A former employee of Fox News called the company a “propaganda outfit” that is determined to undermine the Obama administration and Democrats.

“I don’t think people would believe it’s as concocted as it is; that stuff is just made up,” the employee, whose name was kept anonymous, told the liberal media watchdog group Media Matters.

“They say one thing and do another,” the former employee said. “They insist on maintaining this charade, this façade, that they’re balanced or that they’re not right-wing extreme propagandist.”

“You have to work there for a while to understand the nods and the winks,” the former employee added. “And God help you if you don’t because sooner or later you’re going to get burned.”

The former employee’s comments did not come as a surprise to many critics of Fox News, who have long suggested the channel is biased in favor of conservatives. The 2004 documentary film “Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism” criticized the channel and its owner, Rupert Murdoch, for skewing its reporting of events to promote conservative viewpoints.

“Like any news channel there’s lot of room for non-news content,” the former employee continued. “The content that wasn’t ‘news,’ they didn’t care what we did with as long as it was amusing or quirky or entertaining; as along as it brought in eyeballs. But anything – anything – that was a news story you had to understand what the spin should be on it.”

“If it was a big enough story it was explained to you in the morning [editorial] meeting. If it wasn’t explained, it was up to you to know the conservative take on it. There’s a conservative take on every story no matter what it is. So you either get told what it is or you better intuitively know what it is.”

Internal emails obtained by Media Matters also showed that a seemingly spontaneous response concerning the Obama campaign canceling an appearance on a local news station to have been scripted by Fox News’ producers,

In another e-mail obtained by the media watchdog, Fox News Washington Managing Editor Bill Sammon told his staff to downplay the importance of climate science that showed the globe’s average temperature getting warmer.

Additional emails showed that Sammon asked his news department to refer to the public option as the “government run option” because polls showed the phrase “government option” was opposed by the public.

Perhaps not coincidentally, a poll gauging public trust in TV news found that PBS was the most trusted name in news, while trust in Fox News dropped significantly over the last year.

Faux Media starting to come apart at the seems.

This story should come out on Yahoo News where the articles are infested with Fox News followers who put in their comments bashing Obama and Democrats. This is the channel they get their ‘news’ from.

  • Jaimie11

Undoubtedly, the vast majority of MSM reporting is propaganda, and NPR is as bad as Fox, just appears more civilized is all, and is more skillful at concealing its true biases from its adoringly faithful audience.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/L5PHKRPFHK3LLTRDNVH2ZBIWOA Cal

It was inevitable that a former employee would spill the beans on Murdoch and his empire of evil. The problem is that none of the Fox news lovers will care that they are dupes. How have we ended up in a situation like this? It gives you an insight into how the Germans were subverted by Hitler in the 1920′s and 30s. I hope we have a better outcome this time around.

  • Squishable

Hopefully this wont be denied as liberal propaganda by the far right.

Murdoch is the real enemy within, I still say we need to deport his sorry ass along with his regressive lying media empire.

The above is what it’s like in brutal regimes. It would be what life will be like in the U.S if the U.S. were to be taken over by Conservatives, all we would be able to do is nod and wink. You would never know if you are talking to a Conservative undercover if you dared speak your mind.

I don’t think Rupert Murdocks even cares who he supports. Murdock’s network is set up to support millionaire’s and billionaire’s. Right now the Teapublican party is the wholly owned subsidy of the corporations.
If the DLC succeeded and turned the Democratic Party into a more virolent subsidy of the corporations, he would support the Corporate Democratic Party.

exactly… and I’m posting here to pre-empt those who want to suddenly jump in on ANY criticism of the reich-wing and spew ‘it’s dems too…’ No, it’s not, not all the time. The reich-wing is who they are and their actions need to be defined and exposed.

Most dems are complicit and corrupt, but this is who the reich-wing is: Leaders. Leaders in propaganda, leaders in lies, leaders in corporatism, leaders in crushing freedom, (except the freedom to be conservative).

“Main-stream Media Reporting is propaganda”…you have already drank the Kool Aid. Distrust for our institutions, like the Media, is the first step toward accepting double think. Blurring the line between fact and opinion, questioning history soon you believe that War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery and Ignorance is Strength. Jamie, you are well on your way.

  • Anonymous

Agree about msm + npr, but imo, fox is overwhelmingly propagandistic in the worst way. A considerably higher scale.. For example, I think there was a difference between Himmler and the SS leaders, and those who thought they were being patriotic.

  • Anonymous

You are right. It was my first stop for news, until I came here. Even if FAUX NEWS put a “streamer” at the bottom of their screen telling the “watchers” that what they are watching is pure bullshit, they would still watch it.

    O’Really? do tell…

The dislike of President Obama is because of the color of his skin. From churches to civic organizations we are still a racially divided nation. We are also economically divided, but this is not as easy to see among the masses and there is a real blurr when today’s college graduates can earn more starting out then their parents earned in a lifetime. My first job after college paid nearly 7 times what my parents earned at their peak. The news and conservatives try to base their interests on conservative values, but the majority of them don’t have the values they want others to have example Sarah and Bristol Palin and abstinence. Many complain of healthcare and call it Obabmacare, but they don’t mind Medicare / Veterans Care and numerous other government sponsored programs. Sarah Palin doesn’t even mind that her family receives free healthcare because of the Alaskan ancestry. Public employees mind the masses getting healthcare because healthcare is a freebie to them, but as they are being asked to pay for some of the premiums they realize that they to like the idea of totally free insurance.

Then you will like this link. The U.S Chamber of Commerce plans to pull O’Keefee’s and Brietbarts. The U.S Chamber’s plot is to hand out fake documents to progressives and then later expose them as fake.

These tactics are brutal regime tactics.

If the U.S Chamber pulled it off. Fox Fraud News would be there to help. And Republicans will more than happy to enter this fake Chamber gotcha in the Congressional records.

Conservatives have no morals keep that in mind and check all your sources because Conservatives are deceiful scums.

No, those others are center-right. A far left version of fox would be something like the old Pravda in the USSR. It would never be allowed on TV.

For example, just as faux news bashes marxism every day through lies and propaganda, a left-wing equivalent would praise marxism every day. (also through lies and propaganda)

Is this really News? First if you’ve seen one Fox News broadcast, you’ve seen enough. Turn off station and call a few of their advertisers If you continue to watch and complain. 1 million people calling a 800 number daily and not buying a thing…cost advertisers $$$. Fox News has a tremendous payroll, Sean H over $25 million a year, O’Relly, Beck the same. They make double that from books, shows its a machine that brings in $$$$$$. Stop buying their advertisers product and call them to let them know. Do it, it feels good

This article proves that the dumbing of America is an on going affair. Between the public schools being under funded and understaffed, buildings being in disrepair, a lack of the importance of learning about political science, the true history of the U.S. and world history, as well as the other sciences, leaves U.S. students far behind the rest of the world. And, we wonder why the U.S. is in decline.

  • Anonymous

They’re talking about Fox 24 hour news. They’re on basic cable so no, the Government doesn’t own those airwaves.
Even worse,.. if the propaganda arm were on public airwaves (the local Fox broadcasts are tame) we’d have little recourse because the courts have ruled that there is no legal obligation for a news channel to tell the truth.
This might shock you, but Fox news appealed a wrongful-termination suit on the grounds that they didn’t have a legal obligation to tell the truth. A Husband/wife producing team were fired in Florida for refusing to air a segment they knew to be false. Fox lost the straight case, the courts affirmed the couple was fired for this reason. Fox appealed and won claiming they couldn’t be held responsible because it was OK for them to knowingly air false ‘news’.. so it was dereliction for the producers to refuse to run the segment.

All of you saying “Well, Duh” are missing the point. OF COURSE we all know Faux News is “fixed and baloney”, the important thing here is the source and the continuing documentation in detail of the conspiracy. That’s what’s really needed. The MSM needs FACTS such as emails and first-hand accounts and THEN it’s credible.

Aw! You’re just biased and think your side is THE good side. You’re entitled to that opinion but it just ain’t fact.

Does anybody realize how much President Obama’s election and administration has changed the face of news? Four years ago, Fox was everybody’s primo resource for news, it seemed. President Obama, without ever castigating them directly, has turned the media around completely, and two years into his term, Pox Noise is no longer considered a source for “news.” This is good. Very good. It’s time for Rupert Murdoch to quit poisoning this democracy with his lies and propaganda. America belongs to Americans, not to Australian moguls trying to control our political landscape.

  • Anonymous

It’s more effective, I think, to tell them to change the channel, and to tell them that you don’t usually do business with people who play Pox 24/7. That makes them think about what happens when you lose your customers before you can even coax the money out of their pockets.

  • Jaimie11

Look, the Fox audience is not that sophisticated and it’s easy to herd them. The NPR audience is generally far better educated thus requiring far more subtle and nuanced propagandizing to get them into the pen.

  • Anonymous

Many people, yes. The majority of people, no. That’s the problem. As long as Pox had a comfortable majority of Americans believing their poisonous lies, they could steer our elections. Perhaps Rupert will now move to some other democracy he can strangle.

  • Anonymous

Great idea! Wanna start the campaign?

Fox has a built in base of people who are rabidly conservative, and really could care less what is or isn’t “factual” or even remotely true. All they want is to hear and beleve what they already either belive to be so, or want to be. If you go to any conservative bog site it’s exactly the same. Regardless of the facts or objective evidence presented, the commenters will always follow the lead of the overseer who posts the blog’s message…which is overwhelmingly anti-Obama or Democrat.

  • Anonymous

Exactly how are “librulz” supposed to “fight back,” when the Mighty Wurlitzer of the Pox Noise machine combined with the “mainstream media” drowns out any individual voices, and there are NO “librul” media outlets?

  • Jaimie11

I object to propaganda being the predominant item on the menu whichever channel I choose from the MSM. So I don’t bother with it. What I understand is beyond your ability to determine from the two sentences I posted previously. Be assured of that.

  • Anonymous

I have never watched Pox Noise in my life. The important thing is to get businesses to stop tuning in to anything Pox. Please, peeps, if you walk into a place of business and it has Pox? Tell them to switch the channel. If they refuse, find someplace else to spend your dollars. And be sure to TELL THEM WHY.

  • Anonymous

Of course ALL MSM is, to an extent, controlled by the corporations that own them (PBS being the counter), but that doesn’t mean they ALL push a specific political message on a daily basis.

“The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money and more power.
They claim to be superpatriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective toward which all their deceit is directed is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjugation”

Which NETWORK consistently misidentifies Democratic officials accused of wrong doing as Republicans?

Which NETWORK has a former head of the Democratic Party setting the daily news agenda?

Which NETWORK employs multiple former and current Democratic Presidential hopefuls?

If your answer is MSNBC you are making a false analysis. Most importantly as it relates to the communication of FACTS, if an MSNBC host is shown to be factually incorrect they openly correct their mistakes!

IF there WAS a left version of Faux News the country would be better off for they would have the courage to present the TRUTH about the corporate control of our country and maybe an Iowa focus group would be less concerned about the Presidents Religion and more concerned about the Plutocracy’s control of our financial system and the implications for the future of the country!

Their media empires have grown so large that all that matters now is the bottom line. Truth, independence, and real journalism are all but trite formalities to these men.

They sign disclosure agreements, so they can be prosecuted if identity is released. Duh. And if you have not figured what was said is true just by looking at the idiocy on that station, you need to learn how to research things. MSNBC is slanted. They leave out info on a lot of things, they lie on occasion, etc. But they admit their bias and since they do that, they have a reasonable amount of integrity. FOX is not “a little” worse than MSNBC. They are 100 times worse. They do in fact “make stuff up”. Last one was the idiocy that Michelle Obama’s call for kids to get out and walk more has led to more child pedestrian deaths. Hmmm, I’m trying to think of another event that might have “actually” had an imapct on that? Could it possibly be that almost the entire country has been blanketed with snow. Roads are slick, steep snow piles at intersections and roads hindering pedestrian and driver views, more kids on the street when schools are canceled (and many times unsupervised), etc. Could that possibly have anything to do with it? Of coruse not on FOX. Michelle Obama must be at fault.

MSNBC is slanted. FOX is destached and depraved. MSNBC admits they are slanted. FOX claims to be “fair and balanced”.

And just to shopw you how wacked out FOX is, Andrew Napolitano (their “legal analyst”) gave 9/11 Truth a “wow, you guys make good points” nod. Complete idiocy. And they all give Obama Birther’s cheers.

If this is your source of info, it is no wonder you have your perspectives. Don’t get you info from TV News. It’s really just entertainment. They are legally allowed to lie on both their opinion shows and news shows. THE FCC has no standards that say you must report the truth.

Unfortunately, lots of Americans have an intelligence quotient lower than 80. The dumbing down of the country didn’t happen by accident, and the term “intellectual elite” so bandied about by the right wing is an intentional attempt (and done quite well) to create mistrust between Fox viewers and the left. It’s very sad and the masses won’t realize they’ve been duped by Murdoch, the Kochs, etc, until it’s too late.

“propagandized to the max” lol I am seeing this as a great opportunity to spread even more propaganda than Fox ever thought of promoting. Don’t mark me as Right or Left…I am neither. I am a person that seeks the truth and the Oil Disaster has enlightened MANY of Americans as to how our country is run and WHO runs it… Shills, placed here by government just as they are also scattered within the Oil Disaster sites on Facebook and the web… Do you think the oil disaster is a continued problem along the Gulf or do you think everything is back to normal? You think what our Government wants you to think NOT what one news station wants you to think…The Government puts the word out there then a few to back it up and there ya have it… People are convinced. If you do your research you will see how the Government runs the media. The majority of them are told what they can cover…If it has to do with the Gulf disaster ..well that is a no no.. That’s because BIG CORPORATIONS are in bed with our Government. We have a shadow government . The President and VP are all puppets…No matter who is elected.. Your News that you think is correct is full of propaganda and what they want you to think. The Gulf Coast IS NOT back to normal by any means. Many have been very ill…They are saying that our seafood is safe to eat??? It is not… The government or EPA testing is biased because of the economy issues. They rather you eat toxic seafood and come down and swim in our Toxic Pool because of the economy. We test the seafood, air, water, and peoples blood independently and have found all to contain toxins. Until EPA starts testing for what is really there no one will be safe. BP dumped a lab created microbe virus into the mix in hops that it would eat the oil all gone. Have you read this in your favorite news site?? Has your government told you about this?? We, along the Coast, are left trying to help ourself because the President has turned his back on us. The doctors are not even helping. They don’t want to get involved. Immune systems have all but vanished…People catch one thing after another and bleed internally. They appear to have bruising all around the torso…The dispersant they used, COREXIT, has been banned in many countries due to it’s toxicity but we suspect it continues to be used along the coast because we are still finding it in test and some of the toxins from it and the oil are in many peoples blood. Most people are getting it from just breathing the air..Please go to Face Book “Coastal Warriors” if you wish to know the truth. I believe NONE of the media because I have tracked the $$$ down…

Who is sleeping with who is hollyweird, or where they go on vacation, or what the president is serving at his stupidbowl party isn’t news. The facts being what can be verified through MANY sources. You use the word ‘never’. It’s obvious that’s a claim that you would be hard pressed to back up yourself.

and to totally fabricate the ‘news’ is entirely legal, say the courts.

back in about 2003, this lady journalist at fox news show like 60 Minutes had worked up a show on monsanto’s BGH, how it intros 52 unknown homrones into a human; thought to disrupt hormones and prescriptions, esp in women and elders… thought to be the cause of 600,000 kids as young as 5 going into puberty (an item in project censored several years.)

then fox was threatened by monsanto and fox cut her segment. when she protested; was fired for insubordination. suing, at the appeals level fox won on the grounds that the corporate ‘person’ has the right of free expression, including lying, fabrication, falsified surveys, you name it. fox hailed this as a ‘victory for the 1st amendment.’

Just for starters, anyone who doesn’t know how the moon got there and thinks other planets don’t have moons, should be fired – immediately. Also those who admit to not “believing” in climate change must follow with the addendum: “Though 97% of climate scientists warn about human-induced global warming” (instead they quote the odd one that opposes the science). Unfortunately, it is not as simple as “all conservatives are stupid.” And there are plenty of liberals who are, let’s say, almost as stupid and unquestioning. The difference, I think, is that a dumb liberal leader will look around and say “aww, let’s help all these people get an education so they can understand and take part in our process of democracy,” whereas a dumb conservative leader will look around and say “hmmm, this is great, we have all these stupid peoples to sell our crap to so WE can get rich at their expense.” Empathy, compassion, humanity – there’s the difference.

“They insist on maintaining this charade, this façade, that they’re balanced or that they’re not right-wing extreme propagandist.”

Didn’t you know? “The media is biased liberal media.” Fox news is there to offset this unequality and I truly believe they hide behind the assumption/theory that they are “fair and balanced” because they are countering the liberal media…. HAHAHAHA! Like I said yesterday, the media is not liberal you shitheads! They are educated.

I love CBS and KCET, I can’t recall which channel hosts “Frontline” if you have never seen the program it is definitely a good one to watch. Similar to 20/20 in format yet no commercials. When you see the special on how unregulated coroners are it will really get the gears going. Suddenly it all makes sense. (keep in mind I had no idea this was going on until the program) it is in law enforcements best interest to keep Coroner services unregulated. I, with a HS diploma can become a Coroner right now in some countys. When you get into the corruption and how these guys work hand in hand with law enforcement, with all the potential known and unknown cover ups, false imprisonment, and incorrect statements of death, you are putting every single person in this country at risk. Think of the implications of getting your cause of death wrong? Natural death when it was a suicide… Suicide when it was murder… These mistakes place everyone at risk…

This article shows that the organization that truly “makes stuff up” is Media Matters. I’ve never seen anything so obviously bogus and concocted in my life.

Sure, the political commentary on Fox is generally right-wing, but their news coverage is not. Their usual practice is to have two commentators, one left, one right, or one Democrat and one Republican, comment on each news story.

Regular commentators on Fox News include brilliant Democratic strategist Susan Estrich, far-left professor Marc Lamont Hill, and Rev. Al Sharpton. Are these right wingers???

If this article is legit, how come not a SINGLE example is given of Fox News “making stuff up”? If they do it all the time, surely the writer or the fictional interviewee could think of at least one example …

If a rightwing website published an interview with an unnamed “former employee” of MSNBC claiming that Rachel Maddow is really a serial killer, would you take it seriously? No one should take this seriously either. It’s obvious this “former employee of Fox” doesn’t exist.

Fox, like all news organizations, should be fact-checked and held to high standards. But this should be done with FACTS, with actual examples of their distortions or bad reporting, not — as this article does — by “simply making stuff up”.

  • Anonymous

Perhaps then you should buy or rent “OutFoxed,” in which former Fox “News” employees actually show their faces on camera, are identified by name and make these same sorts of statements about their former employer.

You can get former employees of any organization to badmouth it. And every news organization has a point of view. MSNBC and Huffington Post are very left-wing, CNN is moderately so. Do you view their orientations as a crime against humanity as well?

The important thing to me is that all sides are represented. You can get the left-wing view of events from the NYT or MSNBC or Nat’l Public Radio. Fox News is practically alone is providing right-of-center counterarguments.

The constant hysterical attacks on Fox News show how intolerant the Left is of free speech that questions their authority and their sacred cows. I’ve never seen anyone on Fox suggest MSNBC should be censored or taken off the air. Only “progressives” demand that all voices except their own be silenced.

Can you progressives do ANYTHING besides calling people names? Like — oh maybe actually ANSWERING any of my assertions? Fox News has plenty of liberals and progressives on to provide commentary. How many conservatives are given a voice on MSNBC or the Huffington Post?

You call my post “mis- and disinformation”. Fine. Give me ONE example of either in anything I’ve written here.

The reason Fox has more viewers domestically than CNN and MSNBC put together is simple: they’re more responsible and offer a wider range of opinion than the other two channels put together.

  • Anonymous

I suggest you view “OutFoxed,” in which MANY ex-employees who are NAMED and PICTURED say exactly what this unnamed Faux employee does. And yes, Faux IS worse than all the rest. No other cable or network news outfit outlines for all of its employees exactly what same expression to use when talking about a political issue. No other cable or network news outfit consistently uses a “D” to identify Republicans enmeshed in scandals (like Mark Foley) mistakenly as Democrats. No other cable or network news outlet consistently interrupts, shouts over or cuts to commercial those guests on talk shows with whom the host may disagree. Faux uses bullying tactics on its liberal guests, then says because they simply show up, that’s “balanced” dialogue. It’s not.

Then why don’t you do that – fact check every story! The Press, the media in general needs to be free and independent – it isn’t!. Neither is so much, because those with influence want it that way! • Anonymous

Buy or rent “OutFoxed,” in which many ex-Foxers who are NAMED and PICTURED state what this ex-employee states about Fox’s propagandizing and violation of journalistic standards. How bout this TellDTruth: Fox tried to get you to believe (and you probably did) that the Pres.’s trip to India cost $200 million a day ($10 million more than the entire war and reconstruction effort in Afganistan) and launched 1/4 of the US Navy surface fleet. They tried to convince you that end of life counseling (a republican idea) were “death panels” and that Saddam had something to do with 9/11. This is just the tip of the iceberg. As far as MSNBC goes, they have former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough on all morning and Ms. Maddow repeatedly says that her viewpoints from a liberal perspective. Also, I watch Fox and i remember the connections they made with Obama’s victory and the Black Panthers. So, get a clue dude, they think you are a SUCKER; how does that make you feel?

  • hourglass1

go back to sleep … you use less of my oxygen that way.

none of your arguments are factual – when did you stop beating your wife?

  • Anonymous

Cannot, how many hours do you watch Fox News every week? Then how do you presume to be an expert on their programming? Most of my best friends are left-wing politically and constantly rail against Fox — but they never watch it, so they don’t even know what they’re railing against. They’re like the bluestocking book burners who demanded LOLITA or ULYSSES be banned for their obscenity, but wouldn’t dream of reading either one.

I think CNN, MSNBC, Huffington Post, and Fox News should ALL thrive and be available to everyone. Let intelligent viewers watch them all, and get facts and opinions from other sources as well, and make their own minds.

Only the Left is so intolerant, it seems, that they fly into a rage at the mere thought that anyone is ALLOWED to disagree with them.

  • Anonymous

Additionally, despite Ms. Maddow constantly “revealing” that she is a liberal, she doesn’t lie. FOX lies constantly. Yesterday I was watching FOX and heard them saying that the unrest in Egypt is a result of a conspiracy by incognito American socialists. They don’t just lie, they lie on a level so ridiculous that it would be comical if so many dults didn’t buy it and if it weren’t so detrimental to our country and the functioning of our democracy. They are a cancer on the intellect of America…..

None of the stories you cite appeared on Fox News, as far as I know. Lefties are always posting nonsense on the internet they CLAIM appeared on Fox.

“FOX NEWS reports that slavery was good and all gays should be killed!”

The true suckers are folks like yourself who believe such propaganda without any actual evidence. I saw Fox commentators specifically attack Sarah Palin for her “death panels” remark.

The only story Fox covered re. the New Black Panthers was a video-verified case of voter intimidation at one polling place, where Black Panthers threatened white voters with baseball bats and verbal abuse. A clear violation of the law and the Voting Rights Act, this should have been reported by every news organization.

I gather from your post this story has morphed in left-wing circles into an urban legend that Fox credited the Black Panthers for Obama’s victory. Which is ludicrous.

When Juan Williams, the ONLY black male commentator permitted on National Public Radio, a confirmed left-liberal, was fired, who picked up his contract and gave him more air-time, where he now regularly argues against Fox’s right-wingers? Fox News.

Craig, I’m not claiming Fox doesn’t lean right in its opinion shows — of course they do. Just as the NYT, Washington Post, MSNBC, CNN, etc. etc. lean left.

The difference between you and me is that I welcome arguments from smart people who disagree with me. I don’t become apoplectic at the thought that other voices are permitted to be heard.

  • PoorCitizen

To give you just one example, FOX showed a “live clip” of a Tea Party protest in Washington. They doctored the footage so that the crowd would be 10-100 times larger than it was in fact. A close inspection of their footage revealed that they had used footage of the “million man march” that took place months earlier as a backdrop for the faux Tea Party footage. This is really old news as nearly all the wire services picked up on the scam. Evidently, you were sleeping or perhaps Uncle Ruppert just had your head embalmed. Its unclear how anyone could be so slow as to not to pick up on it.

Others may have their favorite example, but people would be idiots to list all similar stuff too numerous to mention, as it would be just a waste of time. Ruppert Murdoch has an agenda, tax breaks and media empire expansion for him, and you seem to have bought it hook, line and sinker. He knows, as Abe Lincoln aptly pointed out “You can fool some of the people all the time” and is laughing all the way to the bank.

    Good luck with that!

  • Anonymous

That is absurd. Who said that on what show? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Here’s a study done by the non-partisan Center for Media and Public Affairs which found that Fox News’ coverage of the last Presidential campaign was truly more “fair and balanced” than that of the other networks. This article gives the actual data and numbers. Why don’t you try actually reading it and answering with some facts of your own before posting THAT’S A PILE OF LIES AND BULLS#@T!

    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tom-blumer/2007/12/27/study-fox-most-fair-balanced-thus-far-prez-campaign

Fox comes right out of the book “1984″ I like how when they go to a commercial they will put a positive spin on Republicans or Tea Party or a negative spin when they talk about Obama or the Democrats. Fox is for,of, by the corporation and their viewers are just the peasants doing their bidding.

  • Anonymous

I like your comment “Juan Williams, the ONLY black male commentator permitted on NPR.” As if there was a “permitting” going on. His contract was picked up because he made a comment that Fox News liked, and they wanted more such comments.

And here is the difference, NYT, Washington Post, MSNBC, CNN, etc, etc do NOT lean left. They just present the news in an unbiased nature. Fact is that “the truth” is always left-leaning.

  • jack nichols

Who cares? This story is way left…everything that we hear from organized media is propaganda from one wacko left side to the other wacko right side. All of it is rubbish. The only way to get honest news is from the internet, and then you have to be careful. One thing for sure, if its on TV it is rubbish

  • Anonymous

“None of your arguments are factual.” Name one. No wonder fewer and fewer people take the Left seriously. You have no facts, no arguments, just attitude and name-calling.

I would describe myself as socially liberal and fiscally conservative. I’m also a registered Democrat, though I’m deeply disappointed with much my party has done in recent years.

If liberalism is dwindling down to potty-mouth airheads whose idea of rational argument is lobbing insults so juvenile, they would raise eyebrows on a Kindergarten playground, we’re really in trouble …

  • Anonymous

totally agree, but I think my analogy still stands..

Man, stop it with that tired comment “the Left is so intolerant”. The only the the Left cannot tolerate is ignorant rants from Conservatives. If a conservative has a valid point, backed up by facts and mature commentary, we are all for listening. But, too often what we get is ignorant arguments and name calling. I cannot tell you how many times I will respond to a conservative with FACTS, and they change the subject to some personal issue, neither provable or unprovable.

You have provided a valid point, many people who frequent this site do not, in fact, watch Fox News. We watch parts of it on The Daily Show, but very few of us can stand to watch much of it. Everything is presented with a conservative bent which anyone who gets their news from any other source as well, quickly recognizes as ignorant (or outright making shit up) conservative news. Difficult to watch that for too long without throwing a brick at the tv.

“…Sure, the political commentary on Fox is generally right-wing, but their news coverage is not…”

So, this is what I am talking about. I WOULD bet my postgraduate degree against yours. One thing I learned is the difference between *question* and “statement”. He did not state that you were a “fucking retard”, he asked you if you were one. He then gave you a compliment, saying that you seem to be more intelligent than that comment makes you sound. He then asked if maybe you were just toeing the party line as a Fox employee, again indicating that there must be some REASON you made such a ridiculous comment.

And you did make the comment, so he is just calling you on your words.

Try this, go to npr.org, read an article about an important subject of the day. Then watch the same coverage on fox, if you can find it. If, after that, you cannot see a right-wing slant, then others will question your intelligence as well.

A clear violation of the law and the Voting Rights Act, this should have been reported by every news organization.”

Except the 20 seconds of video played in a loop gave the impression that it was a constant day long case of intimidation by scary looking large black men. The PROBLEM was that no voter complained about being intimidated by these two men who were there to protect local voters from OUTSIDE intimidation. In FACT voters interviewed by authorities and news organizations had no problem with the presence of these two men.

The story or nonstory WAS covered by all of the networks and cable news outlets but only Faux news got a week footage out of the FALSE claim of voter intimidation!

As for your claim that Faux News and their show hosts did not push the narratives listed by Craig Z I can only say there are hours and hours of tape that clearly show they pushed and pumped the story lines.

    Here’s more:

1.Fox News reported that Kevin Jennings, an Assistant Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of Education, was informed by a 15 year old boy that he was having sexual encounters with older men. Jennings didn’t report this conversation, and Fox News proceeds to harp on how much of a tool he is. What they didn’t bother to find out is that the kid wasn’t 15, he was above the age of consent.

2.In an April 2009, the Fox News show America’s Newsroom made the claim that Obama’s $3.6 trillion budget is 4x bigger than Bush’s costliest plan. This isn’t true at all. Bush’s budgets for 2009 and 2008 were $3.1 and $2.9 trillion respectively.

3.Fox News and the New York Post reported completely unsubstantiated rumors that Obama was raised in a Muslim madrasah. This must have news to the school itself… Santo Fransiskus Asisi, a Roman Catholic school run at the time by a stern Dutch priest.

  • Anonymous

  • Anonymous

    Dave,

I am not a Republican but am in many ways right-leaning. I do, however, believe in drug legalization and am an atheist and dislike the Christian right cramming their beliefs down the throats of others (especially anti-gay BS). I am pro-abortion, which many people, even on the left, are afraid to say (they prefer the PC term “pro choice”, which I think is chicken-shit; say what you mean). I have no issues with gays or gay marriage, as I believe that any two (or more) adults have a right to do whatever pleases them as long as it is not harming anyone else.

Why the background? To show that I’m not simply a right-wing pundit or whatever other creative label may be assigned. I believe that anyone just disagreeing with an entire side of the political spectrum is ignorant; we all must have some common ground. I also believe that most people on our level (I’m assuming most of us on here are just everyday, hard-working individuals) have the common good of their fellow man in mind, whether they believe that the left or right political philosophy is the way to go. This is something that is usually forgotten from behind a keyboard. Complete intolerance sucks. Name calling sucks; it’s immature and shows a lack of ability (or at least lack of will) to form a cognitive, rational response to a situation.
Sorry for rambling-on to my point: I have many friends on Facebook whom I’ve befriended simply because they were involved in a political discussion and I thought I’d like to hear their point-of-view, as it was different from mine. Twice I’ve disagreed with folks who were left-leaning and provided well-researched, fact-supported (with links) arguments. Both times I was called many names including, of course, racist (for disagreeing with a black man) and fascist (which I still don’t fully understand the definition of, despite looking up “fascism” on Wikipedia) and many other things. Whenever I would explain that I did not mean to offend the individual he just kept calling me more names and refused to look at or respond to any of my evidence. The second incident involved a lady who called me a fascist and simply made it impossible for me to respond to her post or communicate with her. Intolerance? I try to be very tolerant and welcome disagreement, as long as there is no yelling or petty name calling.

    Sorry for the tome.

“We already know the money thing is probably not true. We suspect the logistical freakouttery is also less than accurate. Along with the number of planes that Rush mentioned Tuesday is the right-wing meme that “34 warships” will be dispatched to protect Obama. Here’s how the military’s paper, Stars and Stripes, reacted to that one…”

They said the 200 mil thing was “probably not true”. So, even you didn’t actually find a source to refute it, just one that speculates it’s not true. They’re being honest and saying that it is not likely it’s true, but they provide no proof that it is false.

Old people watch a lot more TV than those that are young and “young-at-heart”? Really? This is a great argument and totally explains the viewer difference. Many people on here keep referring to these websites which debunk Fox but almost no one references them. From a critical thinking standpoint, the burden of proof lies first person trying to prove a point, not the other way around. Ergo, all of you people that say that Fox is BS need to prove it, instead of talking about all the proof without providing any.

You left/right folks can go on forever arguing about weather or not Fox lies, and you’d both be right. Fox purposely lies, and then if they get enough heat, they retract the statement later, apologizing for their “error.” But the damage has been done, because many people subconciously remember the original lie, others arent around to see the retraction, and still others missed the original lie, see the retratraction, and subconciously remember the lie any way. Still, Fox can turn around and claim to be innocent, as they have indeed edited the error.

It’s important that these facts, obvious as they are intuitively to many of us, are still pointed out.

Or let me make that thought active: it’s crucial that reputable news organizations and institutions point out and underline facts, even though we may say “No sh*t, Sherlock” about what has long been obvious to us, such as:

Faux/Pox News Channel is a blatant right-wing, plutocratic propaganda outfit for billionaires, the GOP and Wall St., and Wal-Mart by its very nature destroys jobs and impoverishes people, while enriching its top executives and shareholders.

What about the Fairness Doctrine eliminates free speech? No one here has said that people should not voice their opinions. It is that argument that is predominately made by the right wing. Notice I didn’t say Conservatives, they are not the same group. The 1st Amendment does not mean you have the right to be put on TV to give your opinion. It just means you have the right to voice it.

The Greater Moral Authority – by not being free and independent perhaps , by presenting lies from a biblical perspective – I don’t have the answers but if I had loads of money which i don’t I could argue it as ‘they’ do, all the time hiding behind whatever it is you say, they have the right to do, which is simply blatant distortion for the benefit of one party, at the expense of everything and everyone else – and when it suits them to do so!
Just because the supreme court says that corporations have the right to unlimited financial political contribution doesn’t make it right – along them lines. I also believe we should regulate a number of things that have been eroded via legal mechanisms by those that can afford to do so – and when it suits them. When a few distort and change the system for corporate benefit, is that ok – or a moral issue.? Bush refered to the constitution as just a Piece of paper – rethugs always seem to use them same old arguments. What about all those amendments then, plus the unratified ones – let alone fema and all the constitutional infractions there. Fox is a propaganda machine and should be regulated as such, as it doesn’t have the better interests of the People at heart – if you don’t like it change it, but where does the money come from to do that, why does it take money? Fox, for xrissakes called the election in 2000,and all the stations followed suit, when did it get that right. I don’t see that in the fucking constitution? http://freeandindependent.us/?page_id=346&cpage=1
Then there’s this http://desertpeace.wordpress.com/2011/02/12/who-suleiman-really-is-by-one-of-his-victims/ “For years, “war on terror” supporters defamed Habib and claimed he was lying about his allegations of mistreatment. However last year in just one case against the Australian Murdoch press,…..” it’s really about the mitigating circumstances isn’t it!?

  • MNUSA

Excellent question. Is there a reasonable, accurate, thoughtful conservative philosophy? I wouldn’t listen to FOX because it’s propaganda, but try to pay attention to conservatives on other stations. They lie over and over and over.

Once my son had to debate “pro death penalty.” The library had no books, magazine articles or journals with a pro death penalty position. When he asked why, I told him. There is no study anywhere that has proved the death penalty deters crime or saves tax dollars. In fact, chances are that we’ve executed many innocent people in our thirst for blood. But conservatives and even some liberals tell it it is a deterrant.

EVERYONE is allowed to have a voice. But lies, distortions and fear-mongering don’t provide a balance to anything. It they can’t tell the truth, then it’s propaganda. If they can’t express their opinion without name-calling, it’s propaganda. If their “facts” are based on falsehoods, it’s propaganda. If they’re trying to scare the Hell out of their listeners, it’s propaganda. I just haven’t found a legitimate and truthful conservative source of news. Perhaps it exists, I just haven’t found it.

I agree with Olberman’s views – but I don’t want to be the choir which he preaches to. I want the truth even if it hurts me. I want to hear the other side. I want to hear all sides. That’s what makes me feel good – getting the whole story, not just hearing my sides view. Especially not just my sides views, because I already agree with them! Let’s hear someone else speak!

  • Anonymous

Why can’t that happen? Obama had enough power in his first 2 years to do something about the corruption of our broadcast system. I think Clear channel is a monopoly. Freedom of communication was one of the requirements of a free Republic clearly stated by our founders.

You know what,.. you’re absolutely right. With one exception…. HE is the one who initiated the argument… and WITHOUT proof or source.
And normally if someone challenges with some specious argument… if they offer something tangible I’m more quick to oblige with sources.
I honestly don’t mind a valid argument. It challenges me …and any preconceived or unexamined attitudes that I have.
But please consider, that you reply to something I wrote 20 hours ago (which means it was about 1am on a Friday workday evening here in europe) which means I’m replying to someone I know isn’t interested in proof anyway… at 1 or 2 am …so I’m probably not going to do the research or provide links unless I’ve seen them take up the challenge.
In other words, put me to the test if you’re interested in what I have or can find… but at this hour I’m not going to bother unless you show interest.

How many articles have already been posted here where you’ve seen or heard Keith Olberman or Rachel Maddow or Jon Stewart or Media Matters.org or Fact Check.org or Politifact.com or Snopes.com or The Daily Kos literally rip into the claims that have been made on FOX NEWS.
I mean seriously, man… I shouldn’t even have to provide the evidence… it’s there if you’ve half an eyeball.
But I do understand what you’re saying about ‘in the interest of critical thinking’ because I’ve lately been trying to base my responses on said Critical Thinking rules or procedure.
I am actually trying to retrain my thinking a bit.
    Nonetheless, the onus was on him to provide proof of his argument first;

they own the main stations, subsidize and protect their media monopoly. the biggest problem the left, politicians, media analysts can’t read what’s on radio and it gives thinking people headaches to listen to it so it’s effectiveness as a propaganda tool is greatly underestimated. even if recognized it is up to the left orgs to get active on it with picketing of local stations and boycotting and shaming local sponsors of those stations whether their ads play during limbaugh or the local blowhards rating of local burger joints on the weekend. no two words get more immediate reaction from the right than ‘fairness doctrine’ and unfortunately many progressives think a coordinated corporate propaganda monopoly is just another place where ‘political entertainers’ (protected by call screeners) should be given full free speech status. they get a free speech free ride and need picketing and boycotting on national scale. the GOP can’t do shit without it and unchallenged, it dominates messaging in US media.

All of the MSM media news outlets are owned by right-leaning corporations. Faux keeps the liberal media myth going so that they can go to the extreme right while is the MSM is mainstream right.

The only lefty places to get real news are FSTV.org and Link TV. The rest is all corporate nonsense; Americans are fed the “Barney” news designed for kids and simple minds. Watch international news channels from Europe and you’ll be shocked at the BS we are fed every day. Totally corporate, totally untrue.

  • Jaimie11

Have you clicked on that FSTV link you provided? It’s an ad.

Anyway, I like http://www.antiwar.com/ I like hearing all points of view provided they are supportive of freedom and responsibility. The left/right seesaw is a tool of the oligarchs in my opinion. They use it to keep us all divided into two, TWO, groups so that they can manage to approximate fair elections. They accomplish this by manipulating political opinions to fit left and right, no in between, no coalitions, and so produce a win/lose result as in a democracy the winner takes all, and the loser gets to build resentment until it’s their time to win and take revenge.

This is counter to how a democratic republic functions. We are supposed to have multiple voices and opinions, and respect them. Why are we always fighting? It does us no good.

Raised in Europe I naturally go to foreign sites every morning. I start at the BBC and go from there checking out stories in the foreign media, then to Antiwar, and then Raw Story.

But AntiWar.com is one of the best sites for global political news – there is absolutely no nonsense at all there. They say this of themselves:

“We have all kinds of readers — liberals, conservatives, and all points in between. And we do our best to bring them the best reporting and commentary on the international scene available on the Internet.

We don’t let the arbitrary categories of “Left” and “Right” get in the way of our coverage, or our vision of a united movement determined to restore sanity to American foreign policy.

Progressives, tea partiers, socialists, pacifists, realists, libertarians, and Greens — our goal is to make Antiwar.com an indispensable resource for all. Challenging the “Left-Right” paradigm is at the core of our mission, because the War Party wins when the peace community is divided against itself.

We can build a united and effective movement for peace, but we can’t do it without your help. You may not agree with everything you read on this site, but that’s the value of it — because only a diverse peace movement can succeed.”

Try it. You might like it.

Per a recent poll, 12 of the top 15 cable news shows … were on Faux.

  • Jaimie11

I think the lies of NPR are more subtle – but their analyses are flawed in favor of supporting the status quo.

They supported Bush’s torture program by insisting on using euphisms for the word ‘torture’. They support assassination and liquidation of persons without charges, arrest, trial – telling their adoring audience that such is not murder. They claimed that enhanced interrogation or harsh interrogation is not torture thereby supporting the Bush/Cheney regime at its worst.

NPR have managed to put to sleep whatever remnants of the aware liberal-leaning-philosophic consciousness that still existed after Clinton aroused its ire. Try listening to their analyses more critically. They are effectively right wing, authoritarian, corporate whores. Their primary focus is entertainment and cooking tips interspersed with newsy sound bites and shallow commentary right out of the neoconlib propaganda handbook.

You are right in that the landscape of corporate ownership has already been decided. It is a non-issue to almost all corporate media, why would they want to discuss it?, It’s disheartening but they won, it seems like part of the natural landscape.
I found the hedging on calling torture irritating but as npr dependent on government funding (see republican effort end financing) ,I chalked it up to that and their attempt at balance. Terminology is a subtle form of disinformation but not necessarily wrong(i.e. goverment run healthcare).
I remember a great moment during the whole waterboarding/ torture debate when the radio host Mancow (who claimed waterboarding was not torture) was waterboarded as a radio stunt and didn’t last six seconds. Not even strapped down, after that, he called it torture. Link below.

RE: “…Coming apart at the seems.” I really, really, really hope that was an intentional spelling!

How is this news? Like it was news that catholic priests molest little boys. Fox is so extremely biased that even children see it.

I would believe this story except that Republicans and Democrats are obviously both on the same side, and that side is not that of the majority of the American people. The actions of Obama have amply demonstrated this. He is GWB with a different skin color, and in some respects even more devious.

I believe that the true purpose of Fox is to foster the illusion of opposition to Obama and the Democrats. They would like the American public to believe there is a real choice in elections, when in fact both parties serve the same masters (not common Americans).

Since it makes no difference which candidate you vote for, you are going to get the same poison either way, I propose a movement to BOYCOTT the next presidential election. This would send a powerful message to our oppressors that they are not fooling us.

Former FoxNews employee: “If it was a big enough story it was explained to you in the morning [editorial] meeting. If it wasn’t explained, it was up to you to know the conservative take on it.”

Oh….and Fuchs News readily identifies their sources, right.
Every time Fox has a source the mantra is..”some people say”, “those that are saying”, “we’ve heard people say”…..ad nauseam.
With some of the most arrogant, egotistical propagandist in journalism, what’s not to despise?

At least the source is “named”…..oh, wait…..

And it’s a good thing no other news/media outlets are biased, or have an agenda of their own to push…..whew…..I’m sure glad we we able to expose the ONE AND ONLY biased news outlet in the nation. Nicely done….now, go back to the basement of your parent’s house and continue blogging while you wait for other people to support you for the rest of your lives. Idiots.

I worked in the security services business in New York for two of the most respected international firms in guards and investigations in the 1980′s. Later I moved seamlessly into the home alarm business and and local government for 161/2 years before retiring to form a small journalism company. So I think I have many years of profiling experience. First of all, I think that the whistle blower is never identified which hurts the credibility of his allegations. He sounds like a worker who is disgruntled and has a beef against Fox, maybe was let go. Also, he is telling his story through a third party who I don’t think is a fan of Fox News. If this story is true and I have heard it all about the #1 cable news station, why doesn’t this chap make a money deal with the Huffington Post or go on Chris Mathews. He is not very open about this and I can’t figure out why he can’t stand on his own two feet and requires to be fronted by another Media (Left or Right) enabler.

I’ve never heard the “left leaning” media claim–as Rush Limbaugh has–that oil spills are good for our waterways. And as much as we hated George Bush, the media did not call him names either. If you listen to the language on Fox, you’d swear Obama was a foreign-born Marxist/Socialist/whatever out to destroy the country. Unfortunately, it was Bush who actually did it.

I love reading Justine Raimondo’s articles at Anti War and I find Al Jazeera, RT and Sabbah Report to be worthy focal points as well.
I had listened to NPR since 1976 and had noticed a shift in it’s journalistic style at about the point of the Contract with America era. I now refer to it as National Propaganda Radio.

    fox news sucks!

Is anybody dumb enough to think this isn’t true of every single news agency? EVERYBODY has an agenda, and if it’s not impossible to be unbiased, it’s clear that it isn’t convenient or profitable.

Nothing like a libtard story bashing Fox News. I love how the “former employee” is never mentioned and the bias MSNBC shows (blatant) is never addressed on these sites. I could care less how many people “thumbs down” my comments, I post my opinion and until obozo tries to take THAT away too, I will continue to do just that.
