Many Americans believe that President Barack Obama is a Muslim who is also not an US citizen, and House Speaker John Boehner isn’t about to tell them any different.

The Speaker told NBC’s David Gregory Sunday that people have a right to their beliefs and it wasn’t his job to say otherwise.

This video is from NBC’s Meet the Press, broadcast Feb. 13, 2011.

Many Americans believe that President Barack Obama is a Muslim who is also not a US citizen, and House Speaker John Boehner isn’t about to correct them.

The Speaker told NBC’s David Gregory Sunday that people have a right to their beliefs and it wasn’t his job to tell them what to think.

Last week, 40 percent of Republicans on a Fox News panel insisted that Obama was a Muslim.

“As the Speaker of the House, as the leader, do you not think it’s your responsibility to stand up to that kind of ignorance?” Gregory asked.

“David, it’s not my job to tell the American people what to think,” Boehner replied. “Our job in Washington is to listen to the American people.”

“Having said that, the state of Hawaii has said that he was born there — that’s good enough for me. The president says he’s a Christian — I accept him at his word,” he added.

“But isn’t that a little bit fast and loose?” Gregory pressed. “You are the leader in Congress and you’re not standing up to obvious facts and saying these are facts and saying, ‘If you don’t believe that, it’s nonsense.’”

“I just outlined the facts as I understand them. I believe that the president is a citizen. I believe the president is a Christian. I’ll take him at his word,” Boehner repeated.

“The American people have a right to think what they want to think. I can’t — it’s not my job to tell them,” he said.

So, the orange boner feels no compunction to worry himself with the significant percentage of his base who are bonkers. Go figure.

  • Anonymous

Poor crybaby Boehner is incapable of stepping up to the plate to denounce “bithers”.

  • Anonymous

Right, let’s go ahead and simply equate “belief” with “fact.” I believe Boehner drinks orange Kool-aid, which is why he’s orange. So it must be a fact!

Idiots telling idiots it’s OK to be idiots. Just what the country needs.

Boehner says it’s not his job to tell the American people what to think – except when he’s lying about his party’s failings and Obama’s record.

Our orange overlord is quite the wimp.

  • Anonymous

Just another example of the rights continued ideologically driven attack on the facts As Daniel Moynihan once said, you are indeed entitled to your own opinion, but not your own set of facts. So no Speaker Boehner you are wrong, the American people do NOT have the right to think what they want when the facts are clear. Further, your statement is clearly meant to add fuel to the fire by showing your support not for the facts, but for the American people to live in denial of facts.

  • Greg Eckhart

    Shows he’s smart…?
What? You figure he should go out and piss off HIS base by calling them ‘retards’ and ‘assholes’?

You figure he should be more like Bill Maher — who when a politician distances himself from a political liability like Wright’s Church that’s proof he ain’t a Christian?

Boehner is being a good loyal politician who knows it’s a matter of money and votes; he doesn’t give a fuck about the message so long as the message delivers votes and money.
Why would he take a bullet simply to help out Democrats?

“not my job …” But he believes it’s his job to use the “birthers” for his own purposes.

  • Anonymous

Why does David Gregory need Boehner to denounce the birthers? Obama could just show his original long form birth certificate.

  • Guest

“Boehner replied. “Our job in Washington is to listen to the American people.”

So WHEN are you going to START doing that fucking job, Orange Aid?!

Rrriiigghhtt…but if there’s a group of voters who believe that the Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats are pushing through the Corporate agenda to disenfranchise the middle and lower classes–you know, telling the truth about who you are as an elitist, Boehner–you’ll be quick to deny that and tell us what to think, eh?

  • Knot

John Boehner says he doesn’t rape oompaloompas, I’ll take him at his word, what else could I do? It’s not my job to rescue those poor creatures that my children believe he has tied up in the rape rooms in his cellar.

  • Anonymous

No matter what anyone shows the birthers they will claim it is phony. The whole long form, original cert, is all bullshit.
The state of Hawaii says he was born there, end of story for sane people.

Boehner. Pathetic. But I repeat myself.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/RepublicConstitution?feature=mhum TruthRegimes

Why should anyone have concern regarding birthers? Who cares? Move on. That is not a serious or major voting block but the Left continually obsesses over them.

  • Anonymous

No, you just sit there and continue to play dumb. Pull the string on his back……”We’re gonna listen to the American people”…it cuts out before he says”….and continue to ignore them”

  • dk504

He has shown his birth certificate, it’s just like mine, except his is from Hawaii and mine is from New Orleans. Bur they look exactly the same, ’cause they are. John Boner doesn’t want an informed electorate, he loves this Obama is a Muzleem bullshit and will keep it going strong up to the election.

David, my job is to stay drunk, slur my words on TV, play golf and pretend to be a leader of teabaggers I can’t control. Please take my word. Is there a bar in here?

  • Anonymous

fear and hate stem from one plant, ignorance. nurture ignorance and you’ll guarantee things stay the same. limit access to education: cut head start programs, pell grants, increase tuition at state colleges and soon you’ll have voters ignorant enough to believe anything you tell ‘em. “we’re not here to tell the American People anything, we’re here to listen?” please.

one out of three republicans are birthers and 40% of a panel of republicans believe Obama to be a Muslim. Facts mean nothing to these people. Truth means nothing to these people. Taxes. they don’t want to pay them. they fear and hate the government, because they’re ignorant or refuse to acknowledge the good things their government does for it’s citizens.

government isn’t the problem. a politician defending the ignorance of his constituents is the problem.

  • dk504

So what exactly is your job BONER? Is it to obstruct everything the WH puts forth? Is it to fuck all female lobbyists? And make sure the MSM doesn’t talk about it. Is it to drive this country into a full blown depression?
What exactly is your job? All I’ve se you do as you have slithered up the ladder is divide this country into separate and not equal cauldrons of hate. Is that your purpose?

Silly me, I thought it was for the betterment of this country.

  • Johnny Warbucks

It goes without saying that Boner’s job is to screw things up, make the people’s life as difficult as possible and make sure that the transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich is completed without a glitch.

  • RottenJohnny

So his job is not to tell what the American people to think? Then why does he do that every time he opens his C2H5OH fumed mouth?

  • kukisvoomchor

This “take him at his word” business (didn’t Mitch McConnell trot that one out too a while back?) indicates a kind of mock credence, the equivalent of saying “Well, if he SAYS so…” That’s deliberate, and it just plain sucks.

Apparently, there isn’t a job that exists on this Earth that’s Boner’s! He never does anything, other than drink Merlot, cry his tear ducts out, and make a damned fool of himself on camera!

Boehner should not be in office because he admitted he will listen to lies and let the lies coninue. He admitted he will accept the lies under the guise of listening to the people.

And I suppose that if the left wing wanted to post that he was unqualified because his wife was turning tricks for the Koch Brothers he would also say it is not his place to correct them. They are free to hold their beliefs.

As I recall there was plenty on the left that thought Bush should come forth with information about his Cocaine issues. There were documents he could release but he chose to thumb his nose at them. Can these fools even imagine what kind of kaos would occur if we actually found that President Obama was born somewhere else? Think of the idiot Republicans who who caused a near disaster when they voted for one day after missing being sworn in. It would not be good for the US it would be a disaster (it is also a stupid tinfoil hat conspiracy), but every Federal Law in the last two years (the ones you don’t like and the ones you do) would be undone. Your taxes would go up. The continuing resolution would be unwound and our credit would fail. Credit would seize and the bond markets would fail. No military would be paid and the expansions of military benefits would be unwound. Most likely because of the stess on the financial markets we could not possibly fund the wars (that’s fine) so the military would go unpaid and slashed.

    Two things here.

    1. I don’t believe that the word “many” is anywhere approaching accurate. How many is “many”? 40 percent of Republicans on a Fox News panel? What does that mean? What? Was it 5 people? At most? What the hell is a “Fox News panel” anyway and how is it that anyone cares what they think? Are they even Americans?

    2. Speaker John Boehner didn’t get elected by educating his constituents. The dumber and more ignorant the better for him. If they were any more intelligent they would realize he can’t even pronounce his name correctly.

  • http://www.petersaxemusic.com Peter Saxe

Someone should report the Orange Man agrees with the Birthers, and continue reporting that he agrees with them. You know, just like Fox News would do. Use phrases like “un-named sources inside the Tea Party say..” Make it look like Orangey IS a birther. Make him deny it.

He’s not lining his pockets with illegal under the table “campaign contributions” and he’s not lying when he says he’s concerned about deficits, and he’s surely telling the truth about the need to keep hundreds of overseas military bases to keep Americans safe from invasion. There’s no way he could be fabricating his belief that the drug war is about protecting children from illegal drugs and not a cash cow to keep cops and prison guards voting Republican, nor is it a means to persecute poor people who happen to be minorities, or to protect the massive profits of the pharmaceutical and alcohol companies. I’ll take him at his word.

Like most Americans, I believe Boner is a practicing alcoholic and a suntanning bed abuser, who is subject to uncontrolled sobbing when he thinks of himself, while simultaneously ignoring the plight of millions of his “fellow” Americans. After all his time in Congress, his only noticeable talent is taking money from corporate executives and playing golf, and he has displayed little ability to set a legislative agenda or show any true concern for the less fortunate of our country. I believe he is a fake, and every day his “power” is diminished. In 2012 he will be sent home to spend more time f*cking his wife, instead of the country. Of course, that will make him cry, but not as badly as when he hands the Speaker’s gavel back to Nancy Pelosi.

And you don’t open up the Presidency of the United States to non-citizens because it allows for all kinds of ways for foreign interests to try and sabotage our nation. No, because I’m making a point.

NO ONE ON THE LEFT FOR A MOMENT challenged John McCain’s legitimacy. It’s Republicans who want to change the Constitution to allow Arnold to run for President. It’s Conservatives that launched into a frenzy about Obama’s qualifications when he’s the most qualified contender that has come on the scene in years. It is the Conservatives who shit spicy ground-beef-flavored-filling whenever issues of immigration come up–”finish the dang fence, consarnit!”

McCain, on the other hand, turned on himself and spent his entire post-military service finding ways to stuff hundred-dollar bills into his pockets, and now, perhaps, his cheeks as he must have run out of room in the cash vaults in his six luxurious homes.

If one of McCain’s parents had been Panamanian, do you think Orly Taitz would be riding him as hard as she’s riding our President even though McCain would legitimately not be a citizen for being born out of the states with only one native parent?

    Yeah, exactly.

As for me being a racist, an excellent comedian once said, “Being a racist is stupid. There are too many good reasons to hate people on an individual basis.”

You can have this for being snarky:

    What’s 24% out of 150,000,000?

(That number’s about half of the American population which makes up the whole of the electorate.)

    Minor enough for you?

Why would he stand up to ignorance when his entire voting base is misinformed and ignorant? They want them ignorant and the repuke base is content with their heads up their asses.

Limpballs and Beck will thell them what to think. But then again, it is difficult to think if one lacks a live brain cell.
