Arizona shooter left trail of anti-government screeds on Internet

Conservatives derided and dismissed an April 2009 report by the Department of Homeland Security warning law enforcement officials of a spike in violence fueled in part by “antigovernment” sentiments, which in retrospect appears to have been a chilling omen for the tragic Arizona shooting Saturday.

The report (PDF), which was coordinated with the FBI and titled, “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment,” warned of a rise in violence spurred by the economic downturn and the election of the nation’s first African-American president.

Eighteen were shot, some fatally, in the attacks Saturday at a Tucson grocery store, including Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (AZ), who was critically wounded, as well as members of her staff and a federal judge.

The suspected gunman, Jared Lee Loughner, 22, has apparently posted anti-government screeds in videos on YouTube — first uncovered by Talking Points Memo‘s Evan McMorris-Santoro — which include paranoid rantings about the government, mind control and grammar.

“In conclusion, reading the second United States Constitution, I can’t trust the current government because of the ratifications,” Loughner wrote in one video. “The government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar.”

“You’re a treasurer for a new currency, listener? You create and distribute your new currency, listener?” he continued. “You don’t allow the government to control your grammar structure, listener?”

“No! I won’t pay debt with a currency that’s not backed by gold and silver!”

In the report, the DHS defined “rightwing” in part as groups and individuals “that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely.” (Emphasis ours.)

At the time, conservatives slammed the report as a political attack.

“The person who drafted the outrageous homeland security memo smearing veterans and conservatives should be fired,” former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) remarked.

Conservative blogger Michelle Malkin called the report a “hit job on conservatives,” decrying it as “one of the most embarrassingly shoddy pieces of propaganda I’d ever read out of DHS. I couldn’t believe it was real.”

Various other conservatives joined them in denouncing it as an attack on political opponents, and one right-wing group even filed a lawsuit against DHS.

In the last year and a half, there have been several acts of violence based on hate and anti-government sentiment, including an Austin pilot crashing a plane into an IRS building and a gunman shooting a guard at a Holocaust museum.

If an American is anti-war for example … does an “America at war” government have the right to call that individual “Anti-American?”.

NO, provided said individual isn’t antagonistic and sarcastic in their public commentry, or action. ie: doesn’t insult or lambast others abusively that they come into contact with, for the others’ support of their nation. There are intelligent ways to make people think. Since the Liberal thinkers are challenging the status quo, they need to first challenge themselves to find the smartest way to “sell” their ideology.

    Ummm,

According to the DHS definitions, most people I’ve ever met could qualify as a ‘terrorist’ in one way or another.

    That’s the problem.

But now Rawstory is going to politicize this to implicate that the DHS was ‘maybe’ right in their findings and that people with Constitutions in hand should be shackled.

So we take ten steps back now and rub shoulders with the DHS because of Jared Loughner…

    DHS=Good

Now shop at Walmart and listen to Janet Napolitano because BIG SISTER will stop the new ‘white al qaeda’

Oh yeah, and no citizens are allowed to town hall meetings anymore….

And no more guns for anyone….

And no more political talk that disagrees with Government…

    Socialists, Anarchists, Libertarians, Greens,Constitutionalists

YOU ARE ALL GUILTY ACCORDING TO DHS…..to the gas chambers!!!

The gunman was a delusional liberal….He had no ties to the Tea Party. His favorite books included the communist manifesto and mine kaumpf. Both extreme socialist ideologies. He railed against Gifford because he felt that our 8th District was illiterate; he called her stupid and unintelligent. His friend described his politics in the past as “left wing, quite liberal, & oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy.” This profile can be found on a known liberal media outlet MSNBC. It is a shame that the extreme left wing and their rhetoric has produced a monster like this. Their anger of extremist left wing liberals at blue dog democrats have fueled a crazy maniac like this.

The “Nation” was also born out of people who fled England because of religious persecution there. They came to the colonies so they could practice their religion without government interference. Some of the people of religious belief abhor the concept of war. And for that, they are to be called “Anti-American?” Will that type of persecution ever end?

Why would any so-called rightwinger target her? She is Pro-border control, Pro-2nd Amendment, and seems very reasonable in every other way…this proves the guy is nothing but a fruitcake and on top of that he admits in his videos to being an atheist military recruit who oddly loves the Communist Manifesto.

What “extreme left wing…rhetoric”, precisely, are you talking about? Can you show me even a single example of left-wing rhetoric that calls for or even implies the murder of a legislator? If you can find me an example, even on the far, far left, I will eat my hat. And whatever you find will still not compare to the implied (and sometimes explicit) violence that mainstream, popular right-wingers like Sharron Angle and Sarah Palin (not to mention the FOX News commentators or authors like Ann Coulter) spew on a regular basis. Sarah Palin literally put crosshairs on Rep. Giffords. Literally. What in the left’s rhetoric even comes close, given the current circumstances?

In the report, the DHS defined “rightwing” in part as groups and individuals “that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely.”

Not an authority, but anarchist seems a more appropriate name for that definition than rightwing. Without clear evidence of the accused being tied with rightwing groups and causes, it might not be appropriate to associate the him with them. If he is more an anarchist than rightwing, he is opposed to all, goverment, rightwing or leftwing, and if that is true, it is not likely that the rightwing media had much influence on his thinking. His influence came from other sources.

At the risk of sounding like a total crunchy hippie here, how dare you put “important figure” in quotation marks? That woman was a duly and rightfully elected legislator in the government of the United States of America. She wasn’t some crackpot dictator or whining reality television star. She was put forth by the people of her district to represent them. And whether you agree with her or not, her importance to the country cannot be denied.

Also, at least five other people died in that attack, including a nine-year-old girl. Now I don’t support the idea of a police state clampdown, and in fact I don’t think any more “security measures” need to be added to this nation – the Patriot Act did a stellar job of taking away all of our rights in the name of a totally false security already – but your condescension is uncalled-for and just another brick in the partisan war of words that fueled this heinous act in the first place.

One of his internet postings was anti-anarchist, though his ramblings were so incoherent that what he wrote may not be his philosophy. Definite paranoia about government, and slams about the malfundtioning of government, and the government not following the Constitution. A lot of his stuff sounded like a blend of extreme libertarianism and extreme RWNJ slogans… note I’m not calling him a conservative, I’m lumping him in the nutjob catagory right now. A lot of the right wing media talking heads spend a lot of time criticizing government in general, talking about it being useless, wasteful, etc. It encourages anyone to hate government… yeah an anarchist is going to hate government period, but the only folks out there egging on those beliefs are right wing. So pushing anarchist leanings over into the bomb throwing anarchist type would be on the RW media’s head. Because the left (poorly) tries to let folks know the good things government does. The right claims everything it does is bad- except kill people with our military, or legislate our freedom of association by telling gays they can’t marry their love, or women they have to bear the child of a rapist-then government is GOOD!

DHS doesn’t know what they are talking about. Extreme left wing ideology leads towards communism while extreme right wing ideology leads to Neo-liberalism (not to be confused by today’s liberals). these are the right and left spectrums, but then you have the north and south spectrums that move from Authoritarian (Facism) to anarchism. There are authoritarians and anarchist both on the left and right spectrum. Stalin was a far left facist, while Hitler was near centrist facist. Jared Lee Loughner was on the opposite end of the social spectrum from Stalin, he’s a left-wing anarchist. His friend described his politics in the past as “left wing, quite liberal, & oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy.”

One must remember that Newt Gingrich became speaker of the House of Representatives in January 1995 following a vitriolic pre-midterms Republican smear campaign against President Clinton and Democrats in general the year before in 1994, with Gingrich becoming House speaker a few short months before Timothy McVeigh bombed the Murrah Federal Office :Building in Oklahoma City, killing close to 200 people, federal workers and visitors that were on-site at the time. And what did Newt Gingrich do as speaker, along with the Republicans in charge of House committees? They launched investigation after investigation into President Clinton’s administration, trying to find something, anything that would stick, that would lead to criminal charges against Democrats (and President Clinton), primarily as payback for Nixon getting caught, investigated and almost impeached, as well as payback for any Republicans involved in Watergate who got jail time. 1995 was the first year after Watergate that Republicans (in control of the House) could finally get revenge.

It is now sixteen years later. Notice the similarities between then and now? John Boehner just sworn-in last week as the new Republican speaker of the House of Representatives. Rep. Darryl Issa (R-CA) already planning on committee investigation after investigation into the Obama administration. And many of the issues from Clinton’s first two years in office being repeated in Obama’s first two years in office: health care reform, DADT, etc etc.

But I’d have to say that the Republican Party today is much more radicalized than in 1995, just as the Republican Party in 1995 was more radical than the Republican Party, in general, was during the Nixon years, much of this due to 1) Reagan getting rid of the Fairness Doctrine in the 1980s, 2) wealthy conservatives buying up media outlets (radio, television and print), making it possible for these new conservative owners to plant conservative propagandists throughout our news media, undermining the integrity of our nation’s First Amendment Fourth Estate, and 3) the recent “Citizens United” ruling by the Republican-dominated Supreme Court, making it possible for wealthy conservatives (including foreign conservatives) to spend unlimited, anonymous funds on smear campaigns against Democrats and even not-radical-enough moderate Republicans.

Result? Heightened levels of anti-government right-wing rhetoric leading to government officials and bystanders/visitors being killed (as in the Tucson Safeway parking lot today, as in Oklahoma City in 1995, as at the Holocaust Museum, as at the Austin IRS building, as in other incidents, but especially over the past two years since Obama became president, as right-wing “Death Panel” anti-government rhetoric was ginned up to the boiling point, to the breaking point, to the killing point, ramping up the paranoia on the right, feeding the fear, with facts and common sense being drowned out, as INTENTIONAL disinformation and misinformation was spread in an INTENTIONAL win-at-any-cost right-wing propaganda campaign, one using every right-wing “talking points” media outlet (radio, television, print and the internet). IOW, a repeat before the 2010 mid-terms of the 2002/2003 “catapulting the propaganda” period before the start of the Iraq War, a disingenuous Republican tactic that keeps “working,” and keeps getting people targeted for elimination, a character assassination tactic that often leads to actual assassinations or attempted assassinations (or death threats or terrorist letters being mailed containing powder).

Will Republicans tone it down? Will Faux News’ Roger Ailes? O’Reilly? Hannity? Beck? Sammons? Will Rupert Murdoch and News Corp step up to the plate and order the talking heads/producers at Faux to stick to the facts and stop spouting outright vitriol or deceptive right-wing talking points? Will Frank Luntz, Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin, and so many other Republicans, stop feeding this uncontrollable conservative beast? Will they choose peace over war? Will they choose truth over lies/spin? And with many of these Republicans purporting to be Christian and claiming America is a Christian nation, will they choose Christ over the anti-Christ? We will soon find out. Either these Republicans will accept responsibility for poisoning our nation’s discourse or they, like they’ve done before, will try to spin it that Democrats are responsible for what happened today in that Tucson Safeway parking lot, that only if all Democrats were “beaten over the head with a baseball bat” or eliminated, then our society would be better off, one dead Democrat piled on top of another dead Democrat, with triumphant Republicans standing on top of the pile of dead Democrats…because, you see, this is what these Republicans have really been advocating, propagandizing for years to happen. And yet, this growing pile of dead or injured Democrats includes dead or injured Republican appointees (federal judge John Roll), Republicans working as public servants (policeman, fireman, etc.) and a growing number of children with no political affiliation (the 9-year-old girl killed in the Tucson Safeway parking lot today, the children in day care or visiting at the Murrah Office Building in 1995). Enough is enough!!!! For supposedly being pro-life, why do so many Republicans instead seem to be pro-death?

Being of the anti war, anti government generation of the 60′s we declared “Don’t trust the establishment”, which included “don’t trust anyone over 30″ and the government, which for much of that time was ruled by both Democrats (LBJ) and Republicans (NIXON-FORD). We didn’t advocate assassinating government officials nor Public Servants. The Rad Right has taken a different perspective, the GO-TEAdiots, instituting their option of “Second Amendment rights” and setting up the “hit lists,” a-la Sarah Palin and echoed by the likes of John McCain. GOTEA has taken treason to the OFFICIAL level, giving license to propagandize to their FUX, Beck, Limbaugh mouthpieces and to kill, to their “constituents”. Though I align Democratic, I go by my philosophy, Never trust anyone wearing a suit.

I personally think the emphasis on the definitions was helpful. The terms were not exactly clear. I wouldn’t have defined right wing that way.

Jared was a misfit who found his place in the world by shooting a bunch of people in front of a Safeway store.

Jared’s political views cannot be pinned down by sane people because his political views are manifestations of insanity.

Jared was kicked out of college because he was considered a threat to the safety of students and staff. He was told that he could not come back without a note from a qualified psychiatrist saying he would not harm people on campus. They knew he had severe mental problems.

Jared was rejected by the U.S. military because they too knew he had severe mental problems.

Everybody knew about Jared. He had severe mental problems.

What is not yet known is to what extent the rhetoric of people like Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin had an influence on him.

Once again, Neoconhater gets upset when somebody posts the truth.

Why would Neoconhater get upset, you might ask? Because Neoconhater, like Jared, has severe mental issues.

Reality has no bearing on Neoconhater’s existence. Reality is not something s/he understands on any level. Truth is reality. Neoconhater hates truth.

I hate stupid people like Neoconhater and Jared because they are dangerous. The more truth put before them, the more dangerous they become. It’s a kind of involuntary psychopathic compensation.

But please notice, Neoconhater is exactly the kind of person that ends up in front of Safeway stores shooting people in the face. That’s not a joke. It’s a tragedy.

Again, the question is, how much influence do proponents of hate have on people like Neoconhater. What will determine his or her fate? Will somebody get to Neoconhater before it’s too late? Or will somebody sell Neoconhater a Glock on an otherwise quiet winter’s day? Time will tell.

Exactly, now to snip that persecution bit off at the end. I believe the young Americans did a commendable job. I believe young Americans today are capable of success. International education is in order at a real hands on level of experience. I would love to have children and young adults become more familiar with others from other Nations. A six month study abroad requirement for graduation. Media and single source control needs to be monitored publicly. Many people from other countries look to America for guidance and inspiration. All nations need it. Including America.

Leftists want a civil war. Isn’t it obvious?. A Leftist kills and now the crack down on Real Americans begins. The Leftist war on America has begun.

Progressivism, liberalism, or whatever you want to call it has become an ideology of power. So long as liberals hold it, principles don’t matter.

Heres todays daily dose of bitter irony. If this kid, who showed EVERY sign of an untreated form of disorganized schizophrenia, who was recognized by multiple people as having a mental illness…had had access to cheap basic health care and easy low cost access to treatment…this incident could have been prevented. Of course…if the Arizonans and GOP members nationwide really want this issue examined without touching on the possibility of violent rhetoric motivating already unstable people toward violence…they’re still left with the fact that a decent public system for health care could have nipped this in the bud. That’s not a right left issue…its just a painful truth issue.

I still want to hear about who dropped him off nearby. Someone like Jared is easy to manipulate if you feed their fantasies instead of contradicting them. The choice of targets may have been manipulated by someone who wasn’t classically insane…but just plain evil.

You mean like James Lee? ELF? Weather Underground? Violent left wing anarchists and environmentalists, etc, etc, etc? Get off your leftist high-horse, check law enforcement and intelligence reports on left-wing extremism, and commence fucking yourselves, Raw Story. As if leftists’ shit doesn’t stink too. Between this and blaming Sarah Palin within the first five minutes of this recent shooting, this rag is officially a fucking joke.

I’d like to add the people yelling terrorist whenever Obama was mentioned at McCain/Palin campaign rallies in ’08 . There is great footage of John McCain (who seems genuinely disturbed by the behavior) correcting people at a rally saying that Obama is a decent family man. It’s actually quite touching and shows a real human side. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3c-Ijky95dc&feature=related On the flip side, I recall Sarah Palin being told Obama was a terrorist at a rally and she agreeing with them (Tried to find that footage but could not). She is so hungry for power and approval she would do anything and that is truly terrifying.

of course there were nutters and activists during days of Nam–against a false war–but environmentalists don’t go around with automatics, gunning down elected officials. And if you check you will note that the intel guys (FBI et al) in fact have a long record of going after, taping, wstaling, infiltrating any group to the left of center.

America its time to meet your new owner allow me to introduce Mr. Boner

He cries on the platform, drinks lots of tea while claiming to love liberty

For the past four years the party of no has been his ebb and tide and flow

When his party was in power the game was fear, Mr. Boner never shed a tear

The path he rides is dark with force, the ship he sails is way off course

He represents the GOP, believes he’s better than you and me

When we the people voted for change and hope, Mr. Boner whipped out a rope

He claimed his mission was very clear bring down the President, he shed no tears

opposed him, harassed him, told outright lies a black president he does despise

he did nothing for the people of this wonderful land all the corporations thought he was grand

no regulations, nor help for the people, Mr. Boner worships at the corporate steeple

He said no to jobs and no to health, he always says yes to corporate wealth

He said read the constitution it will set you free, would you like another cup of tea

Tear down health care, tax the poor, for electing that man I will even the score

We need more jobs this really ain’t funny he says while soliciting corporate money

He has no problem with wars and strife, not a worry about taking innocent life

He opens his mouth and bares his teeth like a crocodile ready to eat

He will fatten us up and pile on the debt
there will be no jobs and this you can bet

His constant chatter will be there’s no money in this great land of milk and honey

he jumps on the pedestal and sells us tea, claiming those crocodile tears are for you and for me

I had to dig for my books in the back dusty shelves of libraries.” At 16 he wrote to the Socialist Party of America for information on their Young People’s Socialist League, saying he had been studying socialist principles for “well over fifteen months.” (However, Edward Voebel, “whom the Warren Commission had established was Oswald’s closest friend during his teenage years in New Orleans…said that reports that Oswald was already[when?] ‘studying Communism’ were a ‘lot of baloney.’ ” Voebel said that “Oswald commonly read ‘paperback trash.’ “)

Democrats are not going to call for massive fascism. Most Democrats want America to be a country that follows the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The Republican party believes that big business should make policy and push through their agenda. Republicans take the money and ignore those who are powerless. Combine corporations and government and you get fascism. Big oil makes our energy policies, big pharma our drug policy, big chemical companies make our environmental policies. Now that’s Fascism.

It is apparent, however, that Oswald was moved by an overriding hostility to his environment. He does not appear to have been able to establish meaningful relationships with other people. He was perpetually discontented with the world around him. Long before the assassination he expressed his hatred for American society and acted in protest against it. Oswald’s search for what he conceived to be the perfect society was doomed from the start. He sought for himself a place in history — a role as the “great man” who would be recognized as having been in advance of his times. His commitment to Marxism and communism appears to have been another important factor in his motivation. He also had demonstrated a capacity to act decisively and without regard to the consequences when such action would further his aims of the moment. Out of these and the many other factors which may have molded the character of Lee Harvey Oswald there emerged a man capable of assassinating President Kennedy.[

as a resident of Arizona and having a strong opinion about whats happening in our country i will say that the government is making major changes in our country with out the majority support of its people. it shows a discontent of the system that our leaders are elected to support . The differences of our two party system that reflects a almost a violent additude toward one another without consideration of what the people support . We are witnessing a total breakdown of the federal government, state government and major corruption of the country the push for a new world order will have the people up in arms because we are not sheep .

This was a predictable outcome of the extreme hyperbolic rhetoric that has become a mainstay of the tea party movement — claims that Obama and the Democrats are trying to destroy the nation, assertions that left-of-center members of Congress are guilty of unAmerican activities and beliefs, commentaries equating progressivism with communism or Marxism, and inflammatory calls to “take back the country” and resort to “Second Amendment remedies” will only serve to boil the blood and embolden the irrational thinking of a handful of the most fervent supporters of Angle, Palin, Beck, Bachmann, Brewer, et al.

People who aspire to positions of leadership need to recognize the inherent potential hazards of such inflammatory commentary. Simply because one has the First Amendment Right to say a thing does not mean it is the right thing to say.

    2. Anti-government

    5. Propensity for violence as a solution.

They own everything. They own all the important land. They own, and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought, and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They don’t give a fuck about you . . . they don’t give a fuck about you. They don’t care about you at all . . . at all . . . at all, and nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. That’s what the owners count on. The fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue dick that’s being jammed up their assholes everyday, because the owners of this country know the truth. It’s called the American Dream cause you have to be asleep to believe it…”

Sadly the failing of a Liberal is the broad range of Interests that they wish to foster.

A Political Party must focus first and foremost by establishing and maintaining sound Government Policies prior to indulgence in idealist whims.

The Democrats have granted themselves indulgence without reversing the Nation’s Route to failure…

    End result? Further Decline.

The spin is on, tomorrow it really begins, the same old lame folks on TV and the radio, the same old lame guest, singing the same old songs to each other. You notice there is rarely a new face with a different prespective, the same village voices, knowing that their very livelihood depends on not, going off message. Just suppose all who post comments on this and other sites, would for a week tune out the thought conducters on TV and the radio, and stop buying all this BS being sold, and talk to each other, compare notes about who’s really shafting you. Man, if we get off this them Vs Us crap, and recognize just who is playing us, then you will see that both political parties are corupted. That’s not to say all members of each party is guilty, however as I was taught, silence is consent!

Those that speakout get zero air time, but they are there, to few hear their voices to make any impact. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out, who’s zoomin who. But it does take strength to turn off that tube, and when you do the brain will filter out much of the BS, being sold as news.

Which major changes are you talking about?

If you mean the healthcare law, you are just falling for the rhetoric. While the healthcare law is not popular with either side, it is for different reasons. Progressives believe that it did not go far enough. Conservatives are under the mistaken belief that one can choose not to pay for healthcare, so being forced to pay for health insurance is somehow wrong. Fact is that we all pay for the uninsured through our taxes that go to the hospitals and through higher premiums on those who DO have health insurance.

The Supreme Court made a major change with Citizens United. They impact of that will be felt for as long as we continue to have a republic.

Republicans and (very sadly) spineless Democrats voted for, and Obama signed a major tax bill that was certainly not supported by the majority of the country, but was very much supported by Conservatives.

So,which major changes are you talking about?

Arthur Jensen: [bellowing] You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale, and I won’t have it! Is that clear? You think you’ve merely stopped a business deal. That is not the case! The Arabs have taken billions of dollars out of this country, and now they must put it back! It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity! It is ecological balance! You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multinational dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels. It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today! And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU… WILL… ATONE!
Arthur Jensen: [calmly] Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale? You get up on your little twenty-one inch screen and howl about America and democracy. There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. (FoxNews, throw in for fun) Those *are* the nations of the world today. What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state, Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do. We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business. The world is a business, Mr. Beale. It has been since man crawled out of the slime. And our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that… perfect world… in which there’s no war or famine, oppression or brutality. One vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock. All necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused. And I have chosen you, Mr. Beale, to preach this evangel.
    Howard Beale: Why me?
Arthur Jensen: Because you’re on television, dummy. Sixty million people watch you every night of the week, Monday through Friday.
Howard Beale: I have seen the face of God.
Arthur Jensen: You just might be right, Mr. Beale.
It is what, what it is!!!

The unemployment here is created by the wealthy companies that are sooo gready that ship jobs overseas and are protected by republicans. The extremist here is created by brainwashed “patriots” that kill to impose their views aginst the government. The middle class is disappearing because failed voodooo economics implemented by Reaganites to increase defense spending are reduce taxes to bare minumums basically stripping operating budgets and creating financial bubbles for the enrichment of the wealthiest class that they want excluded from tasxes, yes the top 10% that make so much money and are tax excempted.

So Gingrich wanted the people who warned about this to be fired?

But if so much effort were put into finding out why nobody connected the dots before 9/11, why did we tolerate Gingrich trying to get rid of those that actually *did* connect a lot of the dots in this domestic terror attack?

The sad truth is that 9/11 have become a political means by which conservatives marginalise Muslims and other minorities, while the DHS report was about terror and violence coming out of the conservative movement itself – which is something that doesn’t score high on the conservatives own radar.

Of course the conservatives would deride such a report. Since they continue their rhetoric it is no wonder that a misfit would leap on this information and act on it. There no doubt will be more to come if this rhetoric is not toned down. I expect that the conservatives will continue, because it seems to be working to ther benefit.

The bailouts were a very sad necessity. If you think getting a loan right now is difficult (and speaking from experience, it is), it would have been impossible without the bailouts. And at the time, they were not nearly as unpopular as they have become in retrospect.

A conservative in communist USSR is equivalant to an exreme left wing nut here is the US. A conservative here in the US is considered a liberal in Communist USSR. Stalin was very much a communist which is as left as you can get. Do some research a conservative wants to maintain the status quo. A US Capitalist conservative in USSR would be advocating to change the communist economy and therefore considered a liberal in the eyes of those in Russia.

Hitler was considered a conservative to his base constituency because of his nationalistic apeal; however, he implemented socialist policies by nationalizing major industries and implemented a very successful workfare program, which resulted in virtually zero unemployment by 1938, at that time Germany even lacked enough workers to fill the available jobs.

If you look at the political spectrum analysis link I provided you’ll see that both Stalin and Hitler are about equal on the Authoritarian (Facism) end of the social spectrum.

Captains of Industry in the US wanted to maintain ties with Germany because they came out of the depression much faster than other nations around the world. It was the place to invest at that time in history. Even John Patrick Kennedy, the father to JFK and RFK supported the Nazi Regime in an effort to protect his financial investments. So it was both ends of the political spectrum that supported Hitler…

Please do some research from credible resources before forming your opinion. Pulling your info from far left sources like this blog leave you with a narrow view of history by ignoring the fact that history is not black and white, or left and right like you’d like to believe.

I agree wholeheartedly. When Reagan was president he put the mendally ill out into the streets. No mental care for them. Since then it has been a fight,by mostly family members of the mentally ill, to secure health care for their loved ones. Blame we the people for letting this happen. We hate taxes (the repubs have brainwashed people on this issue) so there always will be less care for those who need it. The repubs will never accept laws that help the needy. They, as I have said before, are selfish “only for me” people. Their aim is ridding us of the middle class, because they mean trouble for the repubs.

The ONLY right ‘people’ to kill are corporate persons. Unfortunately, they are designed to be immortal so are very hard to kill. Human beingsneed to speak to each other, not kill each other and not try to out shout each other. We all need to behave as human beings and demand that human rights remain for humans. This will go a long way towards fixing the real wrongs in this country.

Agreed on how we got into the mess. But the bailouts were in fact necessary to avoid a global collapse. The system needed to be recapitalized as the money was “gone”. People said “let the banks fail….just give me my money and let them fail”….not realizing that their money was gone. This was Sept of 2008. There was a $500 billion run on money markets. Had this become public at the time you would have had a public run on the banks that would have also led to complete global collapse. This does not mean “recession” or “depression”. We are talking the flow of goods and services virtually stopping. Oil, food, etc. No law and order. Pandemonium. That’s the reality of what we were facing, and that is no joke.

Again, how we got there was criminal. But that is a separate issue.

Anyway, that test of speech-protection from state censorship and/or control gave way in Brandenburg v. We have a president who wants to address greed and corruption. First honest man in decades, and a guy who really cares about working people. The Volcker Rules were not completely enacted not because Obama did not want it, but because Congress would not allow it.

This is what they do. Create a climate of violence and lawlessness, project it onto and demonize the left to scare the center/moderates, seize power, and rule by violence, lies and utter lawlessness.

We saw them do a trial run from 2001-2008. All that looting of the Treasury, transfers of money to the billionaires, gutting of the Constitution, spying on Americans, ginned up wars, rousting citizens out of Bush’s events for wearing T shirts, Guantánamo and secret renditions, etc.

They are the EPITOME of lawlessness and cowardice. And their default is to whine, not take responsibility for their actions, and project it all onto their opponents. Always.

I’m disappointed in this site’s parroting of Federal Perception Management talking points, and lack of curiosity re: many of these supposedly “right” wing killers. What about the lies in the media military complex that led drooling morons from the U.S. and a few other countries to go kill and maim and rape Iraqis and Afganis based upon the fully debunked official 9/11 myth and that of the WMD? Look the other way: you’ve got more thoughtpolicing to do!

Napolitano is an authoritarian police state-implementing operative. Try looking up how the local media in OKC reported the removal of unexploded bombs in the Murrah Federal Building after the supposed van caused 1/2 of that building to collapse. Wake up to the scam they’re pulling to keep you afraid and COWED into Gropethink.

How quickly you fall into the right vs. left dynamic. It doesn’t really exist. . . it’s an illusion. Obama is right of center. Hillary is right of center. Remember, once the enemy was the “Patriot Act” and the “NSA”. Obama and his administration gave those the Democratic approval. Gitmo and torture is still an American Institution. And, the Democratic administration has extended the “War on Terror” into other Middle Eastern countries.

Things haven’t changed since the Bush administration. Why pretend otherwise?

“the government is making major changes in our country with out the majority support of its people.”
I wonder why you think that? The changes made by the government were passed by the Congress and signed by the President. They are lawful, even if you do not agreee with them. But I think you are a right winger, maybe a birther, maybe one who thinks Mr. O is a socialist. All wrong. Do you vote? Write your Congressperson? Or spend all day listening to Rush Windbag?

And do not forget the repeal of the Glass-Stegall act, by a Republican Congress – over ten years ago. It was the repeal of this law, passed in the ’30s after the depression, which allowed the criminal Republicans and banks to begin their orgy of greed.

Where have you been the last 30 years? Anti-government sentiment is an integral feature of right-wing rhetoric. It does sound like anarchism, but it’s coming out the mouths of people who wrap themselves in the flag. Ironic, huh?

I read an article this morning making the case that this situation might make things worse. I’m paraphrasing here but they stated that because of the shooting it will make it harder for the less powerful (poor) people to get access to there Representatives. The rich will have easier access and therefore more influence, if that’s even possible.

You are welcome sir, we can all learn from each other.

The repeal was only a portion of the GLBA. It also started some of the Credit Default Swaps and such. Paul Krugman has referred to Phil Gramm as the “Father of the Financial Crisis” due to Gramm’s sponsorship of the Bill. But though a Republican Bill, it is also noted that most Democrats also voted for it (though people like Byron Dorgnan and Barney Frank voted “no”), and also that Bill Clinton signed the Bill, and that Larry Summers (Obama’s worst hire) also went along with it. Obama has thankfully dumped Summers.

Headline: Arizona shooting suspect may be linked to anti-Semitic group

THE suspect being held over Saturday’s shooting of US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords may have links to anti-Semitic race hate group American Renaissance.

An internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo quoted by FOX News Channel revealed the gunman – named by the media as Jared Loughner, 22 – is “possibly linked” to American Renaissance.

The group subscribes to an ideology that is “anti-government, anti-immigration, anti -ZOG (Zionist Occupational Government), anti-Semitic,” according to the DHS memo.

Giffords “is the first Jewish female elected to such a high position in the US government. She was also opposite this group’s ideology when it came to immigration debate,” the note said.

When will people understand that a two-party system will not work when one party tries to look forward and doesn’t want to stir up the past, and the other party is out to get revenge for the past and to load their pockets with money?

And it is not so much the parties that are to be blamed, but the electorate. USA has gotten – and will continue to get – the politicians and leaders it chooses – and deserve.

I’m no fan of the tea party, but none of this adds up for me. Giffords was hardly a left-wing ideologue. On the contrary, she opposed gun control, wanted the Mexican border guarded closely, and rode a motorcycle without a helmet. Sounds like a libertarian conservative to me, not a liberal.

This guy looks more and more like simply an incoherent nut. He had to go after someone, and Giffords was the nearest target.

    THE KING´S TERRIFYING NIGHTMARE
    July 7, 2009 | Hull, Quebec

The polarization that is being entrenched in American society these days, was foretold long ago in the Book of Daniel from the scriptures on the captivity of Babylon.

The King of Babylon had a terrible nightmare that left him shaken to the bone and that spread to everyone in his Court. He called in all his Cabinet Ministers, Advisors, Experts, and Consultants to tell him the dream that he forgot. No one could tell him what is was, and he ordered all the wise men in Babylon to be executed. He reasoned he could not have had such a terrible nightmare unless he was being given bad advice.

Daniel, a Jew of the captivity and recognized as being a dissolver of doubts, was able to get a stay of execution while he prayed to the God of Abraham to have the dream revealed to him. It was.

Daniel told the king, You, O king, saw, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before you; and the form of it was terrible. This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.

He continued, You, O king, are a king of kings: for the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. And where ever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven has he given into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all. You are this head of gold.

After you shall arise another kingdom inferior to you, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. No doubt the king was pacified and pleased in hearing this interpretation of a dream he did not remember.

And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and subdues all things: and as iron that breaks all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. And whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be DIVIDED; but there shall be in it of the STRENGTH OF IRON, inasmuch as you saw the iron mixed with miry clay.

And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be PARTLY STRONG, and PARTLY BROKEN. And whereas you saw iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

Babylon, now known as Iraq, was the world’s 1st Imperial Superpower 2600 years ago. This concept of an Imperial Superpower is carried over to the New Testament to the end of days, the Un-United States being the latest, greatest. The tail has struck the head.

Obama (who I do not like at all), interacted with Ayers decades after Ayers went mainstream.

Ayers was nowhere near the New York townhouse where, Oughton, who had not been Ayer’s girlfriend for more than a year, was killed by an explosive device probably assembled by Terry Robbins and Oughton herself.

Sadly, I agree with MOST of what you have said. However, Loughner may have had a loose connection with American Renaissance, an anti-Semitic, racist organization, according to a memo from the Department of Homeland Security. I doubt conservatives will be able to “SUCCESSFULLY prove to the nation that this issue was caused by liberal ideas gone wild.” He will turn out to be an insane young man with a gun, a volatile combination. And I disagree that “no cons will take any heat.” They are already being criticized for their violent rhetoric. But the rest of your contention that Fox and the right are shameless, yes. On that, you are right. I don’t think they care that a federal judge, a 9-year-old girl, three senior citizens and a heroic Congressional staffer who gave his life for the Congresswoman are dead. No shame. No empathy.

How many of us can no longer speak to family and friends because of politics? The righties ruined our country and brain washed many Americans that they can’t even now see what is right in front of them.

Idiots like that broad from Alaska need to be shunned and ostracized from the public forum. The way to do that is to boycott advertisers of media outlets who mention their names or anything about them. Money still means a lot to big businesses who sponsor media outlets who mention her name or post stories about people like her.

I would suggest this site also be boycotted for posting stupid and meaningless stories about people who take off their pants for attention and the other ridiculous shit it’s highlighted.

RAW is becoming more Tabloid in nature and posting so many articles about bullshit topics lately it’s time for me to say good-bye assholes and spend what little time I do on-line at NEWS SOURCES that are more productive like Mother Jones, Common Dreams, Counter Punch, and Canadian and British outlets.

Attacks on Obama’s patriotism led to death threats, agents say.

“A conservative in communist USSR is equivalant to an exreme left wing nut here is the US. A conservative here in the US is considered a liberal in Communist USSR.”

You accuse me of referencing “liberal sources” like a 1927 Time article, which is laughable enough, yet you cite nothing at all and simply pluck absurd claims like th one above directly out of you ass.

I see. Lets re-examine Stalins accomplishments, shall we?

    Industrialization

While not explicitly conservative or liberal, conservatives tend to emphasize industrialization more than liberals. He paid for his initiatives by taking money from the rich to finance these changes, which does lean towards the liberal principle of redistributing wealth to benefit the poor, however low wages, lack of worker rights, and the use of political prisoners to perform unpaid labor leans conservative, especially the first two.

    Collectivization

Seemingly a liberal slam dunk, however, the targets for property confiscation were the middle class, which made up 60% of the population. This also caused famine, as Stalin refused to release grain stores, while still engaging in grain export. Trade over people? Conservative.

    Freedom of Science

Conservative. Rigid control of sciences. Many scientists engaged in “unsafe” scientific research were sent to labor camps.

    Social services

Liberal. More rights for women. Advances in health care. Education.

    Culture

Very conservative in the sense that criticism of the government, non-conformity was cause to be sent to a labor camp. Not to mention the forced relocation, slavery, or internment of indigenous peoples. Also, great effort made to force people into one culture.

    Religion

Conservative. CERTAIN religious prosecuted and persecuted. “During World War II, however, the Church was allowed a revival as a patriotic organization”, but people were not allowed to choose their religion for themselves.

    Purges and deportations

Demonizing and disposing of “undesireables”, political critics, immigrants through deprattion and labor camps.

    Starving the Ukraine into submission

A conservative notion starkly analagous to methodical undoing of the American social safety net.

As for Hitler’s Nazi Party doctrine….let’s see:

    Individualism over collectivism.
Racism or racial segregation over racial tolerance.
    Eugenics over freedom of reproduction.
    Merit over equality.
    Competition over cooperation.
Power politics and militarism over pacifism.
One-person rule or self-rule over democracy.
    Capitalism over Marxism.
    Realism over idealism.
    Nationalism over internationalism.
    Exclusiveness over inclusiveness.
    Meat-eating over vegetarianism.
    Gun ownership over gun control
Common sense over theory or science.
    Pragmatism over principle.
    Religion over secularism.

    Contemporary American conservative doctrine:

    Individualism over collectivism.
Racism or racial segregation over racial tolerance.
    Eugenics over freedom of reproduction.
    Merit over equality.
    Competition over cooperation.
Power politics and militarism over pacifism.
One-person rule or self-rule over democracy.
    Capitalism over Marxism.
    Realism over idealism.
    Nationalism over internationalism.
    Exclusiveness over inclusiveness.
    Meat-eating over vegetarianism.
    Gun ownership over gun control
Common sense over theory or science.
    Pragmatism over principle.
    Religion over secularism.

See, the problem that you are faced with is that no matter how you spin it or what nature of political ideology a movement may be labelled by its authors, authoritarianism is *always* a far-right conservative trait. Always has been and always will be and that is just a fact that you can’t dispute.

    Why so defensive? Guilty conscience?

If you are actually daring to call this shooter Loughner a “free thinker,” then your thought process is more poisoned, twisted, and retarded even than most.

Let’s be clear: narcissistic delusional paranoia is not the equivalent of “free thought.”

As far as that so-called “political profiling” goes, go call a waaaaambulance… we’re really not interested in your hurt feelings.

That study is an absolutely valid piece of social science research, which was started, funded, and completed under the Bush Administration. The only ones playing politics with it are you crybaby pee-pants reichtards… because the truth hurts: there *are* violence-craving Reich Wing nutballs who are a threat to peace, law & order, and life itself in this country… and yes, they do in fact target & recruit veterans — young, impressionable ones only, of course — and they do in fact advocate open warfare against civil society. They’re Reich Wing authoritarian fascist conservatives… own it. And if you don’t like their program of violence and open warfare against civil society, then do what you can to shut them down. But quit crying, as if being identified and rightfully called out and criticized is somehow “unfair.”

    I agree.

The right wing is so bad and some of the politicians so 2 faced that there needs to be permanent web sites devoted to their lies, hypocrisy, and incitement. Occasionally pointing out their hypocrisy does not work because people have short memories. Media Matters does a pretty good job, but the data is not collected by politician or pundit. What I am suggesting is a web site or several that collect data about Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, etc. and summarize it.

They fully intend that someone in their group will “step up” and shoot them.

    “Ayers was a terrorist.”

Operative word: “was.” Past tense. The FBI declined to even file any charges, for they knew that there was no case to be made.

At the time of Palin’s wildly irresponsible incendiary accusation, it was grossly, ostentatiously false. Ayers was, at that time, a respected academic with a decades-long history of well-regarded work in the field of education. Only credulous cretins and lizard-brain fools who typically buy into such poison bought into Palin’s wildly-scurrilous tripe.

As for having regard for truth, you can’t even — ever — seem to get basic facts right, and so you should probably let such larger concepts like “truth” to your intellectual betters. We all know your reality-free idiocy well enough to know that you couldn’t even recognize “truth” if it bit you square in the backside.

OLBERMANN: Loughner’s Internet trail, does it tell us anything about his politics? Does that specific reference to the 8th District, the Congresswoman’s district, does that step out of the incoherence or just part of the incoherence?

POTOK: Well you’re right that reading through all of his materials or the materials that are purported to be his he sounds quite mad… out of his mind. But there is a thread through the material that really seems pretty clear and that thread has to do with seeing the government as an enemy. The books you mentioned, there’s a theme that runs through all of them, particularly the Ayn Rand book; the idea of the individual against the state, but there are ideas, like the idea of the only legitimate currency being backed by gold instead of silver; that’s a core idea of the radical right in this country.

The idea weirdly enough of controlling grammar, of somehow the government using grammar to control the people is an idea that exists on the radical right. There’s a particular person, a man named David Wynn Miller who has plugged this idea for years. This man also talked quite a lot in these strange videos of his about what he called conscience dreaming but I think it’s almost certainly meant to be conscious dreaming which is an idea that also has been kind of tossed around on the radical right, in particular by a kind of British conspiracy theorist by the name of David Icke. So a lot of these ideas, his burning of the flag, his talking about the government as treasonous and using mind control to control the rest of us and so on, these are all ideas or kind of shards of ideas that exist very much on the radical right.

And then of course as the Pima sheriff said so dramatically and so truly I think, you know you add those kinds of ideas to just the amazing level of vitriol out there on the air waves and also in addition to what the sheriff said, coming from politicians, and it is not entirely surprising, you know, that someone like this acts out.

I would consider a few programs on MSNBC left of the current center, not left wing. Whether or not the shooter is left or right is a label someone else attached to him. Someone who may not even know the difference between left and right.

In the following article the Dems seek to outlaw threatening imagery against politicians or lawmakers. Clearly they view themselves as being targetted.
    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/01/dem-congressman-introduce-bill-banning-bullseye-crosshair-symbols/

The only people that targetted Giffords was Palin and the right.

Meanwhile conservatives know that they are guilty and being blamed and try to make light of the threats.
“Conservatives mocked warnings of violent extremism” a story on Raw.

Republican politicians know they are to blame and being blamed for this incitement so they urge the media to consider Palin an ass and try to instruct the media.
“GOP senator urges media not to talk about Palin’s rhetoric” another story on Raw.

Another Libertarian Republican Tea Partier comes to the defense of the Republicans and one of their main sources of funding.
“Rand Paul on shooting: ‘Weapons don’t kill people’ another story on Raw.

The Secret Service does statistics and is aware of when threats increase and their conlcusion is:
    “Secret Service blames Sarah Palin
Attacks on Obama’s patriotism led to death threats, agents say.”

    In summary:
The Dems feel they are under attack and seek to protect themselves. The Republicans know they are to blame and try to make light of it, mimimize Palin’s crazy talk, and come to the defense of their large contributors.

    Add it up.

Actually, they were out of the gate with their theories in 1994–fourteen years of failed economic policies and trying to get us to LOOK OVER THERE while they tried to dismantle the government in favor of big (pick_your_flavor: business, pharma, banking, religion).

And even still, Kansas doesn’t get that the people they choose to govern would sooner see their constituents burn if it meant reducing the bottom line.

  • Wombat Weatheraxe

Sorry ENZO, but the extreme rhetoric coming from the RIGHT only serves to inflame unstable personalities and drive them to commit acts of this sort. When you have Palin with her hit list and McCain with his suggestion that people reload, you can expect others to decide to act in such fashion. Further, I would hardly consider Mein Kampf and The Communist Manifesto LIBERAL Left Wing works. They are reactionary writings – and also served as calls to overthrow the existing social order. Nice try yourself.

I don’t buy into the rhetoric. I look at all points. I think the kid was totally disenchanted and had some mental deficiancy which caused this. Look at all the crap we put into our bodies, they are now thinking about taking all flouride out of our water supplies which they should as it was never meant for ingestion. These things and the toxic political landscape makes for strange bedfellows. I’m not pointing the finger at either side at this point as it makes it moot. Who cares which side he followed, what he did was morally wrong and should not be tolerated in any way. Some news sources show a “shrine” he had in his front yard, this had skulls and the likes, he was no right winger for that alone. Anyways we can always agree to disagree huh?

Nationalizing them would have been impossible. Congress would never allow it. It was logistically impossible. You have to deal with realities when looking for solutions.

Plus, if banks were nationalized, the National Bank would still have to buy the toxic assets and print more money to recapitalize the system. And that is still the taxpayer that pays.

I was not in favor of global collapse and chaos. I like having access to things like food and oil. And since Bank Nationalization was impossible, you had to recapitalize.

I thought this was a great clip from a guy who was in on the meetings, and whose political agenda would have been the opposite of the position he took. He just knew the consequences of not acting. It is also noted that the Bush Admin waited until the last minute to do the bailouts. They were praying all the nonsense would happen after the election.

I just watched Sarah Palin defended for her cross hairs map of the United States and commended for taking the map down from her website in honor of the victims of the AZ shooting… Now that’s fucked up. Too little, Too late. Even if Palin was not an influence on this guy, how long before she inspires a different nut?

For having the name wise turtle you sure aren’t wise. Obama has reinforced the patriot act and has passed just as many anti-freedom executive orders as bush ever did. Why do we need to go there? We have seen enough hatred this weekend, let’s let the hatred go for a while huh?

    Oh, Enzo.

Perhaps you were too busy with your crayons and Creationism Coloring Book when the teacher covered WWII. Or maybe you didn’t graduate the 8th grade…or were home-schooled by evanglelicals.

Just FYI, the driving ideology behind Mein Kampf is that Communism is the preeminent global threat, along with Judaism. Maybe you should read it (or have someone read it to you- there are some big words). In fact, I’m guessing you might actually like a lot of it based on your comments here.

But this notion that the killer is a left-wing nut job…well that dog just ain’t gonna hunt, as they say.

To wit: he killed a Democrat(!) in a carefully plotted assassination. Are you suggesting he did so because she wasn’t liberal enough?

    False Equivalecy…………
Only one side brings guns to political rallies. Only one side stomps on the heads of women. Only one side calls for “second ammendment” remedies when they don’t get their way on issues. Only one side has supporters that kill abortion doctors. And on and on and on. And now a beautiful 9 year old girl is dead becasue some lunatic “somehow” got it in his head that it’s ok to go on a rampage while attempting to assassinate a Democratic politician. One who was literally targeted by Sarah Palin, and who had her offices vandalized when health care reform was passed and whose most recent Republican congressional opponent held political rallies that featured target practice with automatic weapons.

A full scale demonization campaign against conservatives, free speech and the Second Amendment on behalf of Democrats and the establishment media in the wake of Saturday’s shootings has sensationally backfired after it emerged that gunman Jared Lee Loughner was a left-wing, pot-smoking liberal who was into dressing like the grim reaper and dabbling in the occult.

In their fervor to tear down the First and Second Amendments, Democrats and their allies in the corporate media hastily characterized Loughner as an anti-government right-winger in their rush to link him to the Tea Party and Sarah Palin, a connection that is still being invoked as Dems seek to rush through gun control legislation as well as a bill that could make criticism of government a form of hate speech.

However, precisely as forecast on his show last night, it has emerged this morning that Loughner is a devil-worshipper wannabe who idolized fake human skulls and dressed up like the grim reaper.

    So here’s a quiz for you…

“Anti-government” describes which of the following political ideologies best:
    - Tea Party
    - Progressive

Him knowing about the targets is not the point, its the fact that Palin has been tacitly endorsing a culture of violence in politics for many years now. She has heartily endorsed the use of violent themes and symbols in ideological debate. It was entirely predictable that such campaign tactics would have real world consequences, esp. in country with so many crazies and so many loose guns.

Is she legally responsible for the killings? No. But its a stretch to say she’s free of blame when considering the growing trend of violence against liberals by right-wing fascists.

Call us progressives sensitive, but we’ve had a lot of assassinations against our side- yours not so much. So either declare Civil War II on us already, or clean up or your act and get with the program of reasoned political debate and lawmaking.

I’d even throw Abraham Lincoln in there, since he was a progressive in the context of his era. I’m scratching the surface here with this list…and now Giffords.
