MIAMI (AFP) – A US mother in Florida has shot dead her two teenagers, police said Saturday, with some US media reports claiming she complained that they talked back.
Police said they responded to the home in New Tampa, Florida Friday after the suspect’s mother called from Texas saying she had been unable to reach family in Florida.
What they found was shocking: a woman, Julie Schenecker, 50, covered in blood, her son, 13, shot dead in the car in the family home’s garage, and her daughter, 16, shot dead in an upstairs bedroom, Tampa police said.
“The suspect confessed to killing her two children. She described the crimes in detail. The suspect was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail charged with two counts of First Degree Murder,” Tampa police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said.
ABC news reported that the suspect, a military officer’s wife, was hospitalized on Saturday, and had complained that her children were “mouthy.”
