The Fox News Channel abruptly cut to commercial after a mourner attending a Tuscon, Arizona vigil for those killed in Saturday’s shootings mentioned Fox employee Sarah Palin as one of the culprits behind a rising tide of violent rhetoric in US politics and media.

As they awaited the beginning of a Pima County Sheriff’s Department press conference, Fox News host Shep Smith cued a live video from the vigil for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), who sustained a bullet wound to the head and was among a total of 19 shot in a sudden attack outside a grocery store.

At the vigil, which was carried live by some — including CNN’s website — a man stepped up to the microphone holding a candle and implored those in power to ask themselves why they actually want to be in such a position.

“And I say to you, Sarah Palin,” he began, just before Fox News abruptly cut the feed.

In video that seemed to be unavailable late Saturday, the man continued, calling for violent rhetoric in politics and the media to be toned down. His sentiment was seemingly echoed by Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik.

“I think it’s the vitriolic rhetoric that we hear day in and day out from people in the radio business and some people in the TV business and what we see on TV and how our youngsters are being raised, that … This has not become the nice United States that most of us grew up in, and I think it’s time that we do the soul searching,” he said.

“It’s not unusual for all public officials to get threats constantly, myself included,” Dupnik added. “That’s the sad thing about what’s going on in America: pretty soon we’re not going to be able to find reasonable decent people willing to subject themselves to serve in public office.”

Palin specifically came under heavy criticism not but hours after the shootings, when media began circulating a “target list” and website she circulated online, employing the imagery of a gun’s sights to mark 20 congressional districts with ostensibly “weak” Democratic incumbents. Giffords was among them.

She’d previously called for supporters to “reload,” and “take aim” at Democrats: language defended at the time by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). Giffords’ opponent in the 2010 mid-term elections similarly held political fundraisers at a gun range and encouraged supporters to help him “take her out” and fire M16 rifles.

    “A Blue-Dog Democrat with a pragmatic streak
Gabrielle Giffords is a moderate who has defied efforts to pigeonhole her views.”

This is a very sad and tragic event all of the leftists just want to use it for political gain. None of them care about her and that is terrible. The lunatic who shot her is an atheist, military recruit, lover of the Communist Manifesto, lover of Mein Kamp, obsessed with government mind-control programs, and other silliness according to his own youtube page. She is Pro-Second Amendment, Pro-Border Control, a former Republican turned Blue-Dog Democrat…yet the liberals are trying to paint a totally distorted picture to use this event for a new set of laws.
I am a libertarian-leaning type who likes Giffords, Dennis Kucinich, Ron Paul, and even some of the things that Bernie Sanders says so do not try to say I am a Neo-Con or Republiscum.

The things that FOX will do to cover up for their star hate-monger-in-chief. That was a stunning cut-away to avoid an embarrassing moment for their employee.

I have been beyond angry today at the tragedy in AZ.

I just read this comment by VanTykoon and broke down in sobs:

“Heartbreaking irony…this sweet little girl was born on the day of our most infamous terrorist attack; she died at the hands of a homegrown terrorist. I weep for the future of our children…”

    http://www.kvoa.com/news/9-yea…/
TUCSON – The identity of the 9-year-old tragically killed in this morning’s deadly rampage is Christina Taylor Greene.

Family says she was vibrant, excited about life, and she was the “best daughter in the world.”

Born on September 11, 2001, Greene was excited about the political process, was on the student government, and went to the Giffords event today to learn more about the political process, family members say.

Those who advocate violence, but never pay a price for doing so, must learn that Second Amendment solutions apply to them, too. Democrats should be seen in public with their own pistols in their hands, hire bodyguards, and say the names of those who brought our country to this point.

And decent people must get ready to shoot back. More violence is coming from cancervative christian patriots.

One must remember that Newt Gingrich became speaker of the House of Representatives in January 1995 following a vitriolic pre-midterms Republican smear campaign against President Clinton and Democrats in general the year before in 1994, with Gingrich becoming House speaker a few short months before Timothy McVeigh bombed the Murrah Federal Office :Building in Oklahoma City, killing close to 200 people, federal workers and visitors that were on-site at the time. And what did Newt Gingrich do as speaker, along with the Republicans in charge of House committees? They launched investigation after investigation into President Clinton’s administration, trying to find something, anything that would stick, that would lead to criminal charges against Democrats (and President Clinton), primarily as payback for Nixon getting caught, investigated and almost impeached, as well as payback for any Republicans involved in Watergate who got jail time. 1995 was the first year after Watergate that Republicans (in control of the House) could finally get revenge.

It is now sixteen years later. Notice the similarities between then and now? John Boehner just sworn-in last week as the new Republican speaker of the House of Representatives. Rep. Darryl Issa (R-CA) already planning on committee investigation after investigation into the Obama administration. And many of the issues from Clinton’s first two years in office being repeated in Obama’s first two years in office: health care reform, DADT, etc etc.

But I’d have to say that the Republican Party today is much more radicalized than in 1995, just as the Republican Party in 1995 was more radical than the Republican Party, in general, was during the Nixon years, much of this due to 1) Reagan getting rid of the Fairness Doctrine in the 1980s, 2) wealthy conservatives buying up media outlets (radio, television and print), making it possible for these new conservative owners to plant conservative propagandists throughout our news media, undermining the integrity of our nation’s First Amendment Fourth Estate, and 3) the recent “Citizens United” ruling by the Republican-dominated Supreme Court, making it possible for wealthy conservatives (including foreign conservatives) to spend unlimited, anonymous funds on smear campaigns against Democrats and even not-radical-enough moderate Republicans.

Result? Heightened levels of anti-government right-wing rhetoric leading to government officials and bystanders/visitors being killed (as in the Tucson Safeway parking lot today, as in Oklahoma City in 1995, as at the Holocaust Museum, as at the Austin IRS building, as in other incidents, but especially over the past two years since Obama became president, as right-wing “Death Panel” anti-government rhetoric was ginned up to the boiling point, to the breaking point, to the killing point, ramping up the paranoia on the right, feeding the fear, with facts and common sense being drowned out, as INTENTIONAL disinformation and misinformation was spread in an INTENTIONAL win-at-any-cost right-wing propaganda campaign, one using every right-wing “talking points” media outlet (radio, television, print and the internet). IOW, a repeat before the 2010 mid-terms of the 2002/2003 “catapulting the propaganda” period before the start of the Iraq War, a disingenuous Republican tactic that keeps “working,” and keeps getting people targeted for elimination, a character assassination tactic that often leads to actual assassinations or attempted assassinations (or death threats or terrorist letters being mailed containing powder).

Will Republicans tone it down? Will Faux News’ Roger Ailes? O’Reilly? Hannity? Beck? Sammons? Will Rupert Murdoch and News Corp step up to the plate and order the talking heads/producers at Faux to stick to the facts and stop spouting outright vitriol or deceptive right-wing talking points? Will Frank Luntz, Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin, and so many other Republicans, stop feeding this uncontrollable conservative beast? Will they choose peace over war? Will they choose truth over lies/spin? And with many of these Republicans purporting to be Christian and claiming America is a Christian nation, will they choose Christ over the anti-Christ? We will soon find out. Either these Republicans will accept responsibility for poisoning our nation’s discourse or they, like they’ve done before, will try to spin it that Democrats are responsible for what happened today in that Tucson Safeway parking lot, that only if all Democrats were “beaten over the head with a baseball bat” or eliminated, then our society would be better off, one dead Democrat piled on top of another dead Democrat, with triumphant Republicans standing on top of the pile of dead Democrats…because, you see, this is what these Republicans have really been advocating, propagandizing for years to happen. And yet, this growing pile of dead or injured Democrats includes dead or injured Republican appointees (federal judge John Roll), Republicans working as public servants (policeman, fireman, etc.) and a growing number of children with no political affiliation (the 9-year-old girl killed in the Tucson Safeway parking lot today, the children in day care or visiting at the Murrah Office Building in 1995). Enough is enough!!!!

(Well, we now know how Faux News is going to respond to this Republican-spawned tragedy in Tucson).

At a time like this it is sad that you are revving up the discord. The fingers DO need to be pointed at the people in politics and the media who have created a climate of hatred based on lies and disrespect for the democratic process that has served us well for decades.
Sarah Palin with her crosshairs map will never be able to erase it, and we didn’t make it up, it exists, FOX and all their hateful pundits should wear the letter K for KKK for all their disgusting twisting of facts and smearing of decent politicians like Alan Grayson and Wexler and many others, and helped to replace them with unqualified, some literally criminal as in the Governor of Florida Rick Scott, or Tim Griffin in Arkansas.

Time to “reload” our humanity and sanity.

I don’t agree that we all should arm ourselves with 2nd Amendment thinking, we definitely should start holding accountable media pundits who use OUR airways to foment hatred and spread lies and misinformation.

How many liberals in New York can be rounded up to protest everyday, day on end in front of Fox? Walking by the windows with picket signs and mega phones when the three puppets are doing their morning show, day in day out, in shifts screaming Bill O’reilly is a murder, Glen Beck is a domestic terrorist, Sarah Palins a whore/fraud, Hannity is fascist etc.. We can get creative and get a Drag Queen to swear they are Beck/Hannity/O’rielly ‘s love interest. We have to understand what the rules are, there are no rules. We’ll set a date and do a million citizen march on New York Fox studio in the spring. Let them stew between now and then. Watch the paranoia and hilarity ensue. We’ll do to them what they promoted the teabaggers to do to us. Lets run their asses south of the Mason Dixon line where they belong. I really like Stewart and Colbert but how did that feel good fest work out? Screw Arianna Huffington and her people magazine blog and her gratuitous bus rides. This folks is something we have to do on our own. Come spring pack our camping gear, make sure are medicine day planners are filled and hit 30 east.

Hate in politics is nothing new.It goes back almost to the formation of political parties themselves. The trend though in the past twenty years has been campaigning with increased amounts of hate. This incident today is the culmination of that trend.Who’s to blame? The parties themselves, failed candidates, attention seekers and of course the media. The shooter is a highly disturbed individual. One look at his social pages will show you that.Did the media help push him over the edge, more than likely but we won’t know that for a while yet. What I do find odd is the federal judge who was killed was under a protection order due to previous threats.Yet in a state with liberal gun laws,NOBODY had a weapon to shoot back with.
Too bad this had to happen and it will always be a black day in our history.Hopefully the hateful political presence and Fox will tone it down.

Republicans have supported all the conditions that make this event possible. More than support it, they have glorified it, and put small-minded rhetoric over America for a long time now.

I plan to rub right wing faces in their own mess every chance I get because truly what conservatism today stands for is, at every single point, destructive for the future of this country.

In fact I do not hesitate to use the word Evil, for all the misguided, ignorant, myopic, isolationist, cruel, self-serving, corrupt, bigoted, violent, earth raping, wealth glorifying and poverty creating ideals that I have had to live under with you horrific people. Evil.

For all the flag wrapping and god preaching you represent, you create the opposite, which is death, hopelessness and despair. Evil.

I am not some caricature of a hippie, but a middle-class, middle aged man with a family who works 12 hours a day and believes in values, responsibility, respect, honor, and truth.

Yet you have made me want to leave this country and go someplace where life is actually valued, art and culture, society, health, children and rewards for our labors are actually part of the daily existence.

Those ideals fuel most of the world and yet we remain a wasteland of strip malls, poverty, violent extremism and ignorance, all draped in the flag. The flag is empty when Evil people like you make ordinary Americans despair at ever being able to live a decent, working, plain life. Just Evil.

Makkah is the Most Holy, Revered & Sacred place for the billions of Muslims around the world. Any Negative analogy to Makkah In a demeaning & derogatory form is EXTREMELY HURTFUL & PAINFUL for ALLLLL the Muslims! Your reference to “leftists” in general belies your claim to “like” liberal or libertarian politicians. We don’t know enough about the shooter to know what he really thinks. All we know about his attitude toward Mein Kampf or the Communist Manifesto is that they’re on his MySpace book list (and if he wrote it on his social networking profile, it must be true, right?). What we do know is that you can’t “love” both those works! The fact that you think that’s even possible indicates your right-wing-based ignorance.

I’ll say it…. You are a Rightwing Troll, who spouts the EXACT talking points that have been posted on MULTIPLE rightwing HATE SITES….

Anyone notice how most “self professed Libertarian Leaning Types” have been morphing into Republicans over the last few years? These “Libertarian Types” would vote Republican in a second if they thought their Candidate won’t (or can’t) win…

Makkah is the Most Holy, Revered & Sacred place for the billions of Muslims around the world. Any Negative analogy to Makkah In a demeaning & derogatory form is EXTREMELY HURTFUL & PAINFUL for ALLLLL the Muslims! Sooo, pleaseee STOP using phrases like “Makkah of prejudice & bigotry” as in this video OR “Makkah of gambling” etc etc etc.

Muslims from all over the world gooo there just to pray {day and night} to one God~~~leaving their family behind & taking time off from their work{between two ~six weeks} ~~~to fulfill THIS ONCE in a LIFE TIME obligation. Often, people wait a life time to be able to do so!

Comparing it to VULGAR actions is INDEED very very CRASS!

It is EXTREMELY ASTONISHING when it comes out of the mouths of the so~called educated leaders & heads of different organizations!!!

    Learn some DECENCY folksSS!!!

I have a Question~~~ WHYYY HAVEn’t I heard any one say ” Vatican of Thieves or Liars?” ~~~~~~~~ehhhhhhhhhh!!!

Fox news does have the right to try to defend themselves from implications. GOOD LUCK on that, Fox. It’s doubtful you’ll be counted blameless for pursuing Mrs. Palin the loose cannon as one of your features considering the vast experience you have in broadcasting. Seems with your lineup of loose cannons Fox News.

To those owning stock in this circus; you might consider liquidating said assets, and moving on to something else if it’s not too late. If not in justifiable protest, you know by now, you’re going to lose don’t you? This is one investment that has run well past its course.

Dear Salmi1, I apologize for those comments. I have made some crass comments myself about Mecca….Makkah, in the past (not lately, but I am guilty). I will never do it again. It was grossly obtuse and ignorant of me, I was wrong and at least you should know it. I am basically no one in this vast dimension of life, but hope my apology can make some small difference to your journey in this life.

Matt.12:36 Ye may perhaps think, God does not so much regard your words. But I say to you – That not for blasphemous and profane words only, but for every idle word which men shall speak – For want of seriousness or caution; for every discourse which is not conducive to the glory of God, they shall give account in the day of judgment.

    ^ direct quote from Christ.

‘That may be free speech, but it’s not without consequences’, indeed! I’m glad to hear someone say just that and it needs to be put square in the laps of people who use such allegorical language as lock and whatever it is they say. The right has gotten away with nitpicking every nuance of progressivism without opposition, even going so far as to imply dissent is tantamount to treason, a crime we all know is punishable by death. Why, therefore can’t what they say be viewed as inciting people to actually commit murder when others should be murdered just for what they believe or who they work for?

As far as I’m concerned, you should only be offended if someone who shares your belief makes such a reference. You live in a world with many, many, many different belief systems. You cannot expect to enforce your ideas of being offended on those who do not share your belief system and thereby mean no offense by their references. It’s pretty common to use the word Mecca in this manner, whether saying a “mecca” for something good or evil. Were you offended in the early 60s when Gene Pitney cut a record called “Mecca” which contained these lyrics:

“‘Cause that brownstone house where my baby lives is Mecca, It’s Mecca to me”

If you want to revere “Makkah” and think of it as “most holy”, by all means do so with gusto and freedom but don’t expect me to do the same. And I’ll be happy to use the phrase Vatican of Thieves and Liars. I go one further and say the Vatican is full of Liars and Pedophiles. Are you less offended now?

fox news ought a be ashamed

but i know there’s no shame on that far right end

and palin should be fired, along with a lot of other hate and violence mongers on tv and on the radio (all broadcasting is publically licensed, supposedly to be for the “public good”) – but you know no one will get the axe over what they say because the right wing wurlitzer IS the media narrative in america…..

I guess this shows that FOX news wanted her dead. I just wonder who else FOX news wants to be shot and just how high up they want that killing to go? They apparently don’t care just as long as they protect their own. Would they have cut away if she had been a republican? The answer is of course, no, they would have re-run the piece over and over. What do they have to hide?

You couldn’t be more wrong about this. Saying none cared about her is your bullshit. The hateful rhetoric of Sarah Palin, Glen Beck and others has reached a level of vitriol and corrosive anger that has never been sustained at this level. The constant use of coded language, lock and load for example helps this happen. I don’t know what law you could possibly pass to stop this other than effective gun control and it seems by your blanket statement that “the liberals are trying to paint a totally distorted picture to use this event for a new set of laws.” you are too locked into your fantasy world to ever want that to happen.

In the film clip of a question and answer with MSNBC after her office was vandalized following the health care vote, Giffords specifically mentioned the Palin targeting of her with the gun sights and said that such rhetoric had “consequences” and the so-called “liberal” Chuck Todd pooh-poohed her comments and retorted that “war and politics” had traditionally used the same symbolism.

The only good thing I can say about MSNBC at this point is that they had the gumption to run the full clip several times in its entirety yesterday. I think that Todd and the rest of the media stooges that have supported Palin either through this kind of what’s she’s doing is nothing that others haven’t done–the only other people who have used such violent images and rhetoric in recent memory have been the abortion activists–or the everybody does it cover that was given by Todd should be taken in for some retraining or fired if they can’t learn what their job entails.

My sense of who Chuck Todd is was formed a while ago, but this clip which I had never seen since it occurred during the day, was confirmation of all I suspected. He’s scum.

But further he is only part of an even bigger problem an it isn’t only the Fox Entertainment Channel that has helped poison the rhetoric of politics. We need to do something in this country about content. There is no freedom that is enshrined in the Constitution that is absolute. An the freedom to say anything or use violent inducing rhetoric such as Palin did when he said “lock and reload” and uploaded her own “Project Rescue” style targeting symbols should not have been excused and should never have been supported by any broadcaster’s anywhere.

Rupert Murdoch and his hate channel should be put out of business or given strict guidelines as to what can and cannot be said on television. We can’t see commercials that spoofs a Visa commercial, and we if there is a “wardrobe malfunction” that exposes some part of the human anatomy, the people and the network involved are heavily fined, but we have a television network/channel that pumps hate and propaganda nearly 24 hours a day and declared in court that such hate was not “news” but “entertainment” and the federal judge hearing the case agreed.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) better start doing their job and they better get a little bit stricter on what people can and cannot say on television. If it is against the law to call for the assassination of the president of the United States, then it should be against the law to call for or incite violence against ALL elected officials. Is the president’s life really any more valuable or special than that of any other elected official in this country? Is that the message we should be sending in a land where we are all “equal”? I think this legal distinction alone puts the lie to that statement. It’s high time that we go from the Constitution to the Declaration of Independence and look again as the line about “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” and see where hate speech fits in with that formula. If it doesn’t seem to fit there is probably a reason and maybe such speech should be given much tighter scrutiny. There are no absolute freedoms.

I find the west making fun of Hindu holy men to be offensive. Placing bibles in buckets of urine is also pretty nasty. Derogatory statements and misconceptions of Buddhism are widespread.
It is a shame some have so little regard for what is sacred to others.

What is important to me are my thoughts and actions despite the crassness of the larger world.

You have raised a good point concerning the vatican and what the vati can’t. What the vatican’t is control the mouths of protestants and that’s what most tea-beggars are fundamentalist tea-beggars. Just as most of us can’t distinguish amoung Sunni, Shia, Sufi, etc. — you can’t distinguish amoung baptists, methodists, pentecostals, etc. In the case of the classification of each type of religion you advocate the elimination of the other, claiming each of you in turn is the annointed holy order of belief and worship.

Well you’re both wrong. There is no god; it’s only Physics and you’re confused because you are both too lazy to study Physics, and therefore rely upon the convenient fiction of religeon to explain phenomena and anomalies of weather, geology, biology – birth, life and death of humans and species as well as excuse profligate extraction of resources from the planet’s physique.

A pox on all houses of religion.

Bye, bye you dimwitted twitted twat!

    What’s your next move???
Are you then going to throw your kids in the limelight now, in hoping that they can either run for an office or perhaps clean up the mess that you made? Is Bristol going to appear in another show, so that you can show off your stupid, ignorant ass?
If so, this shows that you are a self centered and egotistical pig (w/lipstick)!

    WAIT… I have an IDEA:
Maybe YOU could appear on DWTS, so we can see you trip and fall. That would be comical! Think of the ratings?! Maybe your supporters (jockstraps) will feel “Sorry for you”?
Show a little leg and beaver and who knows…? Just food for thought.

Bye, bye you dimwitted twitted twat!

Your ‘Reality Show’ is NOT being picked up…Your time in the limelight is OVER mama sleazy or pit bull(shit) w/lipDICK (whatever you want to be labeled as), and NOW, FAUX NOISE may see their ratings plummet because of your stupidity, thus, hopefully cancel your slot of bullcrap dished out here!

A despicable action, but I hardly expect FOX to report fairly at this point. I’m sure they will find someway to make Palin a victim to their viewers by reporting threats or unjust persucation of her and her spawn.

You sir are far from accurate in your attack on nainstream liberal support. Ms.Giffords received massive support from the Democratic hierarchy. She voted her district and represented a liberal view to her district. That she ‘didn’t toe the line’ is an inaccurate and misleading statement. Several Democrats voted their districts and represented liberalism to their district. An excellent example of the impact of your misleading commentary would be Ken Lucas of KY-4. Mr.Lucas voted the district, represented liberal values and positions back to the district, but ideological purists attacked him and the district is now represented by the most unethical republican’t in the House, another Jefferson Davis. Although it is now spelled Geofferson [excuse my hyperbole; I'm only being another tea-beggar with my vitriolic rhetoric] Davis.
If, as you say, you are a Lib, please leave our laundry out of your messages. We have enough disharmony without your contribution.

After all, it’s the Democratic Party and only the Democratic Party that can deliver a two party system within its own house: Demo-crats and Demi-crats.

  • DesertSun59

Within the next 10 days, Fox News will double down on the rhetoric. The Right doesn’t back away from violent intent. They simply pound down those who oppose their violent speech.

  • http://twitter.com/hollywoodnc1 Bruce M.McLaughlin

I tweeted this very question yesterday:

“Should @SarahPalinUSA be held personally accountable for the attempted murder of Congresswoman #Giffords and the murder of others? RT AGREE”

I truly believe that she should also. Isn’t this (in the LEAST) inciting violence?
    A more HARSHER accusation:
An accessory to Murder and attempted murder.

  • DesertSun59

Yep, a very important news segment on Fox will be produced shortly that will ‘prove’ that Palin is the victim in all of this.

  • DesertSun59

Won’t happen. Fox will be producing important news stories that show how the Right is the victim in this situation.

  • DesertSun59

Won’t happen. Don’t forget. She has Fox News resources at her disposal. There are far too many elected officials that hang their hat on her celebrity. They can’t throw her out yet. She’s far too important and makes far too much money. She will be vindicated very shortly and her political career will skyrocket.

As of my comment, you have 11 Likes. That’s great.

But the FCC is not in business to target an entire news org – one that’s privately owned and has its political thumbs firmly in the an*ses of dozens of elected officials; and that makes tens of millions for politicians on the Right.

Regardless of whether Fox is going to be blasted by the Left over the next several days, as is Sarah Palin, both Fox and Palin will be totally and completely exonerated. 100%. Then it will blow over.

Look at the political history of the US. Every time the Right is caught, they go away for a short period of time to stay out of the limelight. Then, they come back smelling like a rose. Each and every time. Oliver North. Rick Scott. Mark Foley. David Vitter. John Ensign. Name the person who got caught doing something criminal and you will find them on a reality show or suddenly once again running a campaign for re-election, or as your new and improved elected official.

Sarah Palin will make her required statement and Fox will tell their Fox Nation how wonderful she is. Sarah Palin will talk glowingly about Fox News and their viewers will know in their hearts that her words are golden.

Hate speech is ingrained in the Right. They can’t help themselves. They won’t stop and they can’t stop.

And, sadly, the Left is so fractured that they can’t create a unified message that counters their hatred, their vitriol or their desperate need to vilify ‘the other’. So, while I applaud your effort to be reasonable about how the FCC might be involved, they will sidestep this issue like they ALWAYS do.

Rupert Murdoch is laughing so hard right now that tears are streaming down to his blubbery belly. He knows that he has a perfect forum to air whatever kind of garbage he wants to air. Don’t be surprised to see him on a segment, sounding avuncular, and telling the nation that if it weren’t for Fox, you wouldn’t have the news you need.

  • ghostof911

Anyone with any curiousity about history would have read Mein Kempf and the Communist Manifesto. Since when does reading something make one a lunatic and a lover of the ideology covered in the book?

Do you in fact know that the shooter was not in fact a subject in a mind-control experiment? He attempted to enlist and was turned down, but the military had a record on him as one who would be susceptible to a mind-control experiment. If you have any curiousity, you’ll learn that the military actually does conduct those types of experiments.

Thanks for mentioning Bob Wexler. I was deeply disappointed when he announced his retirement. Speaking of Alan Grayson, here’s the note he just sent out about Gifford.

A reporter called me a little while ago, and told me that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords had been shot at a public event. She is in critical condition.

I’m going to let others comment on what this means for America. I just want to say what it means to me.

Gabrielle Giffords and I served together on the House Committee on Science and Technology. She was the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics, and I was a member of that subcommittee. Her D.C. office was one floor above mine.

I saw Gabby dozens, if not hundreds of times, during our two years together. And nearly every time that I can remember, she was smiling.

Gabby is one of the most cheerful, charming and engaging people I have ever known. She’s always looking on the bright side. She has something good to say about pretty much everyone. Bad news never lays a glove on her. She loves life, and all the people in it.

No matter what is going on in your life, after fifteen minutes with Gabby, you’ll feel that you can touch the stars.

Everyone knew that Gabby would have a tough race in 2010. (She actually won with 49% of the vote.) But I always thought that if each of her constituents could spend that fifteen minutes with her, and see what she is really like, then she would win with 99.9% of the vote. (Same thing about Harry Teague of New Mexico, who lost, and a few others that I could name.) You would want her as your Congressman, because you would want her as your friend.

I know nothing about the man who shot Gabby, and what was going through his mind when he did this. But I will tell you this – if he shot Gabby out of hatred, then it wasn’t Gabby he was shooting, but rather some cartoon version of her, drawn by her political opposition. Because there is no way – NO WAY – that anyone who really knows Gabby could hate her or hurt her. She is a kind, gentle soul.

My heart goes out to Mark Kelly, Gabby’s husband, and the many, many people who love her. Gabby, we don’t want to lose you. Please stay here with us.

    Alan Grayson

The shooter was “anti-government” I hear. I wonder where he got that idea…

Ronald Reagan: “Government’s not the solution to our problems, it is the problem.” or “most terrifying words in the English language are ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’

I wonder who would encourage anti government violence…. Our own president being anti government. Sounds kinda treasonous to me….

I worship in the church of unbelievers and I echo what you say. However, there are a few gems hidden in the blather of the “sacred book,” one of the which is called the 8 beatitudes. Clearly, none of these apply to any of the FAUXtards.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

    Blessed are they who mourn,
    for they shall be comforted.

    Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they shall be satisfied.

    Blessed are the merciful,
    for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
    for they shall see God.

    Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

She will keep a low profile until her puppeteers can work out a plan.
They have invested too much in Palin to cut her loose yet.

I expect all the vilification aimed at Palin, will allow her image makers to cast her as a persecuted martyr. “Look at how the ruthless democrats have turned on poor Sarah”
It’s all theatre. Sad isn’t it.

This poor boy looks like a friend for my sons. It’s sad that our nation has come to this. There ARE mental health issues in our country that we CHOOSE to ignore. That Beckerheads, and Limpballers add to the problem is a no-brainer. I have great empathy for the fallen, no doubt. I’m embarrassed as a citizen for what has just happened. I hope the “talk show” hosts “calm down the negative, “anti”, talk for a MONTH (hey the mexican drug dealers did it) and just act like AMERICAN citizens.

  • Anthony Wayne Walker

The mistake Clinton made was not going after the crooks in the Reagan/Bush administrations, Iran/Contra, Reagan reps secret meetings with Iran over the hostages before the elections etc.. If Clinton would have moved on cleaning that mess up he wouldn’t of had half the problems he had. Clinton had a “lets move forward, forgive and forget, lets work together” attitude too, just like Obama. Just imagine if Obama cleaned up the messes of Bush/Cheney, gone after the war criminals, the Halibuton deals etc.. Starting with the Nixon administration how many of the same actors were involved with all these scandals? If your not throwing punches, your taking them.

  • Taleisin

‘Chuck Todd pooh-poohed her comments and retorted that “war and politics” had traditionally used the same symbolism. ‘

So when Winston Churchill said, ‘ We will fight them on the beaches,’ he could use the same speech in the context of an election. PIg’s Ass!

If the american public looked beyond their own llittle fishpond they might notice how much crap their politicians say. And it sticks in the culture like a chicken bone in the throat.

Dumya may no longer be president but the concept of ‘you are for us or against us’ is now an accepted part of political culture in US. I have no doubt this kind of rhetoric will escalate. Did the repukes change their attitudes after chanting ‘chop his head off’ during the presidential election? It should have been called to a halt then.

America put the Repukes back into the senate. It will be a long time before they consider changing their ways. Pity.

The FCC cannot go after the “Network” but you as a citizen can impede the license renewals of the Fox owned Radio and Television stations.

Google “Petition to Deny a Broadcast License Renewal”

Nothing scares a corporation worse than the loss of a broadcast license. Without a license to broadcast a multi-million dollar facility becomes worth the price of the equipment in other words pennies on the dollar.

Fox owns 27 US Television stations under license by the FCC.
That is a sizable chunk of assets to go after.

Why the United States can’t ever sign on to outlaw land mines. Is any of us outraged at this? I can’t hear you!

While the blame may not be theirs, though they did incite violence. Republican Sharon Angle called for “Second amendment solutions”, again not directly responsible. But we must take into account that these pimps of hate, Beck Limbaugh, Palin, and Angle, put these ideas out there. Over the public airwaves. And as I can tell, no one is actually blaming them. They didn’t pull the trigger, obviously it isn’t their fault.

This poor boy? Are you serious? Sen. Kyle (Douchebag-AZ) just said on Face the Nation that he doesn’t think ‘we’ should ‘jump to conclusions’ about this obviously mentally ill and deranged person. , and that he didn’t believe it had anything to do with the vitriolic language of political figures. Still waiting for the next Repub to say the words “both sides do it,” which is of course bullshit. How is it Sister Sarah hasn’t yet tweeted her excuse that ‘no one could have known that using crosshairs to target 20 Democrats to be taken out would be a signal to some supporters to do just that’? So that the message was clear, “don’t retreat, reload” helped to clarify the exact nature of the ad. Try as she might, this image and slogan will not disappear, and I hope she has to confront it at every book-signing and public event she attends.

I think your suggestion has merit, however, adding the words ‘right-wing’ or ‘Republican’ before “talk show” hosts would clarify that both sides DON’T do this. We all know who does it. Start with Faux Snooze and work down from there. And don’t forget to include current and former Congress members. Are you listening Bachman, McCain, Kyl, Armey, and the rest of you deranged Baggers? Almost forgot Sharron ‘Second Amendment Solutions’ Angle — have we heard her excuse yet?

  • Anonymous

Sure. Try to muddy the waters so it doesn’t seem like a right wing extremism problem. Of course our country is fucked. The rule of law has been irreversibly contaminated, first by Cheney and now by Obama for not holding Cheney accountable. The US is a greedy warmongering institution. But this terrible event is most closely related to political right wing extremism.

  • Anonymous

Agreed. It should be exposed for the lying, propaganda piece of shit that it is. And Dems should show it for that and stay on message. But we should avoid using violent language in that message.

  • Anonymous

Our society needs to start taking responsibility for its support of reckless and immature individuals. The most egregious leaders in human history would have been virtually powerless without their supporters. If enough people in our society patronize those who support violent rhetoric, we will end up with, guess what? Violence.

  • LeftCoastLeftie

But she always wanted fame — how bout it Sarah? Feel famous enough now? Gonna send an autographed book to the victims? Go ahead, use your famous motto: “Don’t retreat – reload.” Then tell us about how you and Taaaahd are praying for them. Praying for them not to sue. You worthless POS, this is directly on your head.

Hope that wasn’t too vitriolic, i don’t want Faux News to offer me a broadcasting job !!

Laws DO exist to define the behavior of right wing media hate talkers under the general title of “inciting to violence.” People HAVE been prosecuted and convicted on these federal laws. US AG Holder continues to look the other way as the hate talkers ramp up their rhetoric. Now we have the shooting of a Democratic Congresswoman and the deaths of others, including a federal judge, as part of a culture of “hating liberals” perpetuated by Limbaugh, radio wingnuts, and the Fascist News Channel.

One of Obama’s failures as president is to ignore the Rule of Law for political gain. That’s what’s happening, and that’s what’s helped paint the political landscape as lawless.

LW that’s not exactly true. During the Beck boycott the advertisers that bailed on the show were replaced by “Gold Sharks” which by the way added to Beck’s paycheck with his paid personal endorsements fee.

Advertising agencies in general only buy based on a cost per point ratio based on the ratings system and would not know the difference between Beck and Lassie. (Both are bitches by the way…except Lassie was smarter)

  • Anonymous

    Exactly.
It is obvious how the rhetoric from right wingnut media is directly at fault here.
All the bullcrap that “both sides” need to calm down is just the beginning of the right wing media spin.

Soon Fox will make Palin the victim of this right wingnut terror event.

  • Eyeball_Kid

When the investigations of this “poor boy” and his background emerge, we’ll find that he is a a regular listener to right wing radio and/or Fascist News Channels rhetoric. Over the last 30 years or so the vast majority of hate speech has come from the right. Actually that is to be expected… because it gets them votes and makes them rich… Rush, Hannity, O’Lielly, Beck & shrill politicians like Tancredo, Palin, Crazy Eyes, Gohmert & King are just a part of the real problem. Worse than them… by far… are the so-called serious politicians and ‘journalists’ who fail to call out hate speech for what it is. Howard Kurtz is mostly right when he says Palin should not be at fault. Palin is just a clueless media whore getting rich off fear. People like Kurtz are much worse because they don’t expose her for what she is, let her get away with ‘bullseye’ metaphors and defend her actions. How does Angle’s ’2nd Amendment remedies’ talk look now? Fox News [sic] is despicable but where is CNN, ABC, PBS, NBC & CBS at calling out their misinformation, outright lies and violet rhetoric? I expect crazy people like this sicko in AZ to do crazy things. I expect Rush, Palin & Fox to lie, obfuscate and push violent rhetoric. But I foolishly expected serious media to call them out on it. People have free speech but they should also be held accountable for what the say and espouse. Some of you will remember how long it took for the media and main-stream politicians to stand up to Tail-Gunner Joe McCarthy. Same damn thing here.

Agree, the left is fractured due to lack of leadership. The current dem leadership is bought and paid for, and the people who know better want nothing to do with them. There is no need to become authoritarian like the reich-wing, but there is need to call out the anti-american forces in our country. Like fox news. For the trolls who are trying to make this out as a “delusional misguided nut” or even a “liberal”, it should be noted that he expressly targeted these individuals in an apparently premeditated, mass-murder event in which he **called out the names of the victims as he fired on each of them**. Now where might he have have obtained those names?

Very good FUX, the Conservative Corporate STATE controlled mouthpiece of the GOTEAdiot party. It will be the model of the Corporate States of America in a year or so. At least, on “Face the Nation” (CBS), they went to great lengths to display and discuss good woman Sarah’s Contract on America’s Progressives, Gunsight Guide to Assassination’s “Top Ten” charts. They even aired Ms. Gillford’s very insightful comment in front of the Capitol on this very issue. Declaring the shooter “insane” is just another tactic to allay suspicion and deflect blame the young man was a total TEAdiot nut job.

Land mines are a necessary defensive structure. Soldiers capture and pacify
an area. To move on and safely secure the civilians, mine the area outside
the tillable boundaries. Otherwise we would need so many more soldiers we
would be unable to support a civilian society.

Thanks Emi, I’ve not had a really good opening to deliver a truth, an

This morning on “Face the Nation” CBS did do a very good focus on Palin’s gunsight chart of the top 20 target senators etc. They even had the very video segment when Ms. Giffords’s very poigniant and forseeing comment was presented in front of the nation’s Capitol. You’re right, the media have been too forgiving of the Rad Right’s deluge of hate speech, hopefully up til now, but it will still be “neutral” from here on, don’t want to upset the crazys out there..

Everything he has done with his media empire in the USA has been to undermine the tradition of civilized political discourse. He has demonstrated contempt for the views of the majority of American citizens and specialized in inciting, rousing and enabling extreme right wing fanatics to have a voice way out of proportion to their standing in our culture. This is not a free speech issue but one of fairness and balance. Also the Koch brothers (founders and financier of the Tea Party) should be brought to task for their part in laying the groundwork for this environment. It should be noted that their own father was the founder and financier of the John Birch Society. These individuals while profiting enormously from the opportunities afforded them in the USA are doing everything they can to monopolize these benefits for themselves by their influence on the political discourse in this country. In addition to the Communist Manifesto, the accused shooter also had Hitler’s Mein Kampf on his list of books, proof he was reading all over the political spectrum. One needs to read the opposition’s view to attack it, and at this point it is not clear exactly WHAT his politics were. But the right attacks first, finds out the facts later (and rarely retracts).

As Robert De Niro’s character said in the movie “Wag The Dog,” “Now we’re getting somewhere.” Yesterday it was reported in at least one story I read that Gabrielle Giffords was Jewish and was married in a synagogue. At that time I wondered if her Jewishness might have played a role in the shooting then but I didn’t write anything about it at that point, partly because of the other issues involve and partly because I had also read a story that said that the alleged shooter did not appear to belong to any hate groups.

Today we have this story from the Huffington Post which begins to shoot holes in both those earlier claim. It appears that in fact this person was somehow connected to at least one or possibly two antisemitic hate groups.

“WASHINGTON — Jared Lee Loughner, the alleged shooter of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and others on Saturday, may have ties to anti-Semitic, anti-immigration hate group American Renaissance, according to a leaked memo from the Department of Homeland Security.

It’s unclear whether Loughner maintains a direct connection to the group, however, “strong suspicion is being directed” at American Renaissance in the wake of the group being referenced in Loughner’s Myspace and YouTube videos, according to the memo, which was obtained by Fox News.

American Renaissance is a white nationalist group that operates under a pseudo think tank called the New Century Foundation. The group runs a magazine and conferences based on eugenics and the superiority of whites, according to Southern Poverty Law Center.”

Does it matter in this discussion if Democrats are guilty of that which they accuses Palin of doing? The Democratic Leadership Council published an election document, which was complete with a map, crosshairs, and talk of targeting. See http://www.dlc.org/ndol_ci.cfm?kaid=127&subid=171&contentid=253055
If Durbin were not a hypocrite he would be calling out the DLC for this, or calling out Alan Grayson for saying Republicans wanted people to die, or calling out union boss Trumka whose “associates” have actually committed violence and murder (see http://michellemalkin.com/2010/09/03/big-labors-legacy-of-violence/).
Durbin isn’t seeking to dial down the rhetoric; he is seeking to silence the TEA Party which has become an effective political counterweight to the liberal agenda. This hack is using a tragedy for naked political purposes, and that makes him a loser of the first order.

Who stands to gain by spreading distrust of government ? Remember Sarah Paylin has been given a huge megaphone (and money) to spew her distortions and clearly violent rhetoric against the government.

As long as people do not trust government the easier it is for mega corporations to shift the control and privatize our commons. This is what is behind the right wing media support of hate speech and anti-government violence.

Paylin is now in her own crosshairs for using the words she used but let’s not forget that Beck, O’Reilly, Hannity, Rush have all done the very same thing and are responsible as well for echoing the message “that government is incompetent, evil, and coming to get you … to take your homes and let you die without health care” …. the truth is … that happens when greedy corporations infiltrate government … break it and use it to increase their profits.

The real tea party was about stopping corporate influence in government. Todays tea baggers are manipulated buy the most sophisticated propaganda media system the world has never known. “Unfortunately for you caribou-hunting fans, there’s only bummer news to report (for now). EW did its due diligence and discovered there are no plans to send uber-producer Mark Burnett back to Wasilla with Palin, who’s lured an averaged 3.2 million viewers to TLC with her show. So this Sunday’s two-hour finale of Sarah Palin’s Alaska appears to be its last.”

“The only way this will stop is to shut down the hate monger’s microphones. Murdock, Fox and Company own Radio and TV stations in addition to the network. These broadcast facilities are licensed and subject to renewal by the FCC in accordance with the following directive:

“Before we can renew a station’s license, we must first determine whether, during the preceding license term, the licensee has served the public interest; has not committed any serious violations of the Communications Act or the FCC’s rules; and has not committed other violations” which, taken together, would constitute a pattern of abuse.

If you want to stop this madness here’s how you can do it:
“The Manual also outlines how you can become involved in assessing whether your local stations are complying with the FCC’s rules and meeting these service obligations, and what you can do if you believe that they are not. In exchange for obtaining a valuable license to operate a broadcast station using the public airwaves, each radio and television licensee is required by law to operate its station in the “public interest, convenience and necessity.” This means that it must air programming that is responsive to the needs and problems of its local community of license. To do so, each station licensee must affirmatively identify those needs and problems and then specifically treat those local matters that it deems to be significant in the news, public affairs, political and other programming that it airs. As discussed at page 29 of this Manual, each station must provide the public with information about how it has met this obligation by means of quarterly reports, which contain a listing of the programming that it has aired that the licensee believes provided significant treatment of issues facing the community.

Boycotts don’t work, but you can make change by challenging a licensee’s fitness to hold said license. Every radio and Television station is required to have available for inspection by anyone of the general public during regular business hours a file commonly called the public file which lists all of the items a station has done to fulfill it’s commitment to the community of license.

It scares the hell out of them when you walk in the door and ask to see that file. If they refuse to show you the file they are in serious legal jeopardy and all that entails.Boycotts don’t work, coordinated public action going after their licenses is very effective. Years ago RKO General lost the licenses to ALL of their radio and television stations for far less an unrelated charge having nothing to do with RKO’s broadcast division. These wern’t small town outlets, they were in the top 10 broadcast markets in the country. As a result RKO General once a leading broadcast group is now relegated to the dustbin of history and they did not incite violence nor was anyone murdered by their indirect/direct actions.

If you really want this to stop here’s a link to get you started:

You are all smart enough to make this happen, the question is will you?

Mike, I went to that Democratic Leadership council website and it does not seem to have any affiliation to the Dems. The Republicans need to stand up and take responsibility for their violence-encouraging language. An old trick perfected in the Bush era was for all efforts at accountability to be deflected; you will recall “a few bad apples”? You are trying to derail the conversation. The Taxed Enough Already party stands in the shadow of the Republicans by trying to avoid any responsibility.

The point the RWers are “forgetting” is that Palin had Gabby’s photo with cross-hairs on it AT THE SAME TIME Gabby was shot. That’s why it is completely legit for DEMs to call out RWers for violence inducing rhetoric.

It’s either a eerie coincident or it influenced the shooter. There are no other possibilities and either one is news that should indeed be commented on.

Mr. Mott, Can you not discern the difference between an obscure political website and Sarah Palins’ widely broadcast, tweeted, advertised, facebook posts to hundreds of thousands followers? Her words: “TARGET”, “BULLSEYE”, “RELOAD”; all AIMED at political opponents. It is the lack of perception and discernment on the part of people like Palin and her followers that is being scrutinized. Michelle Malkin? Please Mr. Mott. Your attempt to equate one action to another is illogical.

When you notice some of the grotesque comments on RS, the only explanation for them is that they are fueled by racism, anti-Semitism. the hatred of those, like immigrants, whom they perceive as ruining the “country we once knew.”. Why isn’t the country ruled by WASPs as it was in the good ole days, they wonder, and why aren’t the Know-Nothings still a force? It is, but now the name has been changed to Tea-Party.) These comments are usually mindless, hate-filled lies, bereft of facts or truth or the desire to make a better life fo all Americans, however they may perceive them “different”. People can be empty-headed, driven by stupidity and fear and be capable of blind viciousness toward each other. That is all they prove.

Remember the “Obama pals around with terrorists” that Palin played so frequently, which resulted in shouts of “Kill Him!” at Palin klan rallies during the 2008 campaign? Those all came from Sean Hannity. He was the only fringe radical who was pushing that one, and Palin ran with it. She wanted someone to take up a gun and kill Obama before the election.

I tuned in for a few minutes to Fox on XM radio last night around 6p EST. While CNN was covering Giffords and the other victims, their status, the circumstances, Fox started talking about who would take up the 5% pay reduction for Congress bill that she was working on, saying how important it was that it go forward. This woman is fighting for her life, and they’re worrying about a tea party agenda?

This woman is fighting for her life, and they’re worrying about a tea party agenda?

Actually many believed he was a zombie in his last few years in office…. It’s not like you have to have a working brain to be a Republican. Just threaten a log of people and say Jesus a lot, and you will win all yer primaries!

He was entering stages of the disease during his first term, and he became a useful idiot for the evil ones behind the scenes, i.e. the Bush family, Cheney, etc.

Sad part is that when the Bush administrations report came out from Homeland Security, after Obama was in office, naming the biggest threat in the USA coming from right wing hate groups, the right got their collective panties all bunched up. They’ll run and hide from this one, too, and not take any responsibility. They will blame this on liberals, which the Tea Party has actually already managed to do. Insanity on the right is the new normal.

what drivel. you are an elitist liar. The people you mentioned do not have a racist bone in their body. Now on the other hand, People like Shultz, Olbermann, Maddow, O’donnel, Mahr, the NPR gang, and on and on, you know this collection of racist trash right? It’s where you get your talking points. Idiots on the progressive left are so stupid I doubt they can even feel pain.

oh ok, and where you get your information? Cite specific examples of this hate! Back it up blooter. A liberal whacko goes nuts and it’s everyone else’s fault. When was the last time the alphabet networks reported news, let alone objective news? NBC, MSNBC, Olberman. Maddow, Shultz, L. O’Donnel, Mahr continue to spew hate speech nite after nite to the nitwits who view them. as far as I’m concerned these hateful scumbags can burn in hell.

That’s because they do not bear any responsibility. Why would some liberal wacko care about the tea party? This guy has no ties to conservatives, tea party or Palin. Good to see your following your masters and running the alinsky playbook step by step. Just like the rest of the progressive trash posting here.

One of the least endearing aspects (of many) of liberal woman is that overarching bitterness and total lack of a sense of humor. in their lives.

Are you suggesting that using “targeting images” is only wrong after somone gets shot? How old are you?

The video on this page does not show Fox cutting to a commercial after Palin is mentioned. This is a segment from MSNBC.

When is SaraTheSlut going to be indicted? She had something to do with this, sure as shootin’. The shooter didn’t come up with this idea out of thin air to kill a politician. Why didn’t he pick the governor? She’s a female, too. Someone told him to shoot this particular Congresswoman. Someone with lots of influence in certain people’s minds. Simple minds.

There is a direct line from Palin’s violencemongering on FAUXNOOZ, among other places, and violence. FAUXNOOZ is a co-conspirator in inciting violence, sedition and treason. They made their bed with flea-infested hell hounds and bitches, let them lie down in it.

Let Palin’s itinerary include “surveyor’s marks” for the coming year, and see how she likes it. Then, fuck her with a moose.

It doesn’t matter if Giffords’ shooter followed Pain, or not. It does matter that Palin reached out to Lone Wolf shooters like him, hoping for the same results.
