As President Barack Obama was unveiling a new report on progress of the war in Afghanistan, a lineup of high-profile dissenters joined in an act of civil disobedience that ended with about 135 demonstrators being arrested outside the White House Thursday afternoon.

The number of arrestees came by way of an attorney for one of the defendants, who spoke to Raw Story. (Update: the official number of arrestees was 131.)

The military’s assessment (.pdf) of the war effort found that while US troops can begin withdrawing as scheduled in July, a military presence will continue until at least 2014.

At the same time the president was speaking, dozens of protesters, organized by Veterans for Peace, lined up along the White House fence in an act of civil disobenience. Many chained or tied themselves to the fence and chanted “End, end, end the occupation. Troops out now!”

Police spent several hours arresting demonstrators, taking photos of each one before placing them into vans.

Notable participants risking arrest included Daniel Ellsberg, who leaked the Pentagon Papers, retired 27-year CIA analyst Ray McGovern, FBI whistleblower Colleen Rowley, and Pulitzer-winning former New York Times war correspondent Chris Hedges.

Raw Story was able to confirm the arrests of Ellsberg, McGovern, Rowley and Hedges, along with Veterans for Peace members Elliott Adams, Mike Ferner, Mike Hearington and Leah Bolger.

Protesters began gathering Wednesday night at St. Stephen’s Church in Washington, DC. The rally began Thursday at 10 a.m. in Lafayette Park. Several speeches were given on the importance of civil resistance before demonstrators marched single-file to the White House.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll released Thursday showed a record 60 percent of Americans believe the Afghan war is not worth fighting.

60% sounds like a majority unless 40% are conservatives. It costs a lot of money to kill people and that alone should prompt us to get out but it won’t. England,Russia, and now the US, no matter how many boxes of lentil soup we put on the ground it didn’t accomplish anything but the death of too many. Haliburton’s rich ,rich enough to bail out Cheney,GW’s free,Rumsfeld is G-d knows where, and the dollar is in the tank. MERRY CHRISTMAS

The congress should investigate, if Bush had a special interest of the invasion of Afghanistan. Actually he did, to help his special frineds. He should be brought to justice. BUT I KNOW IT WON’T, YOU HAVE TO VBE A PATRIOT TO DO SO, AND CONGRESS DOES NOT HAVE ONE!

I wonder if it would be possible to march in front of the media organizations that refuse to report on events such as these, perhaps with a symbolic tape across mouths, a silent march such as the Mothers of May held for years carrying, for example signs of the three monkeys, with “Hear no Truth, See no Truth, Speak no Truth.”
This blackout of events is now so pronounced as to be censorship in a macabre disguise that would render us deaf, dumb and blind.

Correct. And Obama has increased some of the neocon madmen schemes, after all he campaigned for that, but Dumbya/Cheney did much more in their 8 years of tyranny. Obama will only get 4 years, of blunders and tyranny and then we’ll have some real lunatic like Palin to finish off America for good. Pretty sad.

The United States House of Representatives unanimously on Thursday approved a resolution opposing unilateral declaration of Palestinian state.

The resolution calls on the U.S. administration to “deny recognition to any unilaterally declared Palestinian state and veto any resolution by the United Nations Security Council to establish or recognize a Palestinian state outside of an agreement negotiated by the two parties.”

In the end, you’ll be considered a “subversive”, too, whether or not you man up and stand for what’s right.

You may think you’re staying out of the cross-hairs by wagging your finger at those who openly oppose the government. But the establishment will find reason to persecute you, too… unless the “subversives” win.

    That’s just how tyranny works.

Too bad there weren’t 135,000 or 1.35 million. I wish I had know about it or I would have tried to attend.

Ambassador Richard Holbrooke’s dying words were clear enough. The President and neocon Military Industrial Komplex, which are profiting off this war and the others they keep ginning up in Yemen and elsewhere, don’t care. No Osama bin Laden, no Taliban, it’s all just a colossal waste of life and money. And the vast majority of Americans, Afghans, Iraqis, etc., are not getting anything but shafted.

“You’ve got to stop this war in Afghanistan.” – Richard Holbrooke

It’s as clear and simple as death itself.

The basic problem is every politician is running scared the next released document might just expose the next bathroom footsie player, and it just might be them. So they’re attacking anything that remotely suggests civil disobedience of any kind.

It’ll take a major bag of popcorn to get through this matinee.

Obama’s report calls it “Progress”. If this is progress, how does Mr. Obama define FAILURE? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-naiman/afghanistan-review-shows_b_797729.html

The American people do not want this war. While hard working Americans are getting kicked out of their homes and living on the streets due to job losses and foreclosures, our Government is spending $120BIL a year for the war in Afghanistan.

Despite these huge costs, the situation on the ground is much worse than it was a year ago because the Taliban insurgency has made progress across the country. It is now very difficult to work outside the cities or even move around Afghanistan by road. The insurgents have built momentum, exploiting the shortcomings of the Afghan government and the mistakes of the coalition. The Taliban has become a national movement with a serious presence in the north and west. Foreign bases are completely isolated from their local environment and unable to protect the population. We’ve been in Afghanistan longer than the Soviet Red Army. Look at what that war did to the Soviets! How much more funny money will we print before we realize that we simply can not sustain this war? It is not economically feasible.

Our Soldiers are being medicated like never before: since 2001, 73,103 prescriptions for Zoloft have been dispensed, 38,199 for Prozac, 17,830 for Paxil and 12,047 for Cymbalta, according to Tricare 2009 data. All of the drugs carry a suicide warning label. In 2009 there were 160 active duty suicides, 239 suicides within the total Army including the Reserves, 146 active duty deaths from drug overdoses and high risk behavior and 1,713 suicide attempts. In addition to suicide, other out-of-character behavior like domestic violence is known to erupt from the drugs. http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=22267

We are sacrificing an entire generation for the benefit of the few who are in charge and have much to profit from all the destruction. War is not cheap. Take for example the much talked about drones: every Predator drone in use in Afghanistan costs taxpayers $4.5 million and a third of them crash. It costs $1,000,000 per soldier to support the war. Just think of all the jobs we could create with that money! Think of how robust our economy would be if we didn’t feed this death machine!

There is a strong anti war movement in our country right now. I think our Leaders should listen…

And a bunch of folks in dunce caps chained to the doors of FOX “News”. And smaller protests at affiliate stations over the following weeks, with the day’s real news as the protest talking points.

“It costs a lot of money to kill people.”

It was reported that some town in Indiana had to lay off 5 part-time school crossing guards because there was not enough money in the budget. So now their kids’ lives are at risk.

But the going rate to support a soldier in Afghanistanis is $1 million a year. No one seems to have any problem with that.

Yeah I know he was talking about Iraq. Bush Jr did divert all the military from Afghanistan to Iraq.

It would have looked ugly under Bush Jr’s watch if he actually did what he claims he was going to do which is fight a war in Afghanistan, but wink wink he didn’t really want to go after Osama Bins Laden because Osama is a Saudi and Saudis support terrorists and Junior supports terrorists too.

You again assume to much. One who does not know the systems of the enemy is bound to succumb to them.

    So say we all.

What system is it you accuse me of being bound to exactly this time? Reason? Logic? A quest for answers?

Guilt as charged do you worst Worm Your Honor.

What a bunch of retrograde hippies. Don’t they know whatever is good for the oil companies and defense industry and other giant corporate political donors is what’s good for the country? Without a war for the media to keep the public focused on nationalism and therefore submissive to large corporate interests, the public will start thinking of their own interests. The people might think their tax dollars would be better put to causes close to home, and Glenn Beck tells us that’s “socialism.” Therefore these complainers at the White-house are raising their voices to promote socialism.

Sad to say the U.S. has accomplished 90% of its objectives in Afghanistan and 100% of its Strategic objectives. The Only thing we are doing there now is trying to “save face” and show the world that we are not going to leave the Afghanis with an unstable government in a tattered and volatile region. Of course we are ,no matter what we say it looks like at the time. Whats more, that was probably the original plan.

Right, so poeple are dying, and being tortures and blown to bits so our nation, and by extension the last two administrations, can look like they have some compassion. When really, we A :Klobbered the taliban and bombed what was left of them even further back into the stone age, B: Killed off almost all of the 14 to 25 year old males who would mount a possible resugance of the Taliban. and C: Showed we would do retribution against those who aid our enemies. I.E. mess with us and we will mess with you ten times worse.
The only thing we might want a stable government in Afghanistan for is to help us build our pipeline but I’m sure we will get it anyway so, now, all the killing and dying there is just for show.

At least I’ll get to enjoy some of my life before I get sent off to prison. The subversives who are young wont get to do anything in life.

It’s really simple. If you were such a warrior why haven’t you formed a gang / mafia? Where is your income going to come from if you don’t have a cartel? Who is going to train you on how to kill, how to shoot guns, how to bomb? Are you willing to abandon your family today this instant, never see them again, adopt a dozen false identities?

That is what it takes to live as a subversive, you have to become a master criminal/con artist. It’s not worth it unless you are truly serious about revolution, and revolutionaries don’t get to have friends, don’t get to trust anyone, don’t get to fall in love like you see in movies, all of these things will get you killed quick.

I think most of you are just people who go online to talk and vent, but who would never shoot a gun, never join a gang, never break a law. You probably say what you say under your real identity, so the feds already know what you think so your cover is already blown.

Face it, you are powerless. The local thug across the street has more power than you. If you want to change that then you’ll have to start by going off the grid and creating a completely new identity. Use your connections to get a fake passport and fake identity, if you don’t have connections to do even the most basic, you aren’t going to be an effective subversive and you’ll just end up getting killed.

Revolutions aren’t led from the bottom, they are lead from the top. Until the establishment decides it’s time for a revolution then you’ll just have a bunch of subversives who will be locked up and killed off.

If these subversives had any power we’d see some positive effects from their actions. The fact that we don’t means they are loud and powerless. Siding with them will just speed up your demise unless there is a truly organized resistance and in that case it wouldn’t be people online, it wouldn’t be hackers, it would be people with the power to kill, willing to die, and highly educated, rich, etc. Essentially it would be the intelligence operatives trained to lead revolutions, and the rich benefactors.

I’m not an intelligence operative. I’m not a revolutionary. I’ve never shot a gun, I don’t know how to make IED’s, I would just get killed. So would the majority of you. Let the professional mercenaries and soldiers handle it and stay out of it.

Typically speaking it does not make sense to be a subversive as an American citizen because you already have an ID card, a license, social security number, phone number and all that. They already know everything about you so you can never be an effective subversive.

The effective subversives will be Mexican gangsters, foreigners who come with false identities, who don’t have friends, who don’t have lives to leave behind, who spend years training in camps for subversives where they learned what they need to know. Professional subversives are not kids coming from their safe suburban neighborhoods who think in their 20s they want to take on the government who had 20+ years to gather information about them, who knows where they live, what they look like, what their name is, has their DNA and finger print and can track them on satellite and through all technical means.

I hope you understand that if Americans can’t do something basic like start mafias and gangs without being locked up in prison, what makes you think they can fight a revolution under that kind of law enforcement scrutiny, and under that kind of counter intelligence? Look at a prison and you see all the subversives who thought they could fight back and stand up for themselves, they are the casualties of the revolution, and the ones who aren’t in prison are dead.

I guess because most of them are poor and black or brown, nobody recognizes the history of the whole situation. When white teenagers start trying to be subversives they’ll find themselves facing the same shit and of course they wont know how to deal with it.

Actually they don’t even bother much to use war for propaganda purpose anymore, after 8 years it starts to lose it’s effect.
They’ve learned that we have evolved to the point that they can execute wars and if their bought and owned media doesn’t report on it, it doesn’t exist in the minds of the public.

    No TV or newspaper coverage?
    Problem solved.

You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. This isn’t the wild west or “Escape from New York”. This is real life.

Did you look at those so-called “subversives” in the article, those guys who were arrested? They’re just people– some ex-military to be sure, but also students, writers, etc. And all they did was wave some signs and chained themselves to a fence! I don’t see anyone taking up arms and throwing molotov cocktails while the jackboots gun them down in the streets. It hasn’t come to that, fortunately.

But you see, that’s not what this is about. This is about the Them telling me what I can or can’t download online, or infiltrating my book club, or fondling my nuts when I get on a plane, or watching what I buy with my credit cards. And if I speak up and say I don’t like that, it makes me a “subversive” in their eyes– all without torching a single police car!

Ever read “1984″? That is a novel about subversion, in a world where just having an independent thought and a little privacy is deemed treasonous. There is hardly any violence in the story. No teargas, no riots, no secret meetings of tough-as-nails resistance fighters. Just the crushing oppression of being watched and manipulated every hour of every day, year after year after year. Eventually, Big Brother finally decides that the “subversive” has gone far enough– he kept a a diary, had a love affair, he bought a trinket, after all!– and he is whisked away to be tortured and ‘corrected’. Doesn’t that sound uncomfortably familiar? And doesn’t it frighten you at all?

No, I am not a thug, I don’t run a gang, and I don’t live in the shadows. The best I can do is shout and try to convince the mouth-breathers around me that we’re slipping into dangerous times. Yup, I could be disappeared or shot at any time, but frankly, I still trust my society enough that I don’t fear that sort of thing. Yet.

So yes, I admit that I am largely powerless. But together, We are not powerless, and They know it. That’s why They stoke the fear, play up the nationalism, and keep up us generally fat and happy– because They know something that We have largely forgotten:

United we stand, or divided we fall.

OK… I think I finally see what you’re getting at here. And to some extent, I might agree. Your point, if I understand correctly, is roughly this: Given all the supposed anger, why isn’t there a real resistance movement? And your answer, roughly, is: Because Americans are soft.

A revolution as you seem to envision it depends upon people willing to sacrifice, or who have nothing to lose, or are trained in the ways of violence. Maybe that’s true, I can’t say. All I know is that America obviously hasn’t fallen to into the sort of desperation to stoke those kinds of fires. Maybe it never will. But if and when it does, I suspect all those fat rednecks, uptight suburbanites and squirrelly urban hipsters would figure it out really quick.

But seriously, talk of that sort really is more than a little premature; as long as people are only chaining themselves to fences, blogging from their iPads, yelling at town meetings, picketing business, and and other such mundanities, I’m pretty sure the country still has room to correct things before stuff blows up.

As for why there isn’t are true movement, I think the only real “failure” in that regard at this point is rooted in two things:

First, Americans are optimists at heart, and therefore largely in denial that things are as bad as they are. We’re too enamored of our system to truly threaten it– or to believe that others (especially our leaders) would threaten it.

Second is a simple lack of leadership. There are no obvious opposition leaders among the political or media class, which I imagine is where such a person would come from. Maybe some rising-star nobody could surprise everyone and come out of nowhere, but that’s unlikely, imho.

But if and when push comes to shove, either the “resistance” will get their act together or it won’t. And history will record that story through the eyes of the victors. So be it.

Anyway, I’m finished blowing smoke out my ass on this topic. Good night, and good luck.

Funny…I thought it was OUR White House, OUR Senate, OUR House….and that we had the right to address government and peaceful protest….WHAT country is this….? The American DREAM is just that, a dream that is only possible when you are sleeping…what freedoms…? that “they hate us for”…President Bush…? President Obama…? the freedom to be wealthy enough, to burn peasants to keep your fat, rich, “white” asses comfortable….?

Maybe now people can understand why the few conscious Americans dont protest often.
I realize that getting arrested is apart of protesting but being harassed by govt/police is no joke.
The only time I ever protest again, is if a majority of this nation is protesting right along with me.
They cant arrest a million people at the same time. Only through very large numbers can protestors be somewhat protected and given some kind of media coverage.

Why would they show this on the new$?
To show Americans that there are reasons why accredited former govt officials/professionals are against these wars too? Yet mainstream media dont mind continious stories on WikiLeaks cables. If there was any doubt before, this is pretty much proof that there is selective censorship in the media.
So the question is, why arent they censoring the ‘biggest leak’ since the Pentagon Papers?
Oh and I love how Daniel Ellsberg pops up out of no where all of a sudden.

hey , all the times I’ve been arrested at protests its been with my people. remember, for every one that gets arrested there are a thousand at home who don’t feel they can’t risk it. Always go with a group and with a friend. Right now it doesn’t feel like its doing anything but slow steady pressure is certainly worthwhile.

I think the dunce caps would be a good idea but have doubts about being costumed as monkeys. People would think it is like a play rather than a demonstration, but big signs with enlarged pictures of the monkeys would convey the idea.

They cant arrest a million people at the same time.

This is how they will do it. No arrests,no due process, just indefinite detention. This time they won’t use trains, they have large tractor trailers ready to roll, and plenty of brain washed soldiers who have been fed garbage about how they don’t get the support they deserve. They planted the seed, by polling active military on, could they shoot civilians.

They will use the Patriot Act to detain you without charge, and the military, to move you to the detention camps they have been building.

You know how this will end, right?

We will have spent a trillion-plus dollars on nation-building, which isn’t actually nation-building according to all official US reports, and we will have gained absolutely nothing. We will be forced to withdrawal after not having any sort of mission accomplished. The Taliban will have kept their safe haven and the US will never be able to service its war debt.

Then, the Chinese will come in with billions, develop Afghanistan’s sprawling and quite undeveloped lithium resources, and become the masters of the new electric car industry.

  • Anonymous

Nothing will happen until there are hundreds of thousands in the streets. Fact is, the ‘Mission Accomplished’ banner was absolutely correct. The mission was to get us over there, build some bases, and move the equipment over. Once the U.S. Military got in, it had no intention of ever getting out. They will keep stringing the people along, like a carrot in front of a donkey; always almost ready to leave, never quite leaving.

There have been hundreds of thousands in the streets, many many times. Like this demonstration, there was virtually no coverage in the corporate-government press. The vast majority opposed these wars before they began and the entire time they have continued. Marching in the streets makes us all feel better, but does virtually nothing to stop the wars. The marches need to lead somewhere, other than just to jail. How about surrounding the Pentagon, or Fox News?

No. Effective subversives fight in such a way as to bring about the downfall of the oppressors. They don’t actually have to win; they just have be a sufficient catalyst to empower enough ordinary folks to rise up and force out the bad guys. Such a “war” may or may not utilize violence.

Look out your window. You’ll note that there is no urban warfare happening. Instead, current opposition is largely limited to the media and political spheres: opinion pieces, online commentary, mostly small-scale protests, and a smattering of cyber-vandalism.

You have no idea whether or not America has effective subversives because the fight has hardly begun. Indeed, it may never begin; and that may well be that you’re right. But at this point, no one can honestly know.

Right, we fought in Germany, Japan, and Korea, and we still have troops there 60 plus years later. While in the military I visited all three. Germany for war games for 2 months, I got to see the Berlin Wall before it fell. In South Korea for a year, and got to see the 38th Parallel, north of Seoul, and Japan to buy stereo equipment. Looking back, I must have been a glutton for punishment. Yes, the Military Industrial complex is colonial by its very nature.

what are they being arrested for?

  • Anonymous

Thanks to all those that participated. Why they were arrested I’ll never know. We need to replicate this across the entire country.

  • Anonymous

    Yep.

  • Anonymous

uhh no rich people have declared war. they did that about 100 years ago when corporations won “personhood”

this is not a declaration of war. this is a “final battle movement” ie we are at the END of the war and we are NOT winning.

  • Anonymous

yes. we changed who is spending out money and where they spend it. Thats about the extent of the “change”

  • Anonymous

those kind of actions only work when they are done in SUCH MASSIVE NUMBERS that there is nothing they can do about it. Alas we lack even remotely close to that kind of commitment and organization and they work very hard to make sure we DON’T get that kind of organization.

  • Anonymous

hundreds of thousands is nothing. meaningless. to get any real change we need a quantity large enough that can not be ignored. that can not be arrested. than can not be “charged”

3% would be a good start might get some attention 10% would guarantee it. (of the entire population)

  • Anonymous

That is entirely possible however I try not to live in fear because that is what they really want.

I did hear about one case where what you said happened to anti war protestors in NY. Protestors were unlawfully detained at Pier 57.

“Guantanamo on the Hudson was a term coined during the Republican National Convention by a lawyer who, amongst 1000 other people, was detained in a facility by the New York City Police, in such conditions that he said that the city had created its “own little Guantanamo on the Hudson”

current in incarcerated population is 1% to get any sort of attention we need to make it impossible to put us “into the system” that means a large enough number that no amount of trains or tractor trailers or “detentions” centers can hold people.

people need to be willing to die. so when they try to detain us we can say NO your option is to submit to us or shoot us.

if we can do that. If we can muster enough people to do this change will happen and it will SNOWBALL.

but I figure the MINIMUM number to make this work and only if its concentrated in a few states is 2%. ie 7 million people.

There is NOTHING they can do to “oppose” the will of 7 million people. The only way they can combat that is the very way they have already.

Dumb down the population. De Educate them. Make them sheeple. Make them into a nation unwilling to lay down their lives for their cause.

Because that IS what its going to take. You have to be willing to say NO we will not go quitely into the night. WE WILL resist and you will have to shoot us to stop us because we outnumber you 1000 to 1 (law enforcement military)

We have to remove ALL CHOICES from the table save 2. Capitulation of mass murder and even they would realize mass murder is instant death for them since the rest of the country and the MSM could not ignore that. it would snowball.

The fact that they only got arrested seems like progress. Over at Kent State, they just shot people dead. By the way…nobody has ever been arrested or prosecuted for the murders of those kids at Kent and that happened back on May 4th, 1970.

We have big piles of dirt under our American rugs!

Duh! They chained themselves to the White House fence. No one’s allowed to chain themselves to the White House fence. Everyone knows it, and the ones being arrested were basically asking to be arrested in an act of civil disobedience. That’s how it works.

What makes him an “Uncle Tom”? He’s the freakin’ President of the United States, NOT the President of all the African Americans. He can’t be focused on race as some within the African American community seem to want because that’s not what he’s there for. This is offensive, really it is.

  • Anonymous

Lies? What lies? He never lied once about Afghanistan during his whole campaign. He gave many speeches talking about how Afghanistan SHOULD have been our focus from the start while Iraq was a completely unnecessary boondoggle and we should leave – which is exactly what we’re doing. I really hate seeing stupid references to lies which never were spoken because the ones making the accusations never listened to what he actually said and are now too lazy to check out their assertions before posting them.

We’re not leaving Iraq, ever – with the world’s largest US base just installed. Say what you want about troop levels. I take that back – when the last drop of oil is gone, we’ll abandon the place and leave what’s left of the population to deal with the depleted uranium poisoning and ecological disaster left behind.
As far as promises – err, what about that closing of Guantanamo?, the end of torture?, the return of habeas corpus?, that health care exchange with a public option?, that annual report on the state of our energy future…? there are more
The system took any real intent of “change” he had (if that ever existed).. and mangled it to elite advantage or killed it altogether. It’s what our system does.
Nader called it right that Obama doesn’t have a history as a fighter for the people, but as a compromiser to power.

Here are a few links to some, shall we say, “broken promises”,(i think it sounds nicer than “lies”), by Obama. Granted, if we are keeping track by quantity, Obama does quite well comparatively. However, when we look at quality, Obama has broken his “campaign promises” that were most important to us, “we the people”.

„Als die Nazis die Kommunisten holten, habe ich geschwiegen; ich war ja kein Kommunist.
Als sie die Sozialdemokraten einsperrten, habe ich geschwiegen; ich war ja kein Sozialdemokrat.
Als sie die Gewerkschafter holten, habe ich nicht protestiert; ich war ja kein Gewerkschafter.
Als sie mich holten, gab es keinen mehr, der protestieren konnte.“

This administration has some ‘splainin’ to do as regards transparency (remember THAT??) and civil liberties, to name but two. You know, if you go on a date with the school, well, “W”, you can pretty much expect to be abused and mistreated, but when you go out with the school “Barry”, you ought to be able to expect to be charmed and, perhaps, even enlightened and finally treated with some respect. Well, looks like you two “boys” have quite a few ancestors in common.

I won’t go on. I suspect that it’s really just so much “pearls before swine” – no offense. ;-)

There are, however, two quotes that keep presenting themselves:

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and everything unclean.” (Matthew 23:27)
    and
“I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever.”

We actually have to have compassion for those who are so blind they cannot see. That is how they live with themselves. They are morally and ethically blind. Weak in their inner core, needing approval from authority figures, narrow minded in that they cannot see the big picture and narcissistic because they don’t want to. Feeling of entitlement, feeling of class superiority, feeling the adrenaline surge of intoxicating power over human lives distancing themselves from reality. They fear us because they know we can look into their souls and see who they really are. Their eyes are dead, their smiles contrived, their movements automatic like a machine. Have pity for them. They have lost their humanity. You still have yours.

I met Ray McGovern at an anti-war rally in St. Petersburg, FL several years ago. Brilliant man, phenomenal speaker.

It will be shown that the real travesty of American history is that on Dec 16, 2010, Mr. McGovern was led away and arrested by police outside the White House while people like Bush & Cheney, who sat in that very White House, who lied to Congress and the American people to validate these wars, would never see the inside of a jail cell for their very real crimes that have cost almost 5,000 American lives.

Anyone who believes this president is not manipulated by the military industrial complex is foolishly mistaken. These protests by those patriots are the wind in Obama’s sail to be used to end the US military incursion in Afganistan. By the way, the greatest military in history and it’s been how many years and how many billions and we are still trying to locate bin Laden. Somebody please tell me is the guy really that illusive or is something else going on?

Obama is no better than Bush, maybe worse. Bush might have been mislead by those who advised him…like members on his staff who were also members of the Project for a New America group..who have been intent on invading Iraq long before 9/11. BUT, Obama’s staff knows better..even if Obama doesn’t. They know that the wars are not winnable…and those in the US Military who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan have died in vain.
