenced with the violation of national AND international law. So be it, if we truly desire peace and wish to recuperate the respect that this nation previously enjoyed.

I say shine the light on these double dealing back stabbing politicos, so that they rethink their policies of speaking from both sides of their mouth. Who do Miss Lindsay and Liz Cheney think they are to make such demands… Sarah Palin?

  • Anonymous

Well at least Fox was once again fair and balanced, everyone they had no matter the political party was against the leakers, how much more balanced can you get?

Weren’t the Republicans just asking for Obama to be more open and weren’t they just criticizing him only last week for too much secrecy? Why are they so up in arms about this, isn’t this just what they wanted, more openness? I guess they can’t make up their mind what they want can they?

As for McCaskill she is just trying to give the rednecks in Missouri something to praise her for. I guess she has already forgotten what happened to most of her bluedog compatriots on November 2nd. If her memory is that short she doesn’t deserve to be a Senator from anywhere.

I think these cables should all be released and so should anything else Wikileaks can get their hands on. We hear throughout our lives that democracy only works when we have all the information we can possibly have to base our decisions on. The problem with our current democracy is that we have less and less information every day and we are constantly being forced to make decisions on the cumulative contents of a series of 30 second commercials while the information that would actually enable us to make knowledgeable decisions is hidden from us. The more information we have the better our decision making capabilities are.

And these arguments about how many people’s lives are being put in jeopardy are getting tired. We are at war with two countries. We have killed hundreds of thousands and tortured untold thousands more. We allowed death squads to operate freely in Iraq just like we did in numerous countries in South America. We have encouraged and aided states in secret while we have pretended that we were not doing so, we have moved people from one place to another on our so-called enemies list just to facilitate their torture.

It’s time the American population get a good look at just what a benevolent country we live in. If the people in power can’t stand the stuff being released then they should stop doing all the shady things that go on in the name of “Foreign Policy”–a strange name that!

It’s my guess we are going to find out just how “foreign” these behind the back practices really are!

  • yvonneo

What Liz Cheney thinks is irrelevant–she has absolutely no credibility and should just STFU. All democratic societies have a right to know what their governments are doing in their name.

“The state department knew of the leak several months ago and had ample time to alert staff in sensitive locations. Its pre-emptive scaremongering over the weekend stupidly contrived to hint at material not in fact being published. Nor is the material classified top secret, being at a level that more than 3 million US government employees are cleared to see, and available on the defence department’s internal Siprnet…”

“…Insofar as they are sensational, it is in showing the corruption and mendacity of those in power, and the mismatch between what they claim and what they do.”

“If it is true that the Pentagon targeted refugee camps for bombing, it should be of general concern. American congressmen might also be interested in the sums of money given to certain foreign generals supposedly to pay for military equipment.”

“The job of the media is not to protect power from embarrassment…American (and British) taxpayers might question, too, how most of the billions of dollars going in aid to Afghanistan simply exits the country at Kabul airport.”

“America’s foreign policy is revealed as a slave to rightwing drift, terrified of a bomb exploding abroad or of a pro-Israeli congressman at home…”

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/nov/28/us-embassy-cables-wikileaks

It sounds like the only peoples’ lives that are being “put in danger” by the revelations of the current Wikileak documents are more likely those politicians who have been engaged in corrupt and criminal activity. To hell with them. Tear that veil of secrecy down that has served only to protect the guilty from prosecution.

Since when does Fox present a fairly constructed argument? Just the other day they posted an editorial that presented an article from The Onion as a credible news story. Wouldn’t you know it that a majority of fox readers’ comments missed the misrepresentation and launched into an all out tirade of caustic commentary.

In all reality this is OUR fault. We are not educated enough, we don’t care to question things, and we are all essentially asleep at the wheel. It’s time to stop blaming other as a people and collectively reject these less than socially viable habits such as the one’s i mentioned.

When you were/are out there making all your money on your own and not “depend[ing] on the government for anything” were/are you investing in any companies that have/had government contracts associated with defense, national security or homeland security? Were you investing in banks and other financial institutions that were bankrolling these homeland security and defense contractors and their start-up subcontractors. If so, yes you have blood on your hands and in your wallet.

Other than that I don’t know why you are typing in all capital letters. Cheney’s father and his cronies did more for the neoliberal policies that you were espousing yesterday than any single administration since Reagan. And since you no doubt made money, if your stories of individual hard work and smart scottrading are to be believed, off it too, you’re complaints seem a little over done or did you invest in some military contractors who lost out during the war boom?

In addition your small minded confusion is showing. Don’t you understand that for you to make the money you claim you are making by all that investing and financial manipulation that the money has to come from somewhere and the United States needs to have an empire for you to continue to reap the rewards of empire. So please spare us your righteous indignation at how evil those people are who have aided and abetted your private accumulation of capital and whose policies you pretend don’t help you even when they do, as I outlined earlier.

For those who want to know you can find these earlier posts that I am referring to here:

If you don’t like Liz’s comments, try this one from John Kerry, current Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a Democrat, which illustrates this Assange bullshit is not left/right, but about US foreign interests.

“This is not an academic exercise about freedom of information and it is not akin to the release of the Pentagon Papers, which involved an analysis aimed at saving American lives and exposing government deception,” Kerry, D-Massachusetts, said in a written statement.

“Instead, these sensitive cables contain candid assessments and analysis of ongoing matters and they should remain confidential to protect the ability of the government to conduct lawful business with the private candor that’s vital to effective diplomacy,” the statement said.

Good for Wikileaks! These wars were foisted upon the American People by a chain of lies started by Bush and his NeoConservative warhawks and continued under the direct approval of the Obama Administration. What have these wars brought to our country and the countries of Afganistan and Iraq? Nothing for its ordinary citizens, but immense war Profits for the American Corporations that have supplied the troops and replaced active soliders with corporations own employees. Its time for more information about these wars be revealed not less. And If Liz Cheney wants to have people from Wikileaks brought to Court, I say only if and when we bring your father in on charges of being a war criminal with George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

Most of the ones screaming for prosecution are themselves criminals and they are the ones that should be prosecuted for crimes including violating the Bill of Rights, war crimes or covering them up, abuse of power, and the list could go on and on. They hate it when the truth comes out and the louder they scream, the more guilt they have.

As for Liz Cheney, we already have global warming troubles. The least she should do is stop adding to the problem by opening her mouth to speak, not that many of us would listen to the manure spewed out. Maybe Dick should take her out hunting…

Kerry thinks this is different from his anti Vietnam War efforts, but is is NOT. All of a sudden, the tax cheat with the big boat talks about sensitive cables, etc. I would never trust our Congressional members, they are part of a conspiracy against citizens. There is NO private candor conducted diplomacy, it’s all garbage that is the antithesis of transparency. It mirrors the Presidential phony we have in the white house. Freakshows like Pelosi and her large 757 jet to go home weekly when a smaller plane or commercial service would work just as well and far cheaper are the kind of elected idiots we now have lying to us constantly. Kerry needs to get thrown out.

When the Pentagon Papers became a big issue the U.S Supreme Court sided with the New York Times. The rational for siding with the New York Times would also apply to Wikileaks. The New York Times didn’t steal the Pentagon Papers and Wikileaks didn’t steal the documents. It is legal to print what you didn’t steal.

The Politicians and Liz Cheney are wasting the people’s time.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YEVZSOUFSY7K4OP5ITXSE3AB34 michaelj

Dik Cheney needs to be prosecuted as a war criminal. His daughter is merely trying to buy him time. Neocons are destroying this country, just as the cowardly Obama is doing. But, he’s loving every moment, while Julian Assange is doing his duty exposing the lying deception our politicians are using on us. No matter what, we stupid citizens pay for these idiots to give money to bankers and oilmen so they get rich while we go broke and our sons and daughters get killed in stupid wars of imperialism. It is a disgusting folly, and we are being lied to constantly. No matter what our elected idiots say, they never fulfill the promises. They suck off lobbyists, they love the power of money. Once elected, they care zero about the people who elected them. You want favors from them, give ‘em money. They only know money and power. Obama hated the country more before he was elected. Now that he has power, he loves it!! Correction, he loves power and money and is a cowering fool for the real monied interests. Obama is a dirty coward and would never be able to control CIA and the rest of the elitists. JFK certainly could not control the CIA and elitists and paid for his honesty and refusal of the Bay of PIgs debacle with his life. He was killed by high ranking peiple in the US. Our CIA and LBJ. killed this potentially great president. Obama does not have any greatness in him. Nothing at all.He is a coward and is toyed with by Soros and the big money folks.

This is fallacious logic. Money we invest in companies is spent in ways we cannot imagine. Just as union dues are spent to buy politicians, this is the same thing. I am not asked what my investment money should be used for, the company does what it wants. I may be a whore but I’m currently not licensed. According to you, every investment could be construed as being invested in the military and this is not true. Here’s a quote from you: “Both smarmy war criminals, people who love power and money.” Yet, you make investments so you must love money as well and evidently power too because the two are closely connected. The more money one has the more power one has. You want to be innocent of anything connected with the war crimes that these other people engaged in but you invest and benefit monetarily from the wars that you claim to be against.

There are other ways of investing that allow you to be in control of your money but you evidently don’t want to avail yourself of such investment opportunities. You would rather feign innocence and castigate others for their actions while not taking responsibility for your own.

From you: “Money we invest in companies is spent in ways we cannot imagine.” Exactly and one of those ways is for that money to be invested in the lobbying industry which is much larger than you realize. It’s not as if any politician in America is immune form lobbyists or that anyone who reads the news is either. When you have news stories about Michael Moore quoting talking points from health industry lobbyists in news stories even in The New York Times, whose war mongering in the lead up to the Iraq war was nothing short of state sponsored propaganda, the very meaning of the news media is challenged. When you have lobbyists working for individual businesses and working for business organizations as The Business Roundtable, The Chamber of Commerce, The National Association of Manufacturers, hire lobbyists by the hundreds and all of these lobbyists are working against the working person and for the CEOs and the profitability of business, and to increase the sweep of the American Empire through war if necessary, and unless you are willing to change the whole system, that is from the ground up you are part of this vast machinery that is daily creating the world that you claim to despise but meanwhile you invest in!

So you get your news from Fox. Great, You must be someone kind of antiwar activist alright! You think that Nancy Pelosi uses a Boeing 757 to fly back and forth to San Francisco. All you had to do was go to google and type this in to see that it was a lie refuted by everyone from factcheck.com to Huffington Post and others. Here is what fact check said:

“Reports like this one, saying Pelosi routinely flies about in her own 757-size jet, have been floating around for almost two years. The claims were revived when Democrats complained that CEOs of the Big Three U.S. automakers had used their corporate jets to come to Washington to seek billions in federal aid. But the rumors are incorrect. Spokespeople for Pelosi and Andrews Air Force Base say that the speaker has used the big Air Force jet once, but she normally uses a much smaller plane, the same one used by the previous speaker of the House, Republican Dennis Hastert.”

If you want anyone to listen to you here you should at least bring some knowledge to the board and not something you heard from Rush Limbaugh or Fox News. When what you write here isn’t factual it will be struck down!

  • Anonymous

So she want to prosecute? This could be the precedent we need to prosecute all the players responsible for the outing of covert CIA agent Valerie Plame-Wilson and then compromising her husband’s (Joe Wilson) safety, and hers, for openly criticizing the Bush Administration’s false claims that Iraq had a sales contract with Niger to buy ‘yellow cake uranium’. Vice President Cheney manufactured this LIE and Joseph Wilson called him on it in an article titled “What I didn’t find in Africa”, published in the NY Times. Then Cheney started the ball rolling with Karl Rove, then Scooter Libby and finally ending with Richard Armitage leaking the ‘news’ about Valerie Plame-Wilson being a CIA operative and spouse of Joseph Wilson to Rober Novak. So by all means lets start the prosecution of those who LEAK National Secrets. Dick Cheney is FIRST on the list to be prosceduted for treason.

  • Anonymous

Why was Liz Cheney not as adamant in calling for prosecution when daddy Dick exposed the identity of CIA Operative Valerie Plame, an action that clearly created a National Security threat. She should shut the hell up.

  • Anonymous

    Excellent points.

And the sequence of events that led to the outing of covert CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson, an act of treason, began when some forged Niger documents, purporting to prove that Saddam Hussein was seeking more yellow-cake uranium from French-controlled uranium mines in Niger, was planted by someone with the CIA station chief in Rome, Italy several years before the actual outing occurred. We will probably never know who forged these documents, although one can safelyassume that someone wanting to start a war against Iraq was behind them, someone trying to show that Saddam Hussein was violating U.N. sanctions and trying to reestablish his 1990s-suspended nuclear program, like someone in the Bush/Cheney administration.

So, just coincidentally (har, har), these forged documents end up in the hands of CIA station chief, who relays them to CIA headquarters, and the next time new VP Dick Cheney is briefed, he’s told about them and wonders if the “information” contained in them is true, which leads to top CIA officials asking covert CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson to check with her husband, retired U.S. Ambassador Joe Wilson, to see if he’d go over to Niger and check it out (since he’d served as ambassador over in Africa, knew Niger government officials and French officials, and had done similar fact-finding assignments for the CIA before).

Joe Wilson reported back to the CIA that this claim lacked substance (not knowing at the time that this claim was based on crudely forged documents, Strangely, while in the sole possession of top officials in the Bush/Cheney administration for several years, these documents were never found to be forgeries, but three weeks before the beginning of the March 2003 Iraq invasion, when these documents were finally shared with U.N. IAEA officials, they realized almost immediately that they were forgeries).

Joe Wilson report back to the CIA, his ‘”inconvenient truth”-telling, upset the Republicans beating the Iraq war drums. Bush pushed this false claim in his State of the Union address, even as U.N. WMD inspectors were on the ground in Iraq and not finding anything, no active WMD or nuclear programs, Several months after the Niger documents were exposed as forgeries, after the U.N. WMD inspectors were kicked out of Iraq, and after the first U.S. forces surging into Iraq weren’t finding any WMD either (as embedded Judith Miller reported in the NY Times), Joe Wilson wrote his op-ed taking the lying, deceitful Bush/Cheney administration to task, shortly after which his covert CIA agent wife, Valerie Plame Wilson, was outed in retaliation.

Unfortunately, for those who believe in our country and believe in the truth, none of those Republicans responsible for this treasonous act have been arrested, prosecuted and thrown into jail. And I still wonder who forged and then planted these forged Niger documents.

Frequently the argument from the right justifying invasion of privacy is; “if you don’t have anything to hide why would it bother you for us to look?” It would appear a similar argument might be offered back to a government that increasingly claims the need to listen, watch, x-ray, test and pat down its citizens. If it hasn’t got anything to hide, why should it be worried about the releasing of documents to WikiLeaks. If they do, the correction lies in not doing such behaviour in the first place and retaining some integrity of principles, rather than in repressing the information. If its good enough for the citizens to have their private communications inspected its good enough for the government. If they want a respect for privacy, they need to show a respect for privacy.

It’s just so absurd that a self-professed patriot like Liz Cheney would urge suppression of free speech and expect another nation to censor their citizens by shutting down the Wikileaks’ website. Thanks for taking my posts out of context, that alone has proven that you have the comprehension skills equivalent to most of America. Perhaps I wasn’t clear enough when I said WE all have blood on our hands. This renders her argument moot. I’m merely mocking the logical basis of Liz’s argument.

As for my investing, I bet on baby boomers (the greediest generation) failing, period. And they do it quite well i might add. They cheat each other out of financial deals, screw eacother over on loans and domestic policy and just about everything related to money. It’s like watching crabs in a bucket and shooting fish in a barrel, all in one. I take it you are in this boomer group–angry as hell and looking for the next guy to screw over. Want to know my strategy? Well, I short; REITS, Big banks, and if i could i’d short your 401k, sir. All legal as they are just the other side of a long bet which i know you will not attempt to tell me is illegal. The results are simple when one considers the target group: Boomers. Poor planning leads to piss poor results. Dont like it? You generation is in charge sir, do something about it.

And as for social security and the welfare state – unnecessary. To me, the only person that will look out after myself is me. This is why i reject the welfare state. It would save us all a lot of money which we could then use to take care of ourselves – if we choose too that is. I’m not paying for anyone to waste space because they chose not to. Call me all your isms but thats just plain American, i’m sorry you don’t see it that way, our forefathers did.
