National Review editor: Parents of kids in school breakfast programs are criminals

Parents of children who participate in school breakfast programs are “criminally negligent,” says the Washington editor of the conservative National Review.

Kate O’Beirne, who also appears as a pundit on MSNBC, made the comment at a Republican strategy session she moderated at the Hudson Institute Friday.

“My question is what poor excuse for a parent can’t rustle up a bowl of cereal and a banana?” O’Beirne asked. “I just don’t get why millions of school children qualify for school breakfasts unless we have a major wide spread problem with child neglect.”

She continued, “If that’s how many parents are incapable of pulling together a bowl of cereal and a banana, then we have problems that are way bigger than — that problem can’t be solved with a school breakfast, because we have parents who are just criminally … criminally negligent with respect to raising children.”

O’Beirne’s comments come even as statistical evidence mounts that more and more Americans are struggling to eke out a living.

Last month, the US Census Bureau reported that the number of people living in poverty jumped to 14.3 percent of the population in 2009 — a 15-year high, and up from 12.5 percent two years earlier. That means approximately 2.5 million people have fallen into poverty since the recession began.

The poverty rate last declined in 2000, and has been climbing since.

O’Beirne’s comments go “far beyond the sacred right-wing cow of personal responsibility” and amount to “outright cruelty,” argues the Crooks and Liars blog, which first flagged the comments.

These pigs are out there shouting to give zillionaires a fat year-end bonus and extend it for a couple of years while sticking it to poor people who rely on programs like the school lunch and breakfast program to survive….

Maybe she should shut up and listen to what’s going on around her for a change. If she did, she might not, miss the fact that food banks are struggling to meet demand as more and more families struggle to keep roofs over their heads, sacrificing other necessities like food and clothing. Since 2006, the need for some form of assistance has tripled. Tripled.

O’Beirne joins a growing chorus of conservative commentators who have taken exception with the federal government’s expansions to school meal programs in the wake of the recession.

Fox News in October introduced a segment on a new school dinner program in Washington, DC, by asking if it would “destroy American families.”

In June, talk show host Rush Limbaugh responded to a report that 16 million children would go hungry over the summer holidays once school meals stopped by suggesting children check their refrigerator, and, failing that, a nearby McDonald’s. Then Limbaugh added:

There’s another place if none of these options work to find food; there’s always the neighborhood dumpster. Now, you might find competition with homeless people there, but there are videos that have been produced to show you how to healthfully dine and how to dumpster dive and survive until school kicks back up in August.

O’Beirne currently appears on MSNBC’s Hardball as a pundit, and has appeared on CNN’s Crossfire and PBS’ NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.

This video was broadcast on CSPAN, Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, and was uploaded to the Web by Crooks and Liars.

Do humans actually get any nastier or more greedy than republicans? Maybe someone should tell this BITCH that her party just refused to help out MILLIONS of AMERICANS who just lost their unemployment. And all so the top 2%, who are RESPONSIBLE for the lower 98%’s predicament, can have more and more money. THEY ALREADY HAVE IT ALL!!!

Woman, you are a disgrace to humanity. To have to call you an American fills me with a strong desire to vomit. Your lack of compassion for those who you have no doubt helped to destroy is just mind boggling. How anyone could possible have so little compassion is just beyond me. You are devoid of human feeling. May your vault fall down and you be buried in your mounds of money. Rot in it, in fact. You have nothing left in your soul, anyway. I doubt even the dog will miss you. Good God, you make me sick. Pardon me while I go and throw up.

We do have a major problem. The child neglect is on the part of the Right-Wing Religeous fanatics that shoot doctors that provide Choice to parents and then will have nothing to do with helping that family or any family with children. This just proves that the elite right has so far moved away from “Provide for the Public good” that they are insinuating that the time has returned for debtors prison.

If your job has moved to India and the businesses in the area that supported the Jobs and employees that are gone have also gone out of business, then you are a criminal and should have your children removed due to neglect. I wonder what the Right has in mind for the new wards of the State when they are removed from the house due to neglect.

Let’s see what is out there that has worked around the world, sweat-shops, child labor, personal attendants and of course the right wings favorite secret….. child prostitution

Is this hag actually a parent?? There are many kids (I was one of them) who simply don’t wake up hungry and don’t get hungry until they have been awake for a couple of hours. These people are truly nuts-and Rush needs to dumpster dive instead of advising it for children. With his fat @ss- out- of- shape physique, eating garbage could only improve his appearance.

The heartless bitch doesn’t get there’s a Great Depression, excuse me, Great Recession ravaging the country? That there aren’t enough jobs (forget about good paying ones) for the masses of unemployed/underemployed people in these United States? A box of cereal and a banana or two may be out of someone’s financial reach, Ms. O’Beirne, when one is nickel and dimed in a service sector job. Please place the blame squarely on the real criminals, the bought and sold prostitutes which make up the Congress.

Rot in hell! She and Limballs should spend a week (in winter) living in a dumpster and fighting each other for food then tell us how we should never help our fellow man who’s lost his job feed his family.

Well…if your ‘neglect choices’ are 1) lose the apartment and be homeless 2) lose the utilities and live in the dark with no water or heat and 3) cut the food budget and take as many charitable offerings and freebies as possible

…guess which one is the first to go.

How wonderful it must be to sit there in judgment after a life of such comfort and luxury that no hard choices have ever been made. Those lobbyist bribes and lecture circuit fees certainly make for a secure living…of course…you just have to keep saying things that make people who have tons of cash happy.

I already did the homeless gig once…and I was young and my own mistakes caused it…but I got out of it without help because I was a young single male with no one to take care of but himself. It wasn’t easy, but I did it without federal help…which can only be done if your willing to stay homeless while you work and save up money. It can’t be done by people with dependents. For most people, ‘bootstrap levitation’ isn’t a possibility…they don’t even have boots. I’m just grateful that I did.

People like this make me sick. Once a newly divorced mother of two trying to eke out a living on $2 an hour plus tips I learned the priorities. First is rent. Second is heat in the winter and food in the summer. If it weren’t for the school breakfast and lunch programs, my pipes might have frozen in the cold winters.

I wasn’t “neglectful” nor was I a criminal. I was just a loving mother trying to raise my children the best I could.

O’Beirne, Limbaugh, and other spoiled brats should be ashamed. And, you know what? Those who have once needed the lunch and breakfast programs are the first to stand up and feed their neighbors. It will be these “criminals” that will come to their rescue if they are ever in real need.

This is not a right vs left problem. It’s an elite vs the rest of us problem. In my travels I have found that the elitist left can be just as selfish and cruel. They just don’t publicize it because the American Left likes to campaign on being the “caring ones”.

The difference is that the average left wing voter properly identifies the “enemy” as the elites. The average right wing voter thinks “government” is the problem. This can be fixed. If the left wing voter convinces the right wing voter that the “government” is actually “we, the people” and the right wing voter can convince the left that “government” has distanced itself from “we, the people”, then, perhaps, We the People can unite and actually control our own government for a change.

This lady has a point. Anytime a child shows up unfed the home should be investigated. There very well could be neglect taking place. Maybe not, but it’s okay to make sure. Those looking for a free ride would think it over if they know their unfed child means a knock on the door.

  • Anonymous

Did you ever think that those children got that stuff before their parents lost their job? I have a friend who bought her children everything their hearts desired. Now, they’re both out of work, the unemployment hasn’t kicked in, and they have no cash for food, mortgage payments, or even gasoline to look for work.

Until you walk a mile in their shoes. . . don’t judge.

  • LumberJock

Then let’s see her put her money where her mouth is. Locate a family; report same to Family & Children’s services; sign an affidavit charging the family, and see how long she can go without being sued for slander, libel and the state prosecutes as well.

As usual a completely air headed reactionary. If she had shit for brains, it would result in a silent amd odorless fart.

  • Anonymous

figures…her & Rush, total slimeballs …betcha they would NEVER so much as entertain the THOUGHT of dumpster diving. PIGS!

  • LumberJock

To restate this in nutritional terms. As long as the program provides 2 meals daily, that’s fungible cash that can be redirected to look for non-existant jobs, so unemployment and other social services can be maintained.

You try sitting across from an unemployment couselor and using “I fed my children instead of looking for a job” as an excuse for not looking for work.

These social programs are designed not to replace cereal, milk & a banana, but replace the cash in the budget so they don’t have to be purchased.

Let’s do a better job of framing the discussion; as long as I’Bierne talks without boundaries, she wins the discussion.

  • LumberJock

    I don’t believe you.

  • Anonymous

    Stupid idea.

You’d be the first to whine about your taxes going up to investigate these claims.

Seriously, pull your head out, it’s one of the worst cases of rectal/cranial inversion known to science.

The only people insisting on “a free ride” are O’Beirne, Limbaugh, their repulsive ilk and easily-led-by-the-nose sheeple masquerading as an audience.

  • http://voxmagi-necessarywords.blogspot.com/ VoxMagi

Yeah… I notice they frame the debate to keep away from the final endgame…they don’t really feel the money can be better apportioned to provide greater aid elsewhere…they are fundamentally opposed to any aid of any kind for the jobless or impoverished. Even if we scoured these programs, the money would never come back to the rest of us…it would be squandered on truly useless corporate boondoggles…at least at present it serves a useful purpose…putting two meals a day into stomachs across the country…which is better than the alternatives championed by the GOP…starvation and jailed parents.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/5ADH43ZCS3NITAIJKNHHOXH5SY C H

Sure. And if there is not much food in the house than they should be hungry. It amazes me continually that there is enough money for wholesale theft by the wealthy for the wealthy. And enough money for endless war, enough money for everything but the children and the poor. Outsource the jobs, keep a multitude unemployed and than complain that the poor, which is nearly all of us, should be able to drop food as a necessity.

As things stand now, we must not become greedy for jobs and food. We are told that the unemployed are lazy, and the children are hungry because the parents are no good, and Simpson say’s seniors are greedy. In other words 95% of us rate lower than the top percentage that have all the money and assets. Only the wealthy deserve it all. And we have one newcomer who say’s no one should be allowed to vote that does not own property.

What a kind country we live in. So humane. Money is the total criterion by which the GOP decides who is worthy to live, or simply to exist marginally. Talk about your greed and hatred of average Americans. I guess there are no Republicans out of work. And no Rep. that are hungry. I guess not.

Really? When I was first divorced I was left destitute with two young children to feed. When I was finally on my way up and moved my children out of the inner city and into an average school district I was sent a paper that told me that if my children only had one pair of shoes I was a lousy parent. If my children didn’t have brand new clothes I was an abusive parent. If my children didn’t have medical insurance I was an abusive parent. Really? Because I was still not rich I must be an abusive parent?

Even Christians should know this is B.S. Only the poor can inherit the earth. That means. . . the poor are the best of the crop. It seems to me that the rich are just jealous because they are damned by birth and think by punishing the poor for being poor that they might stop their own spiritual destruction. Nah. . . I think not.

Has this idiot noticed the price of cold cereal lately, or how nutritionally bankrupt breakfast cereals are? She wants poor kids fed on that? They’re malnourished enough. Now, mind you, what the schools provide is not much better. But it is better than starving. Marginally.

Denying access to food assistance because of anecdotal evidence is contrary to logic. Your observations need to be followed up with research. Maybe a family relative better situated is able to provide luxuries to help the children cope with a less than ideal domestic situation. I would be happy to provide for a child’s enjoyment to alleviate the psychological stigma of being poor.

That’s when Bush Jr became a resident in the White House. The rising poverty is due to the stupid idiotic Conservatism bullshit that never works. Conservatism increases poverty.

Exactly! And, because this money only accounts for a minimal percentage of what goes out of our public expenditure, they really have no leg to stand on.

Most of our taxes goes to the Defense Budget. Another large portion goes to paying other countries to do our biddiing. Another large chunk goes to the corporations in what is known as “corporate welfare”. And the rest is just in play on Wall Street.

When you look at what is actually our money, or “public funds”, things like Social Security, Social Services(Welfare), Housing(HUD), Food Stamps, and school food programs take a very small portion of our money. The Bank Bailouts in one year amounted to twenty-five years of unemployment, SS, Welfare, School Lunches and HUD combined. Who’s screwing who?

there’s this weird moral judgment that comes down to us from the 15th century: if you are poor it’s because god disapproves of you. some how, that’s what we still get. but the truth is, the poor shall inherit, because the rich will have killed each other in the battle for the last buck. I’d like to see a “transportation card” installed in the public system. If you live in a place with decent bus service it provides bus fare to look for work and get to your job. If you live in a place without public transportation it helps with either gas for your car or even a donated car. Just like HUD helps with housing perhaps TRANS could help make sure one can even get to a job.

The best is our voice. Present hate with love, reactionary with reason, fear with bravery, anger with laughter.

I’m not afraid of her or the people she represents. On the contrary, I feel kind of sorry for her, and them, because there’s way, way more of us than them. We, the tired masses yearning to be free, will get by somehow. And we will be free. We’ll do what we must to survive, and we will, because as a community – as a social class – we will turn to (not on) each other. Like we always have. Organize, people. Know your neighbors and organize.

It’s not that parents can’t “rustle up some cereal & a banana”.
It’s that many of these kids have to get ready for school on their own because om & dad are already at wok, sometimes at the first of their 2 obs because of how REPUBLICANS have killed the middle class!
It started with Reagan and it has continued from there.
So while there may be food in the house – although for some that might be difficult, but while there may be food in the house the kids themselves don’t think to have breakfast until they GET to school and see their friends.
WHEN will Republicans stop acting like Scrooge Mc Duck and say “mine, mine, mine” when it comes to social services and the future of our country?
WHEN will they see that you can be wealthy and still CARE about the greater good of the country?
WHENwill it be about someone else other than themselves?
and IF they ever come to their senses will itthen be too late?

Kate O’Beirne is so out of touch that she is criminally negligent in her understanding with what it is to be very poor. There is something wrong with her if she can’t comprehend pulling together the rent to get to work, pulling together money for a doctor’s appointment for a sick child because of no health insurance, pulling together money for rent and late rent fees. Kate is criminally negligent in her lack of understanding of basic arithmetic regarding not enough money to pay for food.

Ronnie Reagan used to tell a story about welfare queens in Cadillacs, too! Turned out those stories were mostly BS! I bet your stories are as well!

It’s easy to come on a website and claim you are anything and then pretend to be all high and mighty and righteously indignant, but most of those people who do that are just plain old heartless right wing thugs.

They used to be less overt but they seem to be much more empowered now that the Republicans took back the House and the Teaparty has made it chic to tell updated versions of these old Reagan lies.

Now a person that has the vast tax breaks of the Bush administration wants to cut off hungry children. She wishes to put more coal in the Christmas stalkings of the poor in America. Kate puts herself in the position of being the real life Scrooge. Perhaps the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future could pay her a little visit, but is it possible that her heart is so cold that even these ghosts could not warm her heart. Probably is!

In the Republican’s attempts to starve the beast of government, look for them to also cut back on Social Security. They want to fight the economic problems caused by greedy criminal bankers and wall street brokers by cutting off the poor. They want a return to a modern day feudalism in which banking and corporate CEO’s become the modern day Lords and the rest of us will be their serfs. ThisIS MODERN DAY CLASS WARFARE and it is being raised by the wealthy. Perhaps they have forgotten the ultimate end of such a long war ends in many Marie Antoinette’s as the wealthy CEO’s will be held responsible. This will occur only after the extreme hardship that they prescribe has happened to many people particularly the weakest- our children, the sick and elderly. The Arizona Republican legislators already have their own form of real death panels refusing to pay for the medical care of some of that states sickest persons!

This woman is really saying Bah Humbug!

EXACTLY! Persons like Kate are the same persons that refused to believe the economy was tanking in 2007-2008. They were doing just FINE financially and thus believed everyone else must be doing fine as well. Despite being told over and over again that the rich were getting richer and poor getting poorer, they said things like “the fundamentals of the economy are strong”. One said americans were a bunch of whiners. Now here we are today with almost 10% unemployment, a GOP Congress who refuses to extend unemployment benefits, and these maroons still can’t figure out why kids need school breakfast programs????? The sad thing is that many of these “criminally negligent” parents as Kate labels them…..voted for the very people who now wish to cut them off at the knees. But by GOD…we better extend that tax cut for the gabillionaires or we’ll shut down the government ….right GOP? Jebus H. Fruckin Crise!

“If that’s how many parents are incapable of pulling together a bowl of cereal and a banana, then we have problems that are way bigger than — that problem can’t be solved with a school breakfast”

The rest of her sentence is pretty much garbage. The problem of course being that we are investing in the wealthy and punishing the poor for being poor.

How much are tax breaks costing the country? How much is school lunch/breakfast programs costing the country?

Two truths: 1. School breakfasts have helped a lot of kids who would otherwise have to do without; 2. Kate O’Beirne is a self justifying hypocrite.

Irish she certainly is, but if she really believes in the Christian faith then, at the moment of her passing, may she see open before her the drooling maws of hell. Has the woman no sense of irony, mocking and accusing the parents of hungry children when her own people suffered a starvation in the 19th century, one caused by wealthy people who turned a blind eye to the devastation caused by their insistence that they turn a profit and export food while whole families lay starving by the roadside? And would she have agreed with the corpulent member of Parliament who, on reading Swift’s “Modest Proposal” offered to his fellow MPs that it seemed to him a good and economically sound idea?

A despicable sentence pronounced against struggling parents by a despicable woman.

  • LumberJock

    Mr.Gaston,

With all respect – you don’t supply a structural solution to a universal and
ubiquitious problem. No family wants poverty, although I’m told my parents
revelled in my poverty since I wasn’t home doing what they wanted – and,
those circumstances everywhere aren’t symptoms of the real problem.

We need a real solution to poverty in the United States. A complete top to
bottom redistribution of wealth and jobs as a civil right, rather than a
reward for political correctness [supporting the republican't / tea-beggar
    agenda].

I realize that with the economy the way it is, we won’t see a real solution
and as long as we have christianity, capitalism and cabals of politics.
Elimination of the great-man theory of governance – the one that drives the
republican’t party and they keep applying to executives everywhere – is the
    first step.

Hey Kate to quote from your own bible…..
‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ Matthew 25:41-45

I am a single mom taking care of sick parents (one with cancer and the other disabled from an accident from working on the railroad) while going to the best grad school in my field… and looking for employment in an area struck by recession. I don’t even have the proper clothes to keep warm and I am disappointed by the quality of food they serve kids in schools… but it’s all we have. I cannot even get a fast food job as I’m “overqualified”

I have no problem working hard and making sacrifices… and I was a tax payer before my parents became ill and the recession. Why is corporate welfare and handouts to the wealthy okay and stripping the middle class of dignity the “right thing to do?” There is no shame in being poor, the shame is how you treat other people.

“which is better than the alternatives championed by the GOP…starvation and jailed parents. ”

Ah, but you’re missing some points that they don’t talk about in public settings, but all of their policies point to (come on, you can’t think they don’t understand the real life implications of what they are suggesting, do you?).. they want us to die off. Just think, if the poorest die off, if those without jobs die off, unemployment “goes down”, costs of Medicare goes down, the need for public assistance goes down, etc. etc. across the board.

And parents in prison? That’s cheap/free labor to do the jobs the ruling elite won’t do and don’t want to pay good wages to have done. Private prisons? How do you think they can be profitable (and they are) with a net reduction of tax payer input? They “take jobs” that the inmates can do (producing license plates, for example.. or telemarketing) and have forced labor at no wage cost, subsidized by the State (middle class taxes).

Make no mistake. They want poor people to either die or become slave labor. In their minds, that’s much better than them having to give up a few extra bottles of Brandy they paid $3,500 each for. If you haven’t watched “Capitalism: A Love Story” yet, see if you can at least find the bit about the Judge that was getting kick-backs from the privately owned Juvenile facility.. incarcerations skyrocketed as soon as the public facility was shut down and the private opened up. Privatization breeds corruption, every time.

How long does it take to whip up that oatmeal or those eggs if YOU DON’T HAVE ANY? You miss the fucking point. These people aren’t lazy, starving their kids because they can’t be bothered to get up and out of bed, they have NOTHING to give. No eggs. No oatmeal. No bananas.

Hunger in this country has turned into a real problem. This isn’t because people are lazy. It’s not because people are bad parents. It’s because the rich have spent the last 30+ years working AGAINST the rest of us. In the last 30 years, they have gained by over 200% while the rest of us have lost money. They are sitting on over a trillion dollars they REFUSE to invest in this country. Our people are suffering and you think it’s because they just can’t be BOTHERED to feed their kids?

There are 6 people looking for every ONE job that is being offered. That means that there is a real LACK of money. Not everyone has savings to fall back on, not everyone has a job, not everyone has the ability to just whip food up out of nowhere. There are literally MILLIONS of us out here who have been screwed by the companies that told us they would take care of us if we gave them our life’s work. WE acted in good faith, these jerk offs screwed us FOR PROFIT. Sounds like a bunch of prostitutes, doesn’t it? And we didn’t even get to smoke a cigarette afterward, we can’t AFFORD one.

You need to educate yourself to the real situation of millions of your fellow citizens. This was a concerted effort by those like this fucking bitch, who set out to destroy the middle class, and DID. And now they want to blame those who they ruined for BEING ruined. People like this BITCH are the cause, NOT the solution. She is heartless, selfish, and greedy beyond sanity. She should be taken to a mental hospital and helped out of her psychosis. Well this is what the Democratic Party Senate helped do. If they could have had enough party discipline to get to some of 400+ bills the House had passed, we wouldn’t be as deep in this quagmire as we are. Obama has been dealing from a position of weakness almost from the beginning and has found that appealing to the Republicans’ sense of decency and patriotism will not sway them. Now the base is revolting and I cannot say that it was unforseen. If Obama had acted as a President instead of acting like he was still a Senator, maybe things would be different.

Smart phones can be free with a $40 or $50/mo plans, but feeding a child can cost over $200/mo.. Friends or extended family might have gotten them that iPod as a gift, or it might even be *gasp* stolen.. And I guess you missed the stories in the news where kids were being killed for their shoes/clothes? And lets not forget illegal incomes from drugs and the like, are you suggesting the criminal kids should be buying food with their ill gotten gains? in our consumerist society where what you have sets your value as a living being?

Poverty is a very crazy beast.. but go ahead and keep pretending like the odd kid here or there that “has something”, even though 99% of the time they have to go without, should be your gauge for coming up with a rule instead of understanding the rare exceptions you happen to notice in the giant see of misery all around them.

Balancing the budget on the backs of the poor, eh? These parents have been beaten down their whole life by the predatory capitalistic system they have been raised under. They’ve paid a good percentage of their income in taxes, much of which goes to the military where it is wasted, given to rich lowlifes, etc.

So they’re getting a few scraps from the government, big deal. If we lived in a just country, they would have a decent job and healthcare and could afford the extra money every week for more food for their children.

It looks her jewelry would feed a few kids pretty well for quite a while.

Insurance, or Unemployment Insurance is also a criminal. She probably thinks that
outsourcing jobs to foreign countries where U.S. corporations can pay their workers a
fraction of what they pay here is very patriotic because it maximizes corporate profits–
never mind if it puts people out of work; the reason they are not working is because
they are LAZY, not because their jobs have been stolen from them. And if someone–
e.g. a quadraplegic–is on disability because he is paralyzed, the reason he is can’t

Typical republican with no humanity whatsoever. Remember that Twilight Zone episode where the guy who was a racist all of a sudden became that person of race. My wish is for all these hate mongering non humanitarian republicans to step in the shoes of those struggling in this country for one day and then make an ignorant comment like that. But most of them are sociopaths who are so self centered and it probably wouldn’t make a difference. I worked in a low income school for awhile and some children’s only food were those school meals because the parents were struggling to pay the rent and keep the lights on instead of being homeless. Most of these parents live pay check to pay check and run out of money a few days before payday. I used to loan a co worker $20 on Monday so she could buy milk, bread and peanut butter to feed her children. She had high house payments and married to a spending fool about 4 days before payday she was tapped out and couldn’t even afford to buy gas for her car. But when she got paid she always gave me back that $20. I told her one time to keep it as a gift but she refused because she was very proud. There are millions of people like my friend who live this existence in the US. Asshats like Kate O’Beirne have no clue nor compassion when they make statements like that.

Then there’s the billions of dollars we routinely give large corporations in the form of federal and state subsidies. We’re supposed to at least get good jobs back from this, but now the entire country is on a Detroit implosion vector. The lesson here ought to be that if you don’t like poor people then you always have the option to stop creating them by redistributing their collective wealth to the rich while you arrogantly pretend that you don’t like wealth redistribution. I’m sure you like it just fine as long as the narrow end of the funnel protrudes from your bank account.

Who cares if they are eating at school or at home as long as they eat.

I do realize that Ms. O’Beirne is targeting those in the free breakfast and lunch program. However, I don’t think taking a biscuit and piece of bacon away from an 8 year old will solve the country’s debt or “teach” children to work harder.

Her statements show how little forethought and true caring some in this country have for others.

“A Republican is someone who can only enjoy a meal if they know someone else is starving.” I used to think that statement was over the top, but it’s seems to be more and more true.

Tell me that Limbaugh bastard has at least been assaulted once for those words? Please. What is wrong with you all? Millions of you are losing your unemployment and now have nothing and rich bastards like that are grinding your noses in it. How long will you guys sit and watch this shit and not react? Youtube ‘Greece riots’ and see how other peoples react. Why are you all so silent? Blogging without action is complicity. The sort of non-silence I mean is done physically.

No that’s where people are going wrong. You imagine a situation for her and nothing happens. What these people need is to never eat again. You have to understand the US has raped and stolen the wealth from all over the world. They have run out of foreign victims so you are next. Welcome to US hegemony. This is why people all over the world have a problem (said nicely) with the USA.

The USA is not rich. Her and her ilk are rich. i would think if you are really from Detroit that you would know it by now.

Yes they do. They just don’t care. The US was the only country(at the UN) that refused to recognise that people had a right to food.

Nice turn of phrase to demonstrate that hunger and malnutrition are not a
function of the availability and nutrition of food, but an economic result
    of capitalism.

    Unfortunately:
    1. Doing as you suggest is a battery, and he’s protected by law.
    2. Sanctioning or censuring is prohibited by the Constitution.

Ultimately he’s saying what wealthy people want him to say, so they pay him
to say it … so they don’t have to.

How may times are you going to post anti-American comments on this article? We get it, the US government is the big bad guy. Newsflash, so are most “developed” nations. Get off your high horse and contribute something else to the discussion.
