In an interview published Monday, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange revealed that his whistleblower website intends to publish a trove of secret documents exposing the corruption of a major American bank.

He declined to say which bank, but he offered what may be a telling hint last year as to who the megaleak will target.

“At the moment, for example, we are sitting on 5GB from Bank of America, one of the executive’s hard drives,” Assange told the technology site Computer World in an article published on October 9, 2009.

The Wikileaks chief continued: “Now how do we present that? It’s a difficult problem. We could just dump it all into one giant Zip file, but we know for a fact that has limited impact. To have impact, it needs to be easy for people to dive in and search it and get something out of it.”

The Internet has been abuzz with speculations as to which bank the famous — or notorious — website will expose. Although Assange’s hint is far from a dead giveaway, his strategic approach to publishing secrets suggests that his next target may well be Bank of America, the nation’s largest bank in terms of assets.

Speaking to Andy Greenberg of Forbes, Assange said the leak — to be unveiled early in 2011 — “will give a true and representative insight into how banks behave at the executive level in a way that will stimulate investigations and reforms.”

It would blow the lid off an “ecosystem of corruption,” he added.

The Australian-born Wikileaks chief predicted it would be as damaging as the Enron emails, which brought the powerful Houston-based energy company to its knees and led to its bankruptcy.

Assange has long maintained that he is sitting on far more secret documents than he can handle at any given moment, and is generally astute in terms of winning the maximum amount of media coverage for his leaks.

Having exposed explosive US secrets pertaining to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Wikileaks this week has put the US in damage control mode after revealing 250,000 classified diplomatic cables obtained from the Department of State without permission, exposing the modus operandi of American foreign relations and countless diplomatic secrets of world leaders.

    Bravo to Mr. Assange…
I can’t think of a better thing to expose than the inner workings of the plutocrats and their daylight robber barons.

I hope it is Bank of America!

I’m glad I have no dealings with them at all. If Assange’s docs confirm what we already know about how criminal BofA is, perhaps there will be a lot of homeowners whose loans with them will be forgiven.

    A Grand Unraveling ?

While the French-based movement, StopBanque, is organizing a massive, popular, withdrawal of money from banks on the 7th of December in order to bring the banksters to heel, Assange and Wikileaks may now be prompted to release their 5 gigabytes of damaging bank documents much earlier than planned.

Good. I have Bank of America in the office pool.

I saw it as a no brainer considering their origins go back to the Bank of Italy, which has to have some deviant connection to the Vatican I’ve not yet uncovered…

Just read on another site that White House is going all out to stop future leaks. Protecting the banks has become the first priority of government.

I thought it might be BofA. So, what happens if we find out for sure all that is suspected? What will happen? As was the case with the savings and loan scam in the 80′s a handful of mid-level management were jailed and or fined and the real perps were given a pass (and many eventually became prominent elected officials and their backers). There will be no day of reckoning. One thing that makes Julian and WikiLeaks so interesting is the fact that neither he or the website has a nationality. That is really sexy. I have a wonderful idea for how to reform currency from the bottom up that bypasses what is increasingly proved to be a broken system. However, I need to find a way to be country-less as Julian has. Fuck the dollar, imagine money that is owned and controlled by those that use it and valued based on it’s usage. I know how to do it and how to transition to it. I’m talking about web-based money and it begins with something I call the proxy-card.

His business practice is the complete opposite of the bankers’ purposely exposing themselves by writing uncollateralized “collateralized debt obligations”.

“As an example…” it could easily be Goldman-Sachs or JPMorgan-Stanley. WOW you guys really need to see how the financial world is taking this news. All of a sudden the “free market” is in danger because of this. If the free market really is free a bit of sunshine on trading practices shouldn’t be an issue however they are really afraid this could bring down the whole system. This could be BIG however I am sure the SEC investigations will downplay it as much as possible. But when these pigs are sweating then you know they know this could be really bad. Their panic is just further evidence that the system is rigged.

Sadly yes, since our lapdog media fail to do the job.

  • Anonymous

And notice how they keep doing their best to eliminate every regulation and rule possible. The more they squeal, the more it’s pretty obvious that they are doing those things and more.

The thing is that NONE of their “business’ creates a single thing. It’s all just playing with money. The entire Reagan era financial scheme has been built on paper. Like they say, there is no “there” there. There is no substance to any of it, it’s all money made by having money and not by building, making or even contributing anything to society. It has no reality, it’s like a ghost, a spectre from a Shakespeare play. The thing these people are so terrified of is that reality will come to our financial system, and their actual lack of REAL money will show up before they can cash out.

It’s like the guy who “made” the pet rock. He was smart enough to know when the market was dropping off, and he sold the whole lot of what he had left to a guy who knew about them, but didn’t know the fad was on the way out.

Right now, they are like the guy who HAD the rocks, what they are afraid of is being the guy who ended up with the warehouse full of them and no market. At least that guy could turn around and line his driveway with the rocks, these guys have literally NOTHING real. I’ve been watching this go on since Reagan, and I’ve been saying the same things the whole time. I’ve been waiting for this to fall to pieces for a long time, but it’s happening with a ferocity that even I didn’t foresee.

Good. May it take them out to never rise again. Then the rest of us can get back to having a REAL economy.

As I understand it BofA gained ground during the depression when the Giannini Bros foreclosed on a lot of the artichoke farmers down in Half Moon Bay. Just slimy creeps. I used to work legal and a case came in where a fairly young man inherited the family farm, with an orchard and with fruit processing plant on site. BofA got hold of him, convinced him to get a new processing facility built and he didn’t realize that the payments were so high that he was going to lose everything. What saved the day was there was a meeting at the facility between the firm I worked for and BofA, about an hour in they hear a plane getting closer, it landed and Mr. and Mrs. Gallo (of Gallo Wines) departed the plane and made it clear to BofA that they would lose every account in Napa Valley if they proceeded with foreclosure, of course BofA dismissed the suit. To this day I still get the occasional bottle of Gallo just because . . . .

It doesn’t surprise. Bank of America is one of the top three most corrupt banks, right up there with Chase and Citicorp. Every once in a while, a leak gets out of hand and they manage to contain it and go on with the corruption, until the next one. Sooner rather than later, the whole thing is gonna explode and that will be the one event that catapults the collapse of the Empire. These institutions are – and have been for many years – corrupt from top to bottom, in and out.

  • Johnny Warbucks

You realize that the problem is that we the smart people have so very little money left that they’ll probably laugh at all of us lining out the door withdrawing our $25 from their banks.

  • Johnny Warbucks

To me, those bastards are the worst offenders too. Worse than BofA and that’s a lot to say.

  • Johnny Warbucks

BoA stock has been worthless for quite sometime now. Even they know not to buy into it.

..and the rivers to run wild again.

  • Johnny Warbucks

Actually, that is not true. We can put each and every single one of these predators out of business in a matter of month if we all – that really means each and every single one of us – stops using their services. Withdraw whatever money you have out of the bank and pay for things with cash. Stop going to Walmart and buy at the local farmer markets. Cut your credit cards and send them back. Stop flying. Drop your health insurance and, if you get sick, run to the emergency room. Stop driving. That is what I call a general strike of sorts. The entire country would come to a screeching halt and they would have no choice but to acquiesce. See? No violence. No breaking anything. No setting anything on fire. No protests. Nobody goes to jail. Nobody gets hurt.

  • Johnny Warbucks

As it should be when the banks run the government.

  • Johnny Warbucks

Me too. I’m very happy with them and their personal service. However, the problem is that when the big ones go, they’ll drag the little ones with them. Nobody is safe anymore.

  • Anonymous

I thought those student protests over the tuition hikes at Berkeley the other day were going to start the whole revolution rolling. What happened with that?

  • Johnny Warbucks

Me too but, hard as it may seem, Chase is actually worse. I know for a fact that Chase was committing fraud on mortgages and credit cards accounts for a very long time and were instrumental in the mortgage crisis, something which was completely swept under the carpet. I know they got me big time and also foreclosed on a friend’s home by simply not depositing the payments until the house went into foreclosure. They were doing this all over the country. We all got together to file a class action lawsuit against them and couldn’t even find a lawyer to do it, they were all afraid. That’s how bad it was!

Yes, the fraudsters house of cards is crumbling. The extend of the fraud, in fact, will bring about the demise of all financial institution who participated in leveraged mortgage backed security activities. With no clear title, and through the mysterious MERS system, the banks have managed to decimate the entire concept of property rights (as clearly stated by settled law) likely making invalid the majority of any real estate contract entered into in the past ten years.

You are totally on target re Chase. A family friend persuaded Chase to refinance at a lower rate, the mortgage she held with them, since rates were going down so much. Turns out–at refinance closing she signed a bunch of papers with obscure language and several months later–never having missed a payment in her life–Chase informed her that if she didn’t come up with $20,000+ dollars in addition to the next payment, she would lose her house.

She just gave up and let them take the house. Not to say that Bank of America is any better.

“The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated!”

We are talking about one of the pillars of American capitalism which was just bailed out by the government and is widely considered still “too big too fail.”

I don’t think a few gossipy emails no matter how embarrassing are going to do much damage unless they show actual, substantiateable and provable fraud and even then it would have to be fraud on a huge scale to matter much to those investors who only care about the bottom line.

I guess they could kidnap the 1000 people at wikileaks and illegally fly them to the US for trial, even then, IANAL but I’m not sure you can charge foreigners with treason. That’s pretty much what they were doing. Another trick was not to apply payments on the receipt date, post them late and charge late fees. In my friend’s case, he was paying but they were not applying the payments to his mortgage, he proof that he had sent it and they would just give him the run around, three months later, they foreclosed on his house & sold it on the courthouse steps. They left him and his family on the streets. Saddest story. He has a blog on it. And they continue to do it. That and more too. Those bastards should be taken straight to the guillotine.

My only disagreement with Julian Assange is that he is waiting too long to release the documents. He must do it NOW and not wait until 2011.

Assange is no more a criminal than Frank Rich. Rich gets ‘secret’ giveaways for his scoops Assange downloads his, and doesn’t edit them. With Interpol the process is “convicted until guilty.” Habeus corpus? Who needs it? The Mossad runs it all anyway. “How guilty would you like him to be?”

It could easily be Citigroup/Citibank too – a multi-national banking beast for which I was involuntarily employed for around 11 years (I was an AT&T employee in a credit division that AT&T sold to Citibank in the mid-90′s and I was too close to retirement to get work somewhere else. Thus I became overnight the very thing I never ever wanted to be: a “banker.”.). As a small fry in the belly of the beast I was witness daily to Citibank’s insatiable greed and innovative new ways of squeezing the little guy without mercy.

May Assange survive to continue with the posting of this material. He surely must know his life is in mortal danger.

Many have recently forgotten what actually happened in Sweden with that seemingly highly confused prosecutor, Marianne Ny, so here’s some excellent excerpts from a recent article, and please don’t forget that while Marianne continues her public outcry about interrogating Julian, the Swedish police are investigating her office.

(Please go to the site to read full article.)

    http://radsoft.net/news/20100908,00.shtml

“STOCKHOLM (Radsoft) — The internal affairs division of the Swedish police found that the entire dossier on the Assange case was leaked to the media. The Chancellor of Justice along with the ‘IAD’ are now going to pursue the matter in an attempt to find out who broke the law.

“The Chancellor’s office says the police were contacted 28 August by Aftonbladet editor in chief Jan Helin who told them he had access to the complete dossier of the Assange case – something Helin today denies.”
    ……..

“The Aftonbladet leak becomes the third leak in the Assange case. Maria Kjellstrand of the prosecutor’s office was responsible for the first when she – without legal backing – verified all details in the case with the tabloid Expressen.

The second leak occurred shortly after Assange’s one and only interview with the police where he specifically demanded (and received) guarantees from the authorities that there would be no further leaks – and especially not to Expressen.
    …..

” ‘The only victim here is me’, Assange told the AFP in a telephone interview today. ‘These accusations are baseless, and the process by which they’ve come out is disturbing.’ ”

‘This entire rape investigation has been conducted without my input. No one has asked me any questions regarding the rape case. The police refuse to say if there is a warrant out for me or not.’

Yeah no need for excessive greed because it would be handed to them on a silver platter.

Having small banks, on the other hand, means competition with other small banks which, in turn, prevents greed from even being an option.

The people behind the massive banks are the SAME people behind the government RIGHT NOW. For the people, by the people? Yeah right.

Sadly, the “people” can’t make the changes that are so desperately needed to not live within the grips of the government. Money controls everything and right now there is no greater power. Every waking moment for citizens is filled with the need to work work work…for what? So we can have *just enough* to pay bills, send kids to school, and plan for our retirements all our lives because we are so worried about having enough money to live on for the last few years we are alive? We are not people living our lives with freedom – we are people living in a endless tornado trying to grab at money because without it we can’t eat, live in houses, have education, health-care…and ALL of this is happening because the government and the banks have the collective power to do it.

Will people become angry enough over the government raping us of our intended freedoms that violence is what we will use?

Bill Engdahl is top quality. Gordon Duff is saying the same thing, that it’s all about demonizing Pakistan, and particularly insinuating a casus belli for the next big event, Iran.

It’s funny, though — I feel a sad sympathy for otherwise courageous people who turn waxen white and run from the subject of 9/11. I include Ron Paul, and just two nights ago, a speech in Canada by one of my heroes, “gorgeous” George Galloway, the dragon-slayer of Norm Coleman. It hurt me to see him back-pedaling from it, but I wanted to say, “he has a right to pick his battles”. Maybe it’s just a career killer, and he has too much invested in his pre-9/11 accomplishments to risk them.

Such leaks ‘empower’ the already totalitarianized states to be more concerned about hiding themselves from the public scrutiny.
Hence, the states would claim more rights and power to invade the privacy of citizens and keep their own action secret.
Probably, such leaks are made with the ulterior motive of minimizing citizenry and making states and elites associated with state tyronically powerful.

So many secrets, so little time.

I hope he gets to release those Koch Industries emails before “The West” guns him down in connection with questioning about allegations of rape in Sweden (“I thought he pulled a gun…” “we investigated Officer Edvardsen, and found he did nothing wrong…”)

They are rumored to show exactly who was behind “Climategate” and the web of funding behind sites like WattsUpWithThat and “think tanks” like Heartland and Marshall Institutes.

He doesn’t want to release everything at once – understandable – but on the other hand, I think he’s “running out of time”. Sad, but true. He probably has some other people around the planet with copies of stuff, who can release things already in the pipeline; but as for new leaks in the future, it takes awhile for a group to build up a reputation for trustworthiness (as Bradley Manning found out the hard way when he contacted California hacker Adrian Lamo, who turned him into the FBI).

After the Savings and Loan debacle of the late 80′s some Banking Officials actually were brought to justice and even had to spend a little time in jail. Now there parallel brothers in Banking are claiming to be so necessary to the system and so talented that they could never be replaced. They continue to award themselves bonuses beyond belief in the light of what no one can deny is their failure in putting the world banking system on the brink on not only insolvency but also into the realm of total mistrust by the populace because of their unethical behavior that we all no is nothing less than fraudulent criminality. If there is information against any of the Big Banks and Bankers that will force them to operate in a clean safe way then it should come out. Any Banking Institution that is too big to fail is in fact too big to exist! Please someone bring us back to the Trust Busting mind set of Teddy Roosevelt.

I say bring them down today, ruin their Christmas like they’ve ruined Christmas for hundreds of thousands of people

I disagree, the slower he releases the documents the more publicity and examination they will receive. He made several mistakes with the first set on the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. He released them on a Friday at about 5 o’clock which is just about the worst time to release anything, which is why governments typically do their embarrassing document drops then. And he released far too much information at once. People struggled to get through it all and no doubt some good stuff good ignored because there was just too much at once.

This release was smarter it came out on Sunday and Monday. There was less of it and there has been a much closer examination of it which is has been better for the people who are going through it. The slower he releases it the more coverage it will get. But so far even with what we have seen, the effect I think has been highly exaggerated. Much of it is more confirmatory than expository. In other words, we have known much of this and what this has contained has only confirmed what many of us already knew.

  • Anonymous

I participated in those protests, some of us got our heads bashed in, I still have a scar from one unfortunate incident, some people got shot at and shot, and some people died. If that constitutes shocking the system in your world so be it. In the end, we accomplished next to nothing if that, and provoked an already emerging consolidation of power.

  • Anonymous

Well, truth to power, we’ll see what the fall out is after the information on Bank of America comes out. So far all the great reporting on the financial crisis by Matt Taibbi, and others who have written on the extent of the fraud, extortion, and abuse that preceded the collapse in October of 2008 have not produced a ripple. It isn’t as if we don’t already know how crooked all these characters are. Read the comments, nearly every one here has an understanding of how the system works and how it i rigged.

Bank of America was so unpopular in the 60s and 70s that they had to start building banks in the form of bunkers for fear of all out attack and they survived that. And that was during a period when students actually took to the streets instead of a message board so we’ll see. Michael Moore has a insightful comment in the special features of the DVD of SICKO (2007). He is sitting at a table in his family’s backyard in Michigan and he observes that people ask him how he is able to do what he does, he says that he was at first surprised that he could make money doing it, but he later realized that the reason he gets to do it is because he makes money for others and that the system can absorb almost anything that one throws at it and continue functioning.

Sacvan Berkovitch makes the same point far more eloquently and with greater nuance in “The Rites of Ascent: Transformations in the Symbolic Construction of America” (1993) in which he argues that the system basically usurps nearly all criticism and either turns it into an enterprise, the kind of thing Moore recognized or it just envelops it, takes it in, digests it, stripes it of its radical character, and makes it its own. The 20 year evolution of Earth Day is a good example of this!

So after all the Bank of America information is released we’ll see what effect it has! And we’ll see whose estimation is correct. It may give us more details and it may confirm the worst things we think about Bank of America. But I doubt that it will re-order the American financial system.

Indeed, it will probably have about the same effect on the BofA as the release of the helicopter shooting in Iraq and the war logs that were already released had on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It should be telling or at least give some here pause to remember that with all the information that Wikileaks released about the wars, the only real change in command or direction came after a story about General McChrystal and his staff in Rolling Stone magazine forced his retirement. But the twin wars drag on!

As sual the US press is over a year late with the news. Wikileak already reported that but the US press didn’t want to print it. There are more banks that Wikileak has information on with the documents of corrupt done in the US and Internationally. Even BOA admitted under oath at the hearing they only own 23 per cent of homes while 77 per cent they service with no knowledge of the note/investers who owned them. MERIS lost the documents and now just has employees sign fake names to cover it up. In other words 77 per cent of BOA’s home loans have no owners of Deeds and payment are just being kept by the bank. Chase is caught up in the same mess as all the major US banks played monopoly with home loans and lost the deeds. Banks paid millions to get Republican Law Makers elected to pass a bill giving them a pass on the crimes so they can get the courts to make another deed to cover the lost. Senator Dodd took his illegal money and left office and others will follow as this was the biggest crime ever in the History of Americans and many law makers, Alan Greenspan and other top Feds directors helped it happen.

BRING IT ON! Democracy in the U.S. equals cfriminals running banks who are as protected as members in the old Kremlin days. Wait a minute..Washington is a magnification of that.
Democracy…laughable. I suggest watching “Casino Jack’ about Abramoff. His religious buddy, Judge Ellen Huvelle, let him off with a 5 year sentence and he was out in 3. He just quit a gig at Tov Pizza in Baltimore. They protect their own as do all US politicians and ceo’s.
That americans still waste their good time going to a polling place is beyond me. Head scratching indeed. Thank you WIKILEAKS!

Julian, you’re a true hero to the American people. You have the tenacity to take on a major bank such as B of A and not flinch. I am a current customer of those bastards and I have nothing but horror stories and obvious violations of federal regulations that I have documented over the last 18 months. I have two corporations that bank with these crooks only because they took over a wonderful bank in Chicago: LaSalle Bank, and destroyed it and the culture and the employee base and the customer base. I have documented their back dating of debits causing over drafts and therefore fee charges. I have sent enails to their executives complaining about these abuses and had no response. I have paid them many millions in interest on lines of credit and receive nothing but grief in return. With a stellar credit rating and huge profits in my firms. PLEASE TAKE THEM DOWN. I WILL DO ANYTHING TO HELP YOU. MY EMAIL ADDRESS IS ABGHUNTER@YAHOO.COM. GOOD LUCK. I HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SO THAT I CAN ASSIST IN ANY WAY I CAN.
