Tea party group: Homeland Security ‘a liberal hate group’

The United States Department of Homeland Security is one of the top five liberal hate groups of 2010, according to Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips.

Phillips said the federal department, which was created in response to the September 11 attacks by former President George W. Bush, is a “bad joke.”

“DHS will not enforce border security,” Phillips wrote on the Tea Party Nation website. “It makes Americans go through a joke of a security system when they want to fly. It invades their privacy while not going after terrorists.”

“And then of course, there is the infamous report where DHS ignored pressing issues like illegal immigration and Islamic terror to put out a report warning about terror from ‘right wing extremists,’” he continued. “The DHS Clown in Chief, Janet Napolitano borrowed a page from the Clinton administration to try and demonize conservatives with this idiotic report.”

The Office of Intelligence and Analysis released a report in April of 2009 that stated there was “no specific information that domestic rightwing terrorists are currently planning acts of violence,” but warned law enforcement agencies that the economic recession, coupled with the recent election of the first African-American President of the United States, was driving white supremacists’ and violent anti-government groups’ recruitment.

Conservatives such as blogger Michelle Malkin and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich slammed the report, saying it proved an anti-conservative bias in the Obama administration.

The Office of Intelligence and Analysis released a similar report on leftwing extremism in January of 2009, which warned that cyber attacks on economic targets and critical infrastructure was an attractive option to leftwing radicals.

Phillips also noted that Tea Party activists were monitored by Pennsylvania’s Office of Homeland Security for terror threats.

In September, it was revealed that an intelligence company hired by the state’s Homeland Security office monitored members of the Tea Party, Students for a Democratic Society, anti-drilling groups, anti-war activists, and other political groups.

“And for that, the Department of Homeland Security is our number two liberal hate group,” Phillips said.

He labeled the Southern Poverty Law Center as the number one “liberal hate group,” with the American Civil Liberties Union coming in third place. The Service Employees International Union took fourth place and the National Organization for the Advancement of Colored People came in fifth.

Phillips came under fire in November after saying that it “makes a lot of sense” to deny voting rights to US citizens who do not own land.

I can’t say I agree with them on the homegrown terrorism front…white power activists and militia groups are and have been a major concern for decades now…and they’ve handled with kid gloves the entire time. On the rare occasion that they aren’t handled gently, the screams from the right are hilarious as they lose their sh*t and scream for the fair treatment of bank robbing, murderous arsonists…then turn around and champion the torture of Afghans and Iraqis based on hearsay.

But they’re right about one thing…DHS is a joke…its used as a weapon of intimidation against normal Americans…and its power should be severely curtailed…along with most of the Patriot Act. I just wish these sorry bastards had been on the bandwagon with me a decade ago instead of calling real patriots ‘terrorist sympathizers’ for not supporting Bush and the general rape of American civil liberties. I suppose coming late to the game is better than never showing up at all, but I could ask for allies that weren’t hamstrung by near crippling stupidity.

It is clear to me that you’d need to be nuts to consider DHS a liberal group. I’m no DHS fan, but it’s also clear to me that ultraconservative hate groups are more of a threat to the USA than any foreign terrorist.

The Tea-Gaggers are really the antithesis of the old hippie movement. They are fighting governemnt agencies but for the wrong reasons. They don’t know what the fuck they are doing. At least the hippies found out the hard way what the FBI and the CIA really do. These fuckers apparently think that those agencies only bother leftists. Wrong now and wrong later.

the rightwing noise machine twisted logic and disinformation at its zenith…… according to them, bushy was the best pres. since raygun, and never did anything wrong…. the world of hurt we are now in is due directly to raygun, bush I, and bush II, with a little help from clinton…. bushy, rummy gonzales, rice, and especially cheney are war criminals and should stand before the man. … but like all oligarchs, they will get away with murder………

The DHS a liberal hate group? Nonsense!

    The DHS clearly hates everyone.

  • David R Velasquez

Judson Phillips IS a racist, so of course he thinks the SPLC is a hate group.

As for Malkin and Gingrich’s accusation of the DHS report being ‘anti conservative’ for its warning against the rise of racist hate groups… they virtually made conservatism synonymous with racism.
    Well done, Newt.

  • Anonymous

Of course they think so … and the reason is more revealing than the conclusion is amusing and scaring at the same time.

At least I think their reasoning is something along the lines of if your liberal, then your hatefull. And if you don’t agree with them, your liberal. So when DHS and their TSA scan their private parts at the airport – they must be a liberal hate group.

And similar reasoning when DHS monitors them – disregarding the fact that they monitors everyone and their mother-in-law. The same goes when they don’t react ‘correctly’ to the probably incoherent reports and tips from right wing groups – “they ignore us, so they don’t want to protect USA, which means they are liberal, which makes them a hate group.”

At least is casts doubht over the news message the other day that claimed conservative aren’t creative. Sometimes they are really creative, seeing connections that are simply not there.

“DHS will not enforce border security,” Phillips wrote on the Tea Party Nation website. “It makes Americans go through a joke of a security system when they want to fly. It invades their privacy while not going after terrorists.”

Does this mean teabaggers want Tea Party Republicans to dismantle the “liberal” Homeland Security and replace it with a teabagger run Homeland Security? Maybe they will repeal it when the new House and Senate convenes in January.

I wonder how how teabaggers account for Democrats and Republicans voting for Homeland Security after September 11. And President Bush didn’t give them a chance to read it!

Stupid me! Those Republicans were Democrats pretending to be Republicans!

  • Anonymous

Boy, when you cite Michelle Malkin and Newt Gingrich as your authority, your head is so far up there, it may never see the light of day again.

  • mjcc1987

I think the only hate group is the baggers who are the “cleaned up” KKK. Well, barely cleaned up.

  • Anonymous

No one has to demonize the right wing as they do a fine job of it all by themselves! It’s funny when bush was eroding our rights and freedoms there was nary a word from these people. Instead they thought it was best to blame it on Obama! Even if they were suddenly infused with reality they would minimize bush’s influence! I suppose they are linking the liberal media in with all the liberal hate groups? We already know the right wing has a larger “fear factor” in their brains and many are born without the empathy gene, but does that mean they are just plain dumber too? Philips must think if they aren’t right wing nuts they must be part of a hate group.

  • GunTotingLib

Lets see here the cons say the top 5 liberal hate groups are:

    1) “A nonprofit civil rights organization dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry, and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of society”

    2) An agency of the federal government entrusted with protecting the people of American and keeping our nation safe from terrorist attacks.

    3) An Organization who’s stated mission is to be the “nation’s guardian of liberty, working daily in courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the Constitution and laws of the United States guarantee EVERYONE in this country.”

    4) An organization of 2.2 million Working American “members united by the belief in the dignity and worth of workers and the services they provide and dedicated to improving the lives of workers and their families and creating a more just and humane society”

    5) A group standing for a people who were once enslaved in this nation and who’s stated mission is to “ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination”.

Today I am sure why I am a liberal.

These five “groups” are on the front line of defending the freedom , liberty and civil rights of all Americans, lib and con, from the hate, violence, discrimination and over reach of our government. You may not agree with them 100% of the time, I don’t, but hate groups ?Get real!

Next to9/11 they already killed more Americans on American soil than anyone elese. Look at Oklahoma City bombing of the Murah Fed building with a little kids daycare inside. Look at the nuts who encourage murders of doctors IN CHURCH. Anthrax anyone?

The Tea Party is exposed for the nuts they are as Mr. Phillps and the likes of Joe Miller, Witch Christan O’Donnell, Sarah gave me money Palin and Dr. Aqua Buddha Randy Dandy Paul. Yes this is a circus of clowds and more will come before the Media says go watch Saturday Night Live. The Republicans have shown what they think of the Tea Nuts as they used them for votes and duped them a second after the election. What was funny is a Tea Party winner duped the Party at his celebration speech. A former soldier who committed torture and got a pass was elected and now he’s spilling insanity around Florida. The best is Governor elect from Florida is not only a closet gay, nuts, insane, working with the drug Mob but he’s a convicted felon as he admitted fraud in health care. Great representatives of the Tea Nuts.

TeaBaggers: you cannot claim that the DHS and TSA are 4th amendment violations when you used the 4th amendment as toilet paper all thru Bush’s presidency…

  • Anonymous

Nope, they’re two different things. One is a kind of government (none) and one involves social/legal standing. Elitists are people who think they’re entitled to special treatment for no real reason (like their race, religion, money, heritage, etc). Anarchists want to tear down the establishment and end government rule. For example those clowns who want to start a race war and destroy the US government are anarchist/elitists.

Not that all teabaggers want to start a race war, but most act like they belong on the top of the social structure because they’re white, christian, and/or conservative.

Oh how confused you are, poor sir.

You are confusing states-rights Libertarians with Anarchists. The “clowns that want to start a race war and destroy the US government” in fact want a very limited form of government and as such are Libertarians. They are Capitalists, and as such do not want anything to get in the way of the free market. Certainly, they do not support Unions.

The one thing that Anarchists and Libertarians share is that they believe that individual rights are of the utmost importance. However the similarities end there.

Anarchists do not agree with the social contract, which states that people give up rights to have Government provide safety. They are decidedly NOT capitalists and support unions. They view government as a means of commerce, and a coercive one at that. Tell me, if it weren’t for the US government during the Guilded Age and the hay-day of Unions, who would have been there to stop the Unions from taking power and control of production and giving it to the worker? The answer is NO ONE. Do you think the Pinkerton guards alone could have taken on the masses of people who were workers and supported Unions? I don’t think so! It took the Army (who came panting to the aid of large and damaging corporations like Standard Oil or Bethlehem Steel) to take down Unions!

You might say that since then that the Government has implemented controls over corporations and is our last line of defense against corporate domination of society. You would be wrong, not to mention naive, for the aid that Government gives to corporations far outweighs the aid given to the average citizen. There is no contest; Government is clearly dominated by corporations, and as such they dominate us. Government has always been, and always will be the tool of corporations. This is inevitable for every type of government. Sad, but true.

Again, edumacate yourself before you say something stupid.

You got that right. I had an argument at another site today with one of ‘em nuts who was screaming over the FCC censorship of the Internet. I know the individual and know what a rabid reich winger he is. I also know that loss of liberties is no concern of them, on the contrary, they want whatever little we’ve got left taken away. So, I started to prod him and lo and behold, he tells me that the FCC guy (whatever his name is) should be lynched for what he’s done. And, immediately, it clicked that the connection is that the dude is an Obama appointee. And that’s all there is to it. Well, I called him on it on the forum and haven’t heard anything else. But you can’t ever be too sure with those whackjobs. He’s liable to come back with something totally off the wall like Obama wants to send all Repubicans to labor camps in Siberia for using the Internet.

Hardly. Libertardians are rich anarchists. When they’re in charge you only have the rights you can afford you have, rule of law be damned. Our individual rights aren’t important. THEIR individual rights are important. So important they will risk the lives of others for their convenience or preserve their status and wealth. Libertardians are pro-corporations and if what you say is true, they should be anti-corp more than anti-government since they are a much greater threat to our rights. Do you think Libertardians care about others? Do you think they’re for environmental controls to keep their pollution from destroying others? If you think so, not only are you wrong but hopelessly naive.

You make it sound that workers actually controlling their lives are a bad thing. If it weren’t for unions we would not have weekends or PTO or health insurance or retirement or workman’s comp. Companies see their employees as nothing more than cogs to be used, abused, then discarded when they break. People are nothing more than a means to an end. Hard work won’t make you rich, it makes THEM rich. Anything goes for the sake of their desires and it doesn’t matter who gets hurt. Consider the idea of shareholders. They pressure companies to make more money as if that’s their only obligation. But when companies have to cut back on safety and maintenance to meet the shareholders’ demands, who’s gets all the responsibility when things go wrong? Not the shareholders who jumped ship the second it became unprofitable and you can bet they won’t consider themselves responsible for the people their greed killed.

“The Office of Intelligence and Analysis”

I think that qualifies, as a “compound oxymoron”.

Bushes, Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2004, spawned it.

We are, and will be suffering, for a long time, the legacy of impotence, in the face of despotism.

Polarization – the practice of categorizing individuals into apparent strongly opposing groups, ie. right/left, liberal/conservative, Democrats/Republicans, white/black, etc, etc – is a longstanding method of avoiding the underlying fundamental commonality of all individuals. All humans, whether or not they realize it, are doing what each has decided *at the time* is the likeliest to maximize his/her (hir) lifetime happiness – those actions which an individual estimates have the best chance of most increasing the sum over hir lifetime of all the happiness instances that s/he experiences. The biggest problems in human interactions come because so many individuals have not understood this very basic fact and also that no one knows what is in an individual’s best interest except that individual, and possibly hir very closest of friends.

So when I read articles like this one, hurling invectives of “left wing”, “right wing”, “conservative”, “liberal”, “hate group”, etc, I conclude that those using them as such are letting themselves be used – or are using others themselves – to continue polarization of residents (in this case of the US). This is generally a government tactic – divide and conquer – and has served the rulers well for centuries. But in this time of widespread almost instant communication, it is method that can be fairly easily dismissed and shrugged off – if only people begin to realize it for what it is: an attempt to obstruct the thinking of individuals as individuals. I urge others to stop such tendencies in themselves and question the practice by others.

    [Begin rant]

The teabaggers are a right-wing hate group–foot soldiers of the republican party who are the foot soldiers of the plutocrats. These self-proclaimed “real” Americans don’t seem to have a clue about the history of our nation. Ask any one of them about the Shay’s Rebellion, the Articles of Confederation and what those two had to do with the creation of the US Constitution and all you’ll hear are crickets chirping. These a-holes constantly talk about the Constitution as though it is religious doctrine to be strictly adhered to and yet at the same time seek the destruction of our govt–the very govt that our Constitution created and established in the first place. And they consider themselves to be the only “real” Americans, but progressives and liberals are not? Bullshit!

We didn’t hear one g-damned word from them during the bush years–not over bush lying us into war, torture, the crash of the economy, the Patriot Act, the creation of the Homeland Security Dept, the endless spending that led to the huge deficit we now face and on and on–nothing. But now all of a sudden they’re concerned? Bullshit! They’re a bunch of liars. They know g-damned well that the DHS was created by a right-wing conservative administration. But like the lying little repukes that they are, they turn around and point the finger of blame at “liberals” for what their party has done. The teabagger movement has no credibility. They’re nothing but a bunch of frauds–an astroturf creation of corporate billionaires with an agenda that seeks to undermine our govt and the peoples’ authority over it.

The best I can say about the teabaggers is that they are just easily manipulated tools–a bunch of ignorant, hate-filled, bigoted, racist, right-wing religious extremist stooges. They remind me of the 1930s “good Germans” who aided and abetted in the rise of hitler and the nazis. “Real” Americans? HA!! Fuck them!

    [End rant]

Ahhhhh….much better now. Venting is a therapeutic remedy–albeit temporary–to all the insanity we are constantly subjected to on a daily basis.

Well, I happen to agree that Homeland Security is a bad joke. However, it is also quite obviously a fully bipartisan bad joke — a highly expensive, Constitutionally violating, wrongly invasive and intrusive one at that.
But of course we should expect the Baggers to foam at the mouth and bellow “liberal hate group!” whenever they’re angry at something. After all, they’re for the most part nothing but angry — because they are comprised of total morons.
Seriously, I suspect that the collective brain power of the entire Bagger Brigade might be bright enough to light a small appliance bulb. Maybe.

Libertarians are not Anarchists! I agree when you say that Libertarians do not care about others. I agree when you say that Libertarians are pro-corporation. I agree when you say that Libertarians do not support environmental controls. But I disagree when you call them Anarchists because Anarchists are none of those things.

The way Libertarians would like things to be, Government would be so minimal that corporations would be absolutely free to do whatever they pleased. Yet from our very own history, we can see that a government as such will eventually become more powerful — in order to support corporations and regulate commerce — and suppress Unions.

On the other hand, without Government to suppress organized labor, corporations would NOT be able to do whatever they want — organized labor would hold them back. Organized labor was WINNING in the late 1800′s (the large Anarchist/Socialist/Communist movement that was tied in to the labor movement can attest to that) — but the Government stepped in. Anarchists realize that Government more than anything is an ally to big business, and that is why they are decidedly not at all like Libertarians.

“You make it sound that workers actually controlling their lives are a bad thing. If it weren’t for unions we would not have weekends or PTO or health insurance or retirement or workman’s comp.”

I don’t know where within my arguments that I make it sound like workers controlling their lives is a bad thing. I fully understand that if it weren’t for organized labor becoming the voice of the worker, that we would have 16 hour days, and no sick time, and no retirement or workman’s comp — but I also understand that if it weren’t for Government suppression of Unions, that we would have a whole lot more. I liken the current labor regulations and laws in our country to the concessions that England and France made to Nazi Germany. They are mere appeasements — to keep the worker satiated just enough as to not organize.

The Republican party as it has been transformed today is the single greatest existential threat to the United States of America, internal or external. In its greed for power and control, they have created a big tent that is non-discerning and invites in and encourages any type of lunatic fringe – the haters, the racists, religious extremists, the corporatists, and oligarchs, all in a mix of rancid ideological stew that is poisoning the country. Their professional pundits are intellectually dishonest in their arguments, their personal media with its misinformation is a purveyor of propaganda rather than news, and their politicians are master craftsman of the reprehensible and irresponsible. They embody an embarrassment to humanity and a stain on the United States of America. This gang and its policies has changed the way the United States is regarded in the world, exemplified by the clear flight from the U.S Dollar as the world reserve currency, to being the demon core of worldwide economic collapse, and a nation that cannot be trusted and must more often than not intimidate or bribe its wary ‘allies’ into cooperation after having mislead them into a war based on lies and ideology.

Under this tent of misfits and self-evolved freaks, the Neocons and their advancement of the ‘Next American Century’ were allowed to unnecessarily advance the decline of the United States by fifty years. All of this without any accountability – this being a historic failing of the Democratic party. In a breathtaking miscue we impetuously played our Middle East card on Iraq, leaving ourselves with only poor options with Iran and its nuclear program, an incomparable threat. We have so far only seen a ripple in the water in what shall eventually become the giant wake of outcomes engendered by the Bush Administration and the GOP during 2000 – 2008, and the more recent GOP filibustering senate.

Please don’t let the following inflammatory statement have you consider the prior with any less regard, but it is only correct to close with: Mitch McConnell is a pale bloated bag of protoplasm and John Boehner a likely sociopath, who would be crying as he leads his colleagues in an annual frenzy of clubbing of baby seals (or not crying when handing out tobacco industry campaign contributions to GOP colleagues on the floor of the House of Representatives.)

Well Johnny I can’t say I was raised that way. I grew up in a military family. My parents raised us that we were no better or worse than anyone else. My dad always said that there were minorities fighting on the battles fields all over the world for all of us to be free and they earned the respect of all of us. My parents had all kinds of friends come over to our house and we played with all kind of children and some I still remember with great pleasure. I couldn’t have had a better life meeting a variety of people. By the way I found out they were no different from me and they want the same things for their families. People need to grow up. I remember living with my husband at Ft Bragg in North Carolina. I had a black family on one side and a hispanic family on the other side and across the street a white family. In the summer they all clean their cars and you walk outside you hear all kinds of music. It is so funny. Of course all to loud because we want to take a nap. We were the oldest couple. But it is so interesting to see people. I loved every moment of it. We often get together and have BBQs.

The republicans don’t mind racists, murderers, liars, adulterers, drug users and abusers! They welcome all of gods sinners and the more sins one is guilty of the better! The one thing all republicans can agree on is they all hate liberals of any size, color or sin! Or even suspected liberals! The gop the biggest hate group in America!!!

Hate is an emotional, not rational, or reasoned state. It accomplishes nothing positive, and more often than not, leads to social and physical conflict. Hate is like a cancer. If allowed to flourish, and grow unchecked, it consumes the host.

Spiritual masters have repeatedly, delivered messages of love and selflessness, as a guide for social discourse. Humanities problems are self inflicted.

I call it phony, corporate populism. The easily fooled, low information gullibles jumped right in.
Best example was the fake populist “anger” against health care reform in Summer 2010. All promoted by health insurance companies and pushed by the Republican & Tea Party as an outpouring by the masses. When it was a couple of hundred corporate shills/Tea Baggers sent to disrupt. Mainstream Media ate it up. CNN showed those tapes all Summer.

I keep reminding people those disruptions and armed interlopers are the same types of disruptions caused by Hitler’s SS undercovers that helped disrupt Germany’s political discourse and bring Hitler into power.
Same old tactics used by different groups to subvert freedom and required governmental functions. It ends up subverting the will of the majority of the citizens.

But people don’t learn history in school. American education is low down on the world list of good educational systems. So we are condemned to relive the horrors of Nazi Germany.

Funny, it was their former hero who introduced Homeland Security to our government and it was passed by their senators and congress people with no hesitation. I’m sure there were Democrats who voted for it as well, but don’t forget we had gone through 9/11 and many people (most being right wing) who were paranoid and stated very loudly, I’d sacrifice my rights for security.

Besides having giant Amygdalas, they have the shortest memories.

  • http://twitter.com/dmkraig Donald Michael Kraig

Calling Malkin and Gingrich “conservatives” falls into a trap. It’s makes them sound like nice people just trying to conserve things. The fact is, they are NOT conservatives. They are right-wing extremists and should always be labeled as such.

  • Johnny Warbucks

Ooooh, THAT movement! Why didn’t you say so before, man?

And, please, don’t send ‘em to Iran. Those poor people have enough going on with all the shahs and the Sharia Law and the Ahmadinejad bashing and all that. Instead, send them to Israel. They’re all like two peas in a pod. Of course, the danger is that they’ll invade Gaza and those poor people don’t deserve that, they’ve had enough. We could send them to the Swiss though. They seem to be all chummy these days.

  • lyris

Many times I would copy the words fascist and nazi and their definitions from my dictionary, and because they read in some lame book written by their ilk that both are left wing they ignore the dictionary.

I’ve never come across such a group of idiots in all my life, and I worked at GoodWill with people with I.Q.’s below 70, who seem to be much smarter than the teabagging/gop.

Naming as “hate groups” those organizations devoted to eradicating hate is simply the
expected move of the Orwellian right’s manipulation of reality: things are what you call them, and if your audience is ignorant of the facts, then reality is simply what you say. Frank Luntz

    playbook for Fox and friends.

If you recall all of us were in shock when 9/11 happened. I used to go to NYC regularly to buy gems and findings for my former husband’s and my jewelry repair business on Canal Street.

Thank God I wasn’t there that day. I’ve only traveled twice through NYC, I just can’t visit there anymore.

I just get kind of scared that if they continue to fool more and more people during the worsening of this economic downturn they will take full control in 2012 and finish leading this country down the path of what happened during the 3rd Reich but this new 4th Reich could start rounding up liberals, Muslims and illegal immigrants for starters. Those of us who speak out on liberal blogs such as this one will give them the paper trail they need to go after us. Personally I plan to stand up to them and proudly declare myself a liberal. No. That was sarcasm. I read a lot of stupid stuff said by Tea-Partiers but this is the most outrageous I have read so far. If that was spoken in Australia, that person would be seen as undeserving of media attention and not longer participate in political debate. Yet in America, it is acceptable.
